Hello, I am one of these people! My parents refused to use my chosen name or pronouns. I was unwillingly forced back into the closet until I moved out. It didn't kill me to be closeted, but I'm so much more at peace after GC surgery and hormones. I feel like my body is mine at all times. I recognize myself in the mirror, instead of feeling like it's someone else I see. It's nice.

@@PansyPopsthere is also a issue with incarceration still where trans population is more targeted for prosecution and then denied treatment in jail plus face the bigotry from other inmates inside. After you get out I can imagine (particularly if you're still under supervision like probation) having lost a lot of progress by being denied their care and seeing how unsafe being identified as a trans person can be in a worse case situation would impact you trying to continue care right then. 😢 not sure making people targets of unimaginable never ending bullying and abuse is so hard to understand why they might reach a point where they break and try to conform to end the targeting by a entire society 😢 I will always support my trans brothers and sisters (and embies) as I'm a 37yr old lesbian and it was made very clear to me in my youth that my existence was frowned upon and that a large group didn't want me to have equal rights either that hasn't really changed they are just moving to a precived easier target and if they get what they want to force our tran family out of rights of any kind or safty of any kind they wouldn't stop there 😢 I can't understand any LGBTQ community members who are helping with the anti-trans propaganda it is unimaginable to me.

Fr. I'd say in most cases they were failed by the medical system. They need to be assessed for other issues first I went to therapy for many things, trauma as a child, anxiety, anger issues, depression and adhd all separate times. It was when I finally had my realization after I learned what Trans people were was when I fell into a deep depression and had to get emergency therapy to figure out what was going on. And that's when I was able to be open an honest with a therapist about how I felt about myself. I wasn't able to be treated in that small conservative town but I was lucky to have had a very good therapist. For me specifically when I became an adult and moved it only took 3 months to get on T, so I was fairly lucky. However, every step after that has been extremely difficult. I am happy with myself regardless.

I used to identify as trans when I was so insanely depressed. I know now I was confusing body dysmorphia with body dysphoria, but at the time it seemed like the answer to all my problems. I was so unhappy and constantly felt like I was questioning my gender because it didn’t feel right, and no wonder it didn’t because I’m not trans. I don’t look back at that time in my life with any sort of anger or anything, and I’m nothing but supportive of the community, but it definitely did solidify my belief in trans people and that there’s literally no way they could be faking because I tried and I was miserable EDIT: for the people asking in the replies if I’m in a better place I’m glad to say I am!! I detransitioned (socially) in my early twenties. Back then (late 90s/ early 2000s) one had to live as their gender while seeing a therapist for two years before one could start hrt. Nothing was covered by insurance either, and there was no gofundme and the like. Because of a lack of money, and lack of awareness, I detransitioned. God... it is just, WILD, that so many transphobes are like "this young person got surgery TOO YOUNG! That means its the transes fault!" instead of going "hey, maybe we should investigate and look into these doctors who are prescribing medications so quickly and also performing surgery after one appointment." But no, it's easier to blame a boogeyman, of sorts, than actually tackling the real issue.
@dragonwolfzero820

The amount of doctors just collecting a paycheck is insanely and horrifically common. It's not surprising that some detransitioners are victims of this. However, there are more medical and mental issues being misdiagnosed and mistreated. I had medicines after medicines thrown at me for anxiety, one damaged my brain. Then many medicines thrown at me for my adhd, but I decided enough was enough and I didn't need medicine for those things when I realized I was just being used for the profit of medicine companies. I've had a legitimate DOCTOR look at an injured hip Xray, tell me nothing was wrong. Meanwhile I couldn't do sports for 2 months while it healed. Now if I go from doing months if physical activity to less activity that hip will get sore and have massive pains that can't be stretched out unless I'm laying down and in the right position. I know this will likely end in a hip replacement at old age but what can I do when doctors don't listen bc you're young and able?

it looks to me as if much of this detransitioning is untreated depression and anxiety, ideally the depression and dysphoria would be addressed at the same time so that the mental health issues would not get mixed up with transitioning, then, when the depression is addressed they can affirm their trans status with confidence the USA needs comprehensive healthcare to assure that trans and other LGBTQAI people are loved, accepted and affirmed.

