I think people focus on the bad too much. Spider-Man far from home and no way home are 2 of my favorite mcu films and that’s post mcu… but it’s one character.
Spiderman isn't even owned by Disney and only got one foot inside MCU circle. That says alot about Disney's mismanagement. They destroyed Star Wars too
I believe Disney + was probably the worst thing that could of been done with Marvel Studios. It's now bloated, stretched out, and it feels there's a lot of pressure to put more with less.
Disney ruins everything. They ruined Starwars/LucasFilm, they ruined Pixar, they ruined Marvel… shit’s so bad that Disney ruins their own IP now (which I never particularly cared for once I got introduced to other animation studios… one of which… ofc they vacuumed up into themselves)
We've come to a point where it's way more fun to watch youtube reviews than the actual MCU movies/series. Yup, that's how low we've fallen in what, just three, four years?
I think people don't know how to write action movies that focus on women, they write them as men cos that's what all the other movies were like but it just doesn't work? Like they just swap the genders around without changing how they behave...
@@NoNo-fu6ld The only thing I remember about Winter Soldier was the good action scenes and I literally had no care at all to watch the Eternals. That aside, "woke" can still definitely be blamed. How? Forced diversity hiring. Yes, that's a woke ideology and Disney has been HUGE into that after End Game. They're not picking the best for the jobs, they're picking workers more and more based on skin and pronouns - the same sorts of hiring methods that long ago ruined the actual comic book side of Marvel (seriously, the creators there are vastly terrible now and spend far too much of their time begging for money and complaining on X). Even Anthony Mackie had to call out how bad Disney's internal practices have been these recent years. He even brought up how ironically ra*ist these methods have become and how natural diversity will always trump forced diversity - a message I fully support. In short: when woke ideologies run the show, they're often gonna release shit shows. When the shows are sheet, people lose their jobs. Making customers happy and keeping their employees employed should be their first goal, not their second.
I love that one. My thoughts exactly. Disney+ ruined Marvel. There's too much content and I hear it's hard for the writers to keep up with what needs to connect to what movie/tv show now.

The worst part is how this is the best version of the Movie, they had a lot redone and they decided this is the best it could be... makes you wonder how awfull the first attempts must have been
The plot was that they needed to take resources from other worlds to make the Kree planet habitable. The baddie was choosing planets that meant something to Captain Marvel for revenge since it was her fault the planet was in that position in the first place. It was a loose plot but it was there. All of the other things surrounding it were extras.
Just saw on Disney +. It was ok. Not nearly as bad as everyone claims. I know this sounds insane BUT Dar Ben's plan made more since then Thanos 😮😮😮 Dar Ben was gathering resources to preserve her own planet. Thanos was destroying half of all life indiscriminately... Even though 😮😮😮 Ebony Maw seems to have tree powers. You think the Maw would have explained to Thanos how SUPER WEEDS WORK 😅😅😅 Thanos plan should have been to increase resources... But to to make conflict it could have been to destroy super weed species (like humans). That would have made Thanos' plan the same as Ultrons!!! The indiscriminate 50% thing is just dumb. . . Even dumber than Dar Ben 😮 😮😮
I'm glad the kid has fun making stuff. I feel they should keep her for the aforementioned "extended break" and just see what she's good at in greater Hollywood, and THEN make a Series or Movie with her. She's literally fresh talent, she'd make great Rebrand Material.
We always thought AI would attack us directly with bioweapons, nukes, restricting/controlling essentials (water, electricity, food, etc)...instead, they attacked our media, giving us horrible entertainment and slowly sapping our collective will to carry on. Well played, AI, well played 👏
Except... Man, I half hated Age of Ultron when I first saw it. The villain is a goofy jokester? ... (Fricken J Whedon quips ruining a bad guy!) Now, I love Age of Ultron, - minus Ultron! He was dumb. But... what a great, tight script!
I'm amazed that they never brought back Ultron, at all. He's the easiest one to justify coming back after you supposedly kill him (and that's his whole MO in the comics), but no, they'll just recycle Loki, Thanos, and even knockoff Ronan.
