I just wanted to share that today I went out to run errands, and a gorgeous, incredibly well-put-together woman stopped to compliment my skin. This may sound ridiculous to some, however until very recently it was my most significant insecurity. I am covered in painful psoriasis, which a stranger would never know, and really struggled with acne scarring, sun damage due to a lack of education a few year's ago when beginning to use actives, and mental health issues as a result. My skin is completely transformed now, and Tretinoin has done the heavy lifting (sunscreen too). I learned of the importance of SPF directly from Andrea two year's ago, and have since ensured my kid's have basic routines implemented. All that to say, thank you sincerely.

Been using Retin A since about 23 yrs of age and now 38. I stopped during my 3 pregnancies but always resumed after breastfeeding. My last pregnancy at 35 was really stressful and I got my first wrinkle on my forehead and was shocked to see it disappear after resuming retin a. I don’t even know how long it took before it went away but the fact that it did speaks to how good this stuff is. And I don’t use it for anti aging. I use it for acne. And in general I don’t think I look anywhere close to almost being 40.

While I overall enjoy his videos and overall find them helpful, I feel his coverage into so many areas leaves him pretty much an interpreter of studies, rather than an expert in those areas and I often feel that his agenda to push a plant based diet, w no supplements skews the way he presents info. I’m not sure if it causes death, but after using tretinoin for many years it started causing me severe headaches, neck pain/stiffness and back pain….I’ve tried many times and yes, it is caused by the tretinoin…even retinol after a week or so. So I’ve given up on using it. I use peptides, glycolic acid, and all the other things. Hydration, ceramides, and peptides and have made my skin look pretty good. I feel healthier not using tretinoin. @@Bea_Rosy I like that Dr Natalia Spierings helps people with being more critical in what they need, what actually works or not, not wasting money. However with some things I find her conclusions quite unscientific. Like collagen powder or retinol "are a complete waste of time and money". I agree that the studies on collagen have not a good enough study setup, the quality of the studies is not good enough. But then the correct conclusion in my opinion should be that its uncertain wether it works, not claiming that is a complete waste of time and money, that's something you don't know with the data we now have. Retinol the same, there are uncertainties for sure, but it's far more likely that it does work than that it doesn't. Labmuffin did a good video on this recently. Or her idea that cosmetic ingredients can't do anything, since they are regulated as cosmetics. I mean just because an ingredient is regulated as a cosmetic, doesn't automatically mean the ingredient only does what the rule specifies it to do. That is not how cosmetic ingredient regulation works. Labmuffin also did a good video on this recently. Her ideas about sunscreens in her book are also very not up to date and her reasoning about product pricing is also inaccurate, I feel she definitely needs to collaborate more with cosmetic chemists and cosmetic regulators, since she does speak out about those topics but apparently is missing the knowledge in these fields.

There is fluouracil cream prescribed specifically for skin cancers that some patients take home (they must be compliant and diligent at using it correctly.) It will burn the cancer off (in place of having a doctor laser or burn it off.) When it comes to tretinoin for skin cancer prevention, I don't know that this would be a good idea. I had thought this briefly, but when you read about how it works and what genes it targets, it would not help with keratoses. When it comes to cancer you don't want to help it make new, you want to end it. Not sure if that makes sense

I find it irresponsible to dismiss a study which finds a 50% increase chance of dying in the tretinoin group. A lot of people here are giving anecdotes - but just because it is not harmful to you, it doesn’t mean it won’t be for others. For example, most people aren’t allergic to peanuts - but for some, ingesting a small amount can be deadly (e.g. anaphylactic shock). It is no surprise that the body degrades faster with age. Comparing this study with other ones which are observing younger people is not really relevant. What would truly be relevant is looking at how those young people’s health evolves when they’re in their 70s if they keep using tretinoin. Of course, those who die can’t really come back and tell the cautionary tale. Also, the study looks at men, so mortality might also be linked to the way in which men particularly metabolize the absorbed tretinoin. Furthermore, as the doctor suggests, the mortality might also be linked to other behaviors, such as smoking. Again, it’s incredibly important to use this study as a “watch out, if you smoke, tretinoin might have grave side effects”. Yes, we don’t really know what caused the tretinoin group elderly men to die. But for the reasons mentioned above, dismissing this fact as a coincidence, especially when there’s is just a 1% chance of this statistically being a coincidence (as the study mentions), is gravely irresponsible.

I find that Dr. Gregor often cherry-picks biased data to make him and his theories look credible. As a nutritionist, I don't recommend a vegan diet for menstruating women. As for Retinoids, I've been using them for years, and I'm fine; I get bloodwork often. And I do not smoke or drink alcohol. I did try a vegan diet for two years, and I became severely iron deficient, had terrible acne and was bloated and miserable. I also developed severe PMS and hormonal imbalances. According to my bloodwork, I was unhealthier as a vegan than a meat-eater and I ate the "right" foods (beans, nuts, veg, etc). Some people don't tolerate eating anything but beans, nuts and vegetables as those foods can cause more inflammation than a diet containing meat (gut health is better with meat for me). I thrive on meat, collagen and Retin-A. Guilt and shame-free :) Thanks Dr Dray.

I think that anything we put in or on our bodies has the potential to affect us systemically in negative and or positive ways. While tretinoin may be generally recognized as safe and well tolerated by the general public, I think there are people, like myself who experience bad side effects from it. Every time I have tried tretinoin or retinol, even at lower strengths, I have had side effects of depression and some muscle pain. I found out from my doctor that I am a slow metabolizer, so it seems my body is really good at holding on to chemicals or ingredients that it comes into contact with, which can cause a build up and the I get symptoms from having an excess of that material. To summarize- even if it works for many there could be a small percentage of people who will experience negative effects. Edit: Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A. Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin, so the body will hold on to it longer; and there are side effects to having too much vitamin A in the system such as depression etc.

I've been using tretinoin for 5 years now, I started when I was 20. I've have noticed that irritation starts when you reached the point when your skin is starting to dry, It begins to itch and sting also some redness. But after adding and mixing Hyaluronic Acid, I noticed that I am no longer irritated, and my face is plumped when I wake up. The only skin Care I use is Tretinoin, Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide. I only wash my face with soap and some cleanser after. And ( I don't have an acne, I just use it) I believe they are banning it because it is easily misused especially if you don't know how to use it. People should watch these doctor created videos as well as listen to and learn from their experiences in order to avoid the negative side effects. Tretinoin is a great product, my mom has started using it as well after she sees me using it. Also avoid sunlight. well as an Asian Sun bating culture is not really a thing, we try to avoid sun as much as possible especially 9am-3pm, whenever we come out we always bring umbrella or protective clothes. And what I also noticed is that sunscreen is starting to be a thing right know, but to be honest I don't use them, I just try to avoid the sun. morning exposure to sunlight is enough 6am-8am. I believe too much is bad, moderation and consistency is the key.
