What's great about classic tractors is that they require minimal maintenance. What's bad about them is you really have to know what maintenance actually needs to be done to prevent hefty bills 😄

The two basic rules of thumb for restoring any vehicle. 1) Thoroughly and honestly ork out how much you think its going cost - then double it. 2) Work out how long you think it's going to take - then treble it 👍

Best tractor for me is a tractor I used to drive, when I was about 17 I worked for a small contractor, and we had 1984 IH 1455XL. It was well tweaked , 188pto hp. I used it on a DP7 Dowdswell 5 furrow plough and Reco Mengele forager.

There were so many amazing 6 cyl tractors made in that era I'd love to own 1 of each John Deere 3140, Massey Ferguson 399, Ford 8210, Case 956 XL, Fiat 110/90, Renault 106-14. I couldn't say 1 more than the other I'd want the lot.

I have great memories of ploughing in a John Deere 3140 with the round cab. I thought it was a luxury tractor in those days compared to the Ford 7000 which I used as well. Great days and nights spent in that machine pulling a 4 furrow reversible plough. Very enjoyable video.

A classic for me of that time was the John Deere 3350 4 wheel drive with the castor front axle, great turning circle, and when a turbo was added a good pulling tractor 👍 had one for 5 years. The 7810 will look great and be a lovely tractor to use when done 😁

The one for me would be the case 1455, spent a fair amount of time on one in my younger days. Great tractor, and the whistle from them was something else👌👌 I recently sorted a IH 674, not to show room just to working condition and I’m still getting over the cost of it☹️☹️

Great video 😊 keeping up the good work. The tractor I would love to get is a John Deere 2650 4wd with SG2 cab. I remember the first time seeing one in the mid 90’s in West Cork. I was about 11/12 when my cousins bought a secondhand one. What a lovely tractor when the first time driving her with its light steering and the 40km box. I still remember the sound out of her when I was with my cousin opening her up in the field. A lovely tractor 😊

Good video, it's always good to have a rough figure in mind when stating out on projects, it's usually the smaller things that hike the cost up, £30 for this, £40 for that, it soon adds up. As for tractors it would have to be a David Brown/Case 90/94 series, about every farm where I stayed had at least one of them, most were replaced with a 7810

Great video kurt, love these sort of vids showing how costly a tractor can be. If I could I’d have a Massey Ferguson 3070 lovely little tractor. The one on my dads old farm was used for top dressing, hedge cutting, rolling and pulling the game cart.

We had a 2wd mf690 fitted with a turbo. I think she was putting out about 90hp. Fantastic little tractor that definitely punched above her weight. Gear box worked flawlessly and the cab was such a nice place to do a days work. The note and whistle coming out the exhaust was top notch. Obviously had rust issues and a few oil leaks here and there. Also had a knack to starting it on a "cold" morning. All things considered my favourite tractor I've operated from that era.

Great video Mucka, no nonsense breakdown of the cost. For me I would have to say Ford 8210 with the super Q Cab, when I was a young pup local contractors always had a fleet of 8210s in Q cab and Super Q cab form, carting silage or spreading Slurry the Look and raw sound of the 6 cylinder always brings back fond memories of the good ole days.👍

A dream favourite for me has to be a schluter super 1500 (still available in the 80’s just) for the simple reason the cutting edge phenomenal engineering and high specs. Yes designed in the 70’s but built right through the 80’s to be 150hp, air brakes, synchro box with the turbomatic clutch, sliding door, forward facing windscreen (behave Massey with your new shiny 8S) and a hydraulic rear tilting cab- a feature still not available on a 2021 high spec fendt or Deere. For repairs you’d still struggle today to find a tractor for ease of servicing like a schluter but then again they were the rolls Royce at at least twice the price of a 1055 international or a 3050 Deere but obviously twice the tractor- imagine how you’d feel to be at the helm of such a big tractor in those days.

There was a number of Schluter tractors in '70s and '80 in Ex-Yugoslavia. During the war,my village was occupied for 8 years, after reintegration of occupied territories to Croatia, including my village, there was a state company in village which had about 2500 ha of land, the main working tractors during occupation where very badly maintaned Schluters, 125-140hp,4 of them. They where bought new in mid '70s.. from than to late '90s, those tractors where known to work for 2 months day and night. Especially during occupation, ploughing few houndreds of ha, heavy soil, each one of them And all 4 of them, where still working. I think that they where the most durable tractors ever made.

