At Sessions Live 2018, Esther Perel facilitated conversations amongst experts on the paradoxes of masculinity. Sessions Live: The Masculinity Paradox was a multidisciplinary training on the current cultural crisis of gender relations, and its unique potential to change and improve the lives of all. This event is one of many conversations.

Mostly an introduction to her speech at the event and not the speech itself. I really enjoy Esther's speeches as I learn much about humor and public speaking just watching her; so if you're here for that, start from 0:00. There are tidbits of knowledge here and there but they're only a preview of the speech that followed. Hoping we get the part 2 :) Go Esther!

Salvador Minuchin says in the final clip here, "Ok, because I start with the idea that [all | only the] the people who come to Therapy are wrong. And they are wrong because they are certain. And certainty is the enemy of change. And so, you know, empathy is to be able to understand the way in which a person is in life. But a therapeutic empathy needs to a__? to l__? the courage to challenge, the courage to challenge the way in which the people are engaged in patterns that do not allow them to grow up. So the question is, how do you challenge? And how to you challenge in such a way that people will hear you? Because if you challenge directly people will say, .. people will not come the next time, and that you do not want to. So you challenge by saying, You're richer than you are, you're richer than what you think you are, you have roads that you have traveled and you have forgotten, and join me in a trek of rediscovering the complexity of your life. You say that to individual people. You say that to families. And then different people do it different ways. So my view of therapy is that you introduce uncertainty, you introduce confusion, you introduce curiosity, you introduce hope, and you introduce complexity." I can't make out the words before "the courage to challenge", can anyone tell me what they are?

I was there, personally thought that wasn't worth almost $400, it was watered down pieces of different speakers personal insight here and there. As a non therapist I didn't learn much new/had much time to interesting/heated group discussions. I also went to another seminar she had wit New Yorker last year but she was talking about the same thing she did in the tedtalk. Love her tedtalk.

I have to say I do wonder myself about these events and how much they are money making exercises and dark too much listening to speakers when they should be interactive.You don't need to pay that much money to sit in a room and listen to talks especially if they repeat online stuff.I also think the venue looks like a multi story car park with terrible strip lighting.I hope they provided some decent food and drink for $400

Omg $400 for this? Are you serious? And a good amount of this is free to watch online?

Wish u make u vedio on how to heal from cheating which is ofcourse by husband and have to keep going coz of kids and the man is not bad it's just cant get over the pain plus the fear that it can happen again with out me knowing again coz the way reacted when he told me
@wanjiruchelagat6565
@wanjiruchelagat6565 4 года назад
Laila I'm sorry about that. But healing is a personal decision. Understand that cheating is a choice and it's got nothing to do with you. Teach yourself to enjoy life as a single first before you go back into dating. Mathew hussey has lots of good videos about such. But please don't let it affect the quality of life coz it's not worth it. Wishing you the best!!XO

I'm skeptical of the value of listening to Terrence Real. Although I haven't absorbed much of his content everything I have seen has the message that women are amazing and men are terrible. I don't mind taking some honest criticism but everything I have seen from him revolves around patriarchy theory.
@rifrafbarker
@rifrafbarker 4 года назад
LikeToWatch77 I was skeptical as well. He calls out both partners around the ways that they play out strategies learned as a child to earn love. Both sides have painful ways of reaching or shutting down the conversation depending on conditioning. Unfortunately for men is that they are often taught to be emotionally unavailable/shut done in order to survive in a dangerous -and often patriarchal-world. The woman’s reaching feels like blame and the man pushes back or gaslights or shuts down because me so feel like a failure to begin with. Watch Esther’s interview with Real; I was actually pretty impressed.

Esther, can you please talk about HYPERGAMY and toxic masculinity?? There are many many *more educated, more financially stable women who are having a HORRIFIC time dating/mating for life in the Western world. I myself have been told by ex boyfriends, "I don't want to marry someone who makes more money than me" or "You're an ___ and I'm just a ____". Please address hypergamy?! #singleforever #ididntmakemylifethisgreattooffendsomanymen #itsforbothofusandchildren #whyamiapologizing #causeimbargaining #theydontwantme

Waste of time - 19 ,mins just getting household items cleared and 2 mins on a short recorded talk. This is more a marketing ploy or self-serving post.

Masculinity is a positive and good force; what we need to address is toxic feminism and their culture of entitlement when equality exists between men and women.
@taywil64A
@taywil64A 4 года назад
@DarthYuYevon We are working to a point we can agree but, their is bad behaviour by men and others, but feminist false narratives on men are very socially and eononomically and thus politically profound, whereas male rape against females is a crime, there is no ideology behind it. All bad behaviour is toxic on that we agree, regardless of gender.

Relevant to who or what? It's perfectly relevant to starting a day of presentations for therapists. She is letting us have a glimpse into what Sessions is about but unless you are a therapist, coach, or educator you and I aren't part of her target audience.

A woman talking to a large group of mostly Women about MASCULINITY!!? That's like me talking to a large group of Mostly Men about Breastfeeding&Periods. Sorry, No Y Chromosome, No Opinion!
@Xaviallin1
@Xaviallin1 Год назад
Sorry but I don’t see what this has to do with anything. It’s not like it’s exclusively just women there. If anything, it seems pretty mixed unless you went out of your way to fixate on the amount of women and men present by doing a whole head count.