Wrt the swap thing, I was confused at first why they didn't swap at times, but I think it was shown after a while that the swap only happens when two characters use their powers simultaneously. Not sure if that would fix the plothole though
Yea the movie was by no means good, but feel the poorness of it had Jeremy check out. As at least that gripe was explained, as when one of them both start using their powers at the same time, but can then keep them in post switch. The AI writing comment feels spot on though, about a quarter in I was thinking the writing wasn't there for what could be a good movie

Movie was fun to watch - just finished watching it. The plot was definitely uneven and a bit janky though. Iman Vellani was definitely the heart of the movie. It wasn't about using powers. It is about using powers simultaneously which as why Carol told Kamala not to use her powers when she was trying to save the Skrulls
I loved the older MCU movies when they really took their time to make a movie. The stories were beautiful and woven together well. Now it's just content to fill a bottomless pit
I avoided watching this movie because everyone spoke so negatively about it. Then I decided to watch it to understand the hate. And I really enjoyed it. I didn't need it to be brilliant or mysterious or anything like that. I just thought it was fun. If you have Disney+, watch the first few minutes for yourself, decide if it's entertaining, then either continue to watch it or go do something else. You too may be pleasantly surprised.
This is why Jeremy Jahns is one of my favorite reviewers. He gives some nice compliments but is not afraid to speak out his honest thoughts. Plus he's very entertaining compared to current day MCU.
This is why we most likely wont be seeing a review of this movie from Chris Stuckmann. He only reviews movies that he likes. His reasoning is that as a filmmaker, he doesnt want to criticize other filmmakers. While this is admirable and understandable, it makes his reviews somewhat predictable bc we know that if he releases one, it's going to be positive. Part of me wishes he would still be open to expressing negative reviews, but if he doesn't release a review of this film, it's safe to say he didn't like it.

@@ox_trueprotagonistchrisred9085 Villain's planet was dying. So using jump points, villain siphons resources from other planets to rejuvenate her own planet. Because Captain Marvel ruined her planet, villain specifically targets the planets that mean something to the captain as a way of revenge. Incidentally, the way villain creates jump points made the three heroes start switching powers if two of them used them simultaneously. Personally, I think it was good fun. Not the trash that was Thor 4 and Quantamanium. Ms Marvel was genuinely funny and absolutely delightful.
I should've watched this review before watching on stream because goddamn, you hit the nail on the head. This movie would've been better as a 2nd season of "Ms. Marvel".
I feel like they should have taken a nice long hiatus after Endgame to truly gather the resources and make a solid plan for the next phase. However, well...we all see what we got.
Shut up, for the love of god they've been slowly showing us Kang and the timelines this entire time and tying everything in. None of you bandwagoners were here during phase 1 until the Avengers, you don't know how comparatively quiet things were until the first big team up (which in this case is going to be Thunderbolts).
Disney has now literally become the physical embodiment of insanity. Just keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over again expecting different results. They NEVER learn 🤦
Jeremy I hate to throw this out there but Ronin isn’t the only Kree with a hammer. The Kree are a race of people with a military called The Accusers. All of the Accusers carry a Cosmi Rod as their primary weapon for execution including Ronin and Darr Ben. So technically she’s not a copy of Ronin. She’s a Kree soldier with a beef with the Skrulls which leads right into secret wars.
I love soooooo much how Jeremy has avoided ideological vitriol. He's obviously aware of that aspect, but doesn't let it infect his objectivity and loyalty to the search for a good story. My most trusted source for movie and film reviews. No contest.
Same here. Don’t get me wrong, I can still some good “hate-watch” reviews. But when I want the guy who will just honestly review, good, bad or mediocre, it is JJ’s reviews I turn. And besides, they are usually entertaining and funny no matter what. It’s a no-lose scenario. His and Critical Drinker are pretty much my only “must-watch” reviews. I feel they are both funny and fair.
@@RabbiSteve Isn't Critical Drinker one of the main people who constantly complain about everything being woke and seem to engage in ideological vitriol? Maybe I'm wrong
3:37 that little skit with the script meeting, that was absolutely fucking hilarious. Great review and a damn shame that they just had to pump this one out instead of giving it the time and love it deserved.
