It makes sense because when you walk outside, nobody looks like an influencer. Everybody has realistic bodies. I feel like if you lock yourself in a room scrolling for hours observing all of the perfect bodies your perception of how bodies should look like will change

Exactly, and also she's pretty, and skinny. A lot of the time it's overweight and average looking people saying it, which is totally fine, but it just feels a bit better when someone who is pretty and skinny says it. I kind of automatically forget that pretty people have personalities and problems as well. I blame a lot of my problems on my insecurities, and I forget that pretty people are insecure to, so I forget they can have problems. Such an unhealthy mindset.

We're all beautiful and unique. I'm older and growing up thank god wasn't bombarded with the images of "perfection", created by advertising agencies. That's all it is. Never compare yourself to anyone else. You are perfect the way you are. (Just remember to keep hydrated!)😜Really & truly there's so much more to life than this b.s. I lost my leg in an accident & have so many scars and chronic pain. But I'm happy. I'm setting up my own business next year, I can walk & talk, something I had to relearn to do. @dreamergirl1140 3 года назад
That's the biggest problem, as evidenced by some of the male comments you find on unretouched photos like these. Also, the edited/filtered photos you see on swipe (dating) apps just reinforces the belief that there's that "perfect" woman out there that a guy just hasn't met irl yet.
@bodiedddddddd
@bodiedddddddd 3 года назад
i agree. but i've realized with experience is that those men are actually kids. they want to impress their friends and other people, and impressing others is their priority. so we should take that as a red flag and stay away from those type of men
@ladybaabaa3294
@ladybaabaa3294 3 года назад
The problem with this is a vicious cycle these days in social media society. I think it starts quite young, with pre-teen girls wanting to look or be like older women they admire and idolise, and then by the time teenage boys become interested in girls in general, they're seeing a lot of "perfect" (aka unrealistic) girls in social media, and thus expecting it in real life. This then extends into older boys and guys who expect AND want it, and THIS is the problem. Oh, and REAL men want REAL women. In my day (I'm 42), during my teens we had no internet, social media hadn't even been heard of, and no one our age had the means to alter photos, or even look at them before getting them developed! NO selfies existed. We had supermodels and I know I aspired to look like them, and sort of did as I was naturally slim and tall, but that was it. It wasn't EXPECTED that we look like them. And there was no way to pretend, apart from stuffing your bra. lol. The ratio of the visibility of natural reality vs the visibility of "mostly unrealistic idealism" was VERY much skewed in the direction of natural reality. Now, it isn't.

I'm old and sound like a boomer, but I miss the days when we just lived our lives. We didn't focus so much on posing and "capturing the moment" because most of us didn't carry a camera around all the time. We weren't so paranoid about what we looked like because our minds had not been warped by false images ( except in the magazines). I don't even look at these images on IG; it's too disturbing. Take a break from "influencers" y'all; use your eyes and observe the real world around you.

I agree and I'm glad that you brought up the point of magazines. I personally think that pictures in magazines are less harmful than instagram pictures because in case of a magazine we all know that it's professional, people posing there are models/actors, they pump incredible money into perfect outfits, editing etc. Meanwhile in case of instagram, some people still think that influencers don't retouch their photos too much. We perceive people in magazines as professionals and influencers on instargram as regular people so we assume that their photos are almost natural. And then we feel bad, because if this 'regular girl' on social media looks perfect on pictures, why can't we? Are we ugly? It sometimes even happens subconsciously, even if we know that influencers retouch photos. It's ingrained deep in our minds, that's crazy.

@@xx-ze2zt Exactly. As a teenager growing up, I knew the magazine photos were not real life. They did make us long to look a certain way, but it didn't last long. I find that not following people whose content is mostly about showing their body and whose pictures make you insecure about your own (and who might be using these apps) really helps self-esteem. Think about this: Instagram is like a huge shelf filled with photo albums accessible to the public... if you were in a waiting room and had access to this shelf, would you pick a photo album that has been photoshopped and that makes you feel bad? Or choose something interesting and upbuilding for you? (Beautiful landscapes for example, that have not been photoshopped)
@ivy3723
@ivy3723 3 года назад
I feel you, Im recovery for an ED and have body dysmorphia. mostly because I was in an abusive relationship but I found myself being compared to his exes, celebrities he found attractive, wrestlers, etc that I look nothing like. It destroyed me but I broke up with him last year a few days before we went into lockdown. Now I’m on my own I’m starting to be more comfortable with how my body looks, I still have off days where I think I’m fat but I know I’m actually healthy, I’d rather look a bit bigger but healthy than look like I’m dead or have rumours about me being on drugs. These videos massively help me. Some of these celebrities (Kim, kylie, etc) have actually helped me too though, I have an hourglass and constantly tried to hide how big my hips were compared to my waist since my mom pointed it out in front of everybody, then I hated it until recently. I wish people would stop using editing apps and brands touching up photos, it literally can destroy mental health, self esteem, everything and it’s not worth it for fake people, the ones who truly love you don’t care how you look, they love you for you and care about your happiness.

