I found that you just need to put it together and take it apart (ie. use it a few times) and you become self-trained in it's use. After a while you develop muscle memory and can assemble it and disassembled it, quickly. I would suggest that anyone using it for the first time, to practice it a few times at home before going camping with it. It could be a bit harder trying to put this together in low light situations and under poor weather conditions if you have not practiced using it in your down time. Like anything with a flame, you should always KNOW your equipment. I love mine and it did take a few times practicing with it to become comfortable using it.

Pot stand aside the stove looks very stable. Many stoves are too tall increasing the chance of an accidental bump knocking the pot off or tipping the whole kit over. Also the lower profile will make it easier to protect it from the wind.

😂 I uses it for sub burner for my cooking. For main burner i use trangia gas burner . Its freakin great for what it is. 👍 Entire stove fits into Trangia TR- 310 mess tin with wind guard. Thats why i love it.

One advantage of the G-Stove is that it has a low center of gravity, which makes it very hard to tip over. This means you are less likely to burn yourself or spill the food you are cooking. I do agree with your observations. I also woulf like to add that the stove has a unique design that makes it appealing to some people, such as people with limited space on their bags.

bought one over curiosity and found myself using it nearly very day as a supplemental home stove for smaller applications. It's ridiculously efficient with fuel due to it's low output, perfect for small moka pots (i love moka), syphon coffee makers and smaller pots and pans for the odd cup of hot beverages or boiling a small put with eggs. I love it for that. It do bring it outdoors but it's too wide to find a good spot for in most places. But i do pack a small lightweight table often enough... Oh well... it's low profile makes it perfect for use upon tables. If i wish to cook outdoors the windmaster or anything trangia is usually my go-to.

I paid $56.87 in November of last year. It’s kind of a neat form factor. I agree kind of fiddly to put together. Just kind of a fun piece.

This stove was actually never offered to NA, which is why you cant find it on the website, so those prices you were seeing were gougers. The actual list is 8250y or just under $60 at todays rate. As you said its primarily designed around the form factor and if one were to judge it based on this and its rather cheap price the awkwardness and low performance become more acceptable as opposed to mistakenly judging it as some $200 high end stove. I have no interest in this stove since it doesnt do anything particularly well but as a cheap day hike stove for someone or just something you toss in the glovebox as a means to make tea in the Park I can see the appeal.

I’m sold on my firebox g2 ti, especially since I got the gas burner to go with it. I’m pretty much done hunting for the perfect stove. Gas for when I just want a quick meal, wood for when I can take the time or am grilling. I’ve used gas, wood, charcoal bricks, charcoal lumps, but not yet tried pellets. All work just fine.

For the people that like to fiddle with gadgets like this. Personally? I would buy it just to play with it. It's an interesting design and with it's low output it might be decent for cooking on the trail. Thanks once again for making these wonderful videos.

I hadn't heard of this stove before so thanks for reviewing. At 13 ounces I wouldn't carry it backpacking. I like the form of it but not it's lack of power and fuel that might be harder to find along the trail.

I would possibly pack that like a puncture repair kit. You have to also use the specialist pot that has a fancy skirt thing that saves the flame from wasting heat up the sides. I am still waiting for the manufacturer of pots and pans to use the kelly kettle principle and make a shorter stouter kettle using the soto clever flame

I also have this stove. I think I bought it for about $78 or so? Honestly can’t remember because it took so long to come in from Amazon, I ended up filing a claim and got refunded. Then one day the stove just showed up. So… actually got it for $0 lol. I do like the stove and use it semi frequently. I do agree that it is kind of fiddly and doesn’t do great on uneven surfaces. And I feel it’s best for just boiling water for the most part and not much else. I feel it’s hard to regulate and actually cook with. But I’m glad I bought it and I would still like it, even if I didn’t get refunded for it in the end. It is a cool and very unique stove for the collection. I agree I likely would not buy another one again either.

It cost mor than a normal stove , however the extra cost for their gas and needing a wind protector makes this stove worth it.

I've never had an issue with the pot stand. No need for a clasp that would hinder setup and breakdown. Down on power...? Um yeah, it does just fine for my needs. Most people don't sit there with a stop watch waiting for their water to boil. If anyone wants more power, there is a Chinese knockoff of this stove that sells for half the price and will win the water boil race. Just be careful because Soto's original model had more power but they replaced it with a lower power model because there was an issue with heat being trapped in that deflector causing issues with the burner. With the current stove, the only area I've encountered limitations is with pot diameter, but that's not surprising considering the design and purpose of the stove. Here in Japan, the price was never anywhere near the $200 you mention. It's a handy little stove but I would never pay that price for it.

Have you tried the Soto ST-310 or 330? I love my Soto Windmaster, but a remote canister stove is better at certain times. We use Butane at home for cooking at the table, but I'm not sure I want to carry another canister type in my car-camp kit. The shortage of iso-butane seems to be passed for now.

Hilarious thing is the 1:1 clone is more performing (not a knock-off, a 1:1 clone) and get a rack and wind shield, ditch the wire crap. They are not making it anymore because their agreement with the manuf is done and they are churning clones for $20

Bought my G Stove at Amazon Japan 2 years ago for around USD$65. Overall I am very happy with this unit. Pro: - Very compact stove using butane, which is a lot more ubiquitous and cheaper than isobutane - Built in windshield capability - Very stable - when placing cooking pot on it you don’t get that shaky feel like other stoves Con: - Low heat output means it’s more suitable for 1-2 people usage - Takes a while to master the assembly/disassembly of the stove. Trust me - this is NOT a stove for beginners. - It takes quite a while for the unit to cool down after usage, which means you cannot quickly disassemble it after usage like other stoves. I usually have to wait for at least 15 minutes before I can disassemble it without wearing gloves. - No micro regulator.

I laughed so hard. I have been around camp for decades and have seen these new fangled things come out to the bush with the proud owner who misses out on the whole outdoor activities because the thing is so high maintenance and runs out of fuel. Its like bringing stiletto high heeled shoes to the everest base camp

I have the G ST-320 bc of the Soto name. DON'T buy its replica cheaper knockoff, not good quality and LEAKS gas at the canister fitting. Very dangerous! Check youtuber who shows side by side comparison of the ST-320 against the knockoff and you will see why. Spend the $ for the original. Ok....back to why I got the ST-320. I own Soto's other stoves, and love them. Wanted a picnic stove for outings. This is too heavy in my mind for backpacking. Ernie didnt show weights, but my Soto windmaster weighs a fraction of the ST-320. I like that the butane gas canisters are a cheap alternative to iso canisters. The ST-320 stove is solid, not tippy, because of its lowered position vs a canister. You only have to lose a meal once with a canister tower and you know what i mean. That sucks! PRO: japanese design, quality; neat form factor; stable position; ; cheaper fuel; 2hrs use out of that Butane canister; design can handle heavier loads/pots; simmer excellent; comes with effective, reliable Piezo igniter. CONS- install is fiddly, but you catch on; its HEAVY, too much for hiking/backpacking- i would buy something lighter weight if you hiking; dont like the "floating" top grate not snapping in position and dont like the flame burning directly onto the frame. You can see the flames burning into the grate in Ernie's video. Price- if you want this as youre one & done....then its bc you rarely hike, and like to cook-outs at the beach. This is a nice small feature-rich stove but not my choice for hikig.
