I just wanna say that I was really into DIY electric skateboards 5 or so years ago, and pretty much stayed with my boards until I got the urge to build a one wheel now. The community at that time was really not great, one person saying his stuff was the best, you are a really cool guy, showing off your awesome work and also linking other other’s people nice work.

I personally prefer a balance only option since I have little faith in anything "smart" with the BMS's currently. Much rather the VESC manage over/under current where I can and have a fuse if I must in case of a short before the VESC. That little unreleased unit looks promising 👀 I've bought a VESC conversion that didn't feature a BMS and I nearly screamed when I dug deeper. Planning on performing dark magic to convert it back to a stock board (I can hear the mobs forming already lol). I have the controller, just need to reattach the ports and jam a flashed BMS back in to bring the lil Pint back to life. Then... Ima give it PintX range 😈

Man, you do excellent work! I'm currently gathering parts and info to VESC my own XR. Mostly, I'm looking to get more range and torque. How is the range with that 20s2p P28A pack? I'd love to maintain the stock box, but the massive range increase of an 18s2p 50S me4t pack is really enticing. Your store appears to be sold out of everything, are you still making packs for sale? Safety of my family is top priority, and your attention to detail and skilled craftsmanship would give me peace of mind having one of these plugged in inside my home. Thank you for taking time to put these videos out, top notch content!

Thanks for the video! Not knowing where to get a good 20s battery that fits was one of the things holding me back from VESC, so I guess here we go! This pack is going to have less range than some of the over-stuffed ones... since VESC doesn't prevent it, do you see any problem with charge-and-ride with this setup for longer rides? (Aside from dangling cables and a risk of crashing with a plug in the charge port.)

Thank you Mario for this vid🤙 currently on an adventure of swapping a little focker in my pint and I need a new BMS. How could I go around and charge my battery without a BMS? Also what BMS has that connector that the pack has I haven't see a single one that has it. Would I be able to split the pack into different sets of cells and use multiple balance leads so I can connect it to my hobby charger? Like could I bulk charge and top off the battery with a rc charger? I'm willing to rip my pack open and solder some balence leads to it idk just putting ideas because these other BMS options are pricy

I am making DIY one wheel with a VESC using the original one wheel pint BMS and a chi battery systems battery. I have run into a problem where it seems like the BMS wont allow for power to pass through to the main electronics. I'm thinking it is because the BMS doesn't have anything telling it that the board is on. What modifications do I make for it to think it is on?

Thanks for the videos Mario. With FM doing what they're doing i think many will be turning to vesc. Question, is there a battery harness already set up for use with a zmbs and one of your packs? I know you made your own but is there one on the market already? And or would you be open to making me one when i get my 20s from you.

What happens at the charger connector once the battery is connected to it? I believe you get power in its pins as current doesn't care what direction it should be flowing. If that is so, shouldn't I use a diode after the charge connector and if so what type of diode?

I’ve gotta battery question: a CBXR. Bought it last year right before I tore my knee up. Been in a box since. I just got around to installing it. Let it charge/be on the charger for a couple days. What’s recommended discharge for first time use? I’ve read I should discharge it to 1% for the first time. Is this accurate? If not, what’s the best procedure? And in general, best procedure for taking care of it?

Hey Mario, thank u 4 the great videos! I got what I think it's a simple question, but navigate all these custom OW info is quite hard 4 me... I have a stock XR, HW 4212 SW 4155 and... my BMS is dead. Now, I would be happy to just keep the stock battery and controller (for now) so my question is: is there any aftermarket BMS that I can buy that also works with the stock battery & controller? I could eventually go for a VESC, but if I could dive into it in a second moment I would opt for that... Thanks to anyone that can give me an answer ✌

Unfortunately no. FM Onewheel ESCs require a stream of data from their BMSs in order to function. You’d need to have the BMS repaired or replaced and a mod chip like an OWIE installed to get the ESC to work properly.

Hey Mario! You mention that the safety of some the chi’s offerings are questionable. What battery (besides stock) would you recommend for stock xr users trying to get extended range? I’m going vesc but I have had CBXR issues in the past nothing dangerous luckily.

Hi Mario, looking forward to your next video. I'm outside the US so ordering a battery from you is cost prohibitive on the shipping side. I've made my own OW battery before copying FM design so will follow your guide and wiring to make this 20s battery. However, I don't want to open my controller again and have glued in a momentary switch so I'll need an antispark with this battery / BMS's. Do you think an anti-spark will fit in the stock XR box with the battery and Z-BMS?

If you are REALLY good with wire management, and can manage the fit of an anti spark circuit, then it can probably be done. If you need more space, you can also drop the pack to a 19s2p and buy some space that way.

It requires a specific 84 volt charger.

I might be able to in the future, as I may have a hazmat licensed partner. However there are good builders in other countries that I’m pretty sure wouldn’t have a hard time with a pack like this. In the video description I link a couple in the EU. I’ll have to see about other localities though

I have a couple of articles on my blog about their most recent models. I was asked to do some rewiring, and I also give my impressions. Links are in the description of this video. Also, if you look at the CBXR at the left, connected to the ENNOID, those last two cell groups that show as being very low, are damaged. That pack was returned to my friend that way, after being told it was refurbished. So I don’t currently have confidence in their products.

Unfortunately no, the stock controller is designed for a 15s battery, maxing out at 63v. This is for use with VESC based aftermarket ESCs.

Not really, the cells aren’t the determining factor, it’s the controller’s voltage range. It works with 15 cells in series and that is all it will work with.

It would be cool if it was be possible to make a 20s battery and a BMS that would be able to do voltage control of the output so one could switch between the full 20s standard voltage or the 63 voltage so it could work with Vesc or the FM Controller. Or maybe that would be dumb. Lol

I did already purchase the fungineers 12s with removable batteries and built in bms. I like the idea of removable batteries but not sure it is going to be enough power. Wish they had it in a larger configuration. Update: decided on zbms. Your site is working or at least mostly working. Tried to purchase battery. Says “added to cart” then goes no where. Would like to purchase. Hopefully fixed soon
