Paul Chek explains how to use the reverse hyperextension exercise where he demonstrates the movement on a Swiss ball. The exercise can be effectively done on a variety of back hyperextension benches available in most gyms. He has used this exercise in many instances to help people that previously couldn’t do much of any exercise due to serious injuries to their lumbar spine, such as disc bulges and vertebral endplate fractures.

I just wanted to point out that the bent over lifting can be due to... a baby! My 9mo is a living, babbling, pooping adorable 24-hour 10kg medicine ball that's doing my back in... so very glad to have stumbled upon this great advice ...tbh I heard it first on Athlean-X but I believe it's better explained and demonstrated here! 👍🏻

Hey Paul, Could you do a video on CNS recovery? All the information I can find is extremely generic i.e. sleep, eating the proper amount of calories and staying away from caffeine. it would be much appreciated as I know you would provide fresh and unorthodox information on the subject.

Best exercise to fix lower back pain... I fucked up my L5S1 back in 2017, and tried all sorts of stuff to fix it. From chiropractic to physical therapy, and even considering the possibility of orthopedic surgery... Shit, I even tried latex bands. None of it worked. First, I discovered inverted decompression, then I found ankle weighted donkey kicks on a hyperextension bench (superior to doing it on an exercise ball or flat bench). People might look at you weird if you're doing an exercise backwards on a hyperextension bench, but believe me, the stretch you will feel on your sciatic nerves is worth it.
@PaulChekLive

HI, Glad you were able to improve your back condition Alex! For those that have a back hyper-extension bench, that is very helpful, particularly as one can handle greater loads. The Swiss ball's added element of enhancement is that because the ball is unstable, doing the exercise activates your core muscles, which a stable bench or machine of any kind will not. You'd probably find starting with the back hyper-extension bench for the heavier work followed by using the Swiss ball for additional core development superior as a combination. +James Goldberg You won't be disappointed! My programs are a lot more holistic, well designed to teach the students the skills they need to be objective and masterful in their prescription of exercise, and much more. My programs teach students to master both the basics, and the essentials of what one must have mastery of to be effective in corrective and high performance exercise, as well as holistic lifestyle coaching, and to understand how their mind and life work (PPS Success Mastery). Naturally, that is how I feel about my own programs, but you will certainly be able to judge for yourself. Love to hear what you think of EC when you take it. My instructors are all truly Masters, which most other organizations can't match. Love and chi, Paul Chek

These programs have been by far the most valuable investments I've made in my professional development as a trainer and wellness coach. They go far beyond teaching you what to think...and instead teach you HOW to think when working with clients and/or your own health. You most certainly will not be disappointed.

Hi Paul, I twinged my lower back for the first time today doing squats (bouncing out of the bottom) and need to work on my core and lower back before progressing, can I do these every day? Or should I do only core training 3x per week for a week or so before trying to progress on my squat and DL. Thanks for the informative videos keep them coming, love the holistic approach and bought the book. Yet to read it though.

I'm not trained professional, but I think you shouldn't strain yourself by doing it too often. I did the "flying man" swiss ball move, 30 seconds on your stomach on swiss ball hands and feet in the air, 2-3 reps a day, every 2-4 days which equals a 1-3 days off from it. That's been feeling good for me. Good as in I make some progress with it and the muscle group hasn't pain or chronic fatique. You just gotta keep checking what rest interval is good for you.

I am a framer carpenter so i build houses out of wood all day I've been very mindful of my posture since i started this job a few years ago. Most of the time I'm bent over working on the floor i try to kneel as much as possible and if I'm not bent over working I'm picking up lumber and moving it. i thought if my posture is perfect i could only get stronger, but it appears lower back muscles are over fatigued due to slight pains. Id like to address this before it gets worse I've bought your book before but i lent it to a friend and it was never returned. Besides this exercise is there other excercises i can do to help the lower back relax? Sorry for the long comment but I've been following you for years and i have you to thanks for my health.

Hey paul ive been very serious with your 4 doctors for a while and having a strong motivation to get myself healthy and vital! Ive studied your Healing fungal and parasite dvd sets also and started to implement your teaching there. My question is during all my teenage years ive had symtpoms of fungal infections , skin problems and had yeast/candida and things of theese kinds. Im just hear looking for some words of wisdom in my healing journey and what good herbs you reccomend in general in a case of mine? (since you reccomend ALOT of different herbs in your program?) Would really appricate it thanks paul... Big hug Michael
@paulchek1781
@paulchek1781 8 лет назад
+Yulioconstas My words of wisdom are: 1. You will learn A LOT about yourself through your healing process. You are being given an opportunity to expand your consciousness and move to a higher level of awareness and self-management, which is a true "spiritual practice". 2. I'd recommend you hire a Chek HLC 2 or 3 practitioner to guide you. There can be many situations where you need skilled help to effectively manage the many variables you will have to deal with in a case like yours. 3. Consider how long you've lived "out of balance" and know that it takes a good year for most people to balance themselves and heal, with skilled coaching involved. That said, don't expect miracles to happen overnight. That will just leave you deflated and frustrated because that is an unrealistic proposition to begin with. See the whole process as a "spiritual journey", which is exactly what life is. Than go day by day, doing your best each day, and know that by being aware and participating fully with yourself, you will learn all that your soul is calling you to learn at this time in your life. Love and chi, Paul Chek

