I hope this gives you a better idea of how I expect my "all in" process to work for me. As I say in the video, I'm not trying to say that everyone should do this, I'm just explaining to you why I've decided to take on the journey, FOR ME! I'm just sharing my journey and sharing what I've learned along the why. I love you guys to the moon and back, thank you for sticking with me 🙏
And I want to give a big thank you to Kayla and Alice for sending me pictures to use for this video, they have amazing RU-vid channels so check them out!

The reason people rebound so hard after losing weight is because they are only focused on losing "weight". If more people made it a priority to gain muscle instead of losing weight, it wouldn't be as easy to yo-yo back up to their starting weight once they come out of a caloric deficit. If a novice wants to loses 30lbs of fat but puts on 15lbs of muscle in their first year, wouldn't it be much easier to maintain their new "set weight" given that their metabolism will essentially stay the same now that they have an extra 15lbs of muscle they didn't previously have to maintain despite having lost 30lbs of fat? Compare this to someone who only does cardio 4 times a week and eats in high caloric deficit and loses those same 30lbs of fat in 6 months. Who is more likely to rebound?
@haleyg4952
@haleyg4952 4 года назад
How does the set weight point theory apply to those who from a young age were overweight because of the type of food in their childhood home and from mimicking the eating habits of parents? If you've been overweight/obese from age 10, does that mean it is your 'set point' weight? You focus a lot on people who were normal weight, then unhealthily thin and how they bounce back, but what about those who started way overweight and then lost a bunch of weight (in a bad way with an eating disorder)? Will they return to being overweight?

Hi Stephanie, I’m a 23 year old male. Weightlifting for 6 years. Been on and off dieting for 3 years straight, 3 years of extreme hunger followed by binging. A problem I never knew existed until these videos. We’re talking feeling ice cold in the morning, zero sex drive, absolutely fatigued. I’m 1 month into my all in, and I had forgotten what it feels like to feel this alive. Energy surging, strength gains, happiness and excitement in life, sex drive, motivation for everything. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have even gathered enough courage to share my emotions about something I thought would be “pathetic” for a man to struggle with, with my girlfriend. She supports me on this journey. To the men out there, it’s easy to think these type of disorders are only affecting women, and we may brush it off and never realize we are actually facing the same issue. It creeps up and we ignore it!

This feels like a new era of fitness where it's about going back to normal - to our body's need for balance and fullness - and leaving this lifestyle of pressure (to look a certain way) and the need to control and manipulated what is already a functional beast machine (for most people) because of vanity issues. I love the fact that it's about understanding and listening to your own body and trusting this awesome creation - our actual home. Love you Stephanie and, more importantly, thank you 🧡🌷

I juSt wanted to say I did this exact method and it worked. I was a binge eater for over 5 years - I struggled with nighttime binges often 2000+ calories. I found “Follow The Intuition” on RU-vid (amazing resource for binge eaters) and she recommends a process exactly like this to recover from BED. It truly works. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted (huge quantities! Often days it was 3000+ calories but I did this consistently and purposefully). After a few months of this I regained my hunger cues and my food obsessesions ended, I never thought they would end. I’m now 1.5 years in remission, and over 25lbs down from my binge weight. I eat like a NORMAL PERSON with NORMAL HUNGRR CUES. I can have one or two Oreos and not be afraid of eating the entire box, I can eat a few scoops of ice cream without spiraling out of control, I maintain my weight now effortlessly and allow myself days where I eat a lot more (I love food!) as I trust my body to balance itself out

That's awesome Emma! I've been into fitness culture for years now, but after 5 months of dieting to get incredibly lean I developed some seriously unhealthy attitudes toward food. And a year of yo-yoing later, finally realized that I gave myself BED. So far, paying attention to my natural signals and not judging myself for cravings is incredibly freeing. Hearing stories like this gives me hope that I can relearn normal eating. Thanks for sharing your inspiring story, can't wait to check out "follow the intuition" :)

I wonder how age effects this. Going "all in" at 20 vs. 30 vs 40 can be different as there are metabolic changes with age.
@friendoftherese1

