Awesome! I was looking at building the exact same thing but instead of the slide was trying to do a drop set up. I wish I would have seen this first. You could put a lock pin or sliding tube clamp stop to limit forward travel of the front slide tray. Assuming same machine is always carried on it you k ow where you want it to stop. Also if you spray the slides with waxoil it is very slick for metal on metal and after about a week sets up firm enough as to not pick up dirt like other lubricants. I ended up building a gear rail trailer that collapses width wise. Will upload video shortly.

Wow your trailer is crazy. I hope it works out. Do you have the sliding parts pinable? I bet you paid more than you thought for what seems like minimal parts. I know I did. I looked into doing trolley casters and such but it was going to raise my price tag 500 dollars. And I worried about my bearings and bare metal sitting outside.

@@ThinkBuildTest mine went from being something sellable to just a project to prove to myself it could be done. You’re right, the supplies add up extremely fast! Used right and left hand threaded rod and a sprocket setup to link them the first time. Threaded rod doesn’t like repetitive higher speed turning and it only worked a few times before knurling up. All said and done we sold the sxs for a jeep due to my youngest having asthma. Miss it.. plan is to give this away to a friend that will be putting lock pins in for his machine width. I think you guys will have a huge hit with that. If you want help promoting it I know the SXS blog guys well and could set you up to get one to them to show.

Could also bring to the spring races to try getting visibility.

A couple of questions 1. With the added wheel bump in the front for loading, what keeps the wheels from popping out of the cradle prematurely when backing off the trailer? 2. The slider works great, but how does it perform after you’ve driven in a rain/snowstorm or a simple dusty road where loose dirt, gravel and sand build up on the slider. Does it still slide easily, or will the cradle bind up and not move or require more force to move it? 3. Any difference in function with different terrains (facing uphill or downhill, sloped off to one side)? 4. Anyway to attach a second trailer so friends/family don’t have to take 2 vehicles? Thanks Very nice idea, great for pulling behind my 5th wheel.
@ThinkBuildTest
@ThinkBuildTest 4 года назад
You keep the straps on when in reverse. The slider works fine when its dusty just jumps a little more. We keep paper towels and wipe, its mainly to extend the life of the plastic. Any trailer off camber when loading can make your drive wheels slip on metal ramps. I Have had the problem many times in the mountains with other setups. . If you have a full width vehicle there is less room for error but if you are at 64" if you're end up parked at a slight angle it's no big deal. I would personally not double tow behind a non 5th wheel because of wobble. .
@jamespaters8665
@jamespaters8665 4 года назад
i see a couple of point of failure , mind you , i haven't rnd it , its always important to see how much abuse these trailers can take with weight on them. the long beam or tube that holds the front tires , when bouncing or taking a massive drop could snap . as these type of trailers are going to be used offroad , mountains , rugged , dips etc. 2nd is the front catch can have a second layer to it so you can add the strap to it , adding security grooves or lock in place cuts/welds will make it you can change where the strap will lock into place. 3rd i didnt see it in the video add a place to hide or store the ramps in the frame or back of the trailer that allows each access and removal of them . 4th , add optional accessory underneath where you can store a small shovel. 5. consider making a dual axle setup for stronger support. 5th great job on the trailer

@detonate69
@detonate69 4 года назад
Longer ramps, even a foot longer would help you clear when loading.
@ThinkBuildTest
@ThinkBuildTest 4 года назад
It was almost 2 feet from the ramps in the skid zone. The tongue bar sits higher then the deck unlike the usual trailer that the tongue is below the deck. A ball hitch height adjustment is a 30 dollar remedy to get it to drop the back end without having to loose bed space to longer ramps. In our opinion anyways. The right longer ramps would get the job done but we are aiming for space saving as much as possible with keeping it simple.
@videoscrapheap
@videoscrapheap 3 года назад
Would longer ramps change that approach angle enough for lower clearance rigs?
@ThinkBuildTest
@ThinkBuildTest 3 года назад
You could use longer ramps but it is more to have to fit in a space. I really like the small ramps they are light and easy to store. Adjusting the hitch height is the best way to keep every thing minimal and that was the goal of our build for our needs.

You see the amount of flex in the front frame when they load the RZR on it i can see the tube getting stuck on the other tube that slides. Also with a lot of load miles I can see welds and frame material breaking. Lot of people don't realize how much force there is when something bouncing up and down on something for hours.

Longer ramps or a self storing ramp will ne way better safer and solve the hitting problem. You want your truck and trailer level when loaded and pulling the trailer. So change ball height is not a good idea. Cable tie down nice idea but really a waste to me . You have nice strong steel where the wheel lock in i would just tie to them. Only 2 point attachment to fail not 6 per wheel.

Its a super rough time to start a mfg business. As other trailer mfg run out of there old stock their prices are rising also. Steel is up almost 3X in 2 years. Shipping costs are outrageous with fuel up. I really wanted these to be affordable for everyone but suppliers won't set up long term contracts because they can't guarantee a price. Its not the America we knew before 2020. With the housing markets skyrocketing it can still be a savings over buying a house with more real estate if you calculate the cost per square footage to store a trailer.

Four times the price of a normal trailer and four times the tongue weight for a given load, a long ass single beam to get bent so the trundle doesn't travel clean the first time you have even a minor fender-bender or grandma backs into it, and half the time spent talking about loading advantages which don't exist or tie down advantages instead of the speed/ease of breakdown. You're selling way out of your wheelhouse in this video and almost anyone who can afford or needs a trailer is having a chuckle. People who can store a sxs can store a sxs on a trailer in about the same space, you're solving a problem that doesn't actually exist for 99% of consumers.

@JTillotson80 Год назад
@@ThinkBuildTest No problem. I appreciate hard work and engineering. Considering the increased tongue weight, the wheel load is quite low and the departure angle and tongue breakover are probably improved, I could see this being marketed with larger floatation tires as a mover for much rougher or muddier terrain as a useful niche. Given that you are specializing what is a generalized piece of equipment in the average platform trailer, play to your strengths. Also, find a way to hang the ramps off the central beam or tongue or something, telling the customer to just bring them to the vehicle and find alternate storage makes it feel like a critical component to the loading and unloading is totally an afterthought.
