The VW Passat GTE really is the kind of hybrid you could use everyday without even thinking of it as an EV.

What about the speed performance figures?
@maereanm
@maereanm 3 года назад
7.6 seconds to 100 km/h in GTE mode (the sedan achieves 7.3 seconds to 100 km/h). 220 km/h maximum speed. 218 hp, 400 Nm in GTE mode. The car will pull your head back on accelerations with the instant electric torque. 156 hp, 250 Nm in Hybrid mode with only the ICE Internal Combustion Engine. 115 hp, 330 instant Nm in Electric mode mode. The car is hard to beat at the stop light acceleration because of the instant electric torque. Using a 220V home plug at home after each trip, I did 5000 electric km/year in the city with only 70 km using petrol. My in-city fuel consumption is 0.13 L/100 km (2,173 mpgUK; Yes, you read that right) while also using 30 kWh/100 km. On the highway, at 130 km/h (81 mph), the car uses 7.3 L/100 km (38.7 mpg). My 12 month average fuel consumption is 4.6 L/100 km (61.4 mpgUK). I believe this is a good value for a 218 hp petrol car that can travel in the city with no pollution. The best I could get out of the 50 L petrol tank was 1,424 km (885 miles): 660 hybrid km with 47 L and 765 electric km. The average consumption in this case was 3.3 L / 100 km (85.6 mpgUK).

A good review. I am a VW owner myself (I have a VW Polo TSi). If I had the money, this would be a good car for long distance travel. But (again , if I had the money) I would await future developments. The size of the battery pack does limit the size of the fuel tank and yet this gives only 30 miles (50 kilometres) of range from battery power. If modern technology moves batteries forward, this could become a much more interesting car. If the Passat GTE had 120 + miles (around 200 kilometres) of battery-only range (with the batteries remaining the same size and weight as at present) then this would become a much more viable car.

I buy VW, a Oct 2014 Jetta GT (150ps EA288 engine) TDI, 0-60 9s 140mph top speed handles really well/eats the miles and as fresh at end as the minute you start the journey and trust me keeps up with any 150ps TDI Golf that has tryed to play games whether it's a straight line blast or twisty bits. Room for wife and 2 kids in comfort, If mega space needed just put roof bars/roofbox on. Passat now too big/heavy to have fun drive in and yes you can all take the mickey if you want, in my eyes the 2014/15/16 Jetta's far more pretty than Passat now. Also loads more space/kit than ether Golf's/Passat for far far less money.

Fair call, I've driven both. What bugs me a little about the Jetta is its back end nervousness from around 140km/h due to lack of independent rear suspension.
@markturner-smith5309
@markturner-smith5309 7 лет назад
I can see you point on that Ecky Thimble lack of independent rear suspension would indeed induce a nervous rear end. We never had the anything but independent suspension on our MK6 Jetta's. Could never ever understand why VW forced cheap rear discs (again disc's all round on our MK6 Jetta's since day one) or non independent rear suspension on you guy's particularly as you guys are the key market. Jetta's unloved here over Golf's but that suits me as means I can be different from the UK crowd.

if you had IRS then definitely you have been driving a sports car. I used to throw my leased Jetta through the roundabouts like Schumacher, a super sporty passenger car. drove a toyota auris last weekend - the steering reacts so slowly that it forces you to "behave" as a driver. as much as I enjoyed the Jetta, perhaps the Auris better complements my temperament, as the sportier the car the faster I tend to take it through the corners to test its limits.

Sadly we don't have GLI'S in the UK the fastest version we have is mine the GT 150ps TDI (before that were 140ps Sport trim by name) in both cases always had IRS with "sport suspension drop by 15mm at factory" on these basically Golf MK6 GT set up.....I have always wondered how close our GT's/sports are to the slightly lower drop of 20mm on your GLI's are in handling terms/different in how they deliver driver feedback handling wise, we simply don't get a powerful 2.0ltr petrol option here or GLI's to test such a thing.

am from continental europe and drove the hybrid 1.2 without IRS, nothing more. but even that version could accelerate surprisingly well in addition to sharp handling.

Seriously, don't bother! Friend has a Golf GTE. He drives like a pensioner and barely gets 40mpg from it. I can't imagine how much worse it would be in this much bigger car. Not to mention how unbelievably more expensive they are compared to the normal engines models.
@successor15
@successor15 8 лет назад
When not in electric mode, the car will obviously perform like any other standard petrol engined golf so 40mpg sounds about right. Where plugins shine, as the reviewer mentioned, is when they are used as full electric vehicles if your daily commute/circumstances allow. Saving money on a plugin without using a single drop of petrol is purely dependant on how often you charge the car. The insane sticker mpg figures (166 in this case!) are completely useless and have no bearing on reality.
