This is an epidemic tho. The fact that so many parents are sharing intimate details of their offspring’s lives on the internet, publicly exploiting people who are unable to consent- whether it’s in blogs, on facebook, or in videos like this one- should be proof enough to any sane person that those parents are terrible people

*Autism mom here* Also, you should NEVER speak about your child in front of tjem. She can’t defend herself. And autistic people are so much more aware than they can verbalize. She hears him critiquing her every move, and she can’t defend herself. When she wanted to go to bed and then the camera off, she was not happy he was talking down on her like a dog. I could never talk abojt my son right in front of him ok camera like that. When teachers try to talk about my sons shortcomings, I Always make sure he is not present for it. Great coverage. I was a fan of theirs until about a year ago. When they moved into their new house, the humbleness and humility got left behind. They got greedy and selfish and now Abbie is treated like a prop more than anything. The “teenage girl’s room makeover” Priscilla did was really frustrating. That was the first hint to me that they were straying away from what Abbie actually needed (a room with sensory toys that was comfortable and made just for her). Then the drama with Asa’s first daughter came out and when Asa mentioned that people were talking about them I discovered that there were a few online forums discussing the very same issues you brought up here. My opinion of them officially shifted. Please keep up the work on this! Something has to give because what they’re doing is not right. They lie constantly and expect people to just deal with the BS because those who object come off as ableist or discriminatory.

My son has autism, he is high functioning- I saw these vids and showed him and asked him what he thought of it- he is 17 today. He is disgusted and angry about these videos and these people. He said even he can see where she signs, interacts, and body language Abbie is not enjoying much of this, exposing her, and taking her dignity and sense of self and the abilities she does have to communicate away from her. By ignoring her communications- which are quite clear in her signs, expressions, verbalizing through sounds and some words, and her behaviors and stims all show what she feels about things. Even before my son could verbalize and communicate through sign or speech he could let me know what he wanted and needed. I looked for the cues he would give us. Children shouldn’t be shoved in front of a camera without their consent or them having the ability to give consent. My son said there is more going on than we will ever see. A child in her state can not ever give consent as she does not have the mental capacity to understand consent- if she cannot ever live on her own then therefore she cannot give consent for using her on screen. She should be receiving ABA, occupational therapy, mental health therapy, physical therapies and life skills classes for children and young adults with disabilities. You can easily educate people without putting her in the videos, you could do animation, instructional, informational, guidance, and ways to find resources and do wonderful things for autism and to help those who are struggling. So from the view of the autistic child my son says stop exploiting her! From the mother of a child with autism- you are not helping the community by doing harm or taking the dignity and sense of self away from Abbie.

Ashlee: I appreciate your comment and I'm grateful that you shared your own son's opinion. THAT IS SO IMPORTANT.. Your suggestions for other ways for Asa to make his videos without exploiting Abigail are VERY TRUE and Asa should at least TRY to do just that. I think it may bring MORE people to his channel. I'm convinced that the Maas family has valuable tips for parents that have a child with Autism and want to learn more about how to do certain things and how to handle certain situations, BUT her Mom using her for her MLM doesn't make any sense too me at all. I pray that they at the very least they take on Josh's challenge for only one month and re-evaluate. IT WOULD SAY EVERYTHING ABOUT THEIR CHARACTER AND MOTIVES if they just tried. I'M SO UNCOMFORTABLE with him man-handling her to force her to look at the camera. (maybe I'm wrong, but NO-ONE should be treated/forced in the manner he uses) IMO You sound SO knowledgeable about Autism and I have so much respect for you and your son. I really hope that Abbie gets the numerous different types of therapy you mentioned. I hope that they are using the majority of their monetary gain from RU-vid not for vacations, cars, etc., but for the therapies that you mentioned as well as setting up a trust for her future care after they pass away. I used to follow FA, until I watched them take Abbie to a meet and greet. It was absolutely heaving and she started having a meltdown. I felt so sorry for her being in that situation. I almost thought the parents were resentful as they wanted to do the meet and greet. I think Isaiah actually ended up taking her back to the hotel room 😢 honestly breaks my heart that she’s put in situations like that and is constantly filmed and she always says ‘bye’ to the camera. 💔💔

