This video will compare the top 15 countries by population from 1800 to 2100 (historic and projection). Some countries may appear before they gained independence since this video compares countries based on modern day regions.
Hope everyone enjoys this new video! Keep in mind, a projection might not forecast the future exactly, but it details a trend that the population of the countries might follow.

Fun Fact: Until 1947, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were a single British colony. After 1947, it split into India and Pakistan (West & East). In 1971, Bangladesh was liberated.
I don't think Nigeria and most African countries can sustain 200-500mln+ population even in the future, there is no soil and technology avaible to do soo in Africa. India population will start collapsing faster.
Nigeria is way to small and can not sustain 800 mil people, tbh that's just bull. They apply Birthrates of now and just push them through the years and it makes no sense.
@@Mike-fn4ti And? what you are saying is really stupid you know that? they have half of country is soil that can't do shit, and 800 mln is nearly like whole Europe population, There is no way.
This whole thing was bogus in many ways... there should have been a huge drop in population 1932-33 due to the holodomor in Ukraine. The other problem is using modern borders, when for much of this time, Germany had much more extensive borders.
Ukraine also didn't exist as a country until after the USSR break-up. The lands that make it up today were mostly part of the Russian Empire, and then USSR.
There's not enough land to fit that many people 🤣 I mean, you could just keep stacking people on top of each other in sky scrapers but still... People would be miserable.
For everyone confused about the whole countries not existing thing: It simply shows the people that lived in those modern-day borders, disregarding their existence. Hope this helped Edit: it might also be because there isn’t enough data from specific countries, like the Mughals and whatnot, whereas the soviets have plenty of data
besides, the work that would have to go into doing all those changes is just too much. its much easier to look at data for countries hat exist now. also, ill bet half of those countries from the 1800s have no data on population growth
This includes just modern day regions because in 1800 Italy and Germany didnt exist and its appears in the chart you think that just the south Ásia region didnt get the justice.
@@worldnews5114 the problem is we migrated a lot back and forth so no one can properly calculate it.... Then after 1947 there was a massive migration spree due to the formation of Pakistan.... The Brits took census pertaining to each district and the count always varied significantly because of constant back and forth migration within the subcontinent... We have been doing that for centuries...
Germany and France were equal in 1850, but Germany had nearly doubled France leading up to WWI. I'm sure that's partly due to unification, but also a huge disparity in industrialization and population growth.
Yes, indeed. The difference between Germany's population growth and France's population growth was due partly to "a huge disparity [ . . . ] in population growth." Did you mean something more like birth rates, death rates, infant mortality rates, emigration and immigration rates?
Yeah because France ended its demographics transition first in Europe. While it was the most populated until Napoléon, the growth rate started to decline after. Leading to a transfer of power in Europe from France to Germany.
Thats why France wanted a second war with Germany after 1871 as soon as possible. Germany outgrew France by such a huge amount, they feared facing 80 million germans vs 40 million french in a war. And it had nothing to do with unification! The french ppl just didnt make kids whereas the germans did.
The difference was between a religious people in German who bred and a secular society which stagnated, France. If industrialization was the factor, the whole urbanization effect would have seen birth rates plummet. And this chart doesnt take into account that roughly 2/3rds of Germans left Germany between 1800 and 1900 to the new world, Hungary and the Ukraine. Texas, Mexico, and Argentina were all massive receivers of Germany immigrants.
@@worndown8280 2/3rds what are you talking about? Between 1820 and 1928 5.9 million germans migrated to America. Dont talk about things you dont know about. German people were also not religious! France was the only country that stagnated at that time period. That was a pure french problem.
Hi, thanks for the video. Could you please tell me how the changes over year can be shown in this dynamic way? What tool did you use if you dont mind to tell me? Thanks!
Some notes I took : • China's population has increased rapidly, even though they had 1-child policy. •It would be interesting to witness UK and Commonwealth countries population together. • Turkey/ Ottoman Empire isn't mentioned even once.
Now China have 3-children policy to fight against ageing population, but few of them are having children Most people are scared by the brutal policy before
Why are so many commenters incapable of reading the description? "This video will compare the top 15 countries by population from 1800 to 2100 (historic and projection). Some countries may appear before they gained independence since this video compares countries based on modern day regions." Ta-da! An answer to your question about why some countries are "on here" before they actually existed.
They did that except for Russia. When the USSR replaces Russia there's a big jump in population, then when the USSR breaks up there's a big drop in population.
Population is power if maintained properly. In the projected population you can see India going backward in numbers around 2080, that means a large chunk of old people will pass away who are in their 20-40s right now. But for the whole worlds population to sustain, 7 billion is less number compared to total land mass. So I hope humanity comes together to start space travel for masses.
@@searchingforlostatoms7191 to sustain human life, we are hardly just an unlucky asteroid away from extinction. we need to start working on The Great Expansion.
This is confusing. Germany wasn’t a country during most of the 1800’s, neither was Pakistan, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Italy or Poland. And the same goes for Nigeria and Uganda.
I think they took the german regions into consideration and not x kingdoms, principalities and shit :3 "Some countries may appear before they gained independence since this video compares countries based on modern day regions."
Probably because the population boom was the invention of the K fertilizer by the Germans back in 1861, when it was widely used, the population boom happened.
The same question about former colonies. What are they doing there? This doesn’t make sense P.S. How could they count Poland’s population if it was separated between 3 different countries?