South Park episode. Psh. Totally got it wrong. "Put a chick in it, make her lame and make her gay." That's not something we do. Why would we be giving ourselves raises if we ever made mistakes? Right Bob?
it's funny because when you start to read one of their comics , it follows the same steps of becoming overwhelmingly repetitive and uninspired. It's at the start where everything feels grounded and believable , and story moments actually impact you, i still remember watching the Ironman Trilogy back then and having this general sense of mystery to it , everything was revolving around earth , military and the sort. It wasn't some intergalactic threat or Multi-verse villain , it was just humans vs humans and so much of it felt relatable. Now it feels like you're watching an actual comic book move on the big screen......which isn't the most exciting thing nowadays. Basically , my point is everything in the MCU feels so.... meaningless and pointless now.
Well tb;dw (too boring didn't watch) The first post credit scene is about Kamala tracking down Kate Bishop and is planning to do a Young Avengers initiative with her (also they're planning to recruit Stratue/Cassie Lang next). The second post credit scene is when Monica woke up in a hospital after being "trapped" in the other universe. Beast was there as her doctor and also her mom is alive and probably a mutant. Also Charles was mentioned so i figured that the X-Men has already been established in that universe but we still don't know whether it's Patrick Stuwart's Charles or someone younger.
Finally saw The Marvels and it was just fine. It feels like everyone is acting like everything pre-end game was gold. This movie was middle of the pack. The cat scene was weird, but apparently it hit because my 65 year old dad was laughing his ass off. Ms. Marvel was definitely the best part of the movie.
I really do feel for iman. She's a huge marvel fan who's very passionate about the comics & films so her joining the MCU right when it's experiencing a downfall is sad. I hope she gets paired up with better writers next time.
thats the sad part with waiting to add the more diverse characters now that the MCU's MO is dropping tons of content so it feels empty and lame. They waited like 11 years to focus on a singular female or POC hero movie, and are now trying to cram them all in as the overall narrative sucks so that they can call criticism of bad storytelling sexist or racist.
The MCU falling from where it was still gives it a lot of room and still puts it above a lot of what else is out there. Even the MCU's worst movies weren't objectively bad; just average.
lol dont bother. Iman was 4 months old when SpiderMan came out. 5 years old when Iron Man debuted. 9 for The Avengers. Get the point? She'll never be able to access the same gravitas that 43yr old RDJ did for Iron Man, because she's 21 and has had the MCU in her pocket her whole adult life. Easiness doesn't create passion. Studios need to recognize that all the grown men who made the MCU profitable are not interested in 21 year old girls starring in action movies, that's why we're not paying to see this or anything like it. Look at the top 30 highest grossing action films of all time: EVERY one of them has a strong male lead, because grown men pay to see other grown men act in a way we respect. We don't pay to see kids with no life experience fail to carry the mantle of grown men. RDJ was the backbone of everything that worked about the MCU, and RDJ worked because men respected him, he paid his dues in real life. I don't know who this Iman is, I don't look up to her, I don't care to see her do action, and there are millions of me.
I appreciate your review but I have to say, I thought it was great and very fun. In the screening I went to last night everyone was in bits laughing, the comedy felt natural, in comparison to Thor Love and Thunder, which you brought up. But I do genuinely appreciate your opinion even if I disagree
I unironically watched this movie just today(my local theater just straight up gave out free tickets to it. I suppose nobody bought it, yet they had to fill required number of people in the seats, or whatever) and the only thought in my mind by the time I came out of the theater was "I really have an obligation now to see that new south park special. I'm sure I'll love it"

You're right. And that's interesting. This movie and many like it for the past few years occupy two different spaces. One is entertainment, the other is social politics. Because this movie has pretty much an all female cast, writers, and director. Some feel as though giving it a negative review is somehow sexist. Many movies that make it a point to advertise the identity of the actors instead of the quality of the story usually fall flat on their face. This seems to be no different.
Yeah, the people who can't accept any valid criticism just because of who is associated with the project is like an 8 year old mindset. It is getting so tired and absurd at this point that I am genuinely amazed that anyone still thinks that way anymore. But these are the more radicalized people who regardless of logic and common sense will do everything in their power to die on the weakest hill of all time.
