Ron MacLean referenced Tarasov's quote on Canadian hockey here it is "The Canadians battled with the ferocity and intensity of a cornered animal," said Russian coach Anatoli Tarasov. "Our players were better conditioned physically and stronger in skills then the Canadian professionals. But we could not match them in heart and desire, always the strongest part of the Canadian game." - Anatoli Tarasov, Soviet legend.
I'm american but I think Cherry is hysterical. I don't know if he gives Canada a good name or bad name but he shows people what a passion Canada has for hockey.
Only liberal morons would say he gives Canada a bad name. He’s the most patriotic Canadian ever, he tells it how it is and his rant about Remembrance Day was not wrong!
3:53 = I love how grapes picks Russia as one of his final four after eviserating the whole 🇷🇺 outfit for like 5 minutes & just chuckles a bit cause he realizes how funny it is😂 Grapes vs Stalin in the Octagon😱................ Who ya got?
The Russians are great when they're the hammer and scoring 6 plus goals a game. When it comes to them back checking, having gritty defense and going to the corners they disappear. When their offense isn't firing on all cylinders teams exploit the glaring lack of defense. It's why they might win some but will never be the consensus number one. Look at the difference with Malkin and Crosby as the perfect example.
russian hockey suck?) Russian nhl players too?) Fedorov, Datsuk, Mogilny, Kovalev, Kozlov, Gonchar, Yashin, Bure, Zubov, Zhamnov, Malkin, Larionov, Fetisov, Konstantinov, Samsonov, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Kamenski, Markov, Zhitnik, and others and others< yeah so suck) he really serious? or its just clownery?)
Everything don Cherry complains or whines about eventually becomes a big part of the game. Russian players, the European play style, etc. guy is just a dinosaur who can’t accept that change happens.
@@huntercopeland9371 i dint hate don. Hes just a old style guy. He likes fighting. And he is really patriotic. Hes just a bitter old dude. We will all get there one day.
If even just half a percent of Canadians were as passionate about Canada as Don Cherry, we would be the most powerful, fair, and respectful country on this planet. It’s so funny to me how people think of themselves as morally superior to him. If you get into a discussion about all of the time and money he’s spent working hands on with charities and doing great work outside the limelight, which they don’t do, they just acknowledge it while still insisting that he’s still some kind of bad example. We’ve been raised into a generation of nice guys who think being tough and animated means that you must just be a egotistical person. And it’s literally the opposite. Nice guys substitute the way you say things for actually doing anything or value. It doesn’t even matter whether what you’re saying is true or not, as long as it’s nice and gentle and noncontroversial. Meanwhile, these people are just as if not more capable of terrible things cloaked in nice language whether on purpose or not, and we still choose to go after guys like Cherry just for the simple fact that he’s willing to knowingly stick his neck out for his country. I love my country, and for that reason I criticize it because this is all so wrong.
Wow...how small were the studios back then. Don and Ron are so close that Ron might be wet from Don's spit from his tirade. They're so close Don had no room for his arm...he had to push Ron's arm out of the way lol
Donut Subscribe ok lets talk world jr and lets talk nhl hall of famers usgay dont have a tenth that we do we rule the hockey world and always have #fact
I remember this game, it was quite good, Russia had a goal called off because of too many men on the ice. I'm Canadian but this is Cherry at his bigotted worst. Complaining about the schedule when Canada got two home games? (Compared to Russia & Slovakia's 0.) The worst though is BRAGGING about Clarke's disgraceful slash on Kharlamov. Embarrassing. Kharlamov did come back from that slash (and then a car accident later in his career) which proves he had plenty of heart (and skill too!)
"I'm sick of hearing how great Federov is, the guy's a diver, he died last year in the playoffs and he's dying tonight." lmao! can't blame him for the truth.
I can just see Don Cherry watching hockey in 2022, what happened to bodychecking? Some games there ZERO bodychecks, even in the playoffs in elimination games.....sad.
I don't have a problem with Russian or European hockey. What I have a much bigger problem with today in the 21st Century is the hatred toward Canada from Canadians or hatred toward the United States with Americans while the same mass hypocrite people admire and glory other Countries on Other Continents on the other side of the World whose Government violate Mass Crimes Against Humanity and Acts Of Terrorism.
"Don Cherry is one of the most intelligent analysts in Canada" Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! Most intelligent Hahahahah, that was a good one
It’s hard to say a whole country of players have no heart. It’s probably true they didn’t care as much about winning something called the Canada cup as much as Canada did and all the games for them were always road games which puts you at a disadvantage.
Don Cherry was a prophet. He was right about all of it. Look at the NHL now. It has been totally ruined by soft European hockey. The league is unwatchable now.
It's technical and strategic something canadian hockeu isn't. You're just a bunch of low iq idiots who can't afford to bring down a star player any other way than to injure him. When Russia played Canada and man there was one dude called Kharlamov he got his leg slashed hardly because your whiny captain couldn't handle he was so good.
Don Cherry is a very confused man. The Canadians played dirty in 1996 and that was the only way to beat the Russians. But the Russians weren't very impressed, they play great hockey and can even play dirty hockey better than the Canadians. Russians have played the most beautiful hockey ever and no other country will ever will achieve that and most if all Canada will never do.
We have the same problem in America with NBC's coverage of the Olympics. The commentators will go on and on about how great the foreign competitors are but will not say anything about the USA's competitors.
Steve Cochrane The sad thing is, there's no one on NBC that I'd pick over Don Cherry except maybe Roenick. That's probably more of an indicator of how bad NBC's coverage is.
You will never see a line like the first one in CSKA Moscow again. So much more brilliant than dumb and chase canadian hockey. Last final in the olympics was Finland - Sweden, and when Detroit beat colarador last week, all the 8 goals was made by swedes. Go Canada Go!
suryavajra Believe me it comes from as Far back as World war two. The Russian Communists Nearly killed my Father by Starving him to near death, but my Father Was lucky he lived a while longer. I am part German on my Father's side so that is why he Fought the Russians.
suryavajra I don't know, he was Drafted in 1944, he didn't exactly believe in Hitler, I mean he loved Germany as a Country but he hated the NAZI's, I don't know what unit he was in exactly.
Fenton Hardy I see! Yeah i can imagine many soldiers in the Wehrmacht were motivated to fight based on their homeland. I wonder if military records survived...
I agree with Grapes. And I’m not xenophobic. I just believe that Canada is the best hockey country in the world and all the other countries aren’t as good. That used to be called patriotism.
R. M you can have also pride by just being proud of your country instead of bashing other countries. This guy‘s either a xenophob or has complexes that’s it