It's so sad to see when their natural photos get such awful comments. If people showed as much loved for the natural images as for the edited ones.. you'd most likely see that more influencers would feel confident to post less edited photos. Unfortunately, though, trying to give off this unattainable image of beauty is how a lot of the brands which endorse and pay these influencers want to market themselves. As helping people reach this level of unattainable beauty, body etc.

I think the reason the influencers get such "aweful" comments on natural photos is because they try to trick the public into thinking that they do NOT look like that. I feel that if they edit so much to appear perfect when they are FAR from it puts them in a situation in which they will get "aweful" comments. If they were honest to begin with instead of trying to portray themselves as perfect or flawless, they would not get those hateful comments. If you are going to Pretend you are something you clearly are NOT then you should be prepared for the backlash!
@Black.Spades
@Black.Spades 3 года назад
@@hayozz1647 Understandable, but if those influencers started their social media with posting unedited pictures most of them would not have come as far as where they stand now. There's been "tests" before where people would post similar pictures, and the more the picture was edited the more attention and positive response it got. (until it was too edited, and then the picture would get negative response). I hope we are at a turning point. If so many media influencers post similar pictures, maybe someone who doesn't edit their face and body will stand out from the crowd and get more attention.

good for you. there is no need for any of us to feel ugly especially when that word itself really has no real definition or meaning behind it anyway. all it is is just standards that someone created and eventually majority followed. but it willl always be subjective and will change throughout the years. Best to do is to just accept and love your body and face no matter what shape it's in whether you fall in the "right category" in that certain time or not. in the early 2000's i was mad fun of for my thicker thighs (i had guys in college saying behind my back how they "wouldnt do me"cause of my chubby thighs. then +- 15 years later and suddenly my body was deemed desirable. but it will never be enough ofcourse. it doesnt matter though cause when you love and accept yourself no critics from the outside can ever hurt you. its almost like loving yourself creates like a shield around your body and every insult or critique or insecurity or beauty standard just bounces right back off. i highly recommend it :)

My local gym had a representative ask me what kind of body I wanted to have showing a chart with different shapes depending on the fat, even after I said my goal was just to lose 5 pounds. It was very annoying being asked to have a shape goal when I didn’t want one. I hate that dysmorphia is so normalized in our culture.

I honestly think that influencers need to be held accountable more often, or at least more girls should really just try to uninstall Instagram or at least unfollow these girls. A couple of years ago I spent most of my summer working a mostly solitary job indoors, and then spent most of my free time on Instagram, and my confidence in my body became so so so low. It’s not even that I was convinced that I looked bad, it’s that I genuinely felt as though I didn’t look normal. It wasn’t until I went to the beach later that summer, and actually saw people’s bodies in bikinis that I realized how much my mind was deceived into thinking that those edited photos were the “norm”. Even then, I don’t think that even really fit people who don’t edit should also be considered “beauty goals”. I don’t think the standard should be anything that is only attainable if you put countless of hours in the gym and restrict your eating (not just calories but just eating as though you’re a heavy trainer) . Those things shouldn’t be considered the norm for an everyday person who simply does not have the time, energy or money to give themselves to that. Especially considering the fact women just do have more fat percentage naturally and we shouldn’t work so hard to try to eradicate that.

Oh man, almost EVERY woman has cellulite! No matter how thin, curvy or toned and fit! I've had cellulite since I was 18 and weighed only 50kg at 5'7" in height! I was naturally very slim, but it was still there, at the sides and back of my butt. I still looked damn good! Now, I'm 42, still 5'7" (I haven't shrunk yet, lol) and weigh 62kg (and would look seriously emaciated if I weighed 50kg now as my body shape has changed in over 20 years, as it should), and still have the same cellulite in the same places but also now on the front of the thighs too in some of the more unflattering lighting. I don't love it, but I still look DAMN GOOD!

