As an old man over 60, let me ASSURE YOU, this is NOT a new development. Roll the clock back to 1976...bar scene, end of hippies, start of hard drug scene, lot of 'feminism meets party-like-a-man' mentality. You've got single women in their early 20's, revolting against the 'old conservative' viewpoint of 'marriage before sex', so women are bed-hopping, but not for the 'best husband'...oh, no. They want the tattooed 'tough biker' kind, the ones with a rap-sheet 5 pages long, hasn't had a regular job in 3-years, but built his Harley in the Kitchen of his rental flop. They get pregnant from this 'far from ideal' relationship...and start LIVING at the library, department store, etc., trying to find a 'Mr. Right' to ensnare to 'carry the bill' for her promiscuity a few weeks earlier. Guy doesn't catch on, raises her indiscretion, thinking it is his. Princeton University did a study on this, and found that of marriages where 'all the offspring' should have both biological parents raising them at home, 33% of the children were NOT with their biological father, and were only half-blood siblings to the other children in the house. And women wonder why they were so looked down on, in the Bible? Get a clue, this spans THOUSANDS of years, and has NEVER changed!

Always staggers me that unless we do a scientific study, we just don't know if a stick in the eye will hurt.

This is why body count matters. This is the study that proves it. The more partners, the less likely she will feel regret for bad behavior, the less likely she will change her habits, the less likely she will become a solid partner.

It’s been disappointing to me over the years to realise that the women I know do not learn from their mistakes. They keep making the same bad decisions and expect sympathy for the consequences of their bad behaviour.

I'm 44 years old. I have studied/worked in a female dominated field for about 25 years. I have a lot of female friends. None of this surprised me at all. All my female friends in their 30s and 40s who aren't married are all making the same dating mistakes and sleeping with the same kinds of men as when they were in their 20s.

This study is pure gold. A womans regret for past promiscuity only desensitizes her to the "Feeling" of regret and does NOT affect her decision to continue making poor choices. This study explains why a womans body count is important to men and is out-right dismissed by women. A man instinctively understands a womans inability to pair-bond after a promiscuous past and women intuitively know men view female promiscuity as a barrier to partnering. Women with promiscuous pasts have lost their sense of regret and this becomes apparent in her personality, which reinforces mens view of her inability to form a lasting relationship. Body counts are important to men for the exact reasons this study conclusively proves.

As a boy of 17, I got so drunk that my hangover lasted for 2 days. I regretted it terribly, but a week later, I started drinking again and continued to get drunk occasionally throughout my life into my early 70s, but never as badly as my teenage experience. Why did I not stop? Because I love beer, whisky, and socialising and I'm long past making excuses for it. This is human nature. We tend to do the things that we should logically NOT do. It's what makes us human. Only inexperienced men would be horrified, or even surprised, by the findings of this research into women's sexual nature. I have many great memories of casual experiences with women that I would not have had if their previous regrets had taught them to have greater control of their urges, especially when they are ovulating.

Little girls never grow up they just grow old.

I heard a women online make an incredulous statement the other day. She said I did not have sex with him, he had sex with me. Her reasoning was that she was “not on top” therefore she did not have sex with him and this made her innocent of cheating. Unbelievable ridiculous logic.

The cultural conditioning was : legalized abortion on demand, birth control, no fault divorce, courts biased towards the mother and antagonistic towards the father and gov subsidies for single mothers. Essentially society removed all the responsibility previously associated with the natural family dynamic making women dependent on big pharma and big gov.

This is why fathers in the past kept their daughters under strict control. To protect them from themselves. It’s why each religion has their rules too. It’s like ancient knowledge of human behaviour and they wrote it into their texts.

Not surprising. People tend to have a "what's broken is broken" mindset. Women love sex, attention, and validation. Casual sex makes them feel good, stimulates dopamine release. Just like some people who do drugs or play video games day in and day out. They know it brings no value, even cause damage to their health. They feel regret but still do it over and over again.

The funny thing is if I talk to men they understand it nearly instantly but women say things like "we do things but mean it different. You have to be more empathetic". They feel regret if the sexual encounter either 1. Didn't live up to their expectations or, 2. Didn't lead to the acquisition of resources from that sexual partner.