When I was a kid in the 80's / early 90's I was friendly with the farmer over the road, lovely old boy, would do anything for anyone if he could. He had a variety of classic kit but the daily workhorse was a Massey 595. First tractor I ever rode in that was. He had it from new right up to about 2015/6 when he retired and sold the farm yard (the fields were leased if I remember but the house and yard were his). Shite new build houses on it all now. At least they left the conker trees.

Great video. Watching you from across the pond in Canada. But as a teenager I lived in Cumbria and helped out on weekends and holidays at a local dairy farm so a lot of these tractors were on the local farms in my area. I dont see them much now because many of them were never sold in North America. 3350s and 7810s are rare over here. Instead its mainly 7710s, 6610s and 8210s in that size for Ford and 2955s, 3150s, 3140s, 2950s for Deere. One tractor they had on the farm I worked on which I loved and again you dont find in North Amerca was a Case 1694 with the Hydra Shift. i think thats what they called it. It was such a nice tractor to drive and that would probably be my choice for a UK tractor from the 80s

Classic tractor prices in the US have skyrocketed in the last 2 years. Have looked @ some of the UK dealers w/ sizable export operations & those values for classic machines are rather inflationary compared to just 5 years ago. Although not classic models, you know Wes Pandy made some attractive UK purchases not long ago.

I would go for the fendt favorit 612lsa. Being small child and spending a lot of time on a ford8100 tool then to have a massive passenger seat was great. Many yrs later I’m working amfor an agco dealer working on modern fendts. How ever I’m the first to jump when the old school stuff rolls In. Great Original example you have there! A bit of your TLC, and it will look amazing! A Classic I would love to own would be a Ford 6410. My Dad bought one back in 1990 and it was his first 4 wheel drive tractor. We (regrettably) sold it back in 2012. My first time Power harrowing solo was with that tractor, and I felt like the bees knees at 13! I grew up around the tractors of the late 90s and 00s, but that 6410 was the tractor I really learnt to drive and work with. They're a great little tractor, which I hold with some sentimental memories of my childhood years.

Great videos mate dream tractor would have to be a case 956xl as a young boy remember a local farmer had one. Whenever I could hear that distinctive exhaust note working nearby where I lived I’d pester my parents to go for a watch. And me dad knowing couple of driver I’d sometimes get to go for a ride. But the best part of this story is as a younger man (college student) I got a part time job on this farm which this same tractor was an still is as far as I know is the main tractor on the farm.

1980 massey 240. Why? Because I had the opportunity to buy it with a genuine 460 hours on it. It was previously a grass mower with brackets for a belly mount and was offered with grass tyres. The story goes it was ex mod stationed on Gibraltar air field but I have yet to find actual proof of that. It now lives in semi retirement being occasionally used with a transport box for moving the odd sheep or logging jobs. It's only fault was needing a new fuel tank as bits of shite got into the pump. It's a beautiful thing.

It wouldn’t win many popularity contests but for me it would be a zetor 10145 with the Duncan cab. When I was 16 my father owned one, it had its faults the gearbox took some mastering and when the brakes warmed up you had none but when you pushed the lever forward at the steering wheel to knock it up to 40k it felt like you were doing 60mph and with little to no brakes it left life interesting but would still love one back in the yard.

Great video as always chap👍🏻 I think for me it would have to be one of the late County tractors something like a 1474, mostly because my earliest childhood tractor memories are of my dad driving a County in a sand quarry near Charing in Kent and being totally in awe of what was at the time an absolute monster of a tractor. Sadly the prices of even really rough Countys are now way above my price range so I’m not likely to ever own one but the contribution made to British and worldwide agriculture by County and other 4wd conversion companies like them really is in my mind somewhat under appreciated.

great video, certainly not a cheap hobby for sure , will you be fitting front mudguard’s on her at some point ,never sure if they were standard or not on fords of that age . my classic, our old MF 698t swb, was a real pocket rocket, would on one given the chance any day ,dealt with everything we needed from it with ease, and was great in the yard being a swb

Don't know if you class it as a "real" tractor, but a Ford 1500 would be ideal for looking after a few acres at the stables and small enough to live in the storage tent we have.

