Lol. This dope feind was absolutely stoned on the junk here. He's been a junkie his whole life but he said he only did dope for 3-4 years. LMAO. Yeah right!!! I've never touched dope. It's for losers & lowlifes. Same with all narcotics. I worked in college at a group home for recovering dope heads. We always could tell when they were able to get that junk smuggled in because there's no denying when someone's high on dope. He's high as a kite on dope here. He knew what the consequences were.
The tragedy of this... the tragedy of the whole situation... he had a bad hip, it was just awful and he knew he'd need it replaced. And according to those around him, this was going to be The Heartbreakers last tour. He wanted to finish the tour. He was in pain daily, he went to bed in pain, he died due to an overdose of painkillers... because he didn't want to disappoint us. His fans. He was doing it for us. He literally sacrificed himself for us, to enjoy his art and talent. Rest in peace Mr. Petty, never got to see you play live and I'll forever miss that opportunity. I've since gone and seen Bob Seger and Elton John on their farewell tours. Friends and fellow fans, these artists won't be around forever. Once they're gone, they're gone. If you have the chance, see them. Appreciate them.
Bad hip my ass, he was a god-damned junkie plain and simple. He knew the game when he was doing drugs. It's always the same when one od's, he had this wrong or she had that wrong. Boo hoo Don't do drugs morons.
I hardly remember a day that went by that I didn't here one of his songs on the radio or from my collection. It's been 3 yrs. since Tom passed and his music lives strongly through my generation... Class of 79!
Yes thank you Skip for sharing this! He meant so much to us. Feels like losing a good friend. Crying again over here but happy to see how happy he was here..just before the end. RIP Mr.Tom Petty. We will love you and your music forever.
Wow, 60th? So all the times that I saw him in my life, that was just two years for you. I hope you always had these front-row seats, so he started recognizing you. Cheers to you.
I went to see Tom and the heartbreakers on 7/2/17 for my 14th birthday, I think that that just proves that every generation loves him and the heartbreakers wether if you’re 100 years old or if you’re just a baby, for as long as I can remember my parents have raised me on T.P. & the heartbreakers music. Tom is and always will be my idol, I love him soooo much❤️ ❤️ think that even through the saddest of times Tom wouldn’t want us to back down or breakdown, so Tom this is for you Even through the darkest of days and the saddest moments I won’t back down because I know that that’s what you would want me to do and I just want to make you happy and proud❤️❤️❤️ well Tom, now you are learning to fly into the great wide open among the wild flowers😇😇😇 I will love and miss you always and I will continue to listen to you and the heartbreakers on a daily basis like I always do, I will continue to play heartbreakers songs on my guitar every day like I always do, and anytime I hear something that reminds me of you, I will always think of you and look up towards that big stage in the sky where I know that you will always be playing your guitar. Rock on forever Heartbreaker 🎸😇❤️😭Good bye Tom we Love and Miss you always 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Your 14 or maybe 15 by now, so your experience and being a fan of Tom Petty will live on longer than us folks that are older...Your post was a beautiful tribute to Tom Petty..
Lillian, I have a daughter your age and she too is raised listening to to TP. I am so moved by your straight from the heart tribute to a fallen hero, that not a sad comment, but because so innocent, it has the tears rolling down my face. Sweetheart, you have a gift. Anybody who can use words so simply yet effectively owes it to herself to give professional writing a try. With Tom Petty as inspiration, you can not lose.I am marking down your name, and I am going to keep my eye out for you. There are not many real writers anymore, so it is WIDE OPEN. Maybe you too will write songs on your guitar. I am not joking, I hope I hear more from you some day soon!
What a beautiful tribute. Like your parents, I raised my kids on TP... took them to their first TP concert when they were 10 years old. I'm so glad you got to fall in love with quality, from the heart, real music. RIP TP.
