💊 1: Kidney disease requires a different diet than preventing kidney problems. 💊 2: Different stages of kidney disease demand specific dietary considerations. 💊 3: Reduce protein intake, aiming for about 45 grams per day in later stages. 💊 4: High-quality protein sources like eggs, fish, and grass-fed beef are preferred. 💊 5: Limit sodium intake to around 2,300 milligrams per day. 💊 6: Foods high in potassium, such as beet greens, spinach, and avocados, should be avoided. 💊 7: Choose low-potassium vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, radishes, etc. 💊 8: Watch phosphorus intake by avoiding phosphoric acid in sodas and reducing meat consumption. 💊 9: Focus on low-phosphorus foods like berries, poultry, certain seafood, and eggs. 💊 10: Balance potassium intake and always monitor key nutrients with your doctor. 💊 11: Disagree with recommendations to include grains in an end-stage kidney disease diet. 💊 12: Supplement with B vitamins, natural vitamin C, vitamin D3, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Probably about 30 grams a day for a 150 lb woman??? That's how much I allow myself. Check with your own Dr. to be sure though what's right for you. I do notice I get more hungry with less protein tho.
I have a friend who has been diagnosed with stage four kidney disease and the doctor told her there was nothing she could do for I told her bull crap, so I’m sending this to her now!
What an awful thing for a dr to say! My dad is stage4 ckd and while the Dr's are very clear that ckd cannot be improved (we are keeping it stable) they have certainly never said there is nothing they can do! Correct medication + diet + lifestyle + monitoring is ofcourse going to help. I hope she is doing OK 🙏
Husband has had 4 acute kidney crisis due to undiagnosed autoimmune disease. Each crisis catapulted kidneys to the next state. This past month it was clearly stage 4. The nephrologist, a very good dr, sent us home with diagnosis, but no education on what to do next. "Lower bp. Lower salt. Don't overdue protein." Feeling so sad and overwhelmed. Reversed trajectory by adjusting thyroid medication and totally removing phosphate additives from diet. This video is the first I could find anywhere which actually explains how to calculate protein to reduce the overload on the kidneys. This information is the first practical information making an adjustment for AKD. Thank you.
I am doing a 180 on my old lifestyle and eating and dropped 20 lbs in 4 weeks , cut out carbs and I am eating veggies and berries and walking a bit more , I have more energy and my day and sleeping better, drinking lemon water most of the time and limit my portions of salmon, cod or white chicken , also egg whites , I am loving steamed and sautaeded onions and red bell peppers, It was a great life change for me and very hard to do as i am Italian decent and love all that goes with that, but loving the results.
I just want to say thank you for everything that you do! You put your whole heart into your audience! And you take your time in every video...God has truly blessed me with you...thank you Again!!!!
@@peterbh2804 Hello. Diagnosed EGPA w/ necrotizing glomerulonephritis back in March 2016.Long story short autoimmune.Treated w/Rituximab. Had flare up in 2020 in which kidneys were fine but Heart was next eosinophil target. Treated again. Currently doing well. Thanks for asking.🙂
@@charlesboyer5712 Can you be more specific when you say it can done ? Is it just via diet + BP med + supplemental meds for anaemia etc ? Were you diagnosed to have CKD when it was initially detected ? Asking cause Acute Injuries heal whereas CKD does not.
I was experiencing extreme muscle fatigue, cramping and weakness. Literally came out of left field. Dr thought it was electrolytes but blood work came back as stage 1 kidney disease. I had already made extreme lifestyle changes, especially to my diet, only whole foods and mostly veggies. Followed up 6 weeks later with another round of blood work and it came back as Stage 3a kidney disease!!! I'm like WTHeck? No one in my family has ever been diagnosed with kidney disease. I'm absolutely floored. Dear Lord, have mercy ✝️💜🛐 Now I'm just devouring every bit of information I can get my hands on...and waiting to hear from the nephrologist.
Good morning Dr Berg and your team.Such a wonderful topic ! Very clear, and informative and very useful information.Thank you and thank you so much dr Berg.Have a nice weekend ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍🌹
I weigh 177 lbs 65 yrs old I eat 4oz of Smoked Wild Caught Salmon and 3 Pasture Raised Organic Eggs 6 days a week along with some nuts and seeds I usually FAST on Sunday.
I have stage 3 kidney failure due to a disease called MGURS. I wish there was a way you could give me a meal plan.. most of the Drs I deal with have no clue on proper diet . Great video's!
Everyday you teach us something new and good for us my sister and parents are starting to watch your channel too thanks a lot dr wish you the very best🌹🌸
@@realrosesforever3847 it took me about 3 months, drink at least 64oz of water eveyday to keep them hydrated, just cut salt and sugar off, and eat as much as healthy as you can..
