They should bring this series back on the air---with a disclaimer. Lately, John Fogerty's relationship with Fantasy Records has improved greatly. In 2005, Fantasy was under new management and decided to finally give John Fogerty the royalties that he deserved. John not only accepted it but he signed a new contract with Fantasy where he continues to make music to this day. It's nice to know that some rock and roll stories have a happy ending.

John is a legend. His songs have added so much joy to my life. Saw Creedence live at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1970. Awesome stuff and he has only got better over the years. Thanks John. I think the others in the band should have accepted that they were not as talented and been grateful for their fame and fortune. It seems they were jealous of his genius. When he plays the old stuff live he sounds just the same as when he was part of the band. They were dispensable, he was not.

Oh, My. God. OMG!!!! Anyone who loves the music of John Fogerty, go to your local library and read his new autobiography, FORTUNATE SON!!! Stunning photos, life story, complete honesty by a legend. The man went from America's best selling artist topping the Beatles on the charts in the USA as they were breaking on in 1969, thru hell, and back. I love John Fogerty and the former CCR; read the book, about his journey~ An amazing man and artist, for sure~! God Bless John; thanks for all your music~!

When he started singing Proud Mary I got goose bumps. CCR music is still some of the best classics I have and listen to regularly. Yes, I play a lot of modern rock and enjoy blues, pop, jazz, etc. But, CCR stuff and John's own later stuff is soulful. I'm happy Julie inspired him the way she did.

John Fogerty was not a Dictator but a leader and champion for his music. He is not an Egotistical man but rather a man that is confident in his ability to create, produce and sing great songs. Thank God he stood his ground and never compromised otherwise we wouldn’t have all those great songs today and forever. Too bad the band members turned out to be such idiots.

I saw John Fogerty last summer here in St. Louis; managed to score tickets dead center (centerfield!), maybe 100ft from the stage. And what an amazing show; Fogerty & his band were in the pocket all night, stellar rock show all the way. When you think about all the BS this man has been through most of his career + life events, the fact that I even had the opportunity to see him perform is nothing short of a small miracle, for which I’m forever grateful. Seeing John Fogerty live was very much a dream come true, for me. 👍🎵🎸🎷🥁⚾️

I think John not playing with the other members of CCR at the Rock n' Roll Hall of fame concert was one of the only things he could do to get back at them. Unlike him they made money off of the CCR songs they stole courtesy of the record company, and now they wanted in on the concert side also, pffff! And they had the nerve to be insulted, it's frankly hard to grasp

Any competent rhythm section could have done the job, and there would be no difference in how many records were sold, how many tickets were sol, and how many people loved the band. And when Tom left, nobody knew the difference. The bottom line is that John Fogerty was Creedence, and it would have just as good with any other reasonable sidemen.

The rest of the band members should've left the song writing n singing up to John, who knows, they might've had a lot more success. he's god-damned good... one of my all-time life-time favorites. too bad cook & clifford screwed things up because in life we all wanna be something we're not. neither cook nor clifford should ever be writing songs for an album of the magnitude of CCR and neither one should ever have been lead vocals on any recording on anybody's album. Mardi Gras sucked accept for the fogerty sung songs. you're selling millions of albums, one of the top bands in the land and then you wanna alter the nucleus of that chemistry when you've gotta know you don't have the talent to pull it off w/o fogerty at the helm..... stupid as hell. i don't blame fogerty... i wouldn't have ever played with either one of the idiots again either if it were me. we're talking about fans and millions of dollars... ain't no time to be something you're not.

I think it is easy to understand Cook and Clifford - even to understand Tom - when they started out John wrote the songs and I think it is easy to say, "Well, we contributed ... we played on the record," and not understand just how much pressure John was under. What really hurt John and drove the wedge between him and his band mates is that CCR - even though they broke up - still owed records on their contract and the record company wasn't going to come after the guys who could barely play in a band, they came after the guy - John - who had the talent. Understand that John probably didn't relate this to his old band mates, or maybe he did, it doesn't matter, when you have to give up your music to get out of a shit contract, it almost ruined John's life even more. It took John a long time to get over it and even accept his own "Old" music, so if these two guys thought that John was ever going to play with them again, they didn't know John as well as they thought they did. Just as the record company didn't care about anyone but John, the Rock Hall also didn't care about anyone but John. If John said I'll play my old songs, but I will not do it with those other guys in my band, the Rock Hall was more interested in John, just as the fans were more interest in John. Yes, I can understand the old band mates feeling offended, but too band they weren't offended by what happened to John.

