What I Eat In a Week Pre Diabetes | With My Continuous Glucose Monitor
Another Pre Diabetes What I Eat In a Day / Insulin Resistance What I Eat In a Day video is here! I used my Freestyle Libre 14 day continuous glucose monitor again, but this time, I also used my regular glucometer alongside the continuous glucose monitor to see how accurate the CGM is. As someone with insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction, the continuous glucose monitor has been a tool that I've used to incorporate blood sugar tests and blood sugar experiments along the way to see in real time to see how my blood sugar is reacting to the foods I eat. It has given me invaluable information about how factors like stress, sleep, and food impact my body's ability to process sugar. But... it's not always accurate, as you'll see in my video.
A little bit about my blood sugar journey... I was told I was insulin resistant in 2017 after a glucose tolerance test my reproductive endocrinologist ordered for me when I was having trouble getting pregnant. And after conceiving, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes very early on. Since then, I've been diligently learning about blood sugar dysregulation and gathering data through constant finger pricks and CGM experiments since I am now at greater risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes in the future. I've learned A LOT about what works and doesn't work for my body, and how my body responds to different foods. I hope this video helps you on your path to a healthier lifestyle!

Thank you for this! It really is a struggle, and I'm still trying to find a good balance between trying to eat healthy while still maintaining my sanity. I totally understand the guilt you mentioned. It's a horrible feeling, and I just always wonder... is it really necessary???

OMG you sound so much like me. I understand your frustration totally when it comes to trying to incorporate carbs in your diet because you don’t want to restrict yourself. You want to be able to enjoy your meals and not have to give up any carbs. I get it. I went Keto because Type 1 and type 2 runs in my family and I thought that going Keto would help me lower my blood sugars and not cause diabetes. Well it did lower my blood sugars and brought my A1C as low as 5.1 … but I felt awful. For 2 years I felt terrible. So I quit Keto 3 weeks ago and have been eating carbs with my meals for lunch and dinner ( breakfast I love eating Magic Spoon lo carb cereals) and my blood sugars are all over the place. Thomas DeLauer says it takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 weeks before my blood sugar will normalize. Not sure if I believe him but I’m not giving up. Before going Keto I was not a Type 2 or Insulin Resistant. but looking at my blood sugars the way it spikes you would think otherwise. I wish I never went Keto. It messed up my whole system. Last thing I want is to have a fear of eating carbs. So I totally understand where you’re coming from regarding taking up headspace and relationship with food.

You are my kindred spirit! Everything you said resonates with me. I did keto for 2 years too, but my a1c only dropped .1 and my cholesterol skyrocketed 😭I felt really crappy and it created a lot of disordered eating patterns, even more so than what I had in the past. I hope that things stabilize for you in terms of your blood sugar! And I've always wondered about magic spoon but never bit the bullet. Maybe I should give it a try. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

@@thegoodenoughmama - I TOO had an eating disorder!!! ( Anorexia) many many years ago. It was awful just awful. I lost my period for 2 years I was depressed for a long time. A very dark time in my life. NEVER TO GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I refuse to have a fear of eating carbs and will continue to eat them and see if my blood sugar goes back to normal the way it was before I started this whole KETO diet. We shall see. As for Magic Spoon I LOVE IT. Yeah its a bit pricey but they’re REALLY good and if you don’t like the cereal they’ll give you a full refund no questions asked. Its high in protein which is what I like. ( lo in carbs as well but I like the fact that its hi in protein) and its good for kids as well. Give it a try you and your kiddos might like it. 😊 Can’t wait for your next upload. 👍🏽

I also tried Keto and felt sick. I lost masses of weight and never felt hungry but think I was eating too much protein and not enough vegies and fats,. . I have thyroid anti bodies, so AI disease and I decided cutting 'all' carbs including fruit, was way too much stress on my body and then I read your body needs some readily available sources of glucose to make thyroid hormone and if you lower carbs too much, body is under stress and makes too much cortisol which increases anxiety and insomnia ..so back onto carbs I went,. Some say 150 simple grams carbs day is good for them . I have to find MY sweet spot.

Maybe HIIT or resistance training fasted in the mornings and a short 15 to 30 minute low intensity walk after each meal is ideal to keep your blood glucose from spiking and level.