I lived and worked overseas for 14 years. My first impression of some cultures outside of the USA was not good. I assumed women were not treated very well. And, in some cases, women did suffer the wrath of less than honorable men. However, after gaining life experience and learning to see things for what they are and not what I wanted things to be, I came to realize there is a good reason for running a household, and community (village) with discipline and order - not necessarily an iron fist. What I learned is that women, generally speaking, CANNOT handle so-called freedom. When left to their own devices and not held to account women make horrendous decisions. They tend to think and act like toddlers. When their minds and bodies are not occupied with completing necessary tasks, everything becomes about fun, excitement, and pleasure. They cannot handle too much downtime. Too much downtime leads to them finding something to occupy their minds - drama - causing problems or inventing BS with another woman; finding something to complain or cry about; comparing what they have or don't have with others (women)...etc. It is insane. Funny, sad, but true... We toured an assembly plant in a southwest Asian country. Most of the workers on the floor were women. The assembly floor manager told us that women are better equipped to mentally handle mundane (boring) work tasks compared to men. He said women could work 8-10 hours per day doing the same thing over and over again without complaint. He commented most men start off working fine, but after a few months ask to do something more productive or they quit. Furthermore, he stated that if/when there is downtime on the assembly line or fabrication shop they have to send certain women home for the day. Why? Because they will start fights with other women - rumors, innuendo, rude comments, destruction of personal property (locker room), and character assassination (based on the perception that a female co-worker is receiving preferential treatment). He explained this is why they do not hire women as supervisors on the floor. Women with degrees are hired for white-collar jobs far away from the assembly floor. That tour of SW Asian assembly and fabrication plants helped us to get a better handle on why our company experiences an inordinate number of personnel issues. Upon our return, we devised a two-year strategy to realign the workforce to ensure we suffered less BS. It worked... The result was less workplace drama and HR complaints. Now that I am retired...I can get away with saying what needs to be said.

The hardest part is realizing women know all of this, but they just don't care and have zero remorse.

I have noticed this with my wife. She is my fourth i am her 23. We are 35 and have been together for 13 years so she slept with the same number as her age when we had gotten together. She cannot admit fault about anything she does and it is honestly on the verge of ripping apart our marriage. Her behavior is not just like this with me either but our 4 young kids also. It does not just apply to sexual acts but choices as well.

Being a former EMT and brother of a RN I hear a lot of this. My sister used to send her friends my way none actually wanted me and kept going back to being treated like a ceps chasing men that don’t work out I told my sister stop your friends are not the way you see them

Never believe what a woman says, believe what she does.

I have a friend whose wife cheated on him with two guys from her cycling club. He asked her if she felt guilty, and she said the first time she threw away her body fluid soaked underwear and spent hours in the shower, crying and trying to clean herself off. She said it kept getting easier each time however, and she wouldn't have ever stopped if she hadn't got caught and exposed to her family and children. The validation, attention and illicit bedroom fun trumped everything else in the end.

I posted this before, but my comment disappeared, somehow. The question is how "regret" is MEASURED. Is the regret determined by what they answer to a question? Women are known for not replying with the truth of their feelings in surveys and tests, but rather with what feelings they feel they are expected to feel, even when the answers are completely anonymous. There was a study in sexuality and what excites people, where they rated the sexiness of images on a screen, but besides their rating, their excitation response was also measured with probes. The funny thing is, for men, the ratings and the measured response were in agreement, as expected. For women, however, the measured sexual response and their rating were in inverse correlation. Anything that excited them, they said it didn't; anything that didn't excite them, they said it did. Quintessentil liars to the bone: Lie first; ask questions later. No studies, therefore, have any value whatsoever if they are based on feedback from females.

Since women are not held to account for their behavior, they do not feel the need to take responsibility for their actions. Hence, they feel less regret each time they make a poor decision. Too, everything is men's fault, so they can just blame their poor decisions and bad behavior on men. Simple sociopathy.

Scientist do know exactly what regret is for in evolution. The question should be, "Why is society teaching everyone to ignore regret?" Basic animalistic desires is promoted while logical thinking, planning for the future and anything related to morality is frowned upon here in American society. It's sad really.

What the study fails to notice (I'm saying after witnessing a number of cases), what they regret its, most likely, not the promiscuous behavior, but the choice in partner. For some reason, the more promiscuous the woman becomes, more she acts like an addicted gambler, believing the next guy she pulls might come with a better set of cards.

So basically water is wet! Be careful boys, have and keep your standards.