I was at a friends house one day after school, he went to his album stack, pulled one out and said "You gotta hear this, this guys a musical genius"! That was 1979, I was 15yrs old. Been listening ever since!!
Same here, 1979 and 15y. at my friends house after school, when she mentioned she was going to see Tom Petty in concert.. She put on Here Comes My Girl, and I've been hooked ever since, That Song, out of the MANY that I LOVE, is STILL my number one song!
When I was 8 years old watching television I saw the video for "you got Lucky" and I had the feeling of having heard music from another level and dimension..... Imagine being a child and since 1982 I became a fan of the heartbreakers... greetings from Stgo Chile
In my opinion of all the musicians the world has lost recently, Tom Petty's passing is the hardest to take for me! His free and positive spirit and of course his amazing music is like medication for the soul! He truly brought hope and light to many people in a dark and frightening world. He will be missed very much forever!
The same for me. I was upset when Freddie Mercury passed, but Tom's has exceeded that. I am so glad that I got to see him on his last tour. One of the very few people who never put out a bad album. RIP Mr. Petty, you are dearly missed.
Jon Custar i agree 100 percent, I'm 13 yrs younger n even the younger generations luv him n heartbreakers music. Total devastatiin of my heart Total!!!
eddy gee That didn’t define his whole life. He ran charitable foundations and did little, nice things, every day. He made a difference in the world, he left a huge catalog of music, and lots of people cried, when he died.
The older i get the more i feel lost in a world i dont recognize anymore. Musicians were sooo talented in our day as most commentors here can look back and remember the good times. It helped make us good people! I cant think of how much this music helped me through hard times. I can say not only were they great musical tallents . THEY WERE FRIENDS! RIP TOMMY BOY
I often become overwhelmed with memories, emotions, deep seated emotions of the roller coaster 60’s and 70s....my forgotten 80s and 90s and 2000s....too busy i guess....and cry for the mourning of those days....sad/happy.....the music and folks that i dont remember NOT being there...thought they were timeless....youth I suppose....and the hope that comes with it.
As I read through the comments while listening to what I considered to be one of the most influential & definitive songs that embodies the purest essence of and captures the true spirit that solidifies Rock n Roll’s status as one of mankind’s greatest accomplishments and most significant contributions for all of humanity to enjoy. The Genre of Rock n Roll has stood up to the test of time which in my opinion must take place to be considered qualified as a proper determinant of Greatness. while throughout the history of Rock n Roll Music there were some Dark Times that threatened the Authenticity of our beloved medium such as Disco, New Wave, New Age although around the same time Punk had been Labeled “Punk Rock” several songs immediately come to mind that to seem a lot more like I don’t know what to call it but definitely not even approaching what could be considered Rock. Just off the. Top of my
Hi Whispering Eagle, Well said. I was recently saying the same thing to my mother. This isn't the world I grew up in, and I don't recognize it anymore. There's far more road behind me than there is before me. It's almost over and I'm glad, I feel like a dinosaur that doesn't belong here anymore. The only rock & roll on the radio is on the oldies stations. We wanted our MTV, but now the only music videos are here on RU-vid. Rest In Peace Tom Petty, you are truly missed. ☺️ ✌️ 🖖 😷
@Joe Blow Hi! Well said. Yes we did grow up with the best music of all time. Many years ago I was over at a friend's house we were playing double solitaire. Her son's friends came by waiting for him to get home. She had the oldies radio station on, and we were singing along with the song, same as we have for years. One of the kids noticed, she asked what kind of music it was she liked it, and couldn't believe us old folks knew all of the words. LOL!!! We had to explain rock and roll, and the song was about as old as she was. She had never heard it before. (Say what?) Half hour later we had new rock fans. I don't know what these kids parents had been listening to. When at red lights if there's a young person next to me, I crank up the rock, to share the music. They need to learn. 😁 Take care, stay safe. ☺️ ✌️ 🖖 😷
I don't often cry when I hear of a celebrity passing. I might feel sadness for their loved ones, but rarely am I moved to tears. But wow, did this loss ever hit home. I still get teared up just watching this. Probably because Tom had the ability to make us all feel like loved ones. Through his music, humor, and sparkling eyes. He will always be my absolute favorite. ❤
Thinking exactly the same thing. Feel so bad for his family. They finally got him off the road and got a week. I was fortunate enough to have seen him on this tour on June 5th. So grateful I did. Rest easy Mr. Petty and thank you!
