It's super gross that folks expect women to still look like their 17 year old self as an adult. Thinking that looking like a literal child is the peak sex appeal and beauty is extremely disturbing.

I have struggled with this! Not so much anymore but my body has changed in the last 2 years. I am 25 now and I have more curves than I did at 17! I spent a year absolutely hating this bc I am petite and any extra weight was considered a flaw to me but I am accepting my body more and more. I want to be healthy and get exercise but I’m a woman now!! Not a child

I have to say that Gigi is probably one of my favourite models/influencers. I really commend her for not giving into the insane amount of pressure, that her mother and the public has put her under, for not being "perfect". She's kept her appearance really natural and I think she's even more stunning for it. I hope she continues to the be the confident and beautiful women that she is. It really is so refreshing to see. Especially in these times, when so many women in their 20s just don't feel good enough, and continue to put themselves under the knife.

The part with Yolanda and the cake genuinely made me want to cry :( Gigi's mom should be encouraging her daughter to celebrate and live life, not restrict herself during a special moment. And the way Yolanda kept making her own piece smaller and smaller and taking off the frosting...it's so clear what a toxic and honestly sick mentality she has for her daughter and herself. I'm so glad that it seems like Gigi was able to come out from that relatively unscathed

I can see why Bella would have felt the need to get so much face work done. Like, how did the mother treat her? I can imagine their mother treating Bella like she wasn't as gorgeous as Gigi. I looked SO good”. Whats so, so sad is during that time I still would look in the mirror and completely pick myself apart. I would find anything to be disappointed in. I would compare myself to fitness influencers and feel defeated. I had what I’d probably consider my dream stomach and legs, but at the time I’d look at them and find something, anything wrong with them. After getting older and having some life changing experiences that have helped me realize what’s most important, I feel it’s easier for me to look at my body and be proud. I’m growing a little human which I feel extremely fortunate to be able to do. My body has survived some pretty scary things. I still am critical, but every time I see one of your videos I feel so much more confident and it makes me think “f*** that. I’m not going to talk to myself like that again”. Thank you for creating this kind of content and putting positivity out into the world. You’re wonderful. ❤️

Thank you for saying that you can't compare 17 year old Gigi to adult woman Gigi. Like you said, women aren't supposed to look 17 forever! I've had people close to me try and do the same thing. I was size 0 when I was a teenager. I'm now in my early 30s and I'm about a size 8. Guess what? I'm gorgeous, happy and confident, according to ME. Yes, I have some more pounds than when I was 18. I also have more confidence, boundaries, higher standards, a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, a career and nothing to prove. I'm not interested in looking like I'm 18. I'm interested in living my life as the woman I've become.

Beauty is a marker of reproductive fitness. Teens are always praised by society cause they are the most fertile. The goal of a species is to propagate itself and flourish. So yeah women can't look 17 forever, but evolution is not gonna delete fertility awareness from our brains either. Those instincts exist for functional existential reasons.

I’d like to precise that Gigi didn’t voluntarily lose weight due to the pressure but she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease which made her lose and gain weight multiple times during her career, and people basically shamed her for looking ‘ too thin ‘ and she replied that it’s not a choice that she had made, she’s trying to gain weight and that it’s due to circumstances. I think that it’s very sad that she has to explain to people every time what’s going on with her body since it’s not their business and I really respect her for staying natural and not giving in to the pressure from the industry and the public. Furthermore, unlike most celebrities she didn’t make me feel bad about my body a single time. ❤️ I love her so much. PS : Sorry if there’s mistakes in my comment English isn’t my native language. I know you mentioned Gigi's Hashimotos but also worth noting Bella has Lyme disease! I'm pretty sure she's also spoken about how it's affected her weight in the past too, it's fairly common for Lyme Disease to cause drastic weight loss. I mean none of us can know if that's truly why she lost weight, but it's a possibility. When I started doing cosplay and photo shoots by myself for fun during the first stay at home months, I realized how much “goddess “ ness as you so perfectly put, was to do with creating the image with light, art direction (I like to think lol), correct for medium-makeup, and being open to trying poses or expressions to yourself. It made the models and ads so much less incomprehensible. Less fulfilling in a way, which is disappointing, but kind of cool, because a beauty look or prettiness can come down to self expression, and how you do that w accessories costuming etc. Looks really are that mutable and context-driven, which is different than how I learned!