Regret and or shame are completely unrelated to the next act. Similar to a drinker after a night out feeling regret but not stopping the next drink.

We underestimated the damage social media has in women/girls.

As a man, I never had "inaction regret" because I never engaged in casual sex. Anytime I was sexually intimate with a woman, it was because it meant something and that she meant something to me. Despite any fantasy, I just don't take it likely.

So basically scientists proved "once in the streets, she stays in the streets"....

This is especially astonishing to me! as This is literally what an 80 year old man (the father of my friend) once told us. He said and I quote : "Once a woman has gone bad, its over, there is no turning back" I at the time challenged him and said no way man, people can change, and he sternly stood on his ground and said , once a woman takes part in such activity, she is done for good! it was nearly a decade ago and this study really proves one thing to me, the older generations had believes that were 100% true and out of past experiences. They couldn't convey it in a scientific form/tone, and us failing to act based on those believes made us all suffer.

I can relate to this, in my youth were some opportunities with bad strings attached. One was a woman in college who was dating a guy I knew; I couldn't because of that and she seemed damaged, sleeping with men for attention. Another was a married woman making it sounds like she'd fallen in love with me at first sight and really wanted to go at it--but also was wanting to live out some kinky S&M stuff including the "R". In those and and other chances something in the back of my head was telling me I could have had her and not faced consequences, but in the end I held to my morals. I contrast this with the women I've known who had multiple partners and felt they were exploring or validating themselves, or to whom the guy was the culprit and not her, or throwing the dice over and over hoping for Mr. Perfect, and regretting not that they slept with a lot of guys but they slept with someone and it didn't lead to money and happiness.

I wonder how much of men's regret for porn would mirror this study.

My ex wife has told me she has regretted treating me like trash (i lost count.) Now she has only one regret,not being able to swindle me, and my parents out of everything we have. That is the real regret, because it effects her comfort level.

Their regret isn't in their actions. It's in their choices in the men they sleep with. They keep expecting Chad to commit but he's doesn't so she goes out and tries again.

It is important, also, to consider the effect of widespread contraception on women's sexual behaviour. In most countries with little or no contraception, women don't behave like that.

This comes to mind: Navajo Indian tradition says that your conscience is like a small triangle inside your heart. When you know something is wrong, it turns and pricks the flesh of your heart with one of its corners. My interpretation of this study is this: Women's "regret" after a one night stand is just the male equivalent of post-nut clarity. It is very temporary and it doesn't change their actual views or desires.

In a world before the availability of the "BIRTH CONTROL PILL" there casual sex was like Russian roulette, harder to hide, and there was more shame in being unfaithful. In our world, the pill, abortion and a promotional culture make it the "thing to do!" But I say that sleeping around not only carries risks of STD's, it also degrades anyone's ability to recognise Love in themselves and others. I suspect strongly that it degrades the parent child association.

During earlier 2000s men and women use to go clubbing or clubbing holidays so they could drink heavily and have sex with one another! Now days men behaving like this are either called predatory or misogynist! Certainly dont here anything negative about women behaving like this!

I saw many women cry a lot and after the regret phase is over they feel like anything happened. Regret phase is something that help to purge their feelings then after a long cry they feel free. While for men is totally different, we are more self reflective and try to build block after block from our failures because statistically men are more prone to failures and have to deal with that.

As a Gen X Guido weightlifter I had so many fun casual sexual encounters, in HS, college, from bars, dance clubs, 4 spring breaks, hell driving down the road back then you could actually pull up to a hottie in a car and chat her up! But i still get mad at myself over the 5 opportunities I let go or passed on?!?! 😂 I still replay them over in my my mind and say "idiot! what were you thinking?!!" 30 years later! WTF 🤔😤🤣🤣🤣

My theory is that regret requires a social catalyst to provoke change. And with the lack of accountability for infidelity and general indecency there were no social consequences linked to that guilt. So while they were informed of their bad actions, since no lasting effects were suffered from it, no change has taken place.

First lie is the hardest, & it gets easier every lie after. Same with stealing, killing, affairs, etc.

Unless they ask what the regret is actually based on instead of assuming it is just about having sex, then the study is not looking at the real issue: the complex emotions that underlie and surround “regret” itself….

