Lightspeed Delta Zulu vs Bose A20 headset comparison
This my down n dirty on the new Lightspeed delta zulu, v Bose A20. They're both great.Matter of fact the LS Delta Zulu is beautiful, w awesome innovations..
The A20 is an awesome headset. Hands down, across the board, Bluetooth works great, cables are fine good battery life, excellent noise cancellation/signal inversion...time tested. Have had mine for over 4 years w zero issues.
Delta zulu steps it up in the great audio department by adding an equalizer so you can adjust levels to get really really good clear audio. All adjustments to the Delta Zulu are made using their app.You go through a hearing test incorporated in the app to equalize different frequencies to help the user hear better. Its amazing and it works.
Delta Zulu has a CO2 detector feature which you really need to learn about before using. Dont use the headset without understanding CO'2 alerts and how to handle without declaring an emergency.
LD does provide a battery pack to accommodate 2 AA's and a LIon pack for backup. the downside is the delta zulu uses a UAC-type input to charge the lithium pack, why they didn't go w usb3 for charging is beyond me. Buyers may want to buy an addl usbc/usb to UAC cable for backup.W no power the set still works w no noise cancellation, like the others. The DZ app is used to set settings on this headset. Make sure the power is off when done, or you may have dead batteries next time out.DZ does annunciate battery level in percentage upon initial power on which is nice. It's supposed to turn off automatically. Mine was dead 1st time out after setting it up.It didn't power off by itself after getting charged. Recharged again, no further dead batteries.
My concern is Lightspeed Cust support doesn't really care about my suggestion to move the y type strain relief on the cable. It would cost less than making the useless little inserts for the bottom of the controller.....
In reality, If you have split inputs on a panel, lack of cable length will strain the cable, relief, and eventually, fail. As shown in the video. Considering the cost of the Delta Zulu headset, and the new improvements, one would think they'd get it right, out of the box.
After e mailing LS support my concern, I was sent a suggestion to buy a 50 dollar 3 foot extension from a pilot store...Sorry I'm not a heli crew chief and don't need an extra 3 feet... ended up using a 10-dollar 5 inch extension for one side of the cable from amazon.....Problem solved for me. The extra 8" shouldn't affect the operation of the DZ.
Just really disappointed, For what the headset costs, this should be addressed and changed. I was also advised I could return the headset within 60 days of purchase.
The Bose A 20 does not have this problem as the Y relief is far enough out to not strain anything at all.
To summarize:
The length of cable from Y to panel sucks for split input use ( see video) on Delta Zulu.
The controller is huge but effective and slightly longer than the A20
Audio quality is great, even better than A20 in my opinion.
Battery life is 30 hrs on lion pack.A20 varies, I've gotten over 30 on A20 not a deal breaker.
Bluetooth pairs easy for both w garmin gear,FF, Phones etc on both
Can use BT devices for calls, FFlight etc
Love both headsets but having to modify an important connection to make it work is complete BS in my opinion.
It's bad when you reach out to the mfg, ( Lightspeed)and they shove you off to a different reseller to spend another 50 bucks for a part a buyer should really not need based on the cost of the headset. This video and write-up is my personal opinion, I'm just a PPL w Inst. I pay for all my crap, and there are no endorsements.
I just like to have good reliable comms, if I find a reasonable problem w anything Im working with Ill make someone aware of it in good faith as a loyal customer, pilot, and to make sure Im not missing something and to get educated if need be..
Having a mid air or some other bs due to lost comms at the worst time, isn't the way i want to go down for good....I have my fix in place but wanted to pass this on in the best interest of safety. Losing comms is not a good thing. Been there done that. Enjoy1
