THIS IS WHY YOU HATE YOUR BODY... and they want you to.

Curvy, skinny, voluptuous, athletic - it doesn't matter WHAT your body looks like - they don't want you to feel confident. The problem isn't you. Your body is not flawed - your body is beautiful whether it fits the 'current beauty standard' or not. You see, the beauty standard HAS to be unattainable. And it has to keep changing. To keep you chasing a goal that you can never achieve. Why? Because that's how these industries (makeup, skincare, diet, fitness) make their money. They keep women feeling insecure, because when you feel insecure you want to change yourself. So you purchase their products. And they make money. You see? The problem is not you. Your body is not the problem. You are not flawed. They just want you to FEEL that way, so they can market to you. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! And I hope you know that. x

I would really like you to do a video about ageing, it seems that as women we are not allowed to show signs of age and become "less worthy" when we do. The anti-age culture is the worst and I honestly am horrified at the thought of being old and "unattractive" because that is what society pushes us to believe. Sofia Vergara was bashed recently for looking her age. Would love if you did a video about this topic!

for me as a black woman, my insecurities have stemmed from childhood. throughout my childhood, i was bullied for my features and for being “fat”. i would cry to my mum and myself to sleep because people were making me feel bad about my weight and how i looked. now that i am 20 going on 21, i am now learning to love myself and not to compare myself to other women, especially on social media. now i will keep reminding myself that social media isn’t real and that whenever i see a pretty woman, i will also keep reminding myself that another woman’s beauty isn’t the absence of my own. i have been watching your videos for a while now and i must say that they make me happy about myself. thank you so much, stephanie. you’re a true inspiration 🤍

Ugh. So many mothers are brainwashed by the standards, it's insane. Yesterday i called my parents and the only time my mom took the phone she said "did you lose weight? your thighs got bigger, do some sports". For me, it's acne. Everyone I see has perfect skin, heck, even my husband who NEVER washes his face has perfect skin. Even though masks aren't mandatory here anymore, I still wear one because I'm ashamed of how it looks. Really messes with your self esteem, I wish I saw more people with acne/not a full face of makeup so I could feel better about myself lol.
@ianimal36
@ianimal36 2 года назад
Acne is dietary and hormonal, one you can control, the other, not so much. Maybe look into the top allergens (dairy, grains, nuts, eggs, soy, etc.) and consider an elimination period to identify any allergies that could be causing skin inflammation in the form of acne. Topical treatments only treat the symptoms and some don't even do that. Try not compare yourself to men, their skin is different than ours. Remember, there is always, ALWAYS someone worse off than you are. I once had a retired dermatologist man interrupt my breakfast at a diner on a busy Sunday morning because he just had to cross the restaurant to tell me I was "too pretty to have such bad acne", so I understand. I'm horribly allergic to wheat and I didn't know it for the longest.

@@maddydohnt3736 feel you, same here. i still get breakouts when im approaching my period bc some things rly are out of control but these are the things that almost eradicated my hormonal acne, maybe it will be helpful for you too: i did an intolerance test, here in australia the company is called ImuPro, not sure about the rest of the world. They test type 3 alergies, basically food alergies with delayed onset of symptoms (bloating, constipation, diarrhea, acne, fatigue) and give you the list of foods you react to. then there's a 5 week elimination phase to see how your body reacts without those allergens. my acne got 60% better during that phase (also, during those five weeks i lost 4 kg, i was stunned. it was mostly thanks to cutting out gluten). I still had some acne bc yeah, mine is hormonal, and i came across evening primrose oil, which is supposed to balance hormones. thought I'd give it a shot. it took about 2 months of religious pill taking but omg such a difference! there were 200 pills in the package and i didn't buy another and my acne came back a few weeks later. I've been taking the oil diligently ever since. Hope this helps.

I was born in 1988, class of 2006. Seeing those magazine covers you put up at the beginning sent a shock down my spine. I felt like the miserable, insecure, depressed 13 yr old girl all over again. I am built thick and naturally muscular, even more so in my teens of course, but I was fat back them because I had a butt/thick thighs/34DD. I tried to work out and not eat like a lot of my friends, but just ended up getting more muscylar from working out, which made me weigh more instead of less. No matter what I did, even at 5'2" I couldn't get down to 100 lbs like my friends, I was always more like 110-120. I wish I would have had a mother who helped me thru that, instead, SHE ENCOURAGED IT BY WEIGHING ME WEEKLY AND REWARDING ME WITH NEW CLOTHES WHEN I WENT DOWN A SIZE. I am now a mother to a 3 yr old, and she will most likely be built like me...I will light this world on fire before I allow anyone to tear down how she feels about herself or personally add to insecurities. I wish our parents thought twice about the things they told us when we were kids.

