You never ceased to amaze me. I cannot get over your knowledge, expertise and wisdom. I am an older black American female, and. I live in Morelia Mexico. I learned to speak conversational Spanish in a couple of months, my love for Mexicans, and my desire to stay here for the rest of my life propelled me to learn it(mind over matter I guess). I am enjoying my freedom. Every day, I feel like kissing the ground of Mexico. The best country and people in the world. I am a middle-class black American that recently received my permanent residency. I had to provide financial solvency, that I gladly produced. I was so happy when the Consulate gave me my residency. I had my Mexican flag in hand, and just cried. I love living in these neighborhoods where they speak only Spanish. Because I now speak Spanish, English offends me. Lol. I LOVE MEXICO. Viva Mexico. I truly appreciate you.

Tennesseans think like Mexican's. The number one comment from a Tennessean on people moving from other states is, " Don't try to make Tennessee like your home state." This is especially true of people moving from Western or Northern states. I'm included in those groups. I'm from Washington State, and I love Tennessee for what it is and don't try to change it. I also ove Mexico. It feels free to me and I get sad when I return to visit and see new chain hotels and restaurants or music catering to tourists. I visit to experience Mexican culture and music and don't want a regurgitated version of home. I really appreciate your candid comments. I'm considering relocating in the next 5-10 years but want to make sure I have planned well by starting to learn Spanish now and exploring different communities. In the meantime , I'll have to settle for visiting regularly.

I know what you mean. I hate it too. That's why we are considering moving to a more rural area in the future as the city gets more and more developed. It happens all over the world, it is a by product of growth and people wanting to move here. But the plus side is that Mexico is a huge country and just like there are still pockets of greatness in the USA the same will hold true for Mexico. Thanks again for sharing with us!

A good way to gauge wealth is by debt. The average American family is in debt of $103,000 USD. The average mexican family has about $1,500 USD in debt. With financial stress levels reduced dramatically, I see mexicanos as generally relaxed, with big families and in good spirits.
@JoseArteagaTravels

@Red1Moon: I think for MANY Americans the Debt is MUCH MUCH more that over $100,000.00 Over this past weekend, I was hanging around a Dodge/Chrysler dealership admiring the MAIN attraction in the showroom, It was a Dodge truck with extra cab, and was 4X4 The sticker price was $125,000.00 with Base sticker price over $95,000.00 That is More than I paid for my first house!! So if a vehicle that isn't all that special is that crazy...what about real estate? I agree with you!!
@NeonAnimeDreams
@NeonAnimeDreams 3 месяца назад
Debt is not necessarily a bad thing. For example up until very recently when interest rates started to get higher, buying a house with 2% interest was a good move because once you factor in inflation you're actually coming out on top with the value of your home, what you paid into it, vs what the value of the dollar is. Today it's different of course, buying a home now actually favors the bank more than you, but these times are weird. But going with normal times I wouldn't count good debt as debt in the same way you'd count other debts. Now credit card debt, on the other hand, is a whole other animal and definitely falls into that category of bad debt, but most Americans are only $6000 in credit card debt, bad yes, but $6000 of debt is still manageable when you make over 70k a year. I'm not sure how well Mexicans can manage $1500 of debt with how little they make.

If people here are having trouble making it on 3 to 4k a month I don't know what to tell them. I make right in the middle of that about 3.6 - 3.7k a month and I live practically in the lap of luxury. I do have a schwab account so I don't constantly get charged country to country exchange rate fees, so maybe that's one area people are making mistakes. Maybe another is they are constantly eating out on the main tourist strips where prices are jacked up to the same they are in the US, hint: DON'T DO THAT! But man, life is good here with what I make, really really good.

Let's face it, if you're unhappy here in the US, you'll probably be unhappy anywhere if your expectations aren't met. If you have to have everything to keep up with your neighbors or surpass your neighbors, you won't be happy no matter what. If A competetive, comparative lifestyle hasn't worked for you so far, it may be the wrong approach. I lived frugally most of my life even at times I had money or didn't. I have no problem with laws that protect me. However, there are unjust people who will abuse their authority. I don't agree all Mexicans love expats, as all Americans don't agree on everything. But decent people will treat others decently. Nasty people will treat others nasty. There's no one size fits all life choice and that's life. Fight it or go with the flow. I like listening to your perspective. Keep up the good work.
@JoseArteagaTravels

Well said. What Mexico truly offers is a respite from all the insanity of living back home. Again if you are not happy in the US because whatever you have is just never enough, you won't be happy in Mexico either. But I do think many people are unhappy in the US these days simply because they can not live a life similar to what many people in Mexico live. Sometimes all people want is to live in Peace and in Mexico that is much easier achieved. Thanks again for sharing with us!