The first detransitioner in this movie seems to have a skewed definition of grooming, as they seem to have the opinion that they were "groomed" by internet content that they chose. That's not grooming, that's a person misunderstanding the information that they chose to seek out.

Seriously tho Every kid has a different level of awareness and comprehension The statements "Every kid knows who they are you should listen" and "kids are too young to know who they are" Neither one of those statements is completely 100% true or false. That's their only rhetorical tactic, lying to push a narrative. They will use a one in a million example for why something should be outlawed, but then gladly tell the one in a hundred person that they've stripped rights from that they're doing what's best for everyone. We have to outlaw hormone blockers because a few people have had horrible side effects like osteoporosis (ignoring the fact that they weren't keeping up with the recurring testing you're supposed to have after taking something that has rare but serious side effects) but women who want contraception (either temporary or permanent) can't get it because some people who get those treatments have regretted it while loudly ignoring the fact that there's a shocking number of women who can literally die if they get pregnant and women (and men) who just simply do not want kids currently or even ever (like myself, I would make a horrible parent and have no desire to attempt).

Sad thing is, that as of the end of Sept 2023, Daisy is probably still trans, publicly tweeting: "I don't want people to think that just because I've detransitioned and chosen a more traditional path, I am now cured. I still deal with self-loathing. I'm still sick of being me. I'm still depressed. I'm still a miserable wretched sinner. The mental ailments that led me to transition still plague me today. I still fantasize about being a guy at least a few times a week. I'm often a guy in my dreams. But now I know I can't indulge in those fantasies. I have to be the best wife/mother I can be. Jesus Crist is my only hope. He is your only hope too" On Twitter, someone linked a podcast she had made right before she detransitioned, where she spoke about her struggles being a man. How she was struggling changing her learned social female behavior into what she perceived would be more manly social behaviors. There is also a lot in there about the beginnings of religious indoctrination, a bunch of "God made me this way, and I cannot change it" sort of talk, though I don't think she ever said that directly, just a bunch of talking around it. Also, a bunch of fear of transphobia being directed at her. There was also a hint of non-acceptance from her parents. At the time, she was struggling with her identity, and it seems like a lot of anti-trans and religious rhetoric filled that void. One of his tweets from 2022 stating: "When I lived as a trans woman, I was still a man, I was just a man who believed lies. So no trans women are not women, they are men. Just confused men who need actual help." I'm sure that the corrective r* and the threat of losing family has nothing to do with his choice to detransition /s. I would just caution us to not invalidate detransitioners. (These two people are pretty extreme examples with documented histories and current social media that definitely generates some questions. But generally speaking and even for them.) I can't prove I'm trans and a guy. There is no blood test, brain scan, or even psychological survey that anyone can point to and say, "Yep, confirmed: 100% man, certified trans!" All I have is the fact that I say I am. And we all agree that that is valid. In my own opinion we are hurting our own cause if we start to pick apart and question the stated gender of detransitioners. Absolutely, claims about how long it took them to receive HRT/surgeries, how they were "impressed" into thinking they were trans, and even their hind sight motivations on why they believed they were trans. I think those are areas open to scrutiny. But questioning their current gender, even if it seems clear that at some level they are actually trans... I don't see that as helpful. Detransitioners are a tiny minority and ones who detransitioned because they aren't trans and willing to be anti-trans is an even more miniscule number. Saying, "Not really a detransitioner," sounds an awful lot like, "Not really trans." And pretty much as easy to prove or disprove.

Yeah I kept thinking about this when they used "radical masectomy" as a term for masculinisation masectomy ( obviously the wrong way to write it I'm sorry). Masculinisation masectomies are masectomies, but they aren't used for (non trans) medical purposes. Radical masectomies is the name for the removal of all breast tissue for cancer or other diseases that attack tissue not for gender affirming surgeries. Banning all hormones would be bad because so many cis people also need it to have a comfortable life. Same with most other things that seem purely for trans Healthcare. Also yeah the other commenter is brainwashed, I hope they come around to be a better person in the future.
@deanderson

it's worth noting, when these gender critical/whatever people frame top surgery as a "radical mastectomy," they are using incorrect language. A radical mastectomy is what is given to breast cancer patients and it removes *all* tissue. But these people think "radical" is code for "extreme, out there" kind of talk, not a specific term with a specific meaning. Trans masculine people do not get radical mastectomies. We get masculinizing mastectomies. It's different.

