Travel Nurse Contract Cancelled?! What You NEED To Do NOW! 

Absolutely not. Whenever I travelled as a Nurse, I made them set me up with a place to stay. They want to play the ol' bait & switch, nope, I'll just go home. Here in the Pacific Northwest, they are always desperate for Nurses. Made sure to stay out of debt and paid cash for our property. For a while, I worked the bare minimum needed to get get by and still save over half our income. Which was working just one day (16 hrs) a week. Granted, the pay was lower than what it would have been if I was travelling, but they still kept me on the same schedule. In California, the overtime laws are different than anywhere else. 0-8 hours in a day was regular pay, 8-12 hrs in a day was time and a half, 12+ hours in a day was double time. This isn't charity work, I expect to be paid if I'm away from home. If I wasn't travelling, I'd only work double shifts. Why? Because at the end of my day I knew I was going home and wouldn't be mandated to stay. Don't call me on any of my 6 days off either, under no circumstances would I be picking up hours. Been in the game for way to long to fall for any of the shenanigans. This may sound rude, abrasive or even downright selfish. IDGAF. Set up our financials to get to this point. After years of being beat over the head with one messed up situation after another we can leave any job without care. We could live for years off of savings without working. Recruiters call and email all the time trying to get me to pick up an assignment. But if it's not top pay with housing included, forget it, next. Come to think of it, Nursing may have turned me a little salty. lol VT247

My contract at Morton plant in Clearwater Florida was cancelled few days before starting. My lease said I lose a month deposit ( 800) if for any reason I drop my lease. Morton plant would not pay for that non refundable deposit. AYA did after I signed the next contract and started. So far I have not seen the switch and bait thing. I’m in radiology though. The contract I have now I absolutely hate. I wouldn’t mind if they did the bait and switch for this contract because I am beyond ready to leave and I only been there a month. So far I’m seeing some pretty high contracts but I’m seeing quite a bit of low paying ones that just aren’t worth it with the housing cost. The housing is beyond ridiculous right now. I’m currently in an air bnb that is 1800 a month and no wash or dryer and not in a safe area. The last place I lived was 1500 and I had to use the upstairs wash and dryer that was beyond a pain to carry all the heavy laundry up and down 500 steps and I always had to park around the corner down the block. I have the most awful luck with housing and I’m finding it pretty difficult for anyone to accept a cat that I am traveling with. I plan on traveling abojt a year longer then get out of radiology for good. I hate working in radiology but traveling is letting me pay double mortgage payments. I paid my car off. But it’s exhausting. I’m ready to get out of heajyhcare

got to assignment, was there for a month, everything was going great, but out of nowhere, the contract got ended. My direct manager didn't know, it was a corporate action. Stay alert and flexible nurses.

Some people don’t know that it’s actually their agency & not the hospital making the request. Another reason they don’t like disclosing your bill rate. The hospital still pays the bill rate of X dollars. It never changes. But by you signing a new contract, your agency gets to keep more money for profit margins. They do this because they have less nurses on assignments which means they are also making less. This is a tactic by the agency & not always the hospital.

Become an independent agency nurse to get the full bill rate. I know people that did that and double their income.

You signed a contract. Its binding. I did agency for 8 years and contracted for most of it. You sign with a Hospital, Nursing home, etc its a binding contract and wage PERIOD

With an estimated 500,000 Greencards for foreign nurses, seems like this gravy train is about to really start coming to an end. Healthcare is changing, travel nurses need to be prepared for a new hustle soon.

Don’t accept contract-the hospital is using your good will-no other profession would be asked to work for less in a needed environment, I don’t think the administrators at this hospital is being asked to work for less-just my 3 cents 😊

I drove from WI to North Carolina for a Nursing Contract. They canceled my contract literally days before starting. What are my options :( I signed a 3 month lease here. I am with supplemental healthcare. Can I ask for a policy regarding this or.....thanks! :(

That should be ‘Breach of Contract’-it is with other professions. Why does this only affects nurses-could never get away with that with construction workers at the hospitals or travel doctors. As for their excuse of Post covid rates, nope, these rates are 2015 rates-what about rates reflecting inflation, as it is with target, McDonald’s etc getting up to 22 bucks hourly because of inflation-just annoyed 🥸
