The New PlayStation Plus Premium is Pathetic 

Last time i remember reading a statement from one of the CEOs, or one of the tops of the playstation said why would anyone want to play old outdated games, and now they are putting behind a paywall.

Gaming is becoming more and more expensive over the years I see. I remember when I would purchase a game for fifty USD and that was it, nothing less nothing more. A complete title that I can plug and play, without WiFi or an online connection at all.

Sony knows they offer too little value with their "free games" that they lock online behind the pay wall (Same with Nintendo and Microsoft). I can guarantee that if online was just free (like it should be) 75+% of the people that currently pay for the service would cancel immediately.

In my opinion it’s better than I thought it was going to be, first they didn’t make the essential tier any worse which honestly I was expecting The extra tier is still on the verge of being worth it / a good tier as it offers a surprisingly nice lineup and possibly worth the price increase at least at launch it’s not amazing but decent The premium is basically garbage as a tier, the PS2 on PS4 games list are the same games that have been available for quite some time individually there was nothing new but for the small handful of ps1 games they added Sony did good as said in the video by allowing them to be purchased individually and they are emulated surprisingly nicely with some even having trophies added I was impressed it even acknowledged my old purchase history as I had bought wild arms on my ps3 and I was able to download it for free But yeah I agree that the ps3 cloud was lame and that the tiers aren’t especially good mostly with the premium tier being awful

I do think that the new PlayStation Plus should be more value to more consumers. What Sony should do is to rerelease the classic PS3 games to the PS Store rather than just streaming it. The good news is that you can continue to where you left off from any save data on any PS3 game as long it’s saved on cloud storage. The classic games can be purchasable, but some of them requires PS Plus Premium to play it. There was also emulation issues with certain PS2 games that Sony should fix by putting updates to it. I would stick with PS Plus Essential because, it’s the cheapest out of all three tiers. If I want to play the classic games with no issues, I could just play it on the original hardware. Another thing is that Sony should sort out which classic PS games goes to example which games belongs to the PS1 and so forth. I do think the new PS Plus will improve overtime if Sony puts more effort into making their service a lot better.

I made a good choice switching from PlayStation to Xbox because Sony has become anti-consumer with forcing people to pay up to get ultra settings or play older games, censoring anime games to harm the industry and restrict the creators' vision, making useless overpriced remakes (Like TLoU Part 1) and a PS Plus subscription that is more quantity over quality. Xbox all day with a higher quality subscription, backwards compatibility for free and stronger hardware. Sony and PS5 has officially lost this generation.

Corporate business are too greedy for their own good. Sony had a sure fire way of hooking fans with an excellent premium subscription program but instead want to nickle and dime you to maximize profits when they could've given more to garner more interest

What annoys me is that PS+ was originally supposed to be an Extra thing people could subscribe to. Not something required to play online. Sony became greedy at the start of the PS4 generation and required everyone to start paying $60 a year for something that was free from PS2 and PS3. Now they have the nerve to call a tier, PS+ Extra which is what the OG PS+ premise was. An Extra, not a requirement. I rarely buy games on my PS5, I haven't subscribed to PS+ since 2014. I buy games when they are deeply discounted and refuse to reward sony for their greediness. It is a shame that more people don't do the same. As long as people reward Sony, they will continue to perform Anti-Consumer practices.

Ape Escape 2's graphical glitches were actually common PC emulation issues with the game. I'm guessing whatever emulator they're using for PS2 titles is also struggling to render the game.

Another bad move by Sony, among many over the past few years. It's sad to see the PlayStation brand be such a shadow of its former self. I fell in love with the PS1 and have enjoyed pretty much every console since then, save for maybe the Vita. I had a digital version of Wild Arms I'd bought ages ago, it was nice to see I could redownload it, one nice gesture by Sony. The game does look good especially with the filtered sharp textures. However I'm not a big fan of the UI when playing classic games, it's a bit clunky and not attractive. One other annoying thing Sony's done with the service is lock good games behind a paywall. I believe Tekken 2 and Resident evil are only available to play with the premium service, you can't buy them to own. Very cynical move. I'm hoping they eventually become available to buy individually.

How I miss the days where you could just go to either a store or digital store, buy a game and keeping it. No subscriptions or any other bullshit like these -.-

I swapped to the monthly deal instead of yearly deal. I'm not paying a lot for something that I don't know of how it'll function from month to month. Sony is tricking you on the store front. It can be changed in the subscriptions section on the settings of the system. It's been fine for me so far but time will tell.