Trans guy here. To be clear a "radical mastectomy" isn't the generic term for mastectomy for reasons of cancer. It's a specific procedure that includes removal of chest muscle and lymph nodes. These are _exceedingly_ rare these days with advancements in other cancer treatments. The reality is that most trans men have more breast tissue and fat removed during top surgery than is common in cancer related mastectomies. Currently, for cancer the goal is now "tissue conserving" options that allow women to retain as much chest as possible. Kind of the opposite of what most trans men are seeking. Pre top surgery I had a very large chest. Technically my procedure was a double incision double mastectomy. My scars extend from a centimeter from the center of my chest, under my arm pits and you can actually see the tail ends from behind if I have my arms out. Many trans men have mastectomies at least as or even more extreme than what cis women have for cancer treatment. Because the goals are virtually opposite. Cis women to retain as much tissue as possible and trans men to remove as much as possible. I understand that we have to battle over how these trans surgeries are portrayed. Mutilation, disfiguring, removing healthy tissue etc are all disgusting and inaccurate. But I don't think it is helpful on the flip side to downplay the reality of what is done or imply that it is less "extreme" than other mastectomies. I literally have 2 feet of scars across my chest, of which I am proud and don't seek to hide in any way. But shirtless, I'm walking evidence that top surgery can absolutely be a very intense and extreme procedure. (Note that this is not the case for all trans masc people. It comes down to factors such as age, skin elasticity, chest size, weight, how much reduction is desired etc. But double incision double mastectomies are not uncommon for trans guys.)

look, I hear you. Your all saying pretty accurate things. Over sharing time! I used to be a soprano before puberty hit, I miss it so very very much. Honestly though, Im not sure what I could have done to not have this problem because even female puberty changes your voice. Like, what, would I have been allowed to just never go through sexual puberty? Honestly that would have been the closest to what I desperately want, yet in many ways not at all what I want. Honestly if I could have had a “designer puberty” I would have. Like I don’t want to be undeveloped but I wish most of my body didn’t go through puberty, either of them. @IsaacMyers1 I'm AFAB but largely agree with you about puberty. It sucked but the opposite sex one wouldn't have sucked any less. Tbh the only thing I'm not mad about is my voice. And yeah, female puberty supposedly changes it because most adult women don't sound like kids, but for me it's less that I started to sound like a grown woman and more... before puberty I sounded like a 9 or 10 year old girl, now as an adult I sound like a little boy that age. I'm regularly mistaken for a child over the phone. And it seems like training/therapy for that isn't a viable solution, since most of it assumes your starting point is a voice impacted by testosterone puberty and your goal is to sound like a young woman, but tbh I just want to sound more mature. My mum has one of those voices that's definitely in a female range in person, but could be mistaken for a guy over the phone or in certain tones of voice at low volumes, and I wouldn't be mad if that's what I'd ended up with, but it isn't. I want to know what went wrong, because 99.9 percent of cis women (or trans girls who manage to avoid male puberty) end up sounding somewhere between a stereotypical teenage girl and the kind of voice my mum has, so my question is, if no woman ever talks about that requiring any special effort, then what barely and privately spoken things did I miss because my mum's less feminine and fussy about gender presentation and perception than I am and I had no other adult women in my life beyond schoolteacher levels of familiarity, and if there aren't any of those "girl secrets you gotta learn from an aunt or older sister" involved, then what medical abnormalities did my doctor not catch?

When people say "children/minors aren't getting surgeries", opponents will often point to a few statistics or anecdotes of minors who were counted among those who got surgery, but when you look deeper into those cases, they look like the example you gave. If you're a doctor who has a patient with clinically-diagnosed dysphoria with their breasts AND breast cancer, you have two choices: 1) Remove the entire breasts and risk the person regretting the removal of everything, or 2) Remove the single breast or all the breast tissue with the cancer, and leave the other one intact, despite knowing this person will then have to have another invasive surgery down the road with additional risks if they want the other breast/tissue removed. Even without cancer, breast reduction and removal is generally common for cis girls who are minors when the breasts are seen as health risk in other ways, like with chronic back pain and such. The more surgery you get in the same area, the higher the risk of other complications, so you want to take care of as much as possible in one go. Stopping these surgeries would do far more harm than good overall.