Interesting question. I'm 59 and recovering from an eating disorder relapse due to intermittent fasting. So far I've gained 20+ pounds and seem to be hovering at a pretty steady weight. No calorie counting, no restricting, but the weight does redistribute a bit differently post menopausal. I have more tummy fat, but I kind of like it actually, and my husband certainly loves the curvier me!
@Mexicobeanpole
@Mexicobeanpole 4 года назад
I certainly wonder how going “all in” would work at 58 and post menopause. I have been dieting up and down a 30 lb range at 5’9” for 40 years. I have a harder time now, more than ever, with extreme hunger when eating at a deficit. I think I’ve wrecked my metabolism.
@Atheria444
@Atheria444 4 года назад
Yep. At 52+ just LOOKING at food, I gain weight. :-( If I actually went all in, I'd gain 100 lbs.
@ashachase2010
@ashachase2010 4 года назад
This is true your metabolism does change but not as significantly as most like to say. The gain in fat/weight is due to becoming less active as you age and the fact that most people lose muscle too as they age, which lowers your BMR. Women too are affected by some hormonal changes but this can be improved too through regular strength training and eating enough calories and protein to support your physical activity. Actually the older you get the more important your protein intake becomes to help you maintain your muscle. So the fix is to keep strength training in some way and exercising regularly. Most people don't need to do this "all in " process either. It's extreme and not necessary.
@Atheria444
@Atheria444 4 года назад
@@ashachase2010 I have quite a bit of muscle (actually, more than when I was 20 and a recent Watsu practitioner commented that I was solid muscle) on my petite frame and am very hyperactive in general. Still, there is a clear difference in how easily I can gain weight and how hard it is to lose even a pound. I'm a yoga junkie and do other things. I do agree, though, that MANY people just lose muscle and get more inactive as they age, which causes metabolism to plummet. But, hormones do factor in...annoyingly.

This is so interesting. I used to weigh 130 for years and thought I needed to lose. I've gained an unhealthy amount of weight over the last 5 years and now weigh my highest at about 185. Although, I do need to lose weight, my goal was always to get down to 120 - up until I stared watching Steph's all in journey. I now don't feel the need to obsess about the number or try to get super lean. I think I would be happy at a higher weight than my former low weight, as long as I feel healthy and strong.

This is when you really are put to the test where your mindset and how you feel about your body, your "worthiness" and "value" is truly tested. But I can't wait to go back to where I was in my early 20's when I was freely eating, training, but felt so alive and didn' t have a care in the world about calories or macros!

I was 150lbs and managed to drop to 115lbs on a limited diet and constant binging and purging .On the 15th Of this month I decided I couldn’t enable myself to keep hurting my body and I had chosen to go all in. I have extreme hunger and I’ve already gained so much as well as dealing with edema. I’m only a little over a month in and I’ve received my period back. Stephanie, this is such an important topic. Having gone through it as a guy in my 20’s when I was at university, I can tell you it felt terrible and really lonely at times being a male. Throughout high school I was naturally 205 to 210 lbs, and got into an intense lifting regimen in college and proceeded down the path of disordered eating, getting down to 175 lbs on my 6ft frame which doesn’t sound unusual to some people, but when you realize everyone has a different physiological frame and build, I looked skeletal and unhealthy at that weight on my frame. I realized a year or so later that I had a problem after I was eating 1400 calories a day as a college kid and was utterly obsessed with food and every single gram of cereal I could fit in those 1400 calories. I did the same research you have and bought in. Oh boy was I in for a wild ride. I shot up to 240lbs at my highest (everybody’s overshoot will be wildly different depending on what your body needs. For anybody reading, do not take my weight as a scientific test case) in 5 to 6 months. Eating 5000 to 7000 calories sometimes. Constant re-reading of the literature and affirmation that what I was doing was right was seriously needed. It sucked, a lot. But I was happy I could eat normally again. About a year and a half later, I naturally was back to 210. I didn’t do anything at all to get there except eat to satiety and learn to enjoy food and my life again. You’re doing the right thing. And the fitness community needs to know that this goes on and under-eating is a problem.

This information is largely derived from the ED recovery scientific community. Minnie Maud or Minnesota-Maudsley method of treating annorexia and other eating disorders! Stephanie packages it in a way that makes it more approachable and less clinical for those who are not ready to grapple with the label of a true eating disorder, which has its pro and cons. Pros are that, again, it accessible. Cons are that the psychological toll is not accounted for necessarily (not that its a youtubers job) and if someone approaches all in after severe restriction, they can can suffer severe electrolyte deficiencies and metabolic refeeding syndrome. Anyone who is severely restricted should be working with a health professional to avoid refeeding syndrome! Aside from that, this info is packaged succinctly.