Plant protein is the best for the kidney. I’m doing this now. Im on dialysis. I’m seeing great benefits. Eat potassium, phosphate & sodium in moderation. Eat more fruits melons & berries. Make a food diary. I stay within 40 grams of protein a day but I’m small so adjust according to your weight like he said. 20-30 ounces of water or fruit juice until urine output increases then increase drinking accordingly. Eat more raw. Make sure you pooping a lot. Eat lots of fiber. Sweat as much as you can. Free game! Happy healing.
@@bananabob2185 AMEN! And the fruit and veggies,,,, sugar and oxalates. Crazy. This person needs to dump the plant based and get some keto/carni advice to save their life.
Started this no sugar diet four days ago and it was extremely easy for me to switch over. It started when I noticed bumps on my scalp not acne but bigger ones and a YT short doc said maybe dirty hair and hat or skin cancer and that’s my one and only majorist fear in life I’m pretty brave. But from that I did more research which led me to your videos and i subscribed and am taking instruction without hiccup. Still don’t know if it’s cancer I should see a doc but damn no sugar at all should cure everything it seems like. 😂
Yes. No sugar surely helps hugely. But also no bad carbs, such as grains, rice, potatoes, etc. Some of Dr Berg’s videos /articles on scalp, on cancer, on skin, etc. may help.

Doctor, please, are there nutritional supplements or some recipes that help to restore the kidney gradually..because I have read about Astragalus that it helps to regenerate the function of the kidneys I'm in dialyse 😢😢😢 I hope you will answer me please
Hi, i am an Iga nephropathy patient and after a lot of reading I was able to identify my cause due to celiac disease could you validate this information? I can give you the patterns!
Hello Dr Berg my dad found a kidneys cancer, i was trying to understand if he can get supplements? Can you please talk about kidney cancer? And if the patient can take supplements? And what diet is good for kidneys cancer since they are filtering all supplements and everything?
Hi I was suffering from chronic constipation almost 2 years and I feel that it's more than just that I went to doctors and they're not really willing to give me any help I think it's due to where I live in Kentucky resource during the few years and I realize that I've got more help off your shows and I have anywhere else more information can you please reach back out to me and tell me some of the things I could do? Thank you so much for the work you're doing!❤
And possibly refer me to do some body in my area or online that could possibly help me to find out if you have cancer or you know something else going on because I looked and I asked for help and I've not been able to get any and this is almost immobilizing. It's cost me my job almost my marriage it's got to where I can't even do common household chores the pain is so bad to please reach out to me and reply cuz I've had so many people and I never get a response and I would really appreciate it like so much thank you for real from the bottom of my heart
Doc, could you please shed some information on eGFR number. I am 32 and it went to 84 from 97 since I started keto. My goal is just to reverse insulin resistance . Please and thank you
Sharing Dr Berg notes! The top causes of kidney problems are diabetes, insulin resistance, and high-sugar, high-carb diets. Consuming a low-carb diet, like the Healthy Keto® diet, and doing intermittent fasting are two of the best things you can do to help prevent kidney disease. But, if you have stage 3A through stage 5 kidney disease, you may want to consider making some adjustments to your keto plan. If you have a kidney problem, it’s important to work with your doctor to make sure certain nutrients aren’t out of range. These nutrients include potassium, sodium, and phosphorus. Protein levels can also become too high if someone has a kidney problem. The best diet tips for kidney disease: • Consume lower amounts of high-quality protein (pasture-raised organic eggs, wild-caught fish, seafood, and grass-fed, grass-finished beef) • Consume lower amounts of sodium (2,300 mg of sodium per day) • Avoid processed foods and junk foods • Avoid high-potassium foods and consume low-potassium foods • Avoid soda • Avoid foods high in phosphorus • Take the natural form of certain vitamins (B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin D3) • Get plenty of omega-3 fatty acids (take cod liver oil) Thank you Dr Berg!! 😺👍
Hi Dr. Berg, those natural vitamins you mentioned at the end, those are the supplements can be taken by the patient? My mum has kidney issues. Thank you!
What are your recommendations for people who can’t get the finest, grass fed, grass finished beef, wild caught salmon and cod, pastured, organic eggs. What do they do doc, throw up their hands and die?
Dr Berg.. Thank u for your detailed.. Food items information... Over so many years.. Have discarded.. Dozens of food items... all due to your guidance and coaching... Correct information on veggies.. Proteins.. Grains.. Dairy... Gosh we've been poisoning ourselves... Nevertheless... Ur efforts are priceless and life saving data
Yes kidneys can fully recover. My mum was proof of that. Had to go for dialysis for about a year as both kidneys had completely stopped working. Then however when another issue in the body was resolved both kidneys within a matter of a few days started working again and kidney function normalized and she never had issues again with her kidneys for the next 30 years (from around 50 to 80 years of age)
Dr Berg please talk about Keto & gastroparesis. Every time I start a Keto diet I end up with what appears to be early stage gastroparesis within 2-3 weeks. I feel full after one normal sized meal & don’t lose weight. Initially I put it down to mega ketosis until I realised it felt unnatural- plus bloating & zero weight lose. I kept telling people- it feels like I’m not digesting. Research pointed me to gastroparesis.