Small thing I noticed with the service - if you own a game physically that is on the service, you have to uninstall the game from your console and then reinstall it from the service. It doesn’t even give you the option to download anything from the service if you have the game installed from a disk. Kinda a weird complaint but Xbox doesn’t have the same issue. Seems like they could just let you install everything that wasn’t on the disk to your console

Extra is okay but premium is such a shit show. Coming from a huge fan of retro gaming there just isn’t enough there that wasn’t already available on the PS4. Sony fanboys kept damage controlling saying “this isn’t the full list” “wait till launch”, etc. Now we’re here and the only new game added was the inferior version of resident evil 1 with the god awful replaced OST. There’s so many classic PS1/PS2 games that are currently available to purchase on the PS3 store and Sony took no effort to get any of them. As dogshit as switch online is at least I can play a good amount of Nintendo’s catalogue. So much of even Sonys 1st party is missing.

100% agree on your take on the streaming games! I have 1Gb fiber interest and streaming still sucks. It's definitely playable but not without a hit to graphics and performance, regardless of if I'm playing on PS5 or Xbox Series X. I went with the Extra tier as I wanted to play some of the PS4/5 games on there so that was worth it to me.

Having backwards compatibility on both the PS4 & PS5 via streaming? But yet we can't just simply put in a physical copy of any PS1, PS2, or even PS3 games into a PS4 & PS5? No thank you, I'd rather play classics via emulation on my PC. Big gaming companies like Nintendo are getting onto us for game preservation, while at the same time they aren't doing it any better, and there's already millions of classic games available to emulate on PC. It's ridiculous how the gaming industry has come so far, but is so terrible at preserving the past. While the movie & music industry are doing it billion times better.

Fortunately since I had both subscriptions and my ps plus didn't renew until November this year my $120 cycle isn't gonna hit me until November 2023(at least that's when it says it'll renew) hopefully they'll be a better selection and worth it by that time

Lots of fair points. Demos are pretty dumb to be locked to any tier. For me it is pretty perfect timing. My ps plus for the year expires in August. So I would be shelling out probably closer to the full $60 since they launched so I doubt I’d be getting any discount you usually can get an yearly subscription. So to me I was just looking to find $40-$60 of value to me. I just got a ps5 so I don’t have a ton of games. Returnal is one I really want to check out, miles morales and the new game Stray come out in a month that will be on there day 1 so for me it’s an easy jump to at least give it a year. Then depending how they upkeep the service see if I want to go back down next year

to me this whole thing just feels like a terrible idea from the very beginning, i didnt even realize psnow was going away so i didnt finish some of the games that were on there before it left. i know they carried over a lot of games from psnow to plus and premium but they completely removed some games that were totally fine for no real reason? for me this is mainly an issue with the sly cooper games which they completely removed, you cant even buy them individually anymore, so if i wanted to play them i'd have to do it on ps2/ps3 now. overall inconvenient and not super smart from a business perspective either, considering you were able to get (more) classic games for just 60 dollars, but now need to spend a whole 120 for plus premium for less games. truly do not understand the thought process here

I actually think it's pretty cool. I normally buy 2 games a year. that's $140 plus the $60 for plus. $200. now for $130 a year I get access to hundreds of games. the catalog will grow even bigger every month. I'm excited about it!!

I think that they should release all the games from PS1 in this service. However the truth is that, even so, the price I would pay for a signature of this is $2 a month. If I want to I can buy an emulator that has all the games from PS1 for the price of $50 and they are forever, so why would I pay more than this just to have less games for a limited time? Not to mention that we already have to pay for the games that we buy. The service needs to be a lot cheaper, thats the truth.

I bought ps now a while back and I really enjoyed using it. Getting premium as a free upgrade for a full year since my now subscription is nice. Definitely wouldn't have gone for it full price tho.

I also just don't get how they don't even have half of the basics for a service like this. Someone wrote a soapbox for a PlayStation website about how "PS Plus Premium has turned my email inbox into a nightmare" because Sony has it set up so every game you add to your library acts like you bought the game and sends you a receipt, which can be terrifying if you just added like 5 $60 first party Sony games and you see receipts and you immediately jump to "Oh shoot, someone got my credit card!", even if you realize seconds later that it's nothing and it's just spam. And this isn't new either, it happens with every PS Plus monthly game you redeem as well, although that almost makes sense to send a receipt for since you keep the game, with this it's every game you download. Some people are saying "Just make a folder for it since it's effectively spam", but the thing is that this is something so BASIC that a tech giant like Sony should have no issue just having it not be there to begin with! Why should I trust that Sony will be able to manage an expensive subscription by adding news games frequently when they can't even have their automated email system tell the difference between a purchase and adding a game to your library? It might not be a serious issue, but it's definitely something Sony should've been able to figure out before this ever got into the hands of the public.

Just play the old games on an emulator on PC. Spending 1k to play old games on a PS5 is not realistic for many people these days. I’m still happy with my PS4 Pro and eventually will upgrade to a PS5.