Steven Kaufman I caught on to him in '78, saw him in concert in '79 during the Lawsuit Tour and have loved him ever since. Great voice, great tunes, great lyrics, great songs, great band, funny, smart, intuitive, on the side of justice and all-around kinda guy you'd enjoy going down the river with. We were lucky to be on to him so early; made for a nice, long ride, one I loved every minute of.
i saw him on his final tour one night in nashville tn... what a show! now just a few weeks later he is gone forever without warning... its not fair! bye Tom!
mark rush me too .. also at 16 and 43 then last time at 53 last month 😢Wow Classic man , Father , Husband and musician!! Play in Heaven with the other greats 🙌🏼💯
I remember the first song I heard from Tom Petty was free falling, I was 5 years old. I wanted to be the girl who was skateboarding in the video. Lol. Never saw him in concert I would of loved to see him. My dad missed the opportunity this last time that he was at the Hollywood bowl. I had a crush on him when I was younger... silly me. RIP in Tom Petty. We will miss you
Im 63 in 2 days. I love Tom's music. So do my children. They can aing word for word every song on tom pettys greatest hits album. They grew up listening to tom. My oldest daughter cried when tom left us behind.
I know a lot of ppl complain about the audience having their phones out and not enjoying the moment, etc. (which I agree to a certain point) but if this person didn't have their phone out then we wouldn't have this gem. Props to ya for recording and sharing this. RIP Tom Petty
Corey City I agree, I grew up going to concerts where all you had in the air were lighters, but as I never had the opportunity to see Tom, I am thankful to see his show through this person
I had a ticket for this show. I had never seen him at a live performance before. Unfortunately, I was in the hospital this night, due to an infection, so I missed the show. Tom Petty ended up dying in that same hospital a few days later.
Tom, There are so many millions who miss you every day. You were, and still are, a significant part of our lives. This was the 60th time that I had the pleasure of watching you perform. So incredibly sad that we won't get to see you perform again.
I'm still missing Tom Petty to this day. I remember seeing him at The Bridge Benefit Concerts at the Shoreline Ampitheater, at The Gorge, and so many other shows. He was part of a generation of musicians that wrote the music of our times. RIP Tom.
Cissy Brazil The man may not physically be with us anymore, but the music that he made with his friends, is going nowhere. We get to keep that magic. 🌟
Words cannot express how the loss of Tom Petty has affected all his fans. He was a legend. He was fun, he loved his fans. Our generation is losing musicians way too soon. I've never felt so heartbroken over a musician passing as I am feeling with Tom. Rest easy Tom.... You're with some of your Traveling Wilburys band mates now. George Harrison and Roy Orbison. Forever you'll be missed 💔💔💔😥😥😥
L Lindsay, I feel like you too. The death of Tom Petty has hit me like no other musician either. I think, it is because throughout all of my life, Tom Petty's music has been there. I can point to times in my life and I can attach that memory to one of his songs. Throughout my time line, His music was a constant...
My grief is building as time passes. When I first heard I was saddened, in the wake of the Vegas tragedy, but the last few days I'm breaking down more and more, watching this video, reading these comments, hearing songs on the radio. We've lost some big names in the last couple years, all which saddened me but none which hit me like this. Just reflecting back on his music which was always with me throughout the last 4 decades ( I'm 58 ), always quality, soulful. I guess I didn't realize how much he meant to me, cause I'm not a weeper. Hope he knows how much he's loved and appreciated, and how much he'll be missed.