I developed anorexia when I was 11. It was severe, and I needed to be hospitalized. Recently, I’ve been looking back at some of the media I was consuming at the time that I got sick - 1997 - and I’ve realized how incredibly underweight all the actresses playing the characters I idolized were. It was a big shock; I had not remembered them being particularly thin. There were many reasons for my eating disorder - years of fat-shaming from my mother, explicit diet advice in the media, absurd diet-advice books in my parents’ bookshelf, long-standing untreated depression, and, most of all, social rejection by my peers - but I didn’t realize how much my favourite show reinforced my perception that my quickly-shrinking frame was normal (until I abruptly realized it wasn’t, and ended up begging my mom to take me to the hospital). I have a much healthier relationship with my body now, but it took a long time to get here, and almost dying from anorexia was a pretty traumatic experience. I’m very thankful that I’m not in that mental place anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that. When I was a young teenager suffering with acne I took a selfie with an actual camera and when my grandmother saw it she said that picture deserved to go to "the ugliest child alive" competition. She loves me I know that but people don't know how much words can hurt and how long we remember them for! Even though I don't have acne anymore I still won't leave my house without make up. I was also told I didn't look good with long hair so I've always cut it short. Ever since I became an adult and started growing my hair long I get so many compliments on it from strangers.

I'm sorry you went through that it honestly is a horrible feeling that makes you question yourself all the time. I had this happen to me at a party. I was walking outside with a girl I had just met. As we were walking to a group of people one of the guys says "you're so pretty!" The girl I was with said "who? Cause there's two of us" and he said "you of course, who else?!?". This guy was a total stranger but this interaction sticks with me cause it was so blatant and felt awfully mean spirited.

My mom is constantly saying how ugly and fat she is (she’s not, she’s beautiful and healthy, not that being bigger size isn’t beautiful too either) but it hurts bc we weight the same and our bodies are similar and it feels like she’s shaming my body as well when she shames hers

This was so relatable to me. I've always been skinny, but that didn't bother me as a small child. The problem started when I was 12 and a cousin showed my photo to her classmate. He said: She is so pretty, but look at those skinny legs! That marked me for life. To make matters worse, when I was in my mid twenties, a friend told me that a friend of her was kind of interested in me but that he said: If only she wasn't so skinny, she would be a total babe... obviously I didn't want to meet him. I am 39 now, still skinny, but slowly accepting me for who I am

Wow me too, growing up I was constantly told by everyone I was "too skinny" and became aware of it as young as 5 years old and hated my body. As a child I would eat until I was painfully full to the point I felt I was about to burst trying to gain weight. I am overweight now but part of me even at age 39 is terrified to lose weight in case I become "too skinny" once again.

I’m so sorry. I’ve had the opposite problem. I was told how I was too plump or big and needed to lost weight. My weight always fluctuated. I always remembered it was the skinny women and girls who got all the attention, the skinny girls with big chests… even big butts when I was young was considered being fat… I got teased for my butt being too big on multiple occasions!!! And now it’s the “in” thing?! But when I was young, it wasn’t!! I kinda wish my 18-30 year old self could have been in this time! Because my body in the 90s or 2000’s was considered fat and my big butt was not desired. I went through my life really hating my body and wearing clothes that weren’t flattering or baggy because I was hiding!! I was either subtly or blatantly put down so I never felt like I was pretty and I always felt overlooked and unwanted. But in Hindsight, I see these older photos of myself, and I’m realizing how beautiful I really was! Sure there were times I let myself go or gained more weight than I ideally wanted! But overall I wished I knew how pretty I really was and I wished I felt comfortable and confident to be that woman. So much of my life was wasted on me being self conscious for no reason!! And that’s so sad to go through life like this especially when in your prime years! But it’s jerks like the ones we encountered who put that crap in our heads! And I am upset that it wasn’t until my late thirties and forties realizing this!! Ladies realize your beautiful NOW!! As for a type? I’ve realized we won’t be everyone’s cup of tea! And that’s ok. There’s women who I thought were the most gorgeous women and I would point it out to others, some people didn’t agree? So beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I was shocked at how confusing the messages in some of the magazines were. One magazine will be preaching about how losing weight will make men looove you and the other was calling you too skinny. My own mom has body shamed me at my highest and lowest weight. It seems like no matter what we do there will always be some criticism and we won’t ever be good enough. Finding peace with your own body and self is the best way to fight the standards thrown onto us.

