Hi thank you for watching our video and be sure to check out our work at wscorp.us where there are pictures of the final product after we replaced this bad tile job done by another contractor. Even the City Building Officials required complete replacement
A little background:
The home owners received multiple bids and checked on 3 references on each bid along with checking status with the State of Minnesota Dept. of Labor and Industry. The contractor they hired had good references, insurance, and proper registration with the State of MN.
Owners were an elderly couple who had limited mobility. Each night they contractor would fill the bathroom with tools, saws, boxes, etc and they could not see his work as it progressed. It wasn't until he was finished that they could see the results.
The contractor was very messy and was even cutting tiles inside with a dry blade on a hand held grinder causing significant dust through the whole home. The dust also created a health hazard for the elderly couple.
City inspected and failed the project for numerous code violations. City required full replacement.
The owners hired our team to remove and replace. Schluter waterproofing products were used to prep the space and we install new tiles. They were very happy with the results. Check out our website for before and after photos wscorp.us

Unfortunately the owners were elderly and had mobility issues. They said the contractor would fill the bathroom with his tools and boxes each night when he left and were unable to see his progress until he was complete. If they could have seen his work progress they would have stopped him early on.

I agree, Matt. Seems like a lot of failed justification by W&S corp. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Contractor filled the room with his tools…they couldn’t see till it was finished. 😂😂😂😂 I’ve seen commercial work that was worse than that! 😂😂😂. Ever been in a lowes or Home Depot bathroom? I could pick it apart all day long as well, but at the end of the day, the homeowner said nothing til the job was finished thereby they are required to pay in full or get a lien placed on their property!

I've been tiling for years and am fairly good at it. Always use tile edge unless the customer doesn't want it, done plenty of indented soap dishes, both inserts and custom built. I still almost always have 'lippage' though. I will take rows of tiles off the wall, re-buttering , try to pound the high spot a bit, usually from build up of schluter membrane in the corners.. but eventually after spending half hour on one small lip i just continue on.
@winstonsteelscorp5960
@winstonsteelscorp5960 7 месяцев назад
The tiles themselves are sometimes cupped. One way to tell how much the tile is cupped is to put the two tiles face to face and you can see how much they are cupped. Some are so cupped that it is impossible to install without lippage if there is an offset. Levelers like the Spin Doctors are a must in larger tiles. You might want to check out www.youtube.com/@SalDiBlasi he has many great videos on tile installation tips, tricks, and proper installation methods.

Not necessarily. We had a bad experience with one contractor (we didn't do our due diligence, our bad). So we hired an outfit that came highly recommended. They just finished our shower stall and it looks like shit. Lippage, misaligned tiles, uneven grout lines, thinnest sticking up through the grout lines at various places. They "fixed" some of it by grinding the grout out but then they put in the wrong color grout. Just unfrocking believable.

So many say that the homeowner went with the lowest bid. I disagree with that summation. It may be true, but in my experience even pricier contractors also do poor work, and most contractors routinely hide the shortcuts and improper methods used. Usually, it is after a couple years (maybe even months!) that we may learn what lurks to create big problems later. I can give many examples. A small one: you hire to have a new linoleum floor done in a kitchen. There may be problems with the old floor such as pipe holes from old radiator pipes. Rather than make the effort to correctly fill those holes, they just cover over them with thin linoleum. Long later you move a piece of furniture and it pierces right thru the linoleum, looking right into the crawlspace, and causes an even more difficult problem to fix. This is a really minor example but is typical of what most contractors do. I'm sorry, seen so much of this kind of thing that I do not trust any contractors. At the very least, the homeowner has to not only be present during all the work and watch like a hawk (which contractors hate), but must actually know more about the correct way to do construction than most contractors know!

I agree. Sometimes it's the small independent fellow out there hustling for work who is the true tradesman in the remodeling game. It seems those who take real pride in their work has become a dying breed nowadays. They are not extinct however. You just have to know how to spot one. Experience is far superior than the school of RU-vid that's for sure. Good ceramic tile work is an art, not a skill.

@@jlm3303 The example was not to boast about linoleum as opposed to marble. I always make a point to show the people the extreme warpage of large porcelain tiles. Plus it makes no sense to make the body of the tile out of porcelain and the part that matters out of a very brittle glaze over a screenprint. This would make the part you don't see tough and the part you walk on fragile. Real porcelain is the same on the top all the way through. Can run it through a profile wheel and make your own bullnose without having to paint the edge.
