Jodie Henderson, a gay 27-year-old Afghanistan War veteran, was brutally murdered in 2016 in South Bend because he had romantic feelings for his killer, Jabreeh Davis-Martin.
Henderson’s mother, Patricia Forrest-Maxie, says if he hadn’t come out as gay, he might still be here today.
Forrest-Maxie sat down with ABC57’s Julianne Grohowski and spoke about her outlook on LGBTQ acceptance in South Bend eight years after Henderson’s death.

I take offense at the idea we have an obligation to come out.

You going to name a street after all of them, what about the people who are straight who were killed, are they going to name a street after them.

My heart goes out to this mother. I am so sorry she had her son taken from her. Yes, I agree with naming the street after Jodie.