Hola Jose! Hola Cat, good perspective.... I've always been a relatively happy person, ready with a humorous smile or comment to make others smile. It helps to be a goofy guy along with being able to laugh at one's self. Different things make different people unhappy. Most people just want to be happy in life but tend to have trouble maintaining it, be it through work, money or relationships and etc. If everyone around you seems happy and always smiling it tends to put those anxious worries on the "backburner" and make any and all of those persistent troubling thoughts go away. Being around smiling happy people all of the time will do that for a person. The friendly, welcoming people and a peaceful unhurried life in Mexico could be all someone really needs to keep that smile on their face and in their heart. No te preocupes se feliz! Much suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!

Half of my family is Mexican... I married into it! :) We had a family gathering with amazing food and games over the weekend... I was admiring how while some younger parents were able to allow the small children to run around SAFELY as all the family were looking after them... No need to hire a babysitter!! Some people at the party were drinking a little alcohol but as many more were not and nobody was unsafe... Everyone was loving and happy. This is in huge contrast to how crazy the gringos I know "party" They always have to hire a sitter because they don't stay under control.

Yes I totally agree. Coming from a Cuban household and growing up with all my Cuban Cousins and family it was a very similar upbringing. I never once had a babysitter that wasn't a family member and the parties always raged all night long and yet there were always plenty of sober family members to take care of the kids and even some of the adults lol. I much more prefer Latin/Mexican culture, it is how I was raised and how I enjoy living. In controlled Chaos. Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!

I have talked to many Mexicans who are much happier living in Mexico these days because they can now make more money in this booming economy and not have to rely on going to the USA or Canada to make more money. Many Mexicans these days can make about the same or close to the same they would be making abroad and because of that most are choosing to stay home since their quality of life is much higher out here and being with friends and family. Sure certain people can make much more in the US or Canada but for the majority they can actually make more or about the same amount just staying here in Mexico and running a small business. Things are changing for the better here in Mexico which is contributing to the sustainability of this booming economy. Again even myself at only 43 years old can live very comfortably on just $1,500 USD a month so imagine when making more. Mexico is not just for retirees anymore. Thanks for sharing!

The more developed a country becomes, the more rules and laws there are. Depending on what you desire in life, it does drive where you will be happy living. If you want to "live and let live" make sure you are also fine with letting others live as they wish! I've noticed a lot of people enjoy their freedom, but don't necessarily enjoy that of others. No, I dont feel like a criminal in my own country, and I dont see red carpet rolling out for criminals--that's more of a political opinion than fact. Freedom depends a bit on what personal freedoms you want (ie reproductive choice, or free speech, or right to protest, or freedom from taxes). But I'm also laissez-faire and let people do as they wish unless it's dangerous. I love Mexico, I was there for 4 months traveling around 30 years ago and finally went back last month, still love it.

When you say most Americans coming to Mexico wouldn't be as wealthy as the 1% in Mexico are you sure about that? Didn't you say in a prior video that the 1% in Mexico make around 50k usd a year? Most Americans these days make 70k on average man, and more and more are finding they can keep all or most of that pay when they work remotely.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 3 месяца назад
Most Americans making 70k or more a year after taxes are not moving to Mexico. Also you have to remember that Mexico is a very rich country and most Mexicans don't report all their income to the tax and Gov authorities. But long story short those that make over 70k USD a year are not complaining about financial solvency when getting residency and more and more each day you are hearing people that dont even come close to meeting the financial requirements for residency at a consulate. That is why they are going with other options such as the RNE program. Regardless we are debating over semantics. The reality is that there are many foreigners and Americans moving to Mexico and they all fit on different levels of the income ladder. Thanks again for sharing.

I honestly think it has more to do with attitude than income. I see many people out here of all income levels and what it really boils down to is whether or not they actually want to be here. Many people leave for the wrong reasons in my opinion and I think thats why they end up hating it out here in Mexico. If you got the right attitude moving to a different country should be more like an adventure and fun no matter what, but if you move reluctantly and don't give it a chance then thats when people start to get bitter and full of resentment or worse yet start to complain about everything that makes another country great. It's mostly true tho I live in Mississippi and and I live in "city" of 4000 people and they have rules and regulations here in the USA they start putting regulations at a town of 1000 people and in Mexico maybe they start putting regulations in a city of maybe 50,000 people so it's a big difference