I have hip dips too and don't give a damn - I never even realised I should until one day I saw a post on Pinterest or something about it, and other than being a little pissed off that someone else thought they had a right to make me insecure, I love my hips. Plus, humans have guts! Humans need guts. Guts are good. If you did not have guts, you might have a very flat stomach, but you'd also be dead. That would not be good. Your body needs somewhere to put them, and in return they keep you up and able to pursue modelling. Give your guts a hug :) The other girls online are beautiful, yes, just like you are beautiful. Normal anatomy does not make you less-than. It makes you a healthy human. :)

I really like the idea of the “lighting/angles/posing” goals appreciation. I’m horrible at taking pictures tbh. I’ve always had to avoid Instagram because of how it’s made me feel about myself, even though I appreciate the beauty I see there. I want to learn how to confidently take photos and I feel like that’s how I can relate/connect to these Instagram women. I wish there were more photos/videos about how to better present yourself in those situations - I feel like I’d fall in love with an influencer like that - like real people with confidence enough to not worry how they look all the time, but with a mind to help others have confidence. The really problem here is that women are actively competing against each other to be most attractive. Confident people don’t feel the need to compete or be fake. Thanks so much for your perspective, hun! Lovely and kind as always.

Like the amount of cardio and dieting on a 'cut' or 'prep' is not something that is sustainable forever, even then its tan, lighting, posing and dehydration etc. I much prefer my body when I've put weight back on post show and feel curvy and strong. It's not their job to worry about other people's perception of their posts but when you have so many followers, of all ages, it's so important to be mindful of what they post. I wish all healthy bodies were loved, not unrealistic ones.

The problem is beyond those apps…have you ever wonder why we feel the need to wear less to feel better or sexy? (And why beauty was minimised to looking sexy) Why we need to look at celebs or influencers without make up or photoshop to feel oh I’m normal?! Looks like the core values have been deformed

I'm really happy you're using your platform to discuss these things. I have an ED and had to delete instagram, it's so toxic. And dammit, people edit videos now wth. Thank you so much for doing this!

Kim & Chloe have had an absolute TON of lipo as well. I've been 105 lbs and my tummy still had a tiny bit of fat on it. Lipo can make you look almost freakishly fat free. Honestly I don't think it looks great in person (the friends I know who have it look kind of odd in person), but it looks amazing on a phone camera where things honestly aren't super detailed b/c the pic is phone or laptop size, not life size.

I have severe body dysmorphia which I am currently in therapy for. I look at these women and it makes me feel so awful about my own body. I already feel uncomfortable in my skin and then I see these women on social media looking literally perfect it makes me feel inadequate. You help me see that it's all a ruse and they don't even look like their photos. That being said, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this content. Please keep it up! You really are helping women 🖤

but also you need to realize there ARE women who have really nice bodies and that shouldn’t make you feel less of a person. i hope therapy works for you and you stop comparing yourself to others, just because other people look “better” doesn’t mean your body is awful. it’s all about mindset.. don’t compare yourself to anyone PERIOD

I’m a tired elder millennial, and grew up in the toxic ANTM era. My heart is healed by these compassionate videos . I have so much faith in the younger generation. So kind, how impressed I am that “wonderful, worthy woman” is the new general consensus. Well done you lovely girls.

What's the "ANTM era"? I'm 34, so also a millennial, but never heard of this. I'm curious as to what it means....

Gosh, Stephanie, I love you. The way you hype these girls up when you're looking at their natural, candid photos makes me so happy I could cry. You don't tear them down or body shame them or make fun of them or berate them. Ily. Thank you.

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I am a mum of 2 and have been fussing over my food intake and working out to look at my "mental ideal" of a body but I am STRUGGLING. Seeing this video has helped me immensely. It's ok to have a pouch that won't go away and it's okay to have dimples. Just enjoy life. Be healthy, practice healthy habits but don't stress over achieving these "goal bodies."

Glad I’m one of the first ones here! Influencers these days are all taking the easy way out, competing to be in the same little spot it’s hard to tell apart of their unique stance even if they do have one. They don’t have to. We don’t have too. It’s all about being beautiful inside out. Thanks for always being the voice of reason, Stephanie