@@thundrrd5 Those two, wankers, Cook & Clifford, didn’t care one bit about John, that’s true. Why did John owe all future songs to Fantasy? Cook & Clifford & John’s Brother, Tom were all let out of the contract(that they all signed)but not John. It is because they had very little talent, that is why!

In the very early 70’s the band members wanted more control along side John. They wanted to write songs and sing. John said “ok…let’s see what you got”. It produced results that wouldn’t make CCR standards. This only added to the tension. They really needed to just take a back seat and give the wheel to John Fogerty. Stay out of the way and contribute as members not lead.

Not so sure about that John Y. Both had good college educations and Stu had options for law school, which you know, requires a modicum of intelligence and hard work to get into. The car wash was John's domain as he has often alluded to, he didn't want to go back there. John didn't make it through community college, couldn't stick it out, might have had the "I know better than everyone syndrome", or always had it so it may seem. Served him well right? Made him so happy for decades, for sure. Like, ah, "we're not doing encores anymore, they are phony". So righteous, so pure so whole. So stupid and disrespectful of paying fans is what it is. Listen to Royal Albert Hall and ask yourself, would you be a self indulgent prat not to go out and do an encore for the thousands of fans screaming and stomping for 15 minutes post Chooglin? Would you be a tosser do such a thing? Stu, Tom and Doug may be not all squeaky clean, but were known to want some say in more sensible business dealings for CCR, a united front and some say with the dealings with Zaentz, a little bit of room to move musically occasionally, but to maintain the basic band structure and presence. And maybe to give Tom a shot at vocals occasionally. But no, not even one, and you know, Tom could sing just fine once in a while. Just once, no, no, never. Everyone here dissing Stu and Doug only has to listen to a Creedence record and then anything solo by John to know that CCR was the epitome of what a band should be with a unique way of delivering and presenting their music. Which BTW often came about after multiple hours jam sessions around ideas, with no credit ever given to other band members. Except when John is criticizing them, like an interview where John talks about Born to Move and sets about putting down Stu for the bass solo, or John saying he gave Doug the tape splicings from the master of Cottonfields because, you know, Cosmo couldn't get the drum part right?? What? Very mature, so boss. Covers like Spell and Q, Gravevine and Good Golly, et al are delivered in a uniquely but instantly recognizable Creedence way, and played very tastefully, hear the drum intro to Spell, or the bass fills in Suzie Q for eg.. But as a band they were the real thing, and way ahead with the verve and the soul in Creedence, than John ever accomplishes in any post CCR efforts. Even BMS, though technically very competent, is way less 'dirty' and low down sounding than say Fortunate Son, Born on the Bayou, Travellin Band, 99 and 1/2. He even admits to going through 30 + drummers on Blue Moon Swamp. Such a perfectionist, yeah, boss again. That's right, those 30 plus drummers, well obviously most couldn't play to John's standards! (He obviously listened to the drumming on Blue Ridge Rangers or Centerfield for the gold standards in drumming perhaps?). But Creedence sell over 100 million records with the guys who according to John, were" a couple of bums who can't hold time", Roskilde 1997. Classy. John has continually blamed everybody else, for everything bad that happened to "him" (let's forget about everyone else affected) for decades, and it seems, never displayed any self reflection that he might be responsible for some of what happened to him (and others) and the collapse of one of America's greatest rock bands. His R&R Hall of Fame shenanigans are fatuous, and breathtaking in his inability to see the big picture and display some grace, humility and humanity to his high school friends, his brother, their families, who stuck it out for 10 years before making it. Giving up jobs, further education opportunities, possessions, vehicles, houses and money to a team pool before they did make it. Nah, Forget about that, right? He is an incredibly talented and driven music maestro on many fronts, but look at the fallout for all who were previously close to him. Like Trump, a Republican, whom he supposedly disdains, everyone is fallen by the wayside, and all others are blamed for everything that goes wrong. Other than Kenny Aronoff, look at the incredibly long list of musicians he has gone through in his solo career, and some of what they say, and how none have stayed with him over the years. None, and even Aronoff has now gone? No self filter to see how he, himself might be part of the problem. A man child who blames everyone for everything and keeps ranting about how " "happy" he is now""! As he has done since a 1984 Guitar magazine article post Centerfield, well before he met the person whom he credits for supposedly changing him in so many ways and 'made him happy'. Lame. Childlike and insecure is how this comes across, and probably is to this day. A self caused tragedy, almost a self parody, and a person who has had many followers just give up, after all his contradictions and doublespeak and cruel put downs of everyone else, over the years, while singing his own praises at every opportunity. In his book for eg, John puts down Grace Slick and Janis Joplin to somehow say that Tina Turner was better. Rather than just saying he really liked Tina, he gets uptight and dismissive of them, maybe because Janis and Grace were part of the San Franciscan scene, which he was not really a party to. Why does he need to do this? It would be like his 'buds' Brad Paisley or Billy Gibbons saying, well Johnny Corvette just ain't the axe man that I am, and that is a fact, John. Suck it up. Where is a big part of the problem again? To paraphrase John in his book, the autobiographical tome for the ages titled Fortunate Son " There ought to be a law against getting married so young" (not his fault mind you, there should be a law against it !), and he presents salacious, non answerable sleaze talk about hotel rooms in Hawaii, to what purpose eh? Who benefits from this sort of shite and who 'looses' eh? No winners you know, but nice at harboring a grudge for 40 years, at the very least. What is a sinister purpose at any rate? Some folks are just plain nicer, more pleasant human beings and more civil than others, ain't that so? Some are loyal and maintain relationships through thick and thin. They have successful lives in many realms. As is mentioned in the book, some are "Clueless", which is true of those with no capacity for self reflection and who unconsciously project their own shortcomings onto others. Fantasy is a bad part of life in more ways than one it seems. Does the bubble close around and tell him what a good fella he is and tell him how "they are all just jealous of you"? Inane crap. Would probably be so much better for everyone and himself if he chose another way to view the world, his relationship with others, and his personal legacy. You live and then you days are done, and as we see recently with Tony Joe White, one day you are here, the next you are tragically gone, new Album release or otherwise. RIP and enjoy the home made ice cream TJW. Great musician is John, very good at a lot of that. Time marches on. KOC.

