Join me for another what I eat in a day pre diabetes and insulin resistance edition where I also incorporate blood sugar tests and blood sugar experiments along the way to see in real time how my blood sugar is reacting to the foods I eat. I have tried to find and follow the "perfect" pre diabetes diet and insulin resistance diet in the past like keto and low carb but... it was a disaster for both my physical and mental health. I truly believe that a "perfect" diet doesn't exist! So now I focus on balancing my blood sugar through balanced eating, and I definitely make many mistakes along the way, as you'll see in this video.
I'm sharing this video in all its ugly, honest, and messy glory. I'm not going to pretend that I eat perfectly everyday to keep my blood sugar in optimal range, because that's just not realistic. Please don't judge me for being human! I truly hope this video can normalize for others out there that we are all doing the best that we can, and our best is good enough for now!

Thank you for this information. I’m borderline A1C 5.6-5.7 and want to go lower. I found losing weight and a low carb lifestyle has helped me. Low carb tortillas are my go to bread. So glad I found your channel 🥰

My a1c is around the same range as yours! Sounds like you're making a lot of positive changes for your health. Keep it up, and thanks so much for watching!

Hi there. It’s really nice to find someone talking about this. I have pre-diabetes as well. I am not overweight at all, I’m active, so I ‘shouldn’t’ have it. As long as I keep my carbohydrate count lower, I can get my fasting gluco at or under 100. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for joining me on this journey, Erin! I'm totally in the same boat as you. Active and not overweight. Other than the fact that I'm Asian American, I don't meet any of the risk factors for diabetes. My doctors actually tested me for type 1 diabetes because they initially didn't think I could possibly be headed towards type 2. It's frustrating and disheartening at times, but props to you for finding a diet that seems to be working for you! That's so awesome! Looking forward to sharing and bouncing ideas off of each other :)

Hi dear, do you experience dawn phenomenon? should we take breakfast early or wait untill blood suger levels are at base line till noon.
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama 2 года назад
I don't experience dawn phenomenon so I can't speak on this personally. But according to an article by Virta Health, it says to eat a breakfast lower in carbs and to not wait too long to eat breakfast because eating food early can help your body release insulin, thus bringing your blood glucose down. www.virtahealth.com/blog/dawn-phenomenon Hope that's helpful. Thanks so much for watching!

What do you mean by undiagnosed prediabetes? Are you sharing results as a prediabetic with a high A1c or a healthy person trying to prevent diabetes?
@thegoodenoughmama

Hi! My PCP did not officially diagnose me with prediabetes yet but I have had 2 A1cs in the pre diabetic range- 5.9 and 5.7, after being told I was insulin resistant in 2017. Unfortunately, I am not metabolically healthy. I am, however, trying to prevent my metabolic dysfunction from progressing to full-blown diabetes.

@@thegoodenoughmama Thank you for being so generous and sharing your journey. I never paid attention to blood sugar until recently. I looked back at my records and saw my numbers creeping up. I bought a meter - the prick your finger kind and I've noticed some crazy things. It has made me curious about how I compare to others. Anyway, love your content, will subscribe.

I'm so glad you've taken it upon yourself to check your blood sugars. Data is power! I'm upset that your doctor didn't notice your numbers creeping up but it sounds like you're being proactive, which is awesome. Thanks so much for subscribing!

Oops so sorry, @Terisa. I just looked back at my a1c test results and it looks like I've had one a1c in the prediabetic range at 5.9 in 2018. The next two subsequent a1cs were 5.6. That must be why my doctor didn't diagnose me with prediabetes yet. But the drop in a1c was after significant diet change. Just wanted to give you the accurate picture of where i'm at!

What do you use for monitoring?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama 2 года назад
I typically just use a regular finger pricking glucometer - Freestyle Libre Lite, though I question its accuracy. But the continuous glucose monitor I'm using in this video is the Freestyle Libre 2. You stick it into your arm and it stays in for 2 weeks

@thegoodenoughmama i was diagnosed with prediabetis and low iron as well and its hard to start a new way of life of eating. My doctor told me i can reverse this but i was wondering am i allowed to buy of the counter moniter to check my daily spikes? Or do i need a prescription by my doctor? Im new at this and i git an upcoming appointment with my doctor concerning my results and will be asking alot more questions.

@@elizabethruiz2960 Hi Elizabeth! You can definitely buy an over-the-counter glucometer at any pharmacy, walmart, and even amazon. But it is something your doctor can prescribe also, which means hopefully your insurance will cover some of the cost since it can get pricey with the actual glucometer, test strips, and lancets to prick your finger. If you want to use a continuous glucose monitor, which stays in your arm for 2 weeks, then you would definitely need a prescription from your doctor if you live in the US, but many doctors are reluctant to prescribe this if you are not fully diabetic. Luckily, my doctor was willing to. Let me know if you have any other questions. We are in this together!

Isn't Hoisin sauce loaded with sugar?

Yes. I was tired of just pan searing the scallops in butter so I tried something new. It wasn't very tasty with the hoisin.
