UF8 Logic Pro Install & Set-up 

To anyone who is thinking of buying two units: I noticed that the video didn't mention to change "Fader Bank Offset" from "0" to "8" for the second unit (Mackie Control Extender) otherwise the second unit will mirror the first unit in Logic Pro. Would save me a lot of headaches if I knew beforehand 🙂

I just got my UF8 and have it running with a UC1 - wow these are seriously impressive. This setup video was INCREDIBLY helpful. Super intuitive systems - I’m LOVING using them.

Very nice SSL! I can imagine a additional Master Section Module with a master fader, a proper transport section, assignable knobs, a jog/shuttle encoder, buttons for punch in and out, cut/copy/paste, plugin selection and so on. Imagine two of the fader modules with a master module. That would be great. Keep going SSL.

This is one BRILLIANT tutorial and helped me to figure out why Bank buttons were not working. For some reason when i connected the unit, Logic auto added 3 more extenders? Removed them and now the bank buttons work as they should. Thanks SSL - Great video.

Great video, and great product, I bought two. But I want those blue lights like yours. Please get that updated in the next version. The boot up colors are great but that's the only time you see them.

This looks cool and I wish I could get into using a controller... but I tried several times with several consoles and iPad remote, and since I still need to use mouse for a lot of stuff anyway all these controllers were more of a hassle than they were a benefit in the end. I would just do the job much faster and easier using mouse and keyboard shortcuts. That being said, it is a great feeling to move physical faders and knobs for sure.

I was lost but hopefully this tip will help others....Select Port 5 for MIDI input and Output. Not Port 1. I was using Layer 2 and this gave me a slight headache but 360 app explains this after poking around.

Small note: If you use multiple DAW's and Logic is e.g. NOT on layer one, the SSL V Midi port channels will be DIFFERENT than 1. In my case, Logic is DAW2 so the ports I needed to use were 5 and 6 (I have 2 UF8 and 1 UF1). In 360 software when selecting the layer, then the port, it tells you what the proper ports actually are. Just a tip.

I watched this and read the reviews and have bought one. It looks lovely. And it works really nicely. An added benefit of the layers (that I hoped for but couldn't find mentioned) and seems to work (so far) is that you can set up two layers for your main DAW (mine is Logic) and switch between them. Adding 43 new soft keys for that DAW. So, I think I have 129 soft keys that I can programme for Logic. Should be enough!

I got an UF8 a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful piece of gear. I have one not so minor problem, though. As soon as I turn on my UF8 my internet connection shuts down. I use Fritz!Box' Powerline, so it's probably some kind of electrical interference, but I haven't found a way to fix this problem, yet.

I would like to see what this can do with Ableton Live?

Friends - for those of you who have tried this out. How do we feel this being a day to day must have in LPX? I tried the Softube and Presonus stuff, but felt that they get a bit in the way. It wasn't fully hands on, still needed mouse and keyboard quite a bit - so it became more work. But that might just have been me and my unorganized, semi ADHD ways of dealing with things. I currently use Maschine MK3 as a controller (it is already here, and not in the way) and it works well (transport, rotary knobs, automation, and gorgeous 2x LED meter displays). That is not something I planned, but it works as an additional feature.

In the "Going Deeper" chapter is it possible to have more than 8 parameters learned? I don't think I can switch to another parameter bank. Still, this is super cool if you want to get hands on with just a few parameters organized the way you want them!

From where it takes the order of the channels, arrange or mixer page? In logic we can’t re-arrange the mixer order of channels or busses, and some times the pages are different.

I concur a center transport and jog wheel is needed

Does the focus of the channel works in every plug in? Or only on ssl plugins? That is one of the functions that would make me buy it actually. If i can control my nativee instrumen😢ts plug ins with it is a bought piece

How come the DAW does not follow/scroll with the Channel encoder selection? :(

Do you have to “bank around” to get to the right track though? Will the controller auto highlight/focus the track based on daw selection? Eg I have a template with 500 tracks. If you have to navigate by bank up/down then massive “no” for me

Is there a way to show the name of the send destination in UF8's screen instead of "Send 1"? For example, if my track's Send 1 goes to HALL, can I get UF8 to show "HALL" instead?

Lovely controller overall. However I am hoping there could be a few fixes with firmware updates in the future: - Make the font size able to be customized, and also since there appears to be plenty of space on the higher resolution LCD displays, the readout of every channel or parameter should either be able to line-break or scroll (like a news ticker). The current design with the large font which gets truncated or abbreviated beyond 6 characters makes it impossible to read almost anything. For example the instrument & EQ modes suggested in this video at 17:30 and 18:15 are practically useless to scroll through, especially on an EQ plugin, where all the names are so truncated that you can hardly tell what they are. At that point I might as well go back to mousing around since this takes way longer to decipher and a lot of times actually impossible - stuff like VeVoPr and BrBrcV 😵‍💫 - Speaking of deciphering, at least with logic the short names and instrument plugin names don't appear to be used. Instead they say stuff like Ins1Pl and Send1Mu. WTF? Would make more sense if they were called what they are called in Logic. - On a similar note, it would be great if we could somehow customize the look of channels - background colors would be fantastic. Most of us color code our instruments and groups, so it would be much more helpful to see as you scroll all your drums, guitars, vocals etc., without having to slow down to read the names. Since these screens are LCDs and have color on them, I know it's possible. Or perhaps color coding the track names. Hell, even icons or something could be helpful. - Also with the screens, the meter readout could be more useful - showing us numbers and a DB value maybe. Rather than having to switch to track > volume to see db values, it would make more sense to see it right next to the meters. I understand the screen real estate for each channel is limited but there's gotta be a better way to do that. - The numbers on the left-hand side under send/plugin should be able to push to select. Currently, you have to go over to the scroll/paginate buttons on the bottom right of the controller, which is less intuitive and more tedious. - For the keys which are not used in Logic and the layer keys for separate daws, it would be nicer to be able to override this customization as additional quick keys.

at 24:10 how do you happen to know that shift plus pan gives you a user mode 2?..trying to find it in the manual, cant see it..thx

Not too shabby but a tad disappointing. What exactly is being offered here that sets this apart from say, an X-Touch or the ICON QCon Pro G2?

If the price is the same as an avid s1, why shouldn’t I just get those? I mean, those have more versatility. iPad remote control, the ability to connect up to 4 of them, plus a dock, for spill mode, magnetically, separate tablet screens for each one, making them look like a mini S6 setup, plus do much more I do not work for avid, but I’ve been looking at these controllers for a while, and still see those, unfortunately, as the best built, and most versatile, next to an actual mixing board or mixing desk. Basically, please tell me why yours should be considered over theirs.

Hard to imagine that would ever be intuitive

Great video. However one slight error I noticed (I think) with the SSL V Midi Ports set up section. If you only choose Port 1 source then you can only controller one fader at a time. So if you want to change the volume on multiple faders simultaneously, then you need to add more ports here.

Why isn't there a Master Fader? I was looking at getting this until I noticed only 8 faders...bummer '

The price is a bit expensive, this should have been a 16 channel UF16 and sold for $799.99 -- The design I like a lot, but that's my opinion I don't know about other people. :)

These steps don't work on current Logic or Pro Tools.

I dont get it - for the same price I can get Faderport 16 with twice as many faders with the exact same functionallity ... what am I missing?

I would like to put this thing to sleep at least. Don't want to pull cables or install a foot switch liek in the 1970ies to cut power. IS there at least a sleep feature - for environmental reasons / green footprint , at least.

Why not press the SEND plug ins buttons directly - rather than navigating with arrow keys. I have never seen any demo where people press these buttons?