I was on a cut diet for two months and experienced extreme hunger pangs all the time. Thank God I discovered you. I was 49 kgs when I ate on a cut and now I am back to my normal weight i.e. 53kgs. I look the same and eat healthy home-cooked food. I no longer suffer from extreme hunger. I have realised that we are real women, not someone who looks like those photoshopped models. You saved me! This was VERY true for me. I struggled with anorexia in high school and got down to 100 pounds (I’m 5’8” so that’s way too low). While recovering I gained 42 pounds in the span of a year, then after my body was comfortable again and knew I wasn’t going to starve I lost 10 of those pounds and found a very healthy weight. My period came back and now 4 years later I have a beautiful baby boy. Thank you for sharing with the world!

I never knew there was a process to this. I’ve been following you for years and I can say you are the most genuine and smartest fitness/food RU-vidr. I did a npc bikini competition in 2017 and I started at 123 to 117 pounds stage weight. 2 month prep. 1500 cals. 2 hrs ago of cardio and lifting everyday. After the competition, I had a ravenous appetite. Long story short I connect with you and your story. Once I became ALL IN for a few months I went up to 145+ pounds. I became pretty self conscious about myself after gaining the weight, but I knew my body was hungry for a reason so I kept eating what I wanted and remained patient. After about 7 months of training and eating whatever I craved, my appetite slowly became smaller and smaller. Now I am back to a happy set point of 123-128 pounds. My ratio of healthy/junk foods is about 70/30. Also in female news, my period came back from a one and a half year of absence! All n all I love all the information you’ve put out all these years. We all love you!

I don't normally comment on videos, but I have to say THANK YOU. I discovered you a month ago through the video about you going all in (recommended by RU-vid). And this is how I discovered that I wasn't the 'healthy and fit girl' I thought I was (and everybody thought) but that I actually had an eating disorder and that I needed recovery. I finally understood the reasons behind my extreme hunger, no period, changes of mood and chronic fatigue (or maybe I just tackled them for the first time). Thanks to your videos I started recovery before it was too late. I am feeling way better and free, I am enjoying life again and I hope I'll get my period back soon. Keep up the good work. You're doing great and should be proud of it!

I love this Stephanie!! Definitely is helping me learn my own recovery process. I went all in without consciously knowing I was "going all in", I just made the decision to listen to my hunger cues which has lead me to gain weight and question everything. Obviously weight is not everything and shouldn't determine your worth, but it can take a hit on someone's confidence at first if you're used to a certain weight or size. Really all you're doing though is giving your body what it needs to survive and thrive at that specific time in your life. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!

Hi Stephanie! If this helps, I went all in about a year and a half ago. Was not underweight when I started. Went from a BMI 22 to about a 27 in about 3 months.. it was a difficult time but I got my cycle back in 9 weeks. I maintained the new BMI for about 5 months or so. Since January, I have been steadily losing the excess weight. I have lost about half of it now. I still had to be conscious of what I was eating but I didn't hardcore diet or exercise. Hope this helps. It will definitely take time! Cheers!

@@lizr7963 Took me about 4-5 months to see any shift even if I ate less. It definitely takes time. It also takes some adjustment.. I was used to feeling full on 3000 cals on my short 4'10" (148cm) frame when I was going all in. I just slowly pulled back to normal amounts and stopped having a whole bar of solid chocolate every day (hey.. I needed a way to easily hit that calorie goal without feeling bloated.) My personal protocol was a little different than Stephanie's because of my HA and our histories and bodies are completely different.. but yeah.. I found it took a while for the number to start reversing even though I started working out (dance classes) and eating better. (By better I mean more in line with what's a good amount and more nutritious, and still having treats but not having large quantities like I was having beforehand.) Hope this helps!

@puccarts 4 года назад
Zarnigar Wakeel Going back to NOT forcing myself to eat an excessive amount like I was beforehand. When going all-in, I hit a minimum of my maintenence+50% and usually around 3000 calories. I did this knowing that I had this goal in place so Stuff like nuts, icecream and chocolate helped reach this amount with minimum bloating. After getting my period I just slowly returned to a normal eating pattern but I did not lose right away. It’s really slow for me but I just go through my day eating until I feel full without forcefeeding myself like I was earlier. Now I go to the park with some friends from work and play around on the monkeybars and do some exercise but more in a fun way. We do this 3x a week. My case is different than Stefanie’s. I had HA. I was misdiagnosed for 5 years so I was willing to overshoot quickly in order to get hormones in order. Everyone is different but consult your doctor please.
