TikTok "Finance" Gurus Can’t Stop Lying 

As a former server, the most awkward question is if someone asks what you want your tip to be.

This guy had a plan for every amount the waiter would have asked for. And the top was always going to be $100. If the waiter had been like, "Give me that million", Brad would have talked about how everyone just wants more than they are owed blah blah blah.

#1) He would’ve never tipped more than $15k because of the gift tax rate of 40%. #2) He would’ve gotten far more attention if he’d surprised the waiter with the $1 million tip. He clearly doesn’t have that kind of money to spare.

As someone who worked as a poker dealer and in food service for the last decade of my life: we are not allowed to solicit tips. We cannot say, “I want this much money!” We HAVE to say, “Whatever you deem appropriate,” or we could get fucking fired. I saw it happen at a casino, because a supervisor was walking by when the dealer answered honestly. What a bunch of dumb bullshit that just shows how completely out of touch with reality these people are.

You know if that waiter actually said a million dollars they would call him entitled & that he wanted a hand out.

It’s true, Gunnar. Last spring I sent a letter to the IRS that said “no u” and I got the exact amount I owed in taxes back as a refund. And then everyone clapped. 100% true story not clickbait

As a former server and busser, when someone asks you that question we almost always assume its a trap. Ive been asked a similar question before and said what i honestly wanted, then proceeded to get berated about how im not worth that and thid and that and yada yada like dude why did you even ask? I gave an honest answer to what i thoufht was an honest question. I would NEVER assume that the questjon of "how much shpuld your tip be?" As serious.

They will contrive a trap for you at the end of your interaction and shake their head at how you've got it all wrong. I’m not rich but I do actually have a $700 pen. A few years ago my dad died - it was unexpected and sad, but when I received some money he’d left, I didn’t want to just spend it on bills or food or something transient. Instead I bought a super nice pen from a renowned European maker. I had my dad’s initials engraved and am trying to find a way to incorporate his ashes into it. I wrote a letter to my mortgage company as a non taxable living person I should not have to pay to live in my home. All the losers saying they will take my home you are just jealous of my financial knowledge.

I worked at the nz tax department (the IRD) for 7 years in debt collection. There were heaps of these loons writing in even back then. Then it’s just an eyeroll and enforcement action generally.

I knew a guy like this In college. His dad was loaded and gave his son tons of money and nice things. He was a flexer and bragged about his money, all the businesses he was doing with it, etc. it’s like you didn’t earn that money, your dad did. An being an “event planner and party promoter” because you paid a local DJ $130 to play at a party for two hours doesn’t make you a brilliant businessman.

in an alternate universe the first guy did the same to another waiter and they did ask for a million and he still gave a 100 and said “you have to understand your worth and be honest w yourself”

Everyone knows that if the government doesn’t respond to your unhinged letter they endorse everything you wrote in that letter. It’s legally binding.

Sometimes, watching glimpses of these kinds of people on channels like Gunnar's is like peeping into an alternate universe. However, it is important to remember that these are just the snake oil salesmen of the digital era. They are parasites, they have always been around and they can easily be ignored. The unfortunate side is that there will always be people that are gullible to depart with their hard earned cash in order to receive whatever promise is being sold.

There's nothing like getting the guys together and staring at our phones and yelling random dollar amounts at each other.

FYI, most restaurants won't process outrageously large tips because of all the trouble it would cause the business for processing obvious mistakes (especially drunken mistakes). So a "million dollar tip" would have never happen.

Another thing about the tip. A lot of credit card companies will cap the tip amount, but the business won’t know this until the charges clear. So when the restaurant gives the employee the full tip, they are out the difference.

Brad (Bradley?) was low key so wrong for this. 1. there can be a lot of issues with giant tips in terms of irs stuff 2. a lot of places would fire you for asking for tip 3. some places have tip pools and so the person wouldn't get 1,000,000 anyways even by some miracle he actually did that and didn't just yell at waiter