Poor fella, moving around that stage was excruciatingly difficult. How much he adored performing for us. Just love that his last performance, last song was maybe one of the first he and the band laid down. Full circle.
What a way to go. The last song he ever performed, and damn did he ever nail it. Tom Petty was the absolute best in the world, and I’ll never forget him. So much love and joy he spread through his music. I just can’t believe he’s really gone.
Just watched "Running Down A Dream" on Netflix and it really made me realize that this guy really was a stud, and belongs in the same category with the best of em. He stood up to record company's, and anyone when he thought something was BS. I can now totally see why he was so respected by George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and so many rock icons that were the pioneers of rocknroll as we know it. We lost a great man!
That's cool that you met him! I met Jim Ladd at the Fleetwood Mac concert in 97' and he was cool and he told me about all the different rockers he knew and said Petty was one of the coolest and most down to earth, so I believe it. I saw him about 5x but the show I remember most was in the summer of 1988 at the Pacific Amp in Costa Mesa CA. It's too bad that he passed so young and after working so hard for the last 50 years!
Carol LaMontagne yeah a loving warm sharing human being. At first, we were just yakking. I had no idea who he was. I was just standing there, and he walks up So How Ya Doin? in a jovial voice! I had a raging, scorching case of introvert back then. How he got me to talk like we were longtime buddies marvels me to this day.
The best scene in Runnin' Down a Dream, that shows what a genuine, real guy he was, was the argument in the studio with 2 record company guys, who wanted Roger McGuinn to sing a song they had given him. Tom went apeshit, with the classic line "I could smoke a joint and write better than that." And "Are you two getting a kick back for this song?" Tom saw right through them.
I would have killed to see Tom Petty. It sucks being 20 and growing up listening to all the amazing music from the 60s to the 90s. Not not ever being able to see them live.
So there's this- I grew up in the late 70's and was a teenager throughout the early 80's. Just by pure chance, not my choice, I never got to see Tom Petty live. I can, and do feel your pain, I would have loved to see Tom in concert
Tom had a way of making everyone happy with his music. I can't help but think how much pain he was in as he walked limping off the stage but you'd never know it because that is the kind of guy he was, a classy professional. RIP Tom, Your music will last a long long long time......and we will not forget you as we keep Running Down a Dream!
Damn man... you can see how his hip is bothering him. So sad. The pain he put up with... for us. We were so lucky to have him while we did. Miss you Tom.
@@Ettesun ...I feel very fortunate that i saw one of his final shows. I did a painting of Tom Petty years before he passed and i put those tickets on the frame. That's one painting I'll never sell.
So true... for sure he was in pain. You can see a large knee brace on the right side through Tom's jeans. Probably my favorite rocker of all time... RIP and Thanks Tom
My wife and her close friends loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. We did hear Tom play above Charlotte, N. C. for my 60th birthday, thirteen years ago. We had a blast!! 🎶🎸 My wife passed away on October 19, 2017. Tom pre-deceased my wife Beth. We were writing my wife's obit for the paper and someone mentioned that we should add Tom's name to the obit in the pre-deceased list...and we did 🎸🎶😇
It's so poetic Their last song together was the song that made them famous in the first place RIP Mr. Petty May you be dancing with Mary Jane right now
Whoever posted this on RU-vid, I want to say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! This is fantastic. And Tom, wherever you are, I hope you know how much you are loved. RIP
My sentiments exactly! We all have that one Petty song that is connected with one of life's major events. His music has certainly been the soundtrack to the ups and downs that life has dished out.