The plot was the villain attempting to restore their planets main resources(air, water, sun) by forcefully taking the resource’s of other planets that are related to Captain marvel who stripped them of those core resources to begin with🤷🏾♀️. Am I the only one who can enjoy a MCU film without being critical. Feels like the standards are way too high nowadays
I'm very excited to see the box office results after this weekend. I'm guessing it's catastrophic. I'm guessing it's not the reviews that will get Disney's attention but how much money they've wasted.
Personally, I think that they knew it was gonna bomb leading up to its release, but because it's been in development since the first Captain Marvel, they sunk way too much money into the project and had no choice but to release it in theatres (as evidenced by the multiple delays of the film)
Indeed, that would send a strong message. But they definitely care about reviews, too; otherwise they'd not have made Rotten Tomatoes change its entire ratings system just to prop up the Captain Marvel movie, lol. I mean, "Ms Marvel" was a flop, but Disney still kept touting it as the highest rated MCU show on RT. And so far "The Marvels" is one of their lowest rated movies by critics, in the same sphere as bombs like "The Eternals" and "Quantumania". So I think they'll be paying attention to that as well as the money made (or not made).
Most Disney Exec doesn't care, as long as they can push their agenda and they get enough salary, Investor .... that's different story, too bad these Investors still can't push Disney to change.
I think I was only getting behind this because of Iman as the more emotional centre of the team. I don’t remember the villains name (even after hearing it in this video) but I remember how Kamala’s reactions to events in this movie. But I can say if I needed a dumb action movie to have on in the background, it’s a good fit. I can check in and out and not miss much that would have made it too hard to understand.
So this is the problem with critics, they don't understand the movie and they crap all over it. You didnt know that they switch power when they use it at the same time?they did explained it in the movie.
First-time commenter. Just had to say how much I loved the "woof" punch-slap at the end. It is a wonderful expression of both the fatigue Marvel audiences are experiencing and the half-hearted effort Marvel Studios appears to be giving.
Think one reason is also cuz they r trying to do soooo much with the movies and tv shows. Like in the beginning it was "hey we have this vision (avengers film) but lets focus on making one really good film after another so we can build up to that". Whereas now its more focused on the "idea" of things rather than the quality of things (at least a lot of the time). Its kind of similar to the dceu issues where they were more focused on the idea of the justice league than the thought of just making good films in order to get there. Now its mostly just "hey, look at all the different worlds and blah blah blah" instead of going "hey we have this really cool idea, but lets try and make the best quality stuff first".
Movie was actually good ngl I was so incredibly shocked I'm actually thinking I like it quite a fair bit. Everyone went in with a preset judgement based on whatever their favourite RU-vidr said. And whilst I fell victim to that it was genuinely not bad at all not to mention the Kate Bishop scene! VERY HYPED!
I thought it was good, just not great. Much better than the worst of the MCU films, which might be "Thor: The Dark World" but there's some competition for that spot. Just not very memorable, other than some of the really silly stuff with the cats. I had fun, I have some questions, I'm not in a hurry to see it again. Now, if they had put the kind of thought and stakes that they put into the Loki series into this movie, we could've had something great.
Agreed I was forced to watch the movie and I just knew it was gonna be bad, but watching it I ended up loving it now I have to defend to ppl who haven’t even watched the movie or lack critical thinking skills
It’s incredible. Any time I see a trailer, poster, or review for The Marvels, I have the same reaction of “Oh shit! I forgot they’re making another Captain Marvel.” Usually followed up with a long pause and a “Why?” Gotta give Marvel credit there. I have the exact same energy every time I think about this movie. That’s not something that happens often.
the thing is how are the marketing team or whoever checks the public interest NOT AWARE that the literal only reason that movie wasnt a flop was because it was strategically positioned between IW and Endgame (if I'm not mistaken it was literally the last movie before endgame). I went to watch with 5 or 4 friends when it came out and all of us were having shots before and during the movie because we knew it was really bad.@@ThePunk01
Just saw movie on Disney +. It was ok. Not as bad as everyone made it seem. Every review for this movie praises Iman Vellani. Kinda feels like theres a concerted effort to review bomb Disney and people feel a need to apologize to Vellani as collateral damage...