What my take-away ftom this documentary is that, firstly, be open and honest with the medical professionals. They are not mindreaders. Misdiagnoses happen in all fields of medicine, and often they happen because the information given to the medical team was insufficient. Obviously, it is the job of the medical staff to know what to ask to get the information they need, but mistakes are occationally made. Secondly, how about making sure there is enough fact-based information available online by healthcare providers, so the only way to figure out you're trans is not tumblr? What many governments are doing by taking away sex ed from schools, or making it strictly cis/het focused, banning lgbtq books and removing any information about lgbtq+ matters from official sources, is forcing people to find their information from youtube and tumblr. We could have kids asking about these things from their teachers, school nurses and such, but they can't. This it's why it's super important to have this information available and easily accessible. Thirdly, affordable healthcare is crucial. If things went the way these detransitioners described, it sounds like their treatment wasn't exactly according to the recommended guidelines. There are and always will be those doctors who, for the right fee, do what you ask, whether it was the best choice or not. You can get a bottom or a top surgery from a back-alley surgeon, but it can also go wrong. Making these treatments accessible and affordable through public healthcare reduces the risk of someone getting these treatments when they really need some other kind of help. Finally, and this kind of goes with the book ban thing. That woman who thought he was a man would have benefitted from trying doing drag. The more the society tries to push the queer community and queer culture under the rug, the more confusion and suffering will occur. When you are feeling like you are wrong the way you are, you obviously try to find a way to leviate that feeling. If we treated people with kindness rather than control, maybe there'd be fewer misdiagnoses made, and happier people on earth.

Really love this comment. Something I would add. (But not as critique, just adding.) Phobes act like just believing a patient about their medical needs is somehow extreme. But we do this all the time. Almost no psychological condition has a physical test. I go to my doctor and say I'm depressed, she doesn't order a brain scan. She asks me questions, maybe gets me to complete a survey. In essence, I just tell her how I'm feeling and she diagnoses me and prescribes treatment if appropriate. She is counting on me telling the truth. If I go in seeking meds and lie/mislead/insinuate things, no one should blame her for a misdiagnosis and/or inappropriate treatment. An issue in the trans community is people researching the "correct" answers to ensure they get the care they need. This is a lot due to medical systems having ridiculous, not based upon evidence, criteria for who gets treatment and who doesn't. Add in years or even decades long wait lists and you get trans people doing unwise (but understandable) things. To be clear, I don't blame trans people for doing that. I'm very privileged that where I live and the doctors I work with use informed consent and basically trusted me when I said I'm trans. But with excessive gatekeeping comes lies and a culture that actively encourages and rewards people who say what they need to to get care, even if it's not fully true. Sucks for trans people and for the non-trans people who get unnecessary gender care because they can easily find the "right" things to say.

I hate it when people say that kids consuming lgbtq+ content will make them gay or trans. When I first learned that lgbtq+ even existed (maybe 12 or 13), I just thought it was interesting, but thought I was still my assigned gender at birth. I didn't "become" agender because I watched videos or scrolled online. I found out I was agender because I felt extremely uncomfortable being called by certain pronouns and because I just didn't feel comfortable trying to fit into the gender my parents wanted me to be. Just because a child consumes content about a certain thing, that doesn't mean they're going to do or follow said thing! It depends on the place, laws, and even the individual. I live in BC Canada and started to transition at age 45. Our single payer health care system covers many gender affirming options and my clinic works under the informed consent model for adults. And the reality is that at 45 I was basically treated with the attitude that as a grown ass adult, I can do what I want as long as I can even vaguely justify the choice. Any wait times I had were due to demand (lack of doctors), not anything systemically and artificially put into place. All that said I am privileged to be working with a progressive clinic in a liberal city of a fairly pro-trans province in a trans supportive country. A lot of really awesome boxes checked for me. The other one transitionned for some years, took HRT, stopped HRT and is ok about being a feminin man. The last one, never seen a psychologist (and not for finiancial reasons), managed to find estrogen on the black market and transitionned right away. Many people told them that it might be a good idea to also see a psychologist, but they never did and almost to a point that we were accused of trying to gatekeep. I personnaly knew that persone and there a much darker layers to everything other than just the gender dysphoria ... Edit: also trying to cite mental illness and block people with mental illness from transitioning is so harmful. I also am bipolar, I came out as trans 8 years before I first got an episode and diagnosed. After that it was horribly hard to get care, I kept getting blocked and strung along by the military to the point where I just thought of ending it all, when I got my separation date about a year later, the thing that saved me WAS informed consent. I was able to get hrt and top surgery after they asked about my mental health, if I was being cared for, how long I’ve socially transitioned ect. And the doc didn’t invalid or ignore me, he listened and was able to get me a quick date due to a cancelation and I got a loan and got my surgery. It’s been 8 months, I actually like living, I feel happy and stable, and it blows my mind that cis people feel this way from the jump and take it for granted. If I wanted a boob job I wouldn’t have to jump through all these hoops, if I wanted a bbl I wouldn’t either, but when it comes to actual care that’s between ME AND MY DOCTOR suddenly everyone wants a fucking say