+UrbanRunner7 Yes. Anyone can enter the Chek Academy as long as they do the studies and pass the prerequisite tests for each course; there are mentors in the program to help people, and we provide a list of all the suggested study resources so they know what they need to learn and how and where to get the study resources. My programs are all multidisciplinary, and students range from house wives and carpenters (wanting to heal themselves or to transition into being a Holistic Health Professional) to trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, and doctors. You can learn more about the Academy program at www.chekinstitute.com or www.chekeurope.com if you live in Europe. Love and chi, Paul Chek

evening paul, a week ago i started a protocol from your dvd to clean my gut and restore gut balance, Now what im expierencing is probably a bacteral/fungal die off, I had bouth for the last 2 days with very much diarrea, What i see also in my stool is ALOT of mucus and also food particles that i never seen in my bowels before, Is the Rapid transit time of foods a symtpom of the die off effects? Seems most logical, thoughts?
@paulchek1781
@paulchek1781 8 лет назад
+Torrezyay158 Yes, it is most likely to be exactly that. If you are seeing mucus it suggests both food intolerance and parasites irritating the small intestine and colon, so you may start seeing a variety of interesting things come out as you progress; better out than in.... I'd recommend you slow down on the products/herbs when the symptoms are getting too strong for you to function at an adequate level. You can overwhelm your detoxification systems with too much die off and there is no need to torture yourself. To clean and restore the gut, and kill down the bad bacteria and parasites is a process that can go on in waves for up to a year, so it is better to learn to manage your pace such that you can stick at it for how ever many months it takes to finish the job. If you are feeling overwhelmed, you can even take 1-3 days off. It is good to "keep the bugs guessing"; if they are constantly bombarded with the same products, they adapt to them and they don't work any longer, so be sure you are using the rotation plan I suggested in my DVD series. Where people fail most often with this kind of project is by continuing to eat the things that both bring in bad bacteria and parasites, and FEED THEM! Your body, and your bugs are guiding you to the wisdom of effective self-management, so it is wise to be a good student or you'll end up chasing problems of all sorts for the rest of your life. I see it all the time. I've seen elite athletes get 6-10 parasite infections in the span of a year to 18 months because they kept taking "kill pills", while also continuing to use all their sweet, mostly junk "sports performance drinks and foods", while often eating FAR TOO MUCH carbohydrate and simple sugars for what their body needs; they read too many magazines and books on performance nutrition, 99% of which are just garbage.... Ok, that's my list of suggestions for you today. Love and chi, Paul Chek

Hey, Paul. This is completly unrelated to this video but i could not find any answer on this on my own. I read a article you made 2004 about food combinations. In your article you say don't mix starches and proteins together. Does this mean that lets say for dinner i eat rice and maybe a pear before eating a fish or protein of some sort is "wrong" or atleast not the most optimal way of meal spacing? Should i rather just eat protein and fat for a meal and then eat carbs for the next if i feel like it? Love and Chi. Simon
@paulchek1781
@paulchek1781 8 лет назад
+Simon Petersen Hello, Food combining is not something that a person with a healthy digestive system should need to worry about. If your body produces enough hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes, you should be able to eat pretty much what you like (within reasonable boundaries). To the degree that digestion is compromised, the guidelines of food combining should be adhered to. Love and chi, Paul Chek

Dear Paul Chek, I am an HlC 1 and I have Been Living the principles pretty well lately, but I usually still have to wake up in the middle of the night at least once to pee. It is very annoying, any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks, Alex
@paulchek1781
@paulchek1781 8 лет назад
+Alex Fata HI Alex, It could be that: A. Your body is detoxifying at night. The urinary system is part of your detoxification system. If you are eating better quality foods, or are using supplements such as vitamins or specific detox supplements that support the detoxification pathways in the liver, you can be generating more urine to support that function. B. You may not have enough total dissolved solids in your water, which causes the body to push the water out to keep intra-cellular and extra-cellular fluids balance in mineral content. C. It could be anxiety over something, which also stimulates urine production. E. It could be that your last meal of the day is not balanced correctly for your metabolic needs; most common is eating too much carbohydrate relative to fat and protein. This most commonly occurs when people don't factor desert foods, or sweetened drinks into their overall metabolic balance. The result is blood sugar imbalances at night, which elevate cortisol levels and trigger a stress response, which increases urine flow in general. See if you can work with these tips and help balance your body. Love and chi, Paul Chek

how can you recommend an exercise without first determining if the person has a mobility or a stability problem? this is an exercise to improve stability hence a person with a mobility issue will have difficulty performing it and will definitely compensate and develop other micro-injuries.

@paulchek1781
@paulchek1781 8 лет назад
+Oscar Perez Hi Oscar, This forum is designed to "share information", and I have to leave it to each person to be responsible for "what they choose from the menu". As Mik said rightly below, I'm not prescribing, I'm "sharing ways and methods". If you want that level of specificity, that is what my professional training programs are for. The fact is, 99% of the people viewing my videos wouldn't know how to do the assessments to rule spinal pathology out, nor would they even understand the words I'd have to use to explain the various spinal pathologies, nor be able to effectively design a program to meet the criteria of the many various red flags that are possible. You could easily place your demands or comments on every exercise offer, book, and teacher in the world from jumpy bumpy classes to Jack LaLane to Jane Fonda... You don't do blood sugar management tests for everyone buying soda or eating at a restaurant do you? Sometimes, things have to be practical, and everyone needs to take responsibility for what they "CHOOSE" to use or apply in their lives. Love and chi, Paul Chek

+Paul Chek greetings Paul. we as movement therapists and fitness leaders have a responsibility to educate people and now is easier than ever before because of social media and streaming outlets. We must do our best to continue to change the paradigm and the status quo that the fitness industry has adopted for the past 30 years which is mainly focused in aesthetic-cosmetic fitness. Gray Cook noticed it 15 years ago when her created FMS and now he has also incorporated into his system "Natural Movement". I do not have a problem with anybody showing and/or recommending exercises if the presenter explains beforehand the nuances of it. General population will gain plenty once we start educating them and give them the tools to better themselves. Not everybody has the means nor the time to take courses, buy books or even afford go to a gym.