If there is a cure, then if one can speak up for themselves then they should be able to say yes or no to receiving it. If I could get a cure that would make me normal I would swallow it down in a heartbeat. I am so sick of the disappointments and sick of how hard it is for me to just do what most adults my age catch onto easily. As a person on the Autism spectrum I have been disgusted by their content since the potty training videoes. She is a living human being with the rights to privacy. I felt like they treated her like she wasn’t a person. And the way they use Autism as the main focus of almost all the videoes makes me so upset. I get that it might be too help other parents, but don’t record your child having a melt down for petessake. That’s just not okay. I would like to be seen as the person I am first and foremost and then diagnosis and all that can come after. I got diagnosed at 7 years old. I live in my own apartment, I’m in a loving relationship and we have our 5 years aniversary this month. I also became a dog owner recently to the sweetest little puppy. I’m writing that due to the fact that Autism affects every person diffrently and the way the channel portrays Autism and how they talk about it makes it seam like Autism can only look the way she has it. It can get frustrating sometimes as this is also the only way I have seen Autism been portrayed in movies. People tend to say to me, wait you have Autism? You don’t seam like you do. So that’s just another reason why I don’t like their channel. No matter where on the spectrum you are, verbal or non verbal, high/low functioning, you have the same rights as any other human being and deserves to be treated with respect. Alot of non verbal Autistic people are actually extremely intelligent. Also socially. I have met some who writes what they want to say on their phone and then it talks for them. So to assume that she thinks like a two year old in every aspect is not necessarily right. Even if she can give consent I’m afraid they might ignore it like he did when she put her hand on the camera, wich makes it even more difficult to watch. Kinda hope they get cancelled.

I can go to a concert and have a great time, but a sporting event, I can't handle it. We're all different but she is clearly upset on camera and he's talking over her clear discomfort about how she uses the restroom. Gag. I'm high functioning, I could easily say no and make it clear I don't want something, but so can she, and she's saying no in the videos with how upset she is. @@saywhat3021 Given your reply I'd like to be just a little clearer. Stimming is short for self stimulating behavior. It's something we do to relieve stress, or to express inner frustration outwardly. When she's throwing her head around and making noise It's stimming. She doesn't want to be on camera but can't clearly communicate that so she's stimming as a way to express her frustration. You can tell she doesn't want to be on camera, and likely she's far more aware of what's going on than he thinks she is. Most autistic people who find a voice usually make it clear that they know more of what's happening than they're given credit for. I'd imagine, especially in the one where he's showing how she uses the restroom that she knows he's showing it to other people and is humiliated but can't express that. It's true we aren't all alike, but based on what I saw and my understanding of how it feels to be autistic combined with the research I did into the experience of other people with autism when I first learned about my diagnosis that's what I see in her behavior. I think she doesn't like that camera because she knows what he's doing with the video and it's humiliating. Also group pictures are always the worst. You have to stand still with all these people in your personal space. Autistic people usually don't want to be in them.

We never saw proof that CPS complimented them. Asa said they did and we know what a liar he is. I’m more interested in how Priscilla spent tens of thousands of dollars on weight loss surgery two years ago and still looks the same? I’m not body shaming here. I’m simply thinking all of that money they wasted could have been used for more therapy for the daughter. Especially OT.

I also have an IDD son and will place him in a home where he will be happy and thrive. I do not pretend that he will ever be independent (even though he is far more advanced) he will be happy. And that is all I was saying. If you don’t want to be called out, than keep your mouth shut. The Maas’s do not follow through on anything. Where’s the 2 year weight loss? There is a peloton somewhere. How are they affording a huge mortgage or trips during quarantine or big boy toys? Off the back of a CHILD that they spent thousands of dollars having weight loss surgery supposedly to be healthier and around longer for Asa’s second daughter. Pricilla goes so far as to say these other parents simply drop off their child in August and pick them up at the end of the school year. How do they know how involved each parent is? People who do these videos are finding everything they can to pick apart. Only finding the things that can looked at in bad ways. Saying they have expensive things like cars! Seriously?! Boats!? One boat! An older boat. Their cars, an older Toyota pick up he bought from his dad, his son's car which they had bought before! A $500k house so what! They explained why they bought this home! So that later it can be resold and get the value back FOR Abby's sake! Most of the things they showed were mostly older videos! And they have learned a lot! You need to look at these types of these videos and how they are picking someone's lives apart when they aren't professionals! How does this make this person any better?!

@Gabrielle Molinaro Yes, that Wee Family is horrible. Lauren Brazee I don’t think is as bad. In the beginning I thought she was going to be, but she seems to have kind of stepped away from the focus of her daughter and it’s more about herself, her pregnancy, being overweight, and Lauren and her mom do a podcast together. If her daughter wants to say hi to the camera she can if she doesn’t she’s not filmed. I mean she will have video after video that does not show her daughter at all. People will even make comments asking where she is and she will say she just hasn’t been in the mood lately. So I do respect her a lot for being cautious of her daughters feelings. And the other family you mentioned, I have never seen.

After listening to all of your videos on them (I watched them in reverse order 😅) I have UNSUBSCRIBED , UNFOLLOWED, UNLIKED all of their pages/content. Autism awareness and education is the only substance to take out of these videos. Let’s make it clear that awareness and education is available in other avenues, and in other ways than just by watching the Mass family. I value Abigail’s safety and privacy enough to do my own research/discovery regarding special needs education. Using resources that don’t include exploitation. -yes this is possible- Thanks for bringing this to light, there’s a ton of positives to take out of their videos but the positivity will never outweigh what their true motive is and how this channel has changed for the worse. Unfortunately, and I am guilty of it, many many followers of them are blinded by the “good” they do for the autism community.
