What I Eat In a Day Pre Diabetes Edition & Testing My Blood Sugar (Learn From My Mistakes!)

Join me to see what I eat in a day pre diabetes and insulin resistance edition! I definitely have insulin resistance and pre diabetes, though I was not officially diagnosed with pre diabetes. I have had 2 A1C's in the pre diabetic range in the past, and my blood sugar tests and blood sugar experiments definitely show my metabolic dysfunction. I have tried to find and follow the "perfect" pre diabetes diet and insulin resistance diet but... such a thing doesn't exist! My body's responses change daily depending on a number of different factors. So now I focus on balancing my blood sugar through balanced eating, and I definitely make many mistakes along the way, as you'll see in this video.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This video is not by any means supposed to be advice on what someone with insulin resistance, pre diabetes, or diabetes should eat! I am not a dietician or otherwise medical professional. I'm sharing this video to show the struggles and blood sugar rollercoasters of an average person trying to navigate blood sugar issues- in all its ugly, honest, and messy glory. I'm not going to pretend that I eat perfectly everyday to keep my blood sugar in optimal range, because that's just not realistic. Sometimes, I get it perfectly! And other times... other priorities (like not wanting to contribute to food waste) wins out. Please don't judge me for being human! I truly hope this video can normalize for others out there that we are all doing the best that we can, and our best is good enough for now!

Thanks for being realistic. Anything we do is a work in progress. If everything was so easy, many would have overcome diabetes & it wouldn’t be a problem anymore for many, but that isn’t the case. As time goes on you will find what works to where you are not feeling like your food life is completely suffering & find a good balance. Best wishes!

If you eat all those carbs, you should walk, or some other activity afterward, to balance your BG spikes. Trade those plums for berries. Dark berries have the added benefits of polyphenols.

i have type 2, taking insulin, metformin and jardience. I am currently experimenting changing my diet. dont worry about little spikes here and there. more important these days seems to be your time in target for the day.if you worried about certain food make sure you eat a good amount of fiber in your carbs.

Thanks for the tips! i do worry about all the spikes because people say anything over 140 starts to do damage to your body 😱 I'd love to hear how you're experimenting with changing your diet!

@@thegoodenoughmama My experiment for this wek for daily food has been as follows: Breakfast: 1 hardboiled egg Greek Yoghurt with blueberries, blackberries and hemp seeds. Lunch: 2 hardboiled eggs roast chicken breast half cucumber 2 sticks celery. Dinner: frozen healthy choice dinner(high fiber and protein) carrots, mushroom, red pepper onion quick fried in advacado oil Evening snack: cucumber, celery, cheese, blueberyy, blackberry. all this kept me in my daily limits and under 115 the entire day, which is great for someone with type 2 At the same time i didnt take any metformin or jardience and reduced my insulin injection by half.

@@thegoodenoughmama you should, trust me even mid diabetes nephropathy is not fun. You can get it even with insulin resistance. That's nerve damage from too much blood sugar spikes. So take care of yourself.

I was low carb for a really long time. I am insulin resistant too, but I'm overweight unlike you. Low carb became a way of life for me, but also created a really bad relationship with food. When I initially started incorporating carbs my glucose levels were all over the place. They would spike so much from ANY carbs at all. Now, that I regularly eat more carbs I don't get spikes nearly as often unless I had something like a boba. To be honest though a boba would spike anyone's blood glucose. Glucose going up and down is normal. Since incorporating carbs my body handles them better, my fasting is lower, and my response to food is improved. I do try to only eat carbs I consider healthy. My new way of eating it try for 30g of protein per meal. I eat fruit, veggies, and some starches like sourdough and protein pasta. I am more relaxed around food and like you I feel WAY less stressed. I guess my long winded give your body time to readapt to eating carbs.

I have watched several of your videos and I have really enjoyed them! I love how honest you are about what you eat and how sometimes you make mistakes. I have recently been diagnosed with pre diabetes and I am struggling to find the right foods to eat and still enjoy eating. It is very confusing when you are first starting out. I guess it is a learning process. Thank you for making these videos, I hope you will continue to. It is helping me. New subscriber!

Thank you so much!! I was diagnosed in 2017 and it is still very confusing! Right now I'm reading a book called Mastering Diabetes that goes against everything I've learned so far about how to manage insulin resistance and prediabetes so 🤯now I'm trying to make sense of more new information. I'll definitely keep making more of these types of videos so stay tuned, and hopefully we'll figure things out together!

Eating sweet goods and carbs with a high glycemic index (white bread, rice and so on) which spikes your blood sugar once in a while is okay. But if you eat like this regularly, I would be a bit concerned (as a doctor). Those regular high spikes of blood sugar is what worsens your insulin resistance and increases your risk of developing diabetes in the future. Futhermore the high spikes will also cause increases in blood pressure, giving you a higher risk of heart diseases and risk of blood clots at an early age. Hope you find a balance

Yeah, I'm definitely swinging from one side to the other right now- keto/strict low carb to being a little too lenient for my liking at times. Thank you for watching and for your comment!

This confirms my decision to keep boba away from my boys. My oldest has taken a liking to it after trying it with friends and I just knew it wasn't a good idea. You live and you learn, thanks for showing your trials and errors!

Yes, boba is just straight sugar! I was shocked at what happened to my blood sugar. My kids aren't old enough to have tried boba yet, but it will definitely only be a once-in-awhile treat for them once they discover it. I try my best not to make any food "off limits" to them anymore since I tried that with my older son and he started exhibiting some binge-eating bxs around desserts/sugar when at birthday parties and social gatherings because I was so strict at home. But each kiddo is different and you're right, it's all trial and error! Thanks for watching!

Love your program! Talking about blood sugar spikes, today I had a Chic-fil-a sandwich (only the sandwich, no fries or soda) and my blood sugar spiked to 155! Wow! Great sandwich but not worth that kind of spike! I looked it up and it has 43 grams of carbs!

I wonder if you should look at the blood type diet, if you are a type o you wouldn’t be able to eat wheat/potatoes/corn and certain vegetables/fruit, you should follow a meat based diet. It’s very interesting

@@thegoodenoughmama there are great substitutes for the harmful grains. American grains are full of glyphosates which damages the microbiome, further causing insulin resistance. Always organic, and buy flour from countries that don't allow GMO farming. I get Italian flour from Amazon. A friend sources her own organic ancient grains and grinds them herself, making her own breads and baked goods. Best wishes.💞

the main thing is to give up processed grain and processed food. The mental health issues from low carb a primarily from low magnesium and B vitamins. Once i finally figured that out i have went back to relatively normal.

There isn’t much of a spike with real whole grain breads if you cover it with butter and almond butter or cheese. That’s true for me. But I’m not insulin resistant.

this column should be called: how blood sugar of a healthy body works. You say you feel your blood sugar rising at 120 which is literally impossible (because is a completely normal result). You're worried about different spikes after meal which is also normal in that physiological range. I understand this is only your point of view and you don't pretend to be the bible of blood sugar, but this is also psychological terrorism for who follows you. Your insuline responds very quickly to those spikes and you indulge in indulgences - legitimate, let's be clear - that wouldn't do anyone any good.
