I love your work! Fiberglass resin absolutely changes shape when it goes through the chemical process of hardening up. Your "unorthodox" way you do your work is genius! Thank you for the time you take for your videos. I have 20 years of professional installations so I know what works, and what doesn't, from trial and error like most. Excellent work sir! Love it!
You and me both!! yesterday a slathered my pillars with glasfiber filler..and now i am sanding like crazy...cheating a little bit with my power sander and dremel...but it is fulfilling once the things start to take shape!
You always make your sound incredible P. Especially through my headphones. Phenomenal sound. Not all distorted slap and that. Sounds like music and not mechanical noise. Awesome!
O.M.G just wow Peter, only you can go to that extent to achieve perfection, congratulations on hitting 5K subscribers although it should be in millions, there are so many people in RU-vid doing the silliest of thing that doesn't contribute to your daily life in anyway form or shape and have millions of subscribers, life is not fair, Many thanks once again for sharing mate you are an inspiration as said many times
BADASSBASSBOY69XXX haha yeah, half a million subs would sort my life out for sure, but if it’s only done for chasing numbers, then it’s just selfish! Doing this channel is a long term plan to contribute to the culture, which always pays off! 👌🔊🔊
@@pssound9749 Yeah believe that!! Once people catch on to this channel it will take off!! Soundman isn't producing much content of late so i am glad you're here to fill the gap!
A little tip - I'm using the same technique, but instead of plywood - I use PVC plastic. It's easy to cut, and it to bend. And it can be sanded easily. You still need to add putty to strongen the structure.
GOD THANK YOU! I have been saying that for YEARS! ITS THE DAMN! INSTALLLLL!!!!!!!! What's the point of even upgrading your speakers if you are not going to INSTALL THEM RIGHT! :-) The hardest thing is not money in this Hobby, its knowledge if you can do it right! Thank you PETER!
Just Wow, so much craftsmanship to rear fill which people hardly ever look at, very impressive! Peter, I see you use Micro Precision 5.8 in A-pillars a lot, is it a superior midrange to L3SE for 3way a-pillar application? Specs look quite similar...
my friend could you tell what when each speaker starts and when they ends? the hpf cut and the lpf cut in each speaker? you gonna help a lot you inspire every one of us that follow you.
WOW they are super cool and the install is spectacular! I can only DREAM of something like that. What DSP would you use with so many channels? Also, what amp would you run them with as they cant take much power? Thanks for the great video
For a system like this you need min 10ch (excluding the shakers in this system). They don’t take much power, but they don’t need to either! Once u run active with the necessary HPF in place, they can not even draw power.
Peter!! Another amazing, informative and inspirational pod build!! Your tips have consistently helped my build (what i think) is excellent sound in my Jeep Wrangler, which is not an easy accomplishment in a big square, noisy 4x4 vehicle!! I am now about to rebuild my front end Brax tweeters and mids for the third time, (6.5's are completed in the kicks thanks to you) with a solid "wooden puzzle build" using the air volume suggested by Brax. Question? Why in this build are you using a free air space instead of a sealed box like on the front end a-pillars that you have built on numerous other builds? Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise!!!
Len Silvester i only built sealed pods for the Audible Physics RG100s in the Octavia where we couldn’t place them in the dash like in this car and we wanted them to play low without any rattle. My Honda & the midbass on the dash was an experiment with the boxes and if you watch that video you’ll hear that the box was kinda pointless as that location doesn’t deliver anything under 120Hz, no matter whether what, so the driver could be just placed in a rigid dash surface too or actually a better 4-5” mid could also do the same job as my 7”.
WestSide Snooker sell half of your equipment and use the rest in a proper install running active! You’ll love that much more than speakers playing free-air! 😉🙃
@@pssound9749 Thank you Peter for the reply. I had to go back and watch some of your videos again (i do that often anyways). Yes, it was the Octavia build that I saw the sealed pods. I watched the a-pillar build again on the Mercedes E-Series and realized the RG100's are open air, which I mistakenly assumed where sealed. So, now I have another question. When a manufacture is recommending an enclosure to achieve certain performance, example: Brax Matrix ML3 "Sealed box with minimum 250ml/0.4L net volume" and other net volumes of 0.8L, 1.2L, for different responses, how and why does the installer decide to make this a free air build? Experience and your ear? The audio shop I deal with gives me two opinions, 1- do as manufacturer recommends, 2- make them free air, build solid/rattle free for "better" overall sound. Yeah!! Confuse me more, lol. Cheers, from snow covered Ontario, Canada
@WestSide Snooker I have the Brax Matrix 3 way, ML1, ML3 and ML6P, powered by the Helix DSP Six MK2. Waiting for the DSP Ultra to come available here in Canada, not sure what amp(s) I will add for the Brax yet.