Also, I'm kinda pissed at Praeger exploiting detransitioners, who have a double-hard row to hoe, and reducing my ability to sympathize with their experiences and see what solidarity we do/still have by using them to slap the rest of the trans community with. Detransitioners may not be trans, but they've surely earned a place in our community on their very bodies -- twice. I resent being painted as their enemy rather than their support. Anyway, don't know if I can make it through the rest of this documentary (and your commentary) rn, since it's stressing me out after only 6 minutes, but good on you, Jamie, for getting it done and getting it uploaded👍🏾🙂💛.

@@woofie3917 ikr? I'm starting with top surgery myself, and it's taken a year and a half to get to the (possible) last round of psychological 'investigation' (for lack of a better term) before the actual surgical consultations even begin (so let's assume another 6 months to actual surgery). And then 6 months maybe after that before I can begin HRT. And I'm in Europe, where this is not so obstacle-laden as in the U.S. So yeah, I respect the hell out of detransitioners, because we all know that transitioning at all is intense, both physically and psychologically. Going through that, then admitting to oneself -- and everyone else -- that it was not what one wanted/needed, and furthermore making any effort possible to reverse the procedures.... that takes a level of mental fortitude of which I stand in awe, tbh. These Praeger U f****ers have no right or business to treat these heroes of bodily autonomy as pitiable victims. Yes, many or all may have been victimized during their transition and/or detransition. But being victimized is not the same as being a victim, and anyone who stands up and affirms their true self, even when it makes one look "stupid", even when it means the conservatives will use you as a poster child against the rest of the community, even when it means even more years of struggle, procedures, and cost to achieve.... anyone who puts themselves through that is no victim, and is surely my sibling-in-arms, no matter what conservatives say.

The reality is that the care detransitioners need, such as surgery and hormones (if they no longer produce the ones aligned with their sex) is the same care that trans people are fighting for. I read an article a while back (sorry, can't remember where) basically discussing the fact that places which limit gender affirming care also make it more difficult for detransitioners to access that care. Because regardless of whether you are trans or a detransitioner, you need gender affirming care. Same thing, different sides of the coin.

I saw some of Daisy's videos both pre and immediately post detransition. The language she used then was very different than what she expresses in this PragerU doc. So two options, she is either lying now or was lying then. I lean towards the former. In her earliest detrans vids there appeared to be two main motivations for detransitioning. One was religiosity. She began to feel that being trans was against God's desire for her. And the second, which honestly seemed a bigger concern, was that she wasn't passing as a guy even after several years of hormones. She appeared genuinely distressed that she wasn't and likely would never pass as a cis man and be able to go stealth. And that is a reasonable if not easily addressed disappointment that many trans people experience. The only even vaguely valid criticism that she had for the trans community (IMHO at least) is that very typically, binarily passing trans people tend to get the spotlight. And being really attractive and young also helps. It gives the impression that anyone, with HRT and some surgery, will be able to pass and that's just not the reality. But that criticism applies really to all of society. The impression that with the perfect diet, supplement, exercise, makeup and clothes, you too can look like a supermodel.