I've always been the curvy girl and I have been fat and body shamed daily for years ever since I was ten years old (I am in my twenties now), by my mom, friends, love interests, etc. It is so exhausting and depressing to not even enjoy food, to live comparing yourself to girls who are thinner and who you think are prettier and happier than you, and to always be locked in a battle with how you look and feel about yourself every single day, and you just said it all so perfectly in the first few minutes of the video. That is exactly how I feel. Thank you for speaking up on this. It's been so much harder for me in the past month to the point where I cried on my birthday because I just felt so ugly and ashamed of how I looked like, and I came close to not eating at all because of how insecure I am and how much people always tell me to eat less and to lose weight and to change what I look like. I only wish that the people showering all these insecurities on us (mothers) would watch this video and understand, so that maybe in the future less and less women will feel awful for looking how they normally look. Anyway, I digress. Thank you, Stephanie, for existing, for always keeping it real, and for giving us a safe space to be who we are

For me, I never looked at a doll or show and thought “I wish I looked like her.” My dad would tell me I was fat and needed to suck in at least twice a week so my body image issues started there. Some days his words still echo in my mind decades later. Words stay with you like scars

Same here, to me dolls were inanimate objects to be fashionable. I loved the colors and fabrics they had for clothes. Honestly the problem is people especially a lot of times grown adults that have things to say about KIDS. That was for me at least.

Growing up ads, movies and dolls never affected me because my mum doesn't look like them and told me other women don't either and i loved it as a child. My body sham came from my ex's, class mates, ex mother in law and even worse my aunt in my teens to adulthood. "To hairy, you have fake boobs!(in year 7), you need to be skinny more, I noticed you are on the heavy side," etc. Your videos are helping stop these thoughts and reinforcing what I have grown up believing thank you... and when my daughter feel self conscious I get her to watch your videos with me.

I started feeling insecure about my body when I started puberty. When I was a child I loved myself alot and never saw anything wrong with me or others.

In my case, family members are more toxic than social media. Because even if you try to stay out of it, relatives are the one who constantly reminds you of your body

It saddens me to learn some of these girls confidence was broken down by their own mothers. In my opinion your mom should be your biggest cheerleader and mine has definitely shown that much to me, she was very supportive through my weight lost journey and after losing 70lbs and developing body dysmorphia her everyday compliments of how beautiful I look are always uplifting.💞

my mom and granny used to tell me to quit desserts because I was "chubby"...at age 5. This went on my whole life to the point I BEGGED for an ed mi whole life, in addition my mom send me to see nutricionists beginning age 12 where if I didnt lose 500g a week, I was disappointing everyone and making her lose money. I'm so happy for everybody that didn't have to go thorough what I did.

Hi Steph! I've been wanting to talk about this for a long time now, HYPERPIGMENTATION IS REAL!! Especially for people of colour. I've seen the most confident people around me getting conscious about it, when it's COMPLETELY hormonal and has nothing to do with how one takes care of themselves. Especially the society I'm currently a part of is very colourist and this makes it worse. Can you please maybe do like one of those videos and do your part in normalising it? So that atleast I can show it to people around me and point it out? I personally feel there's a lot out there about bodypositivity and how all shapes are equally beautiful, this is smth very less talked about. Also my fellow viewers y'all can also copy paste this comment on her multiple vids so we can make it reach her. Sending love 💕

you are the only influencer that can make me feel a little better about myself with your videos. my whole life i’ve been insecure about myself, considering a nose job and lip filler. until your videos, my ENTIRE life i have been considering these things since i was “ugly”. you made me realize i’m okay the way i am. thank you

Stephanie, thank you so much for making these videos. They have helped me immensely and I’m eternally grateful 💙 And you’re absolutely correct. They do want us to feel bad about ourselves because then they can sell us their products. It’s so messed up 🥺 it’s hard not to fall prey to it but these videos are vital!

I've lost about 80 lbs and have been dealing with body dysmorphia and an immense amount of pressure to keep pushing myself to have the "ideal" body. Your videos have helped me in such a major way. You are a valuable and important voice in a culture that profits off of false promises and insecurity.

I have some suggestions for your monstera plant. From here it looks to be over watered. This type of plant needs to come close to drying out between waterings. You may want to move it closer to a window while still getting indirect light so that it can dry out faster. Happy plant mothering♡