Streaming PS3 games is completely out of the question if your internet isint up to par... and even if it is. Once it dips slightly... whatever you're playing turns into a pixalated mess and a 20sec countdown timer appears on the top right corner of you're screen warning you that you're about to get kicked off the game. Even if your internet does manage to get back to normal from the 20sec countdown, it doesint matter. Back to the main menu for you. Thanks for 120$

Bruh my gf went extra tier for only $8 for the rest of the year and she has already played 3 games that sell for $60 a piece. It's already payed for itself 3 times over.. extra is an amazing deal if you use it correctly. I can't account for premium but you have to also think 🤔 this is only the beginning, the catalogue will improve with time.

Wild ARMs looks nice most of the time. The wonky character sprites in battle were never ment to be that crisp. Lol But there are graphical bugs in the menu, and the custom design submenu is bad. The cursor dosn't line up with the immage. It makes it hard to draw the border you want. (It wasn't the best system in the first place, but this is worse.) Anyway, because I bought the game before I got it for free. I haven't played through the game in 12 years, so I am going to try to get all those trophies. But there are some very strange trophies. I also already own some of the PS2 games on PS4 already. So $125 plus premium, it's defiantly lacking on content.

I think the middle service is pretty good especially for people like me who are only just now getting PS5s and so have missed out on those early ps5 games to be able to subscribe and play Miles Morales, demon souls, ghost, return all etc is going to save fortune I don’t think I’ll jump up to the next tier tho unless they start rapidly adding huge classic titles I love also they need to get PS3 emulation going on hardware somehow it will be a technically demanding feat but I do think it’s a necessity

those ps2 games were ported to ps4 literally like 5 years ago, they’re not new games, which is why they run bad

The funny thing is you can play any PSP, PS1 and PS2 games on mobile alone for FREE. They have 3 classic platform and they only added like 30 games? I wouldn't even recommend buying a PS5 neither Xbox series, just try to save up for a decent PC where you could play literally any game any platform, i mean with PS+ extra that's more than enough for PC to get to the PS exclusive games and you know you can actually play Xbox games on any PC. So you can just download different varieties of emulators to play any classic games. I have a PS2 emulator on my phone and even a SNES with multiplayer. Honestly if i could afford a PC or. At least a laptop I'll get it and i recommend that for everyone because not only you could play but you could do a lot of other things. The PS+ premium ain't really worth it with the extra barely that much, there just aren't that many games for you to play and mostly just games that either was on PS+ before or games where you already played them. Honestly ain't much. So you basically have to pay not only for the subscription but also for a good connection if you want to play on cloud streaming which is funny because you gotta wait for your turn sometimes. A lot of friends would switch to Xbox for how PS is being shitty in different things like even regions and in store. So yeah just save up and get a PC no subscription needed to play online, you can mod games to make it more fun, you can download emulators to play classic games and variety of different games that's not available for neither Xbox or PS. What Sony pretty much did was divvy up their service formerly known as PS Now in to two tiers. That being Extra and Premuim. Definitely not an attractive split.

I had PS Now. I unsubscribed to PS Now. It had a few good games but overall it was mobile app crap (I actually have one of the PSNow games on my phone and it was free) and some of the strangest choices of titles for the money. Of the big AAA titles, there would usually only be one or two I didn’t already have. They’d also add a lot of stuff they’d given away as a monthly game. With Premium I was expecting them to really step it up and try to compete. I was expecting to be able to play the Splinter Cell games again, the old, good, WWE games again. Instead, I find I’m paying extra for access to games I already have or don’t want and if I did I could buy for a few pounds on the store. Now I hear they have a deal with Ubisoft to provide games. Great-I’m enjoying AC Valhalla, but I’d much rather have access to PlayStation’s back catalogue, than five or so games in the same series with the same mechanics. There are already other Ubisoft titles on there which are open world and as we know all Ubisoft open-world games follow the same repetitive open world formula. I honestly don’t know what the fuck is wrong with Sony, they consistently disappoint with their offerings. I know Microsoft can afford bigger losses and have more resources but Sony has the back catalogue. If they put that up, they could compete on that score, rather than try to match Game Pass with it’s day one release stuff. The older games might be dated but many of them still stand up today and I’d be more than willing to pay for access to them, probably more than I would be willing to pay for Game Pass. Older games are harder to play these days, give me that and I will give you my money. If I want new games the likes of which Game Pass offers I can buy and play them easier and quicker than I can go back and play Deus Ex: Human Revolution again, for example. All it’s done is confirm for me that next time I’ll get the XBox console, rather than Sony’s. I’ve always preferred Sony but I’m tired of feeling limited by their shitty offerings and services. On that note, EA Play is cheaper and gives you quality over quantity, discounts etc. it’s not great but for what you pay it’s better value for money than what Sony over with their stuff. They probably have less on Premium than they did PSNow. Absolute shit.

In au you pay 160 a year on Xbox to get like 90% of the games full(brand new games). Why would I pay that amount to get access to a bunch of games and have a heap restricted to trials, older games included…