He sounded fantastic and you could tell it was hard on him to keep the energy going but the music and crowd pushed him! He had true soul. Uncompromising, non-corporate, real! RIP💔
I just can't comprehend this, even after two days it just doesn't seem possible. I keep wanting to wake up from this bad dream. Tom Petty is Rock & Roll. I've been singing "I Won't Back Down" for several months because of a battle I'm enduring it's become my mantra and now it makes me want to win even more! I love you Tom, thanks for the soundtracks of our lives.😥💔💔💔
"god it's so painful when something is so close, and still so far outta reach..." Yes, it is Tom. So very painful to your millions of fans...you'll never know how much you are missed, now more than ever. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.....once and forever, "Our American Boy".
I’ve listened to this man’s words and music since I was 18 years old. When I heard the news, I wept unashamedly. Tears do not come easily to me, but he deserved every one of them. I started collecting his albums as soon as they were released; he was my constant companion. This world, my world, will never be the same. I posted the following words on Facebook that evening ... Thank you, Tom, for sharing your gifts as we each followed the path of our lives, for making it a magnificent, yet all too brief journey ... Thank you, God, for sharing Tom. To those who knew and loved him best, his family and his friends, you have our deepest condolences, as meager as they are, as sadly insufficient as language allows. His was a bright, bold, and beautiful Spirit that will never be forgotten. He always had wings - now they have unfurled and he knows precisely how to fly and is free. Cross over gently to that shining place, where there is no pain, with our gratitude, our many blessings, and yes, our tears, as well. May the sorrow of your passing recede and leave only the most gracious memories behind, the tender mercies and incredible moments of laughter resplendent with joy, all of those precious times of your life among us, such a wonderful and marvelous thing to behold. Your music inspired so much of my own writing over the years; your presence gave us all the courage to reach for the stars. Thank you for Being. While you were here among us, know that you were, indeed, so dearly loved.
Wanda Lea Brayton Very well said!! I feel the same!! We truly loved him an his music..in still cryin when I hear him..he's I Rock n Roll Heaven with all the other greats of our generation...
Same here, I actually did cry (wholeheartedly) for Tom's passing and I can't think of a single other celebrity I did that for. Tom Petty's music has been with me as far back as I can remember. I remember being a little girl and dancing to "Don't Do Me Like That". I can't believe he's gone....:(
It began and ended with his first major hit. Lovely bookends. I'm still quite shocked at his passing. What a great library of music and personality he left behind. Just watched "Videos and Other Stuff" for the first time in around 2 decades. He was hilarious, knowledgeable, and had music like no other. The genuineness of punk rock, the gothic rusticism of American folk, and the neverending spirit of the blues. Rock on, Tom. Godspeed.
I REMEMBER THE CONCERT HE GAVE AT HALF TIME DURING AN NFL GAME WHICH THE ENTIRE STADIUM GAVE THEM A 10 MINUTE STANDING OVATION BRINGING THE BAND TO TEARS. I HAD THE FORTUNE TO SEE HIM YEARS AGO WITH THE ORIGINAL FOUNDING HEARTBREAKERS AFTER HIS LANDMARK.RELEASE OF DAMN THE TORPEDOES. AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME. REST IN PEACE TOM YOUR MUSIC HAS MADE YOU IMMORTAL EVEN IF YOU LEFT THIS NEEDING .. FUCKED UP WORLD WAY TOO SOON. JUST LIKE JOHN LENNON ONCE SAID YEARS BEFORE WE LOST HIM.. MUSIC IS PROBABLY THE MOST ADVANCED FORM OF COMMUNICATIONS CREATED BY THE HUMAN RACE. TOM WAS ONE OF THESE MESSENGERS.. HE NOT ONLY WAS A GIFT TO MUSIC .. HE WAS A GIFT TO US ALL..😢😢😢😢😢😢
Never forgotten!!! Great Celebration for Tom guys 🌟💔 I wish I could have seen you guys more. I saw you all @Sandstone in 97 then twice on the 40 th anniversary St. Louis &KC. I got pic from you in St. Louis. My daughter plays guitar and this Christmas I’m having my tickets and the 40 th Anniversary pic in the middle and some Amazing pics of both concerts . You guys were the best American Rock n Roll band . You all did things with your craft no one could touch. The real deal !! St. Louis was amazing and KC. RIP TomPetty 💔🙏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Tom was in a lot of physical pain, but he couldn't let his fans down. I wish he would have taken better care of himself than he did his fans. Stoic to the very end. Much Love Always Tom.