Hi Dr. I enjoy every video you post. This is about my mother 65 who is suffering with renal failure. Her current egfr is 10 and she has been taking diabetes medicine for over 25 years. Can you suggest me what type of food she should avoid and take. She is not on a dialysis but the doctor wants her to avoid salt. She has become very weak now , what should I do?
I have NOT been diagnosed with kidney problems, BUT o want to PREVENT them… (I’m healthy)… any advice as to what products to consume?… I eat lots of eggs , avocados and spinach!
If you haven’t already, could you give us some information about sucrose glucose and fructose. Fructose always seems to be the bad guy and I am not sure why thanks. Is sugar less damaging as long as it is not in high fructose corn syrup?
What cookbook or social media influencer would you recommend to follow for stage 2 CKD,renal cysts C: 242; LDL:136; Glucose 117; A1c: 5.7; Lp(a):87; APOB:134; CT-Scan Heart LAD 271, Lcx 70, RCA 32 TOTAL: 373 90%; CRP:0.6
2017 kidney disease renal tubular acidosis.i notice when i eat too much pork rice bread and eat fastfood im feeling worst and admitted at the hostpital.fasting eat healthy food more vegetable fruits exercise i feel better..
I am continually amazed that none of you mention wild game. We talk about grass fed beef, but we don’t talk about the health benefits of going out in pursuing an attorney in your own food.
Always this is the problem. 😂😂😂 rather than following what he is saying, now he is about to get educated on what should have been there and not ! Classic 🤣😂😂 😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭🥺
Perhaps that's because so few people have the ability to hunt wild game. Or because he thinks his audience is smart enough to figure out, all on their own, that wild game is a good source of protein if they have that option.
Hi doctor thank you for your information but i suffer from frequent urination, and even at night I go to the toilet 4 times. Is ovarian cyst the cause?
Dr. Berg I pray that you can give me some advice. My legs swelling is very painful. My EGFR (MDRD) value is 56. Its written in red on my bloodwork. My doctor's reply was that my bloodwork was stable... Is my EGFR (MDRD) value 56 my kidneys or is it my liver? And would that be causing my legs to swell? Is there a way to increase my EGFR value? Thank you for any advice you could give me.
eGFR is for kidney. Legs swelling should be water retention. Means too much sodium (salt). Not sure about other things, but definitely need to remove sugar/refined carb, processed food/meat/oil, soft drinks.
I had leg swelling a couple of years ago at age 74 (with T2 diabetes, fatty liver, high BP and cholesterol, gout), never smoked, drank alcohol rarely. One night I couldn’t breathe properly lying down and called the ambulance. Turned out I had heart failure and needed a single bypass and 2 stents. Was put on furosemide (diuretic) and the dose has been lowered in recent months at my request. Learned last year I have chronic kidney disease so am trying to improve it, but dietary and supplement advice is sometimes contradictory with all my different conditions and meds. My next step is to consult a nutritional advisor who is on the same wavelength as Dr Berg. Good luck to you. 🙏
Dr. Wonderful work on getting to this point. However kindly focus research on getting amino acids into the system as compared to the word, 'protien' .. protein in the body has to be decomposed back into human building blocks.. aka amino acids, then recreated into human protein from these sources.. have you found any good amino acids sources that are good.
In 2022 i started experiencing severe body inflammation, reacting to foods, pains at kidney area but labs and scans couldn't find the cause, after research i started adopting low carb, Protein diet which seems to improvemy symptoms... Current labs show WBC, HAEMOGLOBIN are constantly low, low magnessiym, Hba1C 5.4%, Bp 99/50 and EGFR constantly dropiping from >100 now 86. 2024 But still Doctors can't figure out what's wrong with me... Sleep issues, Weight and muscle loss, reacting to food etc Any suggestions? Could it be CKD?
My dad and I stopped drinking black tea and our kidney pain stopped. Coffee was fine but when we off and on had tea the pain was according to the tea consumption. Try that for a couple days and see how it goes.
Dr Berg I haven’t smoked weed or ate any sugars in the past 6 days and I’m really going through it this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done I haven’t quit but I’m becoming very irritable and having suicidal thoughts and I feel like I can’t go on. Do you have any advice for me on how to make these coming weeks smoother? I would really appreciate it.
So I had an iv antibiotic 2 months ago. I feel like my kidney took a toll. I have frequent urination, shortness of breath when I try to sleep and my urine is a bit foamy and cloudy in the morning.I’m 143 lb and my cheek are stating swell from water retention. Thanks you for this information. I eat banana, cheese, milk and red meats everyday. I’m gonna have to change it.
