Knies made an awesome play there to send Nylander in, Knies has been great since he's been a Leaf, and especially good in the playoffs - and only 21 playing a robust game, great piece.
yeah that was a real sneaky, smooth play. he's been plug and play. he should be on our pp, remove the behind the back-pass in the neutral zone and replace it with a dump and chase and have Knies fight for the puck because he's a bull on the ice.
I honestly think that him, along with O'Neill and Noodles, have changed the landscape of sports/entertainment radio since Covid... Just wish my hometown Vancouver market had such personalities... I do think there's a bit of "oh shit, dad's not here, we'd better get to work" mentality, especially defensively, but I also think a big part of it is Woll being in net & the team trusting him a lot more than they do Samsonov, so they don't take as many risks defensively & they're much calmer in their play. Also, they've made the no-Matthews lines really click, somehow.

Give Mathews Knies a couple more seasons. That OT winner gave him a lot more confidence! Just imagine if Darryl Dougie and Wendel can mentor him to bring more out of him! It takes a team, boys in the trenches , grinders , playing harder with determination. Forget the core 4 , core 4 are nothing without another 19 or 20 players ! It wasn’t a game 7, so it didn’t have the drama of Boroschevski against Detroit, or McDonald against the NYI, or Gilmour vs St Louis, but it was up there!
I honestly think Its Covid Matthews has and I think Willy had it beforehand. Its no coincidence both Willy and Matty go down one after another with this "illness" which seems to be head related.. This moronic take from Hayes and others that Samsonov "had to start" when he is just an average starter, with such an inconsistent history, when Woll has elite potential, is the most absurd take in Leaf Land this Playoff season - and believe me, there is a LOT of material. Woll had HARDER starts coming off an injury - that is just the ineptitude of the coaching staff not to recognize, first, what they have in Woll, and second, that you put him in a bad situation off an injury and Samsonov in the easier starts down the stretch...Hayes works for Bell Media, and Bell Media has ownership in the Leafs - so he can't go on and talk about how inept the coaching staff and management of the Leafs were for not first Prepping Woll for Playoffs when he got back, and then starting him..this is Bell Media covering up for Leafs.
the leafs would be on the sunny beaches of florida waitting for panthers if WOLL had of been the starter. Sammy let in those weak goals that put the leafs behind.