fun fact? There's a phase of Hashitomoto's Thyroiditis called Hashitoxicosis that causes hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)! It usually occurs during the first few years of Hashimoto's and then slowly you flip over to hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid, which is the main hallmark of the condition. What is very rare though, like you said, is when hashimoto's manifests solely as hyperthyroidism, usually that's Graves disease, but it can and does happen. So gigi could be that very rare person with backwards hashimoto's or she could very well be in the hashitoxicosis phase still, it'd explain her weight loss and why her reasoning for it doesnt make laymen's sense. If she is in hashitoxicosis tho I cant imagine it's gonna be easy to deal with it once it flips, with the kind of enviornment she seems to be in, not to mention her mother. Honestly, for her sake I kinda hope she just got the names mixed up or is one of those rare ass ppl who got Hashimoto's backwards. Hollywood never gives a shit if women have a medical reason they can't lose weight, they gotta lose it anyway, they practically killed Carrie Fisher when they made her lose 30 lbs for the new star wars, that rapid and ill-advised weight loss likely caused her heart attack. I'd hate to see anything like that happen to gigi or anyone else again but i wouldnt be surprised (Hashimoto's and Grave's both run in my family, I know too much about it now lol)

This video is wonderful 🙌🏽!! I actually shared this with my two grown daughters ages (29, wife & mom of 2 children under 2 yrs. and 20, newly “adulting” and traveling the world ) because although they both have great 😊 self esteem and I raised them to love themselves for who they are and I also tell them that they are beautiful inside AND OUT… I still worry (as most mother’s do), that they sometimes put too much pressure on themselves and don’t necessarily always “feel” as beautiful as I know they are. Thank you for showing the REALITY OF THE MODELING WORLD and also TEACHING women/young ladies that their own bodies ARE ABSOLUTELY NORMAL and that 95% of females have cellulite and also explaining how different posing positions and sucking in etc… are all “tools of the trade!!” You’re body positivity and motivating speech is fantastic!! And you don't even realize it when you're 18, then everyday after 19 we spend our whole life's hating ourselves wishing we were still in that one year and could've enjoyed it while it lasted but spent that whole short time feeling insecure even anyways. Years ago, in a discussion with a friend, he said "believe me, if a man is lucky enough to have a woman, naked, in the flesh, he does not see flaws, he sees only what he desires and the beauty of it". This stuck, and whenever I started feeling dissatisfied with that extra 10 lbs or that cellulite here or there , I would remember..words are powerful, and when I watched Yolanda on that show I truly wanted to slap the hell out of her, the inference that a fit, toned body says "lesbian" is so incredibly ignorant, not to mention the other toxic shit she was bleating. No wonder Bella had her entire face reconstructed, and in the end the words she heard as a kid are the same ones she hears now, in that place where our insecurities lurk

We don’t have the idea of the perfect body and face in our heads. It is put there and I am starting to resent the whole industry big time. The worst thing is, that you can’t escape that toxic perfectionism it is everywhere and we all buy into it one way or another. Your videos do help but they don’t change what has been engrained in us since childhood. I have no sympathy for rich kids who make millions of of it tbh. They just keep making young girls insecure.

please dont say that, her videos are the reason why I didnt kms for being ugly" for real, and I believed alot of her viewers can at least can breathe normally in their body and just accept it for 5 minutes instead of showing hate towards it all day. Of course she can't change the industry her own, we are the one who can possibly change, and in the future, things might change too. So it all came down to, if all those women who were insecure about her/their bodies and can't see a way to accept it and live a miserable life and the toxic cycle keeps going, then NOTHING can be changed.

But what I see on Apps like Instagram or TikTok is the opposite of Stephanie’s refreshing positivity and just and endless perpetuation of unrealistic body goals. What I do have a problem with is excusing the influence of people like the Hadids and Kardashians for that matter. They had a horrible mother but they do have the means to change things and still try to sell us on their ridiculous glow ups. I think you can understand their struggles but still hold them accountable. If we keep calling them beautiful nothing will change. They would be if they weren’t so hypocritical about the surgeries they had and they time and money that goes into looking like that.

The reason why I think people see Gigi as ‘average looking’ and not deserving to be a supermodel in my opinion is because she hasn’t got any work done, doesn’t do any extreme diets or workouts all the time, doesn’t dress super flashy and fancy all the time, nor does extremely complex makeup looks all the time. And what really does it for people (again, only my opinion) is Gigi is happy to be low-key, relaxed, and embracing her new life as a working mum and doesn’t want to give into those pressures.
