Outstanding video. After reading the SSL Pro Tools documentation, I found that this video answered some of the questions that I couldn’t quit find in the written documentation. Please make more videos, perhaps specific “tips and tricks “ for working with each major DAW or “common problems/pitfalls and how to fix/avoid them”, etc. Thank you for making the absolute best physical automated fader controller for Pro Tools that is currently on the market in this price point.
Corresponded with Decksaver a month ago about deck saver covers, who replied they will be available this winter for UD8 and UC1! I'll cop 'em, because I protect all of my equipment
It admittedly does a number of cool and useful things, but what I think it's a major overlook is the lack of a dedicated transport section. I'd happily loose some customizable function keys (like the quick copy paste editing, for which you'll better off using mouse and keyboard) for a play/stop/Rec set of keys down at the bottom of the frame. Using the top row switches as alternate transport keys at the top is nowhere as quick or as convenient as having a set of dedicated buttons in the right location. Bummer, still I may try one and see how I like the faders and usability.
I just bought one and after using it for an entire mixing session, I agree it would be a nice addition, but in no way is that a deal breaker for how awesome this controller is. Perhaps in a future firmware/software update, they could add an additional “mode” to the cursor key section to transform those keys into the “major” transport functions (and make the assignments editable in the 360 software).
@@EnochAttey thanks! In one of the updates last year they actually added that functionality! So now the cursor controls have 2 modes. Such a great piece of equipment.
How Is The Responsiveness With USB A??? Thank You! UPDATE: I JUST GOT MY UF8 it seems to be working fine with USB-C to USB-A Cable, BUT I Am NOT Able To See PLUG-IN Parameters ? Could That Be Because Of The USB-A?
@SSLvideos the Nudge function doesn't work for me with the channel encoder, nothing happens when trying to move a clip. I can't figure out why, any idea ?? Anyone ? Thanks :)
Strangely; I've had the UF8 & UC1 set up on another system running Monterey and everything worked great. I moved them both to another room with the same OS on a different machine & some things don't seem to work. I can't get the BANK button to bank through tracks, I can't get the TRANSPORT window in 360 to become active using PT 2022 or Logic. - I've installed & re-installed. Still not working. No information anywhere about the issue either. VERY frustrating!
After changing the peripherals setting exactly as shown and hitting ‘okay’ I get a pop up that says “Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power-cycle HUI and check its connections. Note, if HUI in not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings”. What does this mean and how do I fix it??
I Just got my UF8! - How do I troubleshoot for NOT being able to see plug-in parameters in plug-in mode? I have follow the video I do not see any parameters for my avid plug-ins, WAVES, SLATE, Plug-in Alliance, etc. absolutely no plug-in parameters are mapped no parameters are controllable???
Just did a video on control surface support for luna on my channel, give it a go if you're curious. Just got a UF8 too - so I'll be doing more videos on the UF8 & Luna Specifically.
Curious, can we still use our EuCon based hardware with a UF8, or like my Nucleus do I need to 'Ensure that the Enable EUCON option is unticked to enable metering on the console surface'. Or maybe because the UF8 is not Ethernet-based as is the EuCon Protocol maybe this poses no problem.
Dunno if you ever got an answer, but I just found out you do have to have Enable EUCON unticked to get metering on the UF8. Apparently it's a Pro Tools bug that affects all HUI devices.
Maybe I missed it, but is there a possibility to make a custom layer of faders? Say I want to have channel 1 in the DAW on fader 1 of the UF8 and channel 10 in the DAW on fader 2 of the UF8. Is this possible?
It doesn’t currently support that functionality. Your best bet is to organize your channels in a logical grouping. OR - I am not sure what DAW you are using, however, in Pro Tools, if you group a set of tracks (say drums) into a “routing folder” and assign the output of each contained track to the “routing folder” bus, then you get some awesome advantages. When the folder is “expanded” and you bank (or select) these tracks to be controlled by the UF8, you get control over the Routing Folder bus as well as each track in the folder. Then if you “close” the folder, the UF8 hides those tracks (leaving the routing folder track) and brings the next set of tracks (to the right of the folder) into control. Once you have your levels set for the “contained tracks”, then you can just ride the fader of the “routing folder track”, add automation to it, etc. I have found this extremely useful, hope this helps.
Good alternative: Focus Mode for the large encoder on the right - hold your mouse over the controller/parameter you'd like to edit and do so using the encoder.
@@marcelschechter that is one of the major selling points for me for this controller. As Pro Tools isn’t providing new functionality to HUI protocol and they can’t guarantee plug-in creators will add support for it. This feature gets you around all that, because let’s be honest, no matter what “controller” you use, you still need your mouse!
Icon Qcon pro had this tech first wich i own and it comes with 3 extenders for 32 tracks , give them their props ssl ! dont act like yall came up with this first!
DO NOT waste your money on a second UF8. You'll still have only 8 channels as the second unit will not sync and display tracks 9 through 16. As a guy who worked on a SSL desk back in the 80's when these guys were just starting out, I'm very disappointed to say the least.
Hi Jeff, just come across your post and wonder if this issue has been resolved in anyway? I've just purchased a 2nd unit to do just this, visually see 16 track faders and work them. After playing around for a few hours I still cannot work this one out. This is the only mention of this by yourself that this cannot be done. However don't you think that SSL is kinda falsely advertising the fact that 4 units can be strapped together giving us a massive 32 track setup? What is the point in piggy backing these units up with each other other than to do nothing what's so ever. Any help on the subject Jeff or if you can point me in any direction as to discuss this I would greatly appreciate....John
I've just purchased one of these, and am totally lost as to why the Send/Plugin functions work this easily for Pro Tools but not for Logic- which has a very strange and backwards way of going about this. The Send/Plugin buttons and the Channel button do NOTHING in Logic on this unit, and I'm completely stumped as to why that is. Any explanation? Any chance this workflow could be integrated with Logic in this same way? I see no reason why it shouldn't.
Hi Max, I've noticed this issue when audio during fast forward/rewind is enabled, if it is maybe try to disable it ? I have a problem with the channel encoder too, nothing happens in Nudge mode when I try to move a clip, can't figure out why...
I have the UF8 and I’m using Protools. I’m unable to write/record automation on the UF8 using the faders. The faders on the UF8 are linked to the faders in Protools but it’s not writing the automation. Can someone help me out?
did you find a solution for your problem ? I am thinking of buying it but I had another controller that had issue s too working in harmony with pro tools so it was not useful if this one has issue s too I need to look else where so I would love to hear what your thoughts are on this blessings
Why not just make a Fader pack( 8 channels) instead of purchasing the ENTIRE unit.. Also, there needs to be a Master section with Talk-Back.. , a link to control Sigma.
J'arrives à enregistrer une piste avec mon micro podcast ; Impossible de l'entendre sur Pro Tools pour le corriger, pourtant une fois enregistrer en fichier sur mon bureau je peux l'écouter.
@@AndrewMasters 😂😂😂😂😂 Yooo bro! you caught here admiring more gear! I mean I have the Console 1s but this looks amazing! I can control any plugin parameters with these...take my money already! you getting one?
It says a lot when you check the comment sections of a company demoing their product and you see it they don't answer a single questions the users are asking. It makes you realized that this company doesn't care too much about their users or potential clients.
