More rebuilding on my early Spitfire differential. I have the pinion height figured out. That gear mesh patter, though, not so much.
Still more to come!

Wow what a work effort. Congratulations. No formula to determine how much shim thickness makes it a real guessing game. Leave it to the Brits. Chris, thanks for posting your work. Cheers

Thanks, Robert. At least I learned something! And now messing with my new OD, I'm learning even more. Definitely some interesting design decisions. Some, one would think, are more complicated than alternatives at use at the time.

This type of mechanical work can be tedious. Great follow through. You are increasing your skillsets. The time to learn is always a valuable investment. GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT. Be good. Remain safe. Go out and have a Deluxe week!

Tedious for sure. I'll keep at it, though. Thanks!

BTW. I'm always anxious to learn new skillsets whenever possible. I personally feel a great deal of satisfaction. The first bew experience always takes patience and far more time rhan expected. Perseverance and patience. I know how frustrating it can be. There are times I walk away and come back another day. Be good. Remain safe. Enjoy another Deluxe day!

@@matthewharlowehrscyclespor668Thanks, Matthew. I'm with you on learning new stuff. I started breaking into the overdrive that I just acquired. What an interesting design! Videos coming on that eventually.

Your detailed work will be worth it in the end I'm sure. It's a lot to comprehend but you seem to understand it well!

Good job tackling a tough job. Keep on measuring and fiddling with it and you'll get there.

You are a whole lot braver than I am! I did my own transmission and gearbox, but the rear end a heck of a lot of trial and error. Good job.

Thanks, Mark. Unfortunately, the gear mesh pattern is still not right. But, I'll keep trying!

Interesting stuff really, I like the math and the precision of it, but huge pita to have to keep taking it back apart and putting it back together again.

Yup, agreed. Still don't have it right, even with the measurements that I have now, which should be near perfect. Definitely painful.

I wish I could have known you were going to be doing this. I would have told you to be sure and get the pinion lined up first before adjusting them ring gear onto the differential. It would have saved you some headaches.

Thanks, Mike. No worries. At the end of the day, I actually enjoy figuring out that I'm all messed up. I think it makes for a more impactful learning experience and enhances my understanding of how it all works. I'm not there yet with the diff (spoiler, I've got the pinion height just right and still have a bad contact pattern), but that's all part of the experience. I am pulling apart an overdrive...any lessons there? Thanks!