@@davidkirkham6497 Tell me David, why are you so sure that you are right on this? For decades, I had hoped for a rapprochement between the remaining 3 members of this great band. However, have been worn down, along with many other people I know, who used to be huge fans, because of so many put downs and contradictory, convoluted statements over the years. There is some blame all around, but when I read the book, and saw so much lame stuff, some "new" regarding touring, etc, dragged up in a negative light, again, I finally gave up. if Covid has taught us anything, it should be to re assess out lives and of those we are close to. I know that time is tight for everyone really. I used Tony Joe White as an example, because he was musically close to CCR, toured with them, even went fishing with them, had just released a new album. Then he up and died the week the album came out! I think it would be tragic for one of America's greatest bands to not just put all the garbage behind them, stop the blame game, and have that rapprochement. It is a big stain on their legacy, and as we see with TJW, Charlie Watts recently, there is little time to do it in. As to truth hurting, well, I am just someone who doesn't share your fan boy, rose colored glasses view, but my life is pretty good there friend. Not sure that having a differing view of a musician, a guy I once loved and supported for years and years, makes it any less whole. Have a good day, enjoy the end of the good summer weather and KOC.

I imagined being there when he sang, I felt like I was really in New Orleans! I loved the way he used his words when he was singing. As if he had a New Orleans accent. That band would be nothing without him. I'm speaking of if they started without him. It was his lyrics that made the band what it is. When you know all of the words to their songs you know they are an excellent band! It's John's lyrics that made that band. Simple. Great lyrics!! But all together they are a great spirit! Without eachother they lack some. John can get by, but it's better when they are all together.