I was devastated to hear of Tom's passing. He has been an ever present friend for 50 years of my life. Tom didn't often visit the UK in recent years but I was fortunate enough to go to the Isle of Wight Festival in 2012 and London Hyde Park in July 2017 with my whole family where Tom and the guys treated us to a fantastic show along with his Little Sister Stevie Nicks. Miss you like crazy Tom. Keep on Rockin' in Heaven and Thank you so much for the music and your company.
I remember where I was when I heard about his passing. About to go into physical therapy and the radio station has just done "I wont back down" before the news broke. That song still gets me thru physical therapy to this day. Rip Tom you were a legend
RIP Tom Petty. I remember my dad taking me to my very first concert as a young lad and it was ZZ Top opening up for Tom Petty. To this day, it is still one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. A true legend and class act.
the Thank you for 40 yrs - saying goodbye and the thank you poster..wow..and at 5:55 grabbed his heart ..which..well.. Thanks Tom Petty ..you was one of a kind man, a part of my youth..now chipped away :(...
Had the greatest time watching my late wife rock out to her favourite musician! It was a magical show & her smile was brighter than the stage lights! Thank you Tom!!!
First Tom for me was in Seattle July 5th 1981, I was hooked! What an amazing father, performer and person. My children love Tom as well, this warms my heart. I cherish the memories of 30+ live shows. Thank you Tom, thank you. God bless your soul ❤
One of the best there ever was. This is like Elvis dying. His music cut across all boundaries and I bet it's safe to say that every American of every age group knows at least 5 of his songs by heart. What a career and what a life.
I'm almost 69 years old and I said there is just one more person I want to see in concert and that was Tom Petty. Unfortunately it will never happen now. I can and will still enjoy his music though.
Hips can be replaced as an outpatient. Him staying on tour was Bullshit. He could have fixed the hip and gone right out. But no he didn't. As a former opioid user he wanted to stay on tour so he could have oxy and fentanyl. His Fucking doctors should have said NO!!!! Fix the hip. Get off the dope. But no he stayed on tour for the fans. Bullshit. He died in the dumbest way. From Fucking drugs. I'm Pissed at petty and his doctors. So Fucking dumb.
Never having been to any concert and Tom performing where I live I was broke and thought I'll attend the next one. Saw some of the songs performed on an instagram live feed. I'll never get over his sudden passing, the man wrote songs that speak louder than we deserved. A with an open heart, guitar, pen and paper wrote the soundtrack to many lives including mine.
My husband and I fell in love listening to Tom Petty's songs... This was such a shock, and my heart is broken. Thank you Tom for leaving us the gift of your legendary music.
I haven't been able to even click on this video until now. Tom's loss hit hard. I mean really hard. His voice was the first one I heard singing rock and roll music. The fact he is gone and I won't ever see him perform in person bothers the hell out of me. Rest in Peace Tom. 💔🎸
Same, I was brought up on Tom petty since I was a toddler. He was a huge role model to me growing up. And it’s still unreal to think he’s gone. RIP Tom, never to be forgotten, a true legend
Me either, today was the first time I did, and than there’s the ahole trashing him on here, really pissed me off, and normally I would’ve ignored it, but couldn’t today .
I can’t watch this because we have lost the most under rated performer, singer, songwriters we have ever seen in the music world.....God Bless, Tom Petty..!
@@tfcompleteprivate6312 you know, it means he was even better that the credit he was given, right? You do understand the term and how it was used in my post? Right? Your not some stupid person just looking for an argument, right?