It's also very irritating (and please understand I'm not irritated at you, in fact I agree with your statements and only mean to add my comment to yours) that there's still such a focus on "passing" as a requirement, or even a necessary goal, for trans people. This both makes things more difficult and hurtful for those who can't access things that will help them pass (including compression/shapewear, HRT, and surgeries), but it also negatively affects those trans people who don't *want* those things, whether they are nonbinary or one of the "binary" genders. If society accepted that being a trans person didn't have to mean passing (or looking androgynous, which is sort of the nonbinary analog), a lot more people would be free to consider what they want their transition to look like, including which medical procedures, if any, they want to pursue.

@@Petrichor_Pyroclast Yep, 200%! Passing and stealth are such weird topics to discuss. Ambivalent is a massive understatement for my personal feelings on it. I will likely never 100% pass due to a variety of factors including age I started HRT (45) and a fundamentally fem physiology both body and face. I used to struggle with the knowledge that I wouldn't ever pass and now, 3 years later, I struggle with guilt for part of me wanting to pass. Over and over I see trans people saying things like, "Oh wow! You look fantastic. You _totally_ pass! ... Not that you have to of course. Nobody should be required to." It's this weird tension between societal expectations of what we "should" be playing against what we actually are and what we really want for society.

That is highly unusual to have so much tooth decay. Here are some tips: As a former dental hygienist, I suggest: 1. use toothpaste with fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel. 2. Get a new, soft toothbrush each month. They don't last longer to do a good job. 3. Review proper flossing technique with your dentist. Use unwaxed floss, it works better. 4. Brush first, then floss within 15 minutes after every meal or snack. 5. Stop eating sugar and refined carbs...they create more plaque on teeth. 6. Don't eat between meals. 7. Stop drinking sodas, with or without sugar. They are highly acidic and dissolve tooth enamel. If you don't believe it, soak a chicken bone in CocaCola overnight & see how rubbery it gets. 8. Get a dental exam & x-rays every 6 months. Good luck!

Also, hold up. When she said the line about someone who is 12 becoming infertile later in life because they "blocked their puberty", that isn't a thing right? The medical sources I've read on the subject indicate that the reason puberty blockers are perscribed is because they are reversible when you stop taking them (they were initially used for cis kids with early onset puberty). Is this a real complication or is she taking a leap or extending the logic beyond just puberty blockers here?
@Snuzzled
@Snuzzled 4 месяца назад
It's not a thing. If someone never goes through their natal puberty (eg, goes on blockers at tanner stage 1 or 2 and then goes straight to HRT) they may be infertile as their gametes never were allowed to fully develop. However, this can be alleviated by allowing their natal puberty to go on to a later stage to allow their gametes to develop for storage, and is something doctors and families discuss in the process of care.
@Rupert3434
@Rupert3434 4 месяца назад
@@Snuzzled I figured as much! So basically the only way puberty blockers could make someone infertile would be if they didn't do basic care. Sounds less like a risk of blockers and more like a thing that could only happen with malpractice being involved.
@SarastistheSerpent
@SarastistheSerpent 4 месяца назад
It may depend on the medication, but yeah, generally it’s not a thing. I am not trans, but was on a puberty blocker for adrenal hyperplasia as a kid, and I’m perfectly fertile now as an adult. As a rule puberty blockers don’t make you infertile, at least not once you’re off them.
@Snuzzled
@Snuzzled 4 месяца назад
@@Rupert3434 Kind of. Basically it's not the blockers themselves causing infertility, what causes infertility is not allowing the body to get to the point where fertility develops. And once you miss that window (which is a fairly large window of several years) that's it, unfortunately. Blockers are involved in that delay, but they don't in and of themselves cause infertility because they are only used for a few years and they are fully reversible. What causes infertility is going on to HRT without allowing fertility to develop first, because eg an amab child whose body doesn't get the testosterone it needs to develop spěrm won't develop them. But if she goes off blockers, her body will resume producing testosterone. If she goes straight onto HRT though, she won't. It's deliberately misleading, like saying "Dihydrogen monoxide is a byproduct of nuclear waste." Well, yes it is, but it's water. Water isn't inherently good or bad, it doesn't inherently do harm. Puberty blockers don't inherently cause infertility, because plenty of people use them for various things and don't become infertile. But some trans youth have such severe dysphoria that the side effects from allowing their puberty to continue to the stage at which gametes can be harvested would cause them debilitating distress, and it isn't worth the tradeoff. Which is something they discuss with their family and medical team, who together decide what to do. Puberty blockers are part of a care plan that can cause infertility. But it isn't an inevitable consequence of their use, and not all trans children go through that care plan. Most are encouraged to allow some amount of pubertal development, for fertility reasons as well as (in the case of trans girls) some pubertal development will help them have more options for bottom surgery in the future, if they choose to have that surgery as adults. I hope that makes sense.