I think Iman is probably the only thing remotely good about the movie. And I think its exactly what you said. She genuinely is a fan and is passionate about the character.
I think most people liked Iman in this role and I wish her the best for her future. Hopefully she gets gigs outside Marvel because she's super talented
But she's a D list character. The Ms Marvel show was the lowest rated disney+ show until Secret Invasion came along. So not many people watched that show because Marvel keeps introducing D list characters and thinking fans want to see them. She may have played the role well but it's not a character the majority of fans care about. The ratings of her show and the box office for the Marvels shows that.
@@danishsamir8807 To be fair, Kamala in any way is a huge nerd and a superhero fan, so it's understandable why she can be annoying sometimes because she has an obsession with Captain Marvel as her idol

5:42 I just saw The Marvels last night, and while I largely agree with your comments so far, I disagree on the power swapping mechanics. It was explained in the movie that it was when any of the three Marvels used their powers at the same time the entanglement caused them to swap places. So, if only one of the three were using their power, no swapping would take place. I'm not sure how well they did applying that aspect of the mechanics, but that was the premise.

It does sort of explain why. They have to do their powers at the same time. So if only 1 is using their powers, they wont switch. It did seem like a few times they messed that up but yeah, they do sort of explain it.
I just watched it this afternoon. I had fun with it and I must say that it as more to do with Iman Vellani's acting. She is sweet and funny an acts like a teenager put in her situation, even though the actress herself is 21 now. The cats thing and the singing aliens - I could have done without. Villain was terrible but the two adult leads were not great either.
there is no "deep dive" on Dar Benn. The character appeared twice, did nothing, was killed. Giving the name to the villain in the movie was just corporate making sure they don't have to pay extra royalties to anyone for creating an original character.
As someone who's watched Ms. Marvel, yeah.. i kinda figured Iman would carry this movie. Pity she had to be in this crapshow. She's a real one too, tho. A real comics nerd. I've been reading comics for decades, but this youngster knows probably x10 about comics lore than i do. 😊♥️🇵🇭
Ms. Marvel was the standout, I totally agree, and the reason was the writer of her TV show was a writer on this film, she is a Ms. Marvel fan girl, she loves the comics and loved doing the show, and boy did she use that character to FULL effect to the detriment of the other characters, and also added the annoying family into the film as much as possible. Totally agree about the Monica/Carol storyline, should have developed more, there should have seen some raw emotion there, because she felt Carol had let her down, and that brings us to the villain. Her point of view made perfect sense, she saw Captain Marvel as the villain, and in truth she was, she had ruined her home world and left the people in a destitute state, and that is the kernel of the story that was, as you say, there but never fully explored, the emotional effect on Captain Marvel that although extremely powerful had fucked everybody's lives up. I would have loved to have seen just one shot of her looking out of the window at all the Skrull she couldn't save dying and some raw emotion on her face reflecting the inner turmoil she was feeling. The stories are there, as with Love and Thunder, but they seem afraid to tell them, and go for the stupidity of Bollywood numbers and whacky cats. At about half way, I was thinking 5 or 6/10, I'm not not enjoying it, but I'm not in love with it, it is watchable, then Bollywood happened, 4 to 4.5/10, and then cats in space happened, 3.5 to 4/10. I have no idea what happened at the end, could not work it out. The mid credit scene had me most excited all movie, Beast for fuck's sake, brilliant.