I respect your choices. For me, however; guessing has not worked. I stick to less than 50 carbs/day with two meals a day, along with my exercise routine. That's what has worked, and I do not have to test daily anymore. Occasionally, I splurge a bit and go back to my routine. Maybe, I do not struggle too much because I always followed a moderate approach (all my life) since I am at high risk for DM because of genes. I also never have had time to eat 3 or more times a day because of work, or being too lazy to cook some days. All it took was tweaking my meals a bit eating more meats, and increasing my fats by 10% while keeping my carbs at the lowest possible. I wish you find your balance soon. As a nurse, unless you use them right away, I know that all those innocent carbs even the healthy ones can spike BG regardless. It is good to know those CGMs are not the wonder devices providers claim them to be; there is always a level of inaccuracy we do not like. For a while, I wanted one, but now I am glad I stick with my old fashion device. Good health to you!

For me i switch it up. I do 3 meals. Then 1 then 2. Then 2 then 3 etc. Just keep a long 4 hrs between each meal. Next day after high protien i fast. Never let your body get complacent i made that mistake by fasting every single day to where it didnt benefit me anymore. I can eat lots of carbs thing is just dont store them. If i eat popcorn or if i slip and eat a piece of cake i workout 15 minutes later after consuming. But mostly i stick to high protien and fats. Simply just eat until you're satisfied not until you are full.

Thanks for your thoughts! I think your statement about following a moderate approach all your life is the key! Mentally, I feel like I have been in restriction mode in one way or another since I was very young, and it definitely negatively impacts me even to this day. Thank you for all the work you do as a nurse!

I am just starting to learn about all this. I was told cgm checks blood tissue which has a slight delay in reading vs finger blood and that’s the reason for different readings.

@@konniekim1591 It checks the interstitial tissue not the blood. Hence you should expect a small discrepancy. However, even the old glucometers can give you a wide variation sometimes. I had a big meal the other day at a friend's; though I try to exercise caution, as much as possible. My 1hr BG was 130 on my left hand, I am use to less than 120 on most days, and I did not like it. About 3 ot 5 minutes, later I checked in my right; it was 117. That was too quick of a decrease for me. So, I think there is an inacuracy from the meter. This meter has been accurate for the most part, but they are not 100%.

They say that if you are using 2 watches you do not know what time it is! You are using two different methods to watch glucose! Both invasive! Which to trust? Blood or interstitial? I'm confused! At my 74 yo with bg 103 and A1c at 6.2 I've started one day per week water fasting! Hope to manage my pre diabetes in this way! Thanks for sharing your experience ! All the best!

Btw, I have the same problem with the Libre. Am a long time Type 2 diabetic who has managed to reduce my bg using keto/low carb. I will say a few things about this issue of Com accuracy: 1) cgm are designed for diabetics, not non diabetic. As such they are designed to be most accurate in the ranges most encountered by diabetics, that is about 120-250 mg/do. When I had high sugars before, I did not have these accuracy issues (or at least they were less relevant) 2) readings below 100 mg/dl are likely dangerous for the diabetic - he is likely to be going low. As a result the Libre is designed to overpredict lows as a safety measure. Quite often I will get a critical low alarm (Ie,

Think the difference is rather like a alcohol test on the side of the road via the breath machine versus going to hospital for a blood test for alcohol. When people are pulled over for possible drive under the influence we always told people take the breath test as if you refuse you will be offered a blood test which will be worse as the result is always higher and more accurate. Just a note, if you refused both you were charged with failing a breath test for dui.

Hi, great video. Question I've recently been diagnosed with 2nd blood test that my fasting glucose levels were slightly higher than normal. I've slowly been counting calories, carbs, protein & sugar in daily diet. How fast or how long does it typically take to get your glucose readings back to normal & stablized? A week, 1-3 months to return back to a normal levels daily?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
Hi! I think how long it takes to return back to normal levels varies by person to person. It depends on a number of different factors, such as how bad your insulin resistance is, how long you have been insulin resistant, whether or not you have Dawn phenomenon, etc. But typically 3 months time is when you should see a difference in your a1c and blood sugar levels. But my mindset is that every single meal is a chance to turn things around and even if you don't see a big difference outwardly in your numbers, a lot of internal change is happening! Good luck on your journey. Thanks for watching.

@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
With this particular CGM, you can only see the exact time and level in moments when you scanned, not at any given time. And it doesn't show up on the graph. You have to go to another section of the app called the "logbook" to see the exact numbers. Hope that helps!

Hello, yes, I've eliminated all those foods and did keto for a few years. It did not work for me, which is why I'm trying to find a more balanced approach now. @@thegoodenoughmama Do you log your food to see daily totals? It took me six years to get my full understanding & I keep tweaking to low cals & sugar with more fiber & protein that are as tasty & as filling. I also look to -fiber from sugar & -otassium from salt too! I don't have a sugar issue but it's in my family so working on newtrition now & hopefully not to get it at a later time as I age. I also look at getting 100g of protein with a max of 200g healthy carbs. Important to have balance for muscle 💪 growth. I think Keto is good for short term but not long term health.