Also they clearly said they were in therapy, had previously seen doctor, and explicitly went to their treatment provider and asked them to transition when they already had a diagnosis and were in therapy... that's not just walking in off the street and having a single appointment at the appointment you don't even ask for lower surgery and boom you get a letter saying you can have lower surgery just because you said you might be trans you didn't know. I'm Agender and went through natal AFAB puberty. I have to bind daily / near daily to alleviate the chest dysphoria and skip the inactive BC pills for months to not have the horrific organ shedding. Puberty blockers would have saved me from this dysphoric nightmare. Top surgery will likely always be out of my reach because that costs thousands I don't have, and sterilisation? Won't happen until I'm 30+, with 2 kids, and my partners approval. So, never. Hiding trans kids from trans knowledge won't make it go away. I remember telling my sister at 12 I wanted a hysterectomy. I would always be hunched over to hide or try to hide my chest. I knew I wasn't supposed to be female long before I had words to describe it.

I disagree Jamie with your analogy about comparing knee operations to gender re assignment surgery. The documentary is pushing a strong narrative with negative language in places (not disputing that), however, in knee operations, that operation going wrong doesn't mean the patient never should have had it in the first place. You mentioned yourself, there's no actual test that can definitively prove whether someone is trans or not. So the fact these detransitioners transitioned by getting a life changing surgery when they never should have done this in the first place is extremely dangerous and can irreperably scar them physically and emotionally. I don't believe in banning trans health care at all, but I think people need to fully discuss the ramifications of life changing surgeries and how dangerous it can be when people go through transition who never should have done it in the first place. It really isn't as simple as, "this scan shows you have knee issues, you need an operation."

One of my best friends has been stalled in their transition for almost twenty years because they were told they needed to work on mental health issues before moving to the next stages. This is a grown adult who has gone through this so I refuse to believe that children are being thrown into surgery because it’s easier than dealing with mental health issues.

Intersex children are being thrown into surgery, and nearly every time, the surgeon removes the wrong organs. Meanwhile, trans kids aren't even allowed non-surgical methods of transitioning, because apparently changing clothes and getting a haircut is bad now.

what would they prefer? 1% regret transitioning? or 100% regretting letting their kid commit suicide

Unfortunately they'd probably choose the suicide option. Or at least having. Trans people wiped off the face of the earth because they can't stand our existence.

I have a cousin who went into counseling due to wanting to transition. The counseling revealed that the desire to "change gender" was due to a fear of abandonment because my cousin was adopted, with no contact, because of their birth gender. Once that fear was addressed, the desire to transition went away too. My sister's childhood friend was adopted in a surprisingly similar way, also wished to transition, and was asked the same questions. He did transition and is quite happy. So, it's really important that counselors take the time to look at each individual case. What is right for my sister's friend should not be judged by what is right for my cousin, and the opposite is also true.

The part where the woman talks about Layla Jane, misrepresented and twisted the story to make it sound as if it was over a short period of time and just a few appointments until they gave Layla top surgery. When in reality, she started identifying as FTM when she was 11, got put on puberty blockers at 12, and then at 13 (after 2 full years of identifying as trans FTM) went to that "short 2 hour appointment" that "green lighted" her for top surgery...

When daisy detransitioned I doubted my gender for a second bc I related SO much to all of her videos about being trans (which I watched as a teen years ago). It was very clear she felt trans or wanted to be trans from what she was sharing in her videos. And then started making conservative Christian content..... sometimes I think the right wing indoctrination is more powerful than the "grooming" (or whatever) they claim is happening to trans kids!! So disappointed to see she did something so directly harmful to the trans community. Whatever, hope she knows she helped me be trans lolllllllllll