I have always LOVED CCR but understood early on the he was "CCR" The bass player was great and the drummer was great BUT John was doing all the work. It doesn't take much intelligence to figure out that he was "THE MAN"

By CCR's (Fogerty's) sound and material, I always assumed they WERE from the South!! What a shocker to find out that they aren't. I love CCR...love John Fogerty.

Yes, and these 2 are my favorite American rock bands of all time, quality music, quality songs, just pure talent. The big difference is that the Eagles have 2 leaders Frey and Henley + all of them except Felder had great singing voices. In CCR it was just John and Tom who really had the voices. Their music style and sound is a lot different though.

Cook and Clifford never wanted to do their own songs on Mardi Gras, it was John giving them an ultimatum. They just wanted more input on the business part. It was actually Tom who wanted more instrumental input, however I feel they got it on their album Pendulum (but, mostly bass and drums instead of rhythm guitar). John just misunderstood their opinions and ideas saying it was Cook/Cliffor who wanted more instrumental input and vice versa.

The other band members were released from the Fantasy Records contract. John was not released (they left him hanging for all of it). John was chained to this toxic dungeon by his bandmates (including his brother). This act shows you how cunning and conniving they were behind John's back. John had to give up royalty rights in CCR in order to move on from toxic Fantasy records and sign with someone new. They almost destroyed his life. Then when he reinvented himself in the 1990s, they pursued him to destroy him again financially with a 140 million dollar lawsuit (the ex-band members Cook/Clifford are the ones who suggested Fantasy Records sue John). John's old CCR band members are despicable and toxic. I am glad John refused to play CCR songs with them. If Google is correct, John's network is now around 100 million. The old band member such as Cook/Clifford 40 million or less.

You're probably right, things seem to have happened as you say. But it's hard to believe that people so close to one another could not understand each other. & what made things irreparable was CCR being cheated of their royalties & exploited by Fantasy Records & the others siding with the label rather than John, according to what Fogerty says. That must have really hurt him, & he had the musical genius, he wrote the classics & brought the band success, not the others, there's no doubt about that

I don't think "a jerk" applies. Stubborn, emotional, sure, but you have to imagine writing something from your heart and having it taken from you by a string of legal tales. I don't think there's many people who could come to accept that "a song isn't owned by the writer, but by the people who sing it". It's not just a legal or financial issue, it's also about someone else owning a piece of your past.

John Fogerty somehow secured the future of all his ungrateful bastards bandmate's family. John earned their millions for them, their houses, all of their properties, the education of their children. in the end justice will prevail. All the people who have wronged John, Saul and his bandmates including his brotherTom will rot in hell together. Justice for all the victims of Saul, of Don King and of all the Evil greedy managers who amassed wealth through the works of others. Long live John Fogerty!

Good grief. To sum it up. No John Fogerty, no CCR. The man was the band. Anybody could've filled the other guys' places. It didn't take a virtuoso to play John's simple music. They were average musicians just proficient enough to do what they had to do. You give them the fact that they lent CCR part of their unique studio kitchen sound, but that was just about all they could contribute. The genius was in the song-writing. Instead of being thankful for being there (and earning millions), they stabbed John in the back, including his own brother, who was the least talented of all of them. Sad story. But glad John came out on top in the end. He deserved it.

I see similar parallels between CCR and the Eagles in terms of their breakups and inner band turmoil. Much like Stu and Doug and Tom resting on the talents of John and still demanding as much money and input, you see Don Feldman (the eagles lead guitar) resting on the talents of Glen Frey and Don Henley and still demanding as much money and input into the songs. I guess money and fame speaks loudest when a band finally makes it.

I disagree. It is certainly hard when your own songs are taken from you by (bad) contract - and even harder when your buddies from the past struck you in the back ... Ok, there was jelousy and envy ... but seriously: John was the one who wrote all CCR hits, who sang all hits, who performed and produced ... never the whole success would have happened without him - Tom, Stu and Doug were simply incapable of his unique creativity ... which can easily be heard on Mardi Gras ...