As a long-time maiden saving myself for my wedding day, I can't fathom casual s*x. It's much too costly in so many ways mentally, emotionally, and physically. The study sounds like what people go through when addicted to gambling or p*rn, repeating the same mistake to numb out the bad feeling from before. It's a vicious cycle and the world promotes this. What I like most and find most heartening about this study is that a scientific study in psychology was actually published that reported a negative result.

Side note: stop letting these women get away with calling these regrets "mistakes". Hold them accountable. They are not mistakes, you don't "mistakingly" have casual sex, as if you just happened to fall into this in the same way a person trips and falls over an obstacle. No, these are active decisions, not mistakes, you ACTIVELY choose to casually seek attention, flirt, walk into a bedroom, take off your clothes, and then finally sleep with a man. Don't let women soften their active bad decisions by calling them mistakes, those are not the same in the slightest.

This study's results tell me that casual encounters are a habit.

The regret comes from simply choosing what they perceive to be a mistake… but that wouldn’t lead a change to behaviour with sexual strategy because it is beyond our control. It’s similar to someone with bad eating habits not changing.

So the more partners a woman has had in the past means the less regret she feels. So if you committ to a woman who has been extremely promiscous then you are committing to a woman who has a reduced capacity for guilt. Sounds about right.

That explains exactly what I'm experiencing on dating sites. I thought I was doing something wrong.

Lots of times regret leads to worse choices. Many times, the reason is a feeling of hopelessness about changing behavior. If I’m an alcoholic, and every time I try to quit alcohol, I end up binge drinking because I missed the drink so much, I can become so pessimistic about my chances for ever quitting the drink that I just give in to it. The same happens for almost every vice. This is the challenge of regret. The LOGICAL conclusion from looking at your own past behavior is that it’s probably worthless to try. In my own opinion, one of the only real ways to break this is religion. And I’m an atheist. Having a religious belief that you either can break the habit or that there is some kind of salvation in trying, even without success.

I want to fast forward 100 years to see where all this ends up.

Women would never tally casual encounter in total notch count because it wasn't a serious relationship. And majority of women are never alone even when they say are "single and not dating".

I learn a long time ago, when I was young that you shouldn't care that much for what a woman say, but pay attention to her actions. They rarely lie.

Knew a girl like this I slept with and became friends with (big personal regret of mine) but it gave me every insight as to how this girl was not even close to how "sweet" I thought she was. Every weekend she'd sleep with a slob, tell me how bad she felt about it, and then do it all over again next week. Edit: Unlike her regret, I cut it out and we no longer speak.

About regret - regret or guilt is your consience telling you you violated your own standards. When you listen to your conscience, you become more in tune to it, more focused. When you override your conscience enough times you it becomes numb.

That fits. My ex continually did(and still does) make the same mistakes over and over in almost every corner of her life. Frustrating to watch.

As a child / teenager I felt diminished by my lack of prowess. In my late teens ( 18/19) I joined the practice of casual sex and after a few encounters I was appalled at my actions. I later became a Christian at 21, married at 23. 2 days later I became 24. I do regret opening that can of worms. My wife has been with no one but me . I do feel that life would be simpler if casual sex was not a thing. I hear of old men with multiple partners and my skin crawls. ( I am now 54 myself).Don’t you know that a piece of you breaks of and in its place the piece that broke off the other takes it’s place. There is a spiritual thing in sex and you don’t want to mess with the unknown world.

The bizarre development in the dating scene is an outcome of a few decades of birth control pill and other contraception technologies. It's so new in history and society has so unreflected reaction to it that this is going to lead to much more bizarreness in the future.

I've noticed that women usually don't have the ability to admit fault and then self correct their behavior. For instance, they want to talk about their problems and they want you to just listen. No thought is given to fixing said problems. I'm not surprised they would make terrible decisions, regret it, cry about it to someone else, and then continue to make the same damn choices.

Their regret is just for show. Women only feel regret when they lose a good situation in which they're utter freeloaders, literally nothing else will make a woman feel any sincere regret.

Caught my wife cheating and a year later I found out she cheated a couple weeks after being caught after pleading for days that she was sorry. Makes sense.

Women have been handed so much support that they can basically do anything and still be fine. There's close to no penalty for getting pregnant to whoever, their kids aren't going to starve or go homeless because they didn't lock in a relationship. The system will re-distribute other people's income to them whether they recklessly created their situation or not and five minutes later they'll have another guy making them feel wanted