Oddly enough, I'd love to have a Ford 1000 to 2000 series. I drove a1900 diesel for a few years at a park district I worked at in the 80s. Loved that tractor!❤️

Good stable of classic tractors, the right ones better than money in the bank. Case ih/David brown 1394 75 ish hp but pookie wee bugger pulled like a small train. My Dad pulled a 12 dump trailer with ours brakes in the spool that was Good crack. We had a mf 390 at the same time I'd pick the 1394 over it every time.

Lord Muck ,I would love to have a Ford 4600 bubble cab . My uncle used to have one and I remember summer holidays that seemed to go on forever in a good way helping with the harvest . Grain and straw carting with one . Such memories,he had an old Ransomes 802 combine ,that used to chug on and on too .

Would love a Leyland 604 (harvest gold) to sit next to my 602, that’s about the stage after your 7810, it’s already apart and I’m moving forward with her. Obviously I’d love a Marshall 100. But that’s lottery time 💰💰🙈😆

Really enjoyed that video mucker, thanks for doing it. I know my way round a motor but not tractors so I found it rally interesting and informative. I guessed £500 on that exhaust, £876 is nuts!

Best tractor would be a 1982 fw 60, always wanted one but the closest I've got is watching one at a plough match and trying to explain to a uninterested wife that it's the dogs bollocks of tractors, chunky was more interested in the burger van. Keep up the great and informative vids, kick the old fud weasel and do well 👍

I think modern tractors are for contractors, classic tractors are great for farmers and collectors for investments or a hobby, I run a fleet of classics and get told by modern tractor owners that I should buy a new one 🙄. I really couldn’t care less for a new one, just because a tractors new doesn’t mean it doesn’t break down.

Great post it's going to be nice build its one of the best project 7810's I've seen in a while most are to knackered to salvage 👍if I had a choice I would have my dad's old1985 Massey 240 back got plenty of memories of happy times 👌

I was lucky enough fulfil my childhood ambition to own a Deere, I now own a 1985 JD 2140, 4wd, SG2 cab. Still a useful tractor for a lot of jobs and if you can offset some of the costs involved with maintaining a classic by doing some work with it, happy days!

I would have many tractors from the 80’s ranging from Valmet, Massey, Deere, Case and Fendt but since I like being a little Different; the classic tractor I would love to own would be a Same Hercules 160. Not very common but they were a strong tractor, mainly for cultivations. They were also used in forestry around Europe due to their weight, high torque and low maintenance.

The real cost is quite Deere, not unafFORDable, a CASE of FENDTing the spare brass and even at INTERNATIONAL level going on trips to NEW HOLLAND with an old MASSEY could be a steep MUIRHILL to climb. However, STEYERing on the subject I believe you don't need to be as rich as Catherine ZETOR Jones or have an Aston Martin DAVID BROWN 7 in the garage to visit mount Kubota in Japan with your old McCormick! My brain is hurting melody, please forgive me!

I have great memories of the Chamberlin 4480 on duels fully weighted and water in the tyres. The most honest tractor I have ever operated. I wish the Harvest gold Leylands came to Australia because I would have to rate them if they are as good as the 272 and 270 I own.

A favourite of mine has got to be in that era the Ford TW15 Force 2, lovely looking machines with stacks of power but without the hugeness of the 25 and 35, well layed out mechanically and make a wonderful sound, and despite the crash gearbox, like most Fords of that era once you got it right was a nice strong box to use.

Great video mucka. For me would be a gen2 4610. We had one was such a amazing work horse. old girl just lasted and lasted like yours was getting rough around the edges. Had the opportunity to buy old girl but buying my first house had to let her go. But I still keep an eye out just in case she pops back up

The classic tractor I’d like to own is a 1990 case fwd 7150 magnum. The reason for this is it’s the first tractor I ever drove, it’s for nostalgia reasons. I am loving the videos! Really informative I am learning a lot through watching it. I have done classic cars and always fancied the step up to tractors, also have the real itch to do a classic lorry.

Lord Muck, i would love to re own at John Deere 3040 2wd sg2 cab, i bought a X reg one as a toy back in 2003 but it soon got me going with my own contracting business, i used it for arable work and then put it on a hedge cutter and served me well for 6 years, put 5000 hrs on it and sold it for £500 more than i bought it for, the one regret is selling it, would love to own one again (currently have a JD 2450 as a toy) but long for a 3040, true power of the 80's everyone says you need 4wd, i managed fine with 2wd in the floods of 2008, its a case of drivers and screw drivers! keep up the good work, i love your channel