@@0813MICHAEL 120 million? More like 220 million. Bangladesh is 1/10th the size of Nigeria with 175 million and there farming isn't super sophisticated.
It helps to be consistent, may be. If according to author data is based on the modern day regions, what is Soviet Union doing there? If not, why Ukraine is in 1800?
Love this presentation. It's made of current linear informations but some needs to have turning point. It's weird to see Nigeria reaching 700 millions in such size of land and resource. Russia would have more fertility rate caused by muslim's successful expansion and influx immigration into the vast land once it was tundra getting warmer every year.
While it's indeed weird, many predictions are currently projecting such a number as Nigeria's future population. That would basically mean it would be a heck lot more dense in Nigeria in the near future (disregarding the quality of life, it'd most likely be possible (yes, I'm looking at you HK, Monaco, and other densely populated microstates/regions).
I know it’s just projections from 2021-2100 and anything can happen in that time. But, it’s a wild thought that Nigeria may overtake China in population one day and China may dip below a billion people. Population growth in Africa is insane as well.
China as a society is very flexible. They may collectively decide to have more children with the aid of the state... This might seem impossible in other places but not in China.
@@RankingCharts but do they subtract those from the areas they were apart of? Like dis "Germany" lose silesia or did that just belong to Poland on this chart?
@@jonnyspanish2122 well yeah but not that only there are so many things, politics, economy, and many other things within individual countries and the world.
I'd like to see one of these that projects into the future that does NOT use the highly optimistic 2005 projections. Since 2013, the estimates for world pop in 2100 is 11 to 13 billion. Assuming no crash from overpopulation of course...
@@kairon5249 Well, it seems to me that the Soviet Union is at 291M in 1990 and suddenly, it becomes Russia at 148M in 1991. Why not apply the same logic?
@@kairon5249 That Should give all the more reasons to show the population of the French empire in 1810. France already existed as a republic since 1792. In 1810, most of modern Italian territories were part of France, not even considered as vassal territories. Same thing with the German Reich. Why not incorporate the population of the annexed countries in 1944? They weren't existing as separate entities anymore. I think the animation would have been more fun and informative if those historical events had been visible, like it is with the soviet union. Germany should have become the 3rd Reich, grow it's population like crazy and abruptly disappear when losing all annexed territories and being separated in East-Germany and West-Germany and then coming back up in 1990 when reunified as Germany. Again, why do it with USSR and not the other countries?
I am a foreigner living in China. In recent years, population is becoming a problem in China. In 2020 and 21, the country saw the lowest birth rate per a year. They are afraid to not having enough young population to support elderly in the future. Although one child policy is lifted, and now can have up to 3, people still either prefer to be single or just having one child.
No country has ever had a demographic period of growth that even comes close to Rivaling 19th century America. To go from 4 million to 76 million in that century (where growth was not as high as the 20th) is breathtaking.
@@ktkof04 Thanks Captain obvious. But that doesn't take away the fact that the US did in fact grow at a ridiculous pace. New York City was as big in 1900 as the US was at independence. Even if you exclude all the land take from the natives by the US the east coast alone saw populations rise at an unprecedented rate. Displacing natives on the other hand sadly had a long precedent.
It's because of the founding principles being very different from contemporary governments of its time (look across the globe & see all the "Kingdom of __X__" or "__Y__ Empire," combined with its immigration policies. Ever since then it has maintained a steady growth rate with those things still in mind.
Problem here. You have nation that didn’t exist. When I first looked at the graphs on another post something was missing. It looks like I was right. Liberties taken. Data used are variable on subjective opinion. United Kingdom didn’t exist till Northern Ireland was created. Probably the last time I will watch your post.
The video description says that nations are based on modern day regions. And the UK came into existence in 1801. It was amended in 1922 when the Irish Republic left, but the UK was created via the Act Of Union 1801.
If Chin’s population growth fell so rapidly, they would definitely suffer more than just losses from birthrates. Starvation would be a huge issue that could lead into even larger problems due to the economic fallout
Before the American Revolution, when tension between Britain and the Thirteen Colonies was growing, Benjamin Franklin argued to the British, even in testimony before Parliament, that it was foolish to ignore the colonists' desire for fair representation in government, because it wouldn't be long before the population of the Colonies surpassed that of the British Isles. The British monarch and Parliament ignored the warning; lost the Colonies; and in less than two hundred years saw their nation surpassed in military, economic, intellectual, and soft power by the United States. Population isn't the whole picture, but it's a part that mustn't be ignored.
@@joj4096 Palawan, Davao and Batangas have high rates of deforestation. Manila metro will also expand in the coming years due to overpopulation and poor infrastructure- causing more pollution. Nothing done about poverty rates either which is sad.
The world's population has to curb at some point, whether it does through self-realisation of non-sustainability or through poverty is up to us. But it will happen.
It will. At the end of this century. Ever noticed how all projected population charts end at the year 2100? It's because that is when the population will start to drop as the quality of life in the rapidly industrialising developing world will mean the birth rates drop and families will go from having 7 kids to probably 1 or 2. This is what happens when the quality of life is higher. Was the same thing that happened in Europe in the past and the same will eventually happen in Asia and Africa. Trouble is the profits of doom can't exploit that fact. The Earth's population will eventually reduce and remain stable at between 1.5 to 2 billion.
