So gratifying to discover someone else who is as enthralled with Annie as much as I am!

My first time to tune in to "podcast" type narrative about a book, obviously enjoyed by the narrator. I think I would look forward to future reviews from this young man. FYI: I'm 82 and have enjoyed reading most of my life, especially "good books".

One of my perhaps never-to-be-fulfilled ambitions has long been to learn knots. In my youth I worked backstage in theaters, an environment probably closest to ship employment that I will ever come, and those guys that knew knots could do anything. It’s a skill much to be admired, though I’m a little sceptical of it as a literary prop. Glad to see you back & talking Proulx.

Learning knots is something I think I might like to try someday. It seems like a really neat skill to have. Thanks, David!

I loved the Partridge character particularly- But, absolutely NOBODY can write the way she can. 💛💜🌏💚❤️

I really loved this book when I read it some years back. So much of the life of that small community has stayed with me. Thanks for reminding me of it. It might be worth a read through again.

Excellent reviews, Micah. Annie Proulx's Barkskins has moved up considerably on my TBR. 🙂

I'm so glad you loved this! I read it sometime in the mid 90s and really loved it back then. Last year I bought a copy to re-read--need to get to that.

Thank you! It's one that I am certainly going to be adding to my library so I can revisit it again.

Sounds wonderful. Has firmed up on my TBR. I'm reading her short stories for June on the Range. Go well Micah.

Thank you, Nathan! Oh! I didn’t know she had short stories… I need to find a copy of those.

@Micah Cummins her most famous story was Brokeback Mountain in a collection called "Close Range - Wyoming Stories".

I can absolutely see why, Michael. 🙂 I loved it. I actually wish it was longer so I could have more time with the story.

@@MicahCummins I felt the same way. The movie was a bit disappointing but still worth seeing just for its stellar cast. Another one of her books i highly recommend is Close Range, a collection of short stories, one of which was the basis for the film Brokeback Moutain. It was another of her books i just couldn't put down.

It has been awhile since I read it, but I may have to revisit it. As it won the Pulitzer, I’m sure you won’t have a hard time finding a copy.

Thanks, Kelly! That is a good point, I probably should have mentioned that it won! :)

It has been over 20 years since I read this, but I remember enjoying it. I like what you said about evaluating characters at face value without preconceived notions. I don't know if I would have picked up on it, but it really makes sense. Just curious...what did the audiobook do with regard to the knot illustrations? I listened to it on audiobook and I don;t recall the knots..but it was long ago! Thanks for the thoughts!

Thank you for your comment! Well, the audiobook gives you the passages about the knots, so I didn't know there were any illustrations of them until I got the ebook, actually!
