Awesome video bud! I used 14 awg, it's close to 15, not easy to work with the heavier gauges - gotta make sure every turn is wind neat and snug like you say....but it's worth the effort, especially with the wind that you get. Looking forward to the next video, great job Billy!

Nice video -great coils. Lots of patience but there is an easier/quicker way to do it manually. If you need a 4mm area copper wire (12AWG) then simply use 16 x 0.5mm strands (22AWG). Calculate the length you need, lets say 10 feet, then multiply that by 16 and simply double-up that length of wire 4 times to get 20 feet of 16 strands -now cut and solder the ends and wrap it round a bobin. Use this to wind with and you don't have to be so slow and accurate with your winding as the smaller wires will naturally fill in any gaps... Won't look quite as nice but will work -good luck!

Should grab a 1 inch thick rubber pad and install it on a tensioner arm that way you get a little drag resistance on the large spool and to help that tension wrap the coils tighter without much effort. The tensioner arm can be simply spring loaded. Trust me when I say it will be a massive time saver.

add some adjustable tension to the wire, it will help keep it straight and line up with previous wind plus keep it packed better, you want the winds close as possible

So, I've been looking around, I've seen both this coil design, and just standard round ones and I've googled relentlessly. I've got rectangle magnets on the way, would it be best to make rectangular coils, coils like this, or just round ones? Is one more efficient than the other?

I really enjoyed your video very informative! If I may, could you explain to me the magnets? I know neodymium magnets are the best, but there are different pulls. N53 is the strongest but the range with 1 pound of pull to over 100 pounds of pull. This seems to be the "hidden secret" to these PMAs. Any info would be helpful and really appreciated.

I made mine out of the fan that obsolete back and forth coot hanger super glue and hot glue and it works good you have to hand crank it but it works

Congratulations! I am from the State of Rio Grande do Norte - Brazil. Good winds and lots of sun. I am trying to manufacture a wind turbine to charge batteries of 24 Volts dc. From what I understand you use AWG wire # 15 and 65 (sixty-five) turns. Question: How long is 1 turn? Another question: You have two configurations to connect the coils. In one configuration the voltage is high and the amperage is low and the other the amperage is high and the voltage is low. As I intend to charge batteries of 24 Volts dc I believe it is better to configure in high amperage and low voltage. Are my observations correct?

Hello. Got a question for you. I understand coil making, but I wonder about how many coils? So, I have made a prototype wind gen. And it works. But it’s small and I’m thinking about going bigger. Again, I know that heavier gauge wire produces more amps, and smaller gauge gives more volts. Considering it will still be small, I would like to be able to charge 12v batts. But my cut in speed is too high. I need gale force winds to get any usable voltage out of it. Right now I’m running six coils, three phase. Question? Would going from six coils to nine coils help me get a much lower cut in voltage? Along with running twelve magnets per disk, as opposed to the eight I have now. This is still just an experiment for me, as I don’t really need a gen. But I do want to produce a usable voltage at a reasonable wind speed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommand you to make the stator with 6 leads comming out...So this way, you could by a flick of a switch change the config of the wiring and change the output as you want depending on the winds...

I let out my secret to how I winded my coils of the one I built and sold. I am not building another HAWT of any kind since I figured out how to make a high amp VAWT for so much less. Tricycle! I used a salvaged tricycle front wheel and peddle crank to wind them very fast. Just clamp the handlebars on a table and put your wire mold assembly on the peddle post on one side, then use the peddle with a extension on the other side as your hand crank. 90 rounds of 15 g wire spun onto nice compacted coils in minutes.

Wind Turbine as power generation What I seen so far on RU-vid and my conclusions · Al stator winding making consist only of coils wound with no laminated core or ferrite that would definite increase the magnetic flux around then coils that would increase the current. · Most stators seen are made of wood material, not recommended for outdoor application. Wood tend to warp and lose its consistencies on high humidity witch reduce its efficiency. · All coils are cemented in epoxy or hard fiberglass material. The coils then have no way to dissipate heat in higher current production, eventually they will burn up. · Wind speed must be over 25mph in order to generate sufficient current to charge any battery bank. Must area just don’t have this kind o wind. · When you get any significant wind it’s usually not constant. In most cases are gusty that get irregular output. This mean that the energy production oscillates from too low output to a higher output witch only last a few seconds. · Over charging in storming condition is wasted as heat in the dump load resistor. · Most of the design ate massive bulky system that require heavy stands and support structure. · Most of the one I seen are not manufactured with precision tools which causes noticeable wobbling and therefore diminish its performance. · A great number of stators are using higher gage wires like 26 and above which give you voltage production but poor amperage output to charge any battery bank. Conclusion: After experimenting with both wind and solar energy production, by far so far solar energy production for individual homes is more stable, reliable and efficient. The best wind turbine is definite the Missouri’s Freedom PMA.