To come clean: as a hardcore comic book reader/fan (DC, Marvel etc) since 79, I've been giving both DC & Marvel a fanboy pass despite their obvious fkups. I have to/will admit that the quality is dropping fast! I was concerned back in 2019 after *Endgame* and felt they should have ended that chapter with that movie, take some much needed time (after 11yrs of greatness) to fully/properly get ready for the next phase. Only bring characters from that era when absolutely needed to properly build to the next big thing if/when need be. They should have used the pandemic to take time out to properly structure either The X-Men or Fantastic 4, or put out real specials flirting/teasing characters like Deadpool, Kang etc. Hell, Doctor Doom should have at least been referenced once the FOX deal went through. Use the same structure you had with Ironman for phase 2 with different characters. They're oversaturating themselves while not realizing the loss of soul/feeling that we've grown to love and expect! 🎵"Wise" men say, only fools rush in.🎵 *Take that to heart damnit

You said that after watching the second trailer you were like “this looks like generic big budget mcu space adventure nonsense” and I’m sorry but… like, that’s the point. You say that like it’s a bad thing but that has literally been the mcu for the longest time, just switch space adventure for any other kind of adventure but it’s always been a bunch of crazy things thrown together, I mean, look at the source material, the comics (except for a couple stories) aren’t that much different. They’re supposed to be fun adventures. The Monica x carol heartfelt moment I agree wasn’t the best… at first. When Carol talks about the reason why she didn’t go back earlier, the heartfelt element, got turned up. It’s not like gut wrenching shit that will make you cry non stop for days, but… that’s not really different from most other marvel movies, and it’s not like it was badly done, I feel like even if it doesn’t make you bawl your eyes out, it does make you feel things, and it’s sweet when you see carol being like “I really wanted to come back”. It wasn’t the worst thing. Now, as for Monica’s character, I don’t think that her having “a higher purpose” or “being at the right place at the right time” in the plans for the mcu, means that she becomes a mcguffin (or however you write that). I think her character had some good amount of development. She could’ve had more but it wasn’t a terrible amount. Now, dar’ven imo couldn’t be more different from Ronan. Yes, they both have a hammer, but aside from that, that’s where the differences end. Ronan wanted to conquer and rule, dar’ven wanted to save her world. That was it. She just wanted to save it, and if that meant she had to kill others, well so be it, but she wasn’t out lusting for power the way Ronan was. I mean, you say she’s the worst of all the mcu. I’m sorry but there is no way in hell she’s even close to the shit show that was modok. You say that on execution, dar’ven and carol’s dynamic was bad, but I disagree. I do think it wasn’t the best, that I’ll give you, but you’re talking about it like it was the worst and I personally feel like there’s worse in the mcu. I also never felt like there was a missing movie full of set up to watch this movie, I mean, I feel like it’s pretty straightforward. Carol kills the supreme intelligence like she said she would do, and chaos breaks lose, causing the downfall of the kree world. It’s pretty clear imo. The hammer thing just really didn’t bother me. I see your point though. I just don’t necessarily agree with it. I mean, the hammer comes from the Kree. It’s their weapon for those of high enough ranks I assume. It’s like saying that soldiers using assault rifles is them not knowing how to do anything new or original. Like… it’s just a weapon. A weapon that happens to channel purple energy when the source of the energy is purple, like it has been in the two situations when it channeled energy. The characters don’t swap every time they use their powers, they swap when they use them at the same time. It’s explained in the film. Marvel’s CGI has become more and more noticeable. That I can agree with, but it never felt like I was watching Frodo run into mount doom levels of noticeable. I do agree that singing world was a bit… outlandish, but I thought it was fun. The singing world I think is really up to personal taste. You didn’t like it, I did, and maybe someone else would feel nothing either good or bad towards it. I thought it was fun. Could’ve lived without it but I’m not bothered that it is there. Also, Carol changing into a Cinderella-esque dress through her suit’s tech was funny to me in the context of it all. Also, that cat thing wasn’t dumb at all. It makes perfect sense to have the cats do what they do in that scene. Not dumb at all. I mean it’s outlandish if you want, but it makes sense, it isn’t out of place in the world of the marvels, specially when we’ve already seen goose do her thing before and during this film. Wym you don’t know the plot? The plot was to introduce the quantum bands, expand upon the current state of the kree empire, expand upon the multiverse thing and do all that while developing Monica’s, Carol’s and Kamala’s character. I really think this movie isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. I enjoyed it more than a lot of of mcu films. It’s solid. It’s not the best or a highlight but it’s solid enough. To anyone reading this, give the marvels a chance. If you like marvel movies, you’ll probably like this one. I did.
I think anyone who likes Star Wars, Star Trek and Superheroes entertainment in general, are just into low hanging fruit type of entertainment. Unbelievable context and superlame.