Not looking for argument at all. TP in rated top 10 singer/ songwriters of all time....IMHO. I dont think he is underrated at all. Hes highly regarded. when Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynn, Bob dylan, and George Harrison invite you to be in a band with them....I think you are held in high regard. Thats all..peace!
In 2017, When Tom Petty passed away. I couldnt accept another great one in RocknRoll gone on. Finally listened to his last song today January 4, 2021. RIP Tom Petty🎸🥰💖Thankyou for thé music that will live on forever💫🎸💖🌠🙏🎤🙏💞❤️💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
3 yrs Tom & Gregg Allman died, hard to believe. Now that Ive had a yr of severe back pain I realize how brave he & Gregg were touring with health problems. We were blessed. Thank you. 💜
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers music was healing to me, in a time so painful in my life, what a privilege to listen to Tom Perry's music, what a talented man!! Heartbroken over his death.
To me as well.. His music, and the concert he put on for us back in 1989, shined light into a very dark place in my life. I had the honor of seeing him 5 times in total. I had hoped for a 6th, but wasn't meant to be...
What a great way to go out, thanks everyone for forty years of a great time, sings An American Girl and then says GOD bless you, goodnight. I am forever grateful for one of the best American Rock Bands ever. RIP Tom Petty, your music lives on forever.
I was in the 8th grade when the Beatles came on the Ed Sullivan show and they ignited my love of rock music. Even now when I am 70, still love it and it's so much better than the processed slick pop that's popular now. I think that in America, our best singer/songwriters in the field of classic rock are John Fogerty and Tom Petty. I could listen to them all day, every day and not get tired at all. I still remember how sad and sorry I was when I heard Tom Petty had died. RIP Tom.
514 dislikes? This is such an classic tune. May I also say that he had a broken hip and emphysema at the time he was doing this song. We lost a great artist!
I'm nearly 60 & still gigging regularly & I'll tell you this, it hurts & a long show really takes it out of you whether you're in a stadium or a bar. Poor Tom, he's suffering here & really needed to be off the road.
Very few artists in any genre of music have the opportunity to finish 40 years of work on top of their game as Petty was here. It was a fitting end for a great artist. He will be missed but not forgotten as long as rock is remembered.
Tears streaming down my face watching this, seeing he is in pain but has a smile on his face giving it his all to his fans and sharing his amazing talent and passion. Thank you Tom for making us feel alive in your songs. You will continue to live in us through your music. Rest in peace beautiful man.
Frank Castle yes I know. But you are saying petty’s death wasn’t deserved and that you expected Dylan to die first. Were you implying that Dylan deserved to die?
“We’re almost out of time, we got time for this one here.” And then he goes on to play one of his most iconic songs, the last song from his first album. His death was a tragedy, but it’s hard to think of a better way to end his last concert.
After the last song in Milwaukee , after the last show at Summerfest, after the final bow, Tom saw a sign I was holding up, nothing fancy. It said "Hey Tom , Can I Please have a pick?." He reached in his pockets and gave me a sorry gesture. He didn't have any. He walked back to the drum riser and grabbed some. He walked yp to the edge of the edge of the stage and tossed them towards me. I caught 2 and left the rest for others. What a show, what a thrill and what a memory! I'll miss Tom forever. RIP Great music never dies!
I was there on that lovely Monday evening - sitting up a lot higher. Who would have thought this would be his last song in concert. My first Petty concert was in '79 - Damn the Torpedoes tour - This will be my last but was lucky enough to share the night with my 13 year old son. Thanks for posting the up-close view. R.I.P. Tom.
Charley and Hattie Webb hugging each other at the end of the song. A thrill ride they’ll never forget, nor will Juniper Wren, Charlie’s little girl who went on the tour.
Saw Petty a few times when I was younger and so was he, in Philadelphia where I lived when I was younger. Been a drummer since the age of five, sixty now, and of all my idols who passed over the years, I can honestly say, I miss Tom Petty more every day as if he was family.
