"The threat of crime in Atlanta could debilitate Buckhead's condominium market.
Atlanta's wealthiest district has experienced a rash of high-profile and headline-making incidents over the past year, including numerous shootings at Lenox Square mall. Crime is the dominant issue heading into this fall's mayoral election, and those who are pushing for Buckhead to secede from Atlanta often cite crime as the number one reason."

"The police not being allowed to do their job" means the cops are being restrained from abusing their positions of authority and violating the most basic civil rights of individuals. Cenk touched on a point and it's key: rich cities have been trying to break away for years now. I actually remember certain cities in Atlanta (don't remember if it was Buckhead) wanting to break away for at least ten years now. I used to live in Atlanta, the suburbs outside of Atlanta can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes away and a lot of them have the population to be their own cities. It makes sense for some of them to separate from Atlanta. That being said Buckhead is not one of those suburbs. This is an old South tactic of benefiting from the collective wealth of Atlanta and not giving back to the city. They resent that their taxes benefit people who don't enjoy their same socio economic status.

The nickname or comparison comes tourists who visited the city maybe after visiting Beverly Hills, and other city's districts on the same caliber and determined that Buckhead comes the close, and was provided that nickname. As a former police officer in Atlanta area. Buckhead and other affluent areas of Atlanta was accustomed to paying APD to have police officer do off duty stand by, and motor vehicle police patrols. Like Midtown neighborhoods of Buckhead Forest, Buckhead Heights, Garden Heights, Peachtree Heights as well. Northern Fulton County wants to return to its pre World War II County name of Milton County, and South Fulton County wants the same to go back to Campbell County. They also would not pass the MARTA metropolitan bus and train into North Fulton County because of Atlanta residents an that's why some of the Cities started making there own cities Brookhaven, Chattahoochee Hills, Dunwoody, John's Creek, Milton, Sandy Springs and South Fulton. This caused Fulton County Police to go from a major or one of the largest Police department in the Metro area to maybe the smallest in the county, not the area but county. The smallest why. Because those with affluence/money/wealth began these cities which changed the tax base/rate for Fulton County. These areas were unincorporated areas of Fulton County. Believe me when I tell it about affluence, money, social standing, and wealth. My son went to a charter school just North of Buckhead (Alpharetta, Roswell, Sandy Springs area). My local YMCA that we frequent was the Buckhead YMCA. They treated us well but once again many of the people there weren't very mean but somewhat snobby. I loved that place.

On one side of the equation the wealthy people don't pay their fair share of taxes in the first place through VERY creative accounting. On the other side of the equation the same wealthy people benefit from tax breaks and incentives, govt programs, and flat-out special treatment from the legislation, legalized-bribery, and special commercial products, services, and protections that "normal" people do not have access to. @@davidwarren9204 Wrong, just wrong. Rich people will often vote to raise property tax (which is the only tax at play here). The increase can pay for a better police force, repair roads (Atlanta's roads are awful), form and fund their own school system (ATL public schools suck and most of Buckhead pays for private schooling). Doing this will drive up their property value making them way more money and more than compensate them for the extra they pay in tax. What he fell to mention, as so many, is the REAL REASONING! Gentrification.... this happened several years ago and when they did this without thinking it through. The projects and middle class communities they removed and made it impossible for them to move back in. Didn't think about the cons of their plan. I knew then when they was doing that, the crime rate in areas LIKE Buckhead was going to go up. U push blacks in projects and then forces them out without a plan to help , they only wanted to help themselves from traveling back and forth to and from the city for work. I've lived in one of the most affluent areas in Atlanta outside of Buckhead for 10 years and I can say from my experience that you guys are spot on. Buckhead has been trying to limit black and brown people from going there for over a decade. They have campaigned against expanding the marta system so public transportation doesn't even go up to most areas in and around Buckhead. Cops there are already heavy handed as well. I've been stopped and searched after a dog did a "free air test" around my car more than 5 times up there since I've lived here. Each time the dog supposedly "signaled" and the cops searched my car finding absolutely nothing. They don't want us in the stores up there unless we're working in them. It's well known that you don't cut through certain residentials to avoid traffic if you're black and in a nice car or if it'sa certain time of the day. And if they form their own police department, I'm sure it'll only get more oppressive.

That's laughable; like Aleppo, Syria announcing "we are seceding and will make our own police force because it's too dangerous around here!" Crime has risen EVERYWHERE. I am so glad you wrapped this story with a discussion of police problems - you are spot on! This entire country needs to rethink every element of policing. They have gone down a rabbit hole. My thoughts on Buckhead: they say they are the size of San Francisco? SNORK. By size, they must mean square miles, because in Buckhead, most of that space is sculptured lawns and swimming pools. This is an enclave of OLD MONEY, for the most part. Unfortunately, much of the POWER in GA lives here; Kemp's mansion is in the heart of Buckhead. I suppose many of this ilk would call me a communist, because I believe that trying to secede from paying YOUR SHARE is unpatriotic. If the wealthy are allowed to abandon the real people of the world, we are doomed. I hope the people of Buckhead fail miserably. I hope it costs them a s***load of money that would be better spent if each neighborhood just hired their own security guards. I've lived in and around ATL for 1/4 century and I love my city. @@sardoniclaugh9646 Hey if you want to be ruled over by your new kings like a filthy serf that's your business but most people on this channel believe in this thing called America where you get ahead by hard work and maintaining equality of opportunity. If you're too stupid or uneducated to understand why the wealthy taking their money out of the city of Atlanta to build their own city than you're either someone who's already a product of the two tier public education system or dishonest actor who thinks they'll be rewarded for their toadying. Likely you've been robbed of an education by repeated cuts to public services because the rich have given themselves repeated tax cuts over the last 40 years.

@@sardoniclaugh9646 You can work and STILL qualify for welfare. Not all people on welfare are lazy. Im sure next you would tell them to get a skill and stop making excuses, and I would tell you trade schools are not free, nor is college. If you are struggling to make ends meet how are you going to afford further education/training? A loan? With interest so high, that even though you make more money, you are still back where you started?!?! Tryna make ends meet?!? If only it was as easy as jumping off a coach and saying "Im going to make 100k at work today".

They want cops who won’t bring in their spoilt kids when they commit crimes.

I have family there who told me years ago this was coming. It's simply a group of rich white people who want to stay the majority and be able to vote in whatever laws they want.