I’ll be redoing my pillars with this method and some fiberglass molding. Amazing job Peter, great content as always. Was wondering what the black glue you use in a lot of your pillars is. Something like TabWeld?
Great work. Been stuck and basically ready to quit on my personal build, but watching your videos is renewing my thought on being able to do this. One question about your milkshake. You mention it's resin. Is that just the fiberglass resin mixed with an additive? Or is it a different resin? Great work, as always. Thank you for sharing.
No replies so I will share my opinion. I only use those foam cups to keep water off my drivers, like in a door install. Even then I cut off the bottom portion to allow for air flow. The water will drip around the driver. You don't want to completely enclose the driver because they are made to perform in an infinite baffle with lots of air around them.
@@pssound9749 yeah, I figured it wasn't as important in the rear. I've heard folks talk about using 3D printed devices with laser pointers to get the job done on the front stage. The things we do for sound! :-)
@@jsnichols1 A laser pointer might be useful to create symmetrical aiming, but the initial aiming is all trial and error. Rig up the speakers so they are symmetrical and try different angles.
Hey Peter, First off I must say that your videos are really inspiring and thanks for taking all the time to film edit and upload all the content. I am running a pair of L2SE's in the OEM windscreen positions of my B8 Audi RS4 and after tuning they sound great as a two way with some Mille Legends in the doors. BUT you have inspired me to build them into the a pillars, thanks....😁 Could you let me know where can I pickup those mounting rings as they would be great to help with the installation? BTW I have known Chris (TT) since we were young, I'm still too financially scared to go listen to his system!!!!!🤣🤣
Hi Sam, If you already have them in dash location, then forget to change that! If you want improvement, then rather bring it to us for a proper tuning session, which can truly make a huge difference! 🔊🔊 Also, if you know Chris so well and he already invited you to have a listen at his system, then you’d be fool not to check it out! 😳 Pop over to him to have a tea and a session in his TT!!!! 💪😎🔊🔊
@@pssound9749 I may just take you up on that, have the odd rattle here and there that could do with attention. Out of interest how booked up are you if I were to get it over to you guys?👍
Look on ebay and you will see people making rings of wood or plastic. If you have to have metal threads then those can be added. You can literally epoxy a stainless nut on the rear for good, strong threads.
That is probably a dome midrange. It can work, but it can not play as low, rather just above 5-600Hz and above. It’s way better if you have a cone midrange that can play down to 2-300Hz.
@Pssound Thanks for your reply, I have seen your video. In many you have used it from 290hz, 300to 3k you aviod Xover. Well, I have seen ESC 5000, AND even Brax speakers using dome type midrange. What do you feel about those
@@Somesh-Ji they have no place in a car environment as they can not be integrated to a midbass as well as a cone midrange. Check all the RTA videos here and on Patreon too to understand it better.
I know you keep teasing like you're not gana do a full review of all the existing literature and RU-vid videos on rear chamfering, but I personally cannot wait till you head-on address this topics with a full Peter from PS Sounds video. It's not the same unless you do it. 🖖😁👌
I found this video in which the guy has used aluminum enclosures in A pillar - at 14:45 minute ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YU-5WAHum_M.html (turn on the subtitles). How is this in comparison to mounting speaker directly on the pillars? & what direction do u point the speakers on the A pillars?
I saw in a setup with two tweeters were mounted below brake light on the center upper position of the rear glass inside a custom pod for the 3rd row. Does it matter for the 3rd row passengers listening experience?
It is almost like we are telepathicly linked, i am sanding my ass of in my garage. I wanted to ask if you could do a video about applying glasfiber filler because i had my cherry popped yesterday and yeah it wasn't pretty...And now 4 or 5 hours of sanding later it is starting to resemble a shape..😂🤣😂🤣. Thanks for all the knowledge and tips, now i can look forward to many more hours of sanding...jeeeej...
justkiddin1980 never wait for the fibrefiller to set completely! Search for “green stage” when you can already shape the filler with different techniques to make your life easier when you get to sending! 👌💪
@@pssound9749 I'm glad i found this channel, i've a couple of weeks vacation and i intend to spend them working on my car. I have a question, do you do this fulltime or do you have a different job and do this on the side?
justkiddin1980 i’ve been a live sound engineer for 13 years or so and moved caraudio from hobby to a career! You can not build cars like this as just a side job! This level needs super serious attention and dedication! 👌🔊🔊
@@pssound9749 Yeah and well deserved! Your work is awesome and the passion really shines through...maybe if i have the budget my next volkswagen is going to go your way...
@@pssound9749 I just found out that when you take out the sparewheel tub of a volkswagen passat B6...there is a square hole in the floor....interesting..🤔🤔🤔
iin not sure my sun sits in a car seat so no sits over there most of the time behind me but to me tweeters in the pillars are to close to your face on the drivers side even with the help of my dsp(360.3 )
