You should try a series where you try old top tier vehicles like the m1 abrams, ipm1, t80b, Leo 2a4 and others to see how they hold up (I would prefer you do the m1 abrams first but it’s your channel so you can do whatever you want)

It’s august 2020 and T80U still the CQC armour meta top tier. Idk about other 10.7 but M1A2 doesn’t hold a candle near it. At longer range, you can’t kill this thing in head to head(big eastern europe map).

WT amplifies the real life differences between western and soviet MBTs... Unfortunately things in favor of soviet tanks that can matter in real life don't in the game, and things that make them lag behind just kill them in the game, because the meta only rewards ultra fast reaction times. Soviet tanks when compared to any 3rd gen western MBT clearly lack in 3 major things, making them atrocious to play in the game, and potentially make them bad also in real life. 1- First thing is the soviets lagging behind in servomotors technology, that is, the technology involved in the stabilizer controlling turret drive and gun elevation, the technology used was developped in the 1960s and incrementally improved up until the late 1980s, actually even the T-90A and any current modernized T-72B3 / T-80BVM use this old tech, in the T-90M and T-14, Russians finally developped real modern systems on par with what's used in Leopard 2 etc. So that was the first big issue. You got to understand, that soviets could actually develop (and/or copy/spy/steal) better systems, but they didn't bother for a few reasons (we are talking about all t-64/72/80 tanks), first, they wanted to keep those tanks as cheap as possible, as light as possible, bigger and better stabs were just not "necessary" in their view, and would have been too expensive on the whole. It was good enough, bigger and better was supposed to be only for the next gen tanks that never passed the prototype stage because of the fall of USSR (obj 299, 487 etc) 2- Obviously, thermal imagers. When the soviet union decided to sort of give up on computer technologies in the 1970s and focus on other things, they accumulated too much of a gap to catch up the advancements of the west and their japanese/korean partners in micro-electronics. This posed a serious problem when advanced optro-electronics became as important as the armor or the gun itself in tanks, in late 1970s and 1980s. Soviets still managed to make good night vision systems as they always did since after WW2 (and actually in the 1930s they were some of the pioneers), they also made a few thermal imagers, but it was just far too complex and expensive for them, and their technology lagged behind that of the west (germany/USA mostly). As such, no single soviet tank was ever fitted with thermals, only prototypes, whereas in the west, we have leo2 and Abrams with thermals since day one, plus a myriad of older tanks with it too like late Leo1s and M60a3. Soviets and Russians were late to fully understand how a game changer it was, 1991 gulf war gave them a glimpse. In the 1990s Russians managed to make a handfull T-80Us with thermals, but this indigeneous 1st gen thermal was already behind what was fitted to western tanks in the 1980s. Only a partnership with france's Thales brought serious thermal tech in russia in the 2000s, with the T-90A. Then you got all those belarussian and russian developpements based on the french tech, fitted to new tanks, choppers lighter armor etc etc... Example is SOSNA-U gunner sight of T-72B3 etc. Unfortunately, except tanks not yet in service T-90M and T-14, no russian tanks have commander thermal sight. 3- mobility. Compared to the abrams/leo2 uber combo of NATO, only the T-80 familly can rival them mobility wise, T-72 and T-64 are sluggish. Simply, their engine are low power and quite cheap. This was a choice. These small and cheap-ish engines allow smaller tanks, required in soviet armor philosophy. T-80 turbine was something special, very good. The real problem with mobility of soviet tanks is the transmission/gearbox. They all use very compact and lightweight packs but with absolutely no reverse speed, IE, no tactical reverse speed, only a service reverse gear for parking and garage maneuvers. This was a design choice, and it make them far less agile on the battlefield. Now you take these 3 factors in the game, and you get 80% loss rate for soviet teams at high tiers. It can't be otherwise. Firepower or armor or advanced design of soviet tanks are perfectly fine and something to be proud of for soviet engineers/designers, but for a WT battle they play 0 role, ZERO. The only thing that matters is retarded fast reaction and cheat-level spotting, all western tanks have that, because of 1 million $ value optics they got and super high tech stabilizer with ultra fast electric motors. They could have average to bad ammo, they would still dominate, even with their bad armor they totally dominate "superior" on paper soviet tanks. This is why a centauro or a leopard 2 will always dominate soviet russian tanks in the game, no matter what, only T-90M and T-14 can bring parity for russia. Yeah sometimes you can abuse map knowledge or skills or just pure luck and dominate with a russian tank in the game, but all things equal, western thermals and mobilty (reaction time of chassis and gun) will always be n°1 dominating factor by 100 fold. I find it absolutely RIDICULOUS that they artificially gave thermals to T-80B and T-80U, even if it somehow save them for gameplay. Any tank with thermals in the game should have far higher BR than others. Remove soviet thermals and make them 9.7 max. In real life, soviet tanks are quite efficient at long lasting wars and hold up well to ATGM/RPG dense battlefield, they are crude and simple to maintain, reliable, and their 125mm HEFRAG is just a battlefield king. Western MBTs are less suited for conflicts like chechnya/syria/donbass, but are optimised for tank vs tank combat.

Muh t80u, my pride and joy, I really love this tank. I'm looking forward to the t90 too, but I really wonder how effective it will be compared to the t80u given the fact that the t90, at least the first models had subpar mobility, no thermals and the dazzlers prevented Era to be placed on the turret, wonder what br it will be when it's added.

I´m rather new to the game and more or less a casual player playing the Realistic Tank battles on 3.7-4.0 with Kv-1 zis /or sis (idk) and stucked there. I sometimes get the shots on some targets but I feel like the firepower is not the best, maybe I am just using the wrong ammo for the tanks, i now started to switch to completely AP shells instead of the capped ones and now I am able to pen some tanks but I still struggle with some Churchils, Tank destroyers ,etc, any tipps?

T-80U stand for T-erminator - 80-0 ( 800 ) , U-ltimate. The unstopoble immortal Soviet Stalinium Guided Terminator. In real word : T-80 being naaaaaaaaaah old average ,( if you don't count Oplot -M and Cz version of it ) in game ..... look description at the start of the comment.

T-80U was the best tank of the Cold War and for some years after. Not sure how WT calculates armor and if the thicknesses are actual but its well short of the protection value, especially without HERA.

T80u is not a Russian tank but a Soviet one. There are currently no Russian tanks in the War Thunder game.

It's the only good Russian top tier tank. 80b's defense is a joke, t64s and t72s are slow and only have -4 reverse.
