Join me for another Pre Diabetes What I Eat In a Day, this time with the addition of my Freestyle Libre 14 day continuous glucose monitor. As someone with insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction, the continuous glucose monitor has been a tool that I've used to incorporate blood sugar tests and blood sugar experiments along the way to see in real time to see how my blood sugar is reacting to the foods I eat. It has given me invaluable information about how factors like stress, sleep, and food impact my body's ability to process sugar.
In the past, I have tried to find and follow the "perfect" pre diabetes diet and insulin resistance diet like keto and low carb but... it was a disaster for both my physical and mental health. I truly believe that a "perfect" diet doesn't exist! So now I focus on balancing my blood sugar through balanced eating, and I definitely make many mistakes along the way, as you'll see in this video.
I'm sharing this video in all its ugly, honest, and messy glory. I'm not going to pretend that I eat perfectly everyday to keep my blood sugar in optimal range, because that's just not realistic and it's also very very inaccurate. You'll see in this video that I eat processed foods like... Cheez Its! Please don't judge me for being human! I truly hope this video can normalize for others out there that we are all doing the best that we can, and our best is good enough for now!
A little bit about my blood sugar journey... I was told I was insulin resistant in 2017 after a glucose tolerance test my reproductive endocrinologist ordered for me when I was having trouble getting pregnant. And after conceiving, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes very early on. Since then, I've been diligently learning about blood sugar dysregulation and gathering data through constant finger pricks and CGM experiments since I am now at greater risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes in the future. I've learned A LOT about what works and doesn't work for my body, and how my body responds to different foods. I hope this video helps you on your path to a healthier lifestyle!

@@thegoodenoughmama I have done many experiments with a CGM on which type of exercise gives the strongest blood sugar decrease in the shortest amount of time. I tried bike, squats/HIIT etc like you did, elliptical, etc etc. the strongest machine is the Bowflex M series. It’s a mix between an elliptical and stair machine. It is hard and gives a very strong blood sugar decrease in a short amount of time, really in a league of its own.

Great job. You are answering lots of questions I have in real time. I am also prediabetic and trying to find my new normal. I am allergic to cobalt and balsum of Peru, so all those really great things like avacadoes, cinnamon, that can lower your a1c. I have started eating a bread called carbonaut. So far it tastes the best has very little carbs. I also had luck with the very dark pumpernickel instead of the sour dough.carbonaut Multigrain seeded bread that contains8g carbs,6gm fibre, 6gm protein
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
I've never heard of carbonaut. Will have to look into it! And that's a bummer that your allergies prevent you from eating blood-sugar friendly food :( It sounds like you're doing a great job figuring out other ways to help sustain your body though. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

actually sensor takes the reading in interstium fluids, means glucose level in the in between the cells fluid not in the blood, while glucose meter tales capillary blood, so from digestive tract glucose first inters in arteries and arteries are the pool of blood and all nutrients and from artries glucose diffuse into tissues and and fluids in between the cells and from fluid in to the the cells.so there will be some difference and blood glucose is accurate measurement of glucose concentration, if glucose stays long and high enough its more damaging to arteries wall, which ultimately leads to many complications.
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
Yup, I address this in an upcoming video (blood versus interstitial fluid) because my CGM was starting to read 20+ points off from my finger pricks. It's still frustrating though, when the readings are so far off. 5-10 points is reasonable. 20 points when I'm fasting and my blood sugar is stable feels more exasperating.

I don't understand how it's possible to consider yourself pre-diabetic with such results. They're literally perfect, also the 140 after that gigantic piece of bread.

Nice... I have been using freestyle cgm for 2 years for my borderline ..... I use it once every 3 months or 4 months
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
I was using it more frequently when I first discovered it, but now I use about 2 a year. Recently, I've been seeing more inaccuracies with the CGM versus my finger pricks. Do you find this to be true for you, too? My CGM always reads way lower even when my blood sugar is stable. I address this in an upcoming video but it's frustrating when the CGM reads 20+ points lower at times!

@@thegoodenoughmama Ok Because mard is different on initial days and last few days , the readings are lower and normal respectively. Yes. Cgm isn't accurate, even i am going to reduce the no of times i use the cgm. My sugar levels and hba1c(5.4% on august 27th, 2022) are normal now....

@@thegoodenoughmama Thank you. I felt extreme hunger after i ate a handful of salted peanuts and 150ml sugarless coffee with cow milk after about 30 mins post finishing the snack..hunger remained for another 30 mins ....then disappeared I experienced that (extreme hunger) today after having a lunch of 4 pieces of chicken wings and cucumbers (4slices)and raw capsicum(few pieces) and 1 spoon of lentil... It happened after 1hour of eating....the hunger remained for 35 mins or so and then disappeared! Why do you think it happens?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
@@renus6015 I'm not expert but a couple thoughts... 1. It takes your brain about 20 minutes to register fullness signals, though it probably varies slightly with each individual so for you, it may take a little longer, and 2. Hunger is kind of like emotions. It comes and goes in waves. If you're hungry and you wait long enough, the feeling will go away. It'll come back, but it'll go away again.

Have you tried Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Breads? Also I thought fiber helped block sugar best & protein just kept you fuller longer so less snacking. Do I have facts wrong?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
I have tried Ezekiel bread and it does not spike my blood sugar! Fiber absolutely helps slow down the absorption of glucose in the body. Protein and fats act similarily in blunting a spike. And they also act in keeping you full for longer!

Do you need a prescription to get the trial sensor? Do they give prescriptions for patients with pre diabetes?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
In the United States, you need a prescription. My doctor was happy to provide me with a prescription because she takes a more proactive instead of reactive approach to health, but I know that not all doctors are comfortable prescribing it.
@IK_59
@IK_59 Год назад
thats all normal , your liver and muscles store glucose when you eat and when its gets low liver mostly release glucose by process of gluconeogenesis and brings the sugar level to normal, under 70 mg/dl is very low is called hypoglycemia, between 70 -110 is good after 4 hours of eating.

Hi how to get freestyle libre? I am a diabetic. My doctor is not responding to my request for this prescription. When i contacted libre, they said i need prescription to purchase this. Also will it be covered by insurance?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
If you live in the US, the only way you can get it is through a doctor's prescription. I'm sorry your doctor is not responding to your request. That must be frustrating. If you are diabetic, then it should be covered by insurance but it depends on your plan and whether it is deemed medically necessary by your doctor. I find that some doctors are more willing than others to prescribe but not sure why.

Why you think my blood sugar go up when i do this type of exercise?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
When doing high intensity workouts, your body releases stored glucose to power you through the duration of the exercise, so sometimes your blood sugar will go up temporarily. But my opinion is that it doesn't hurt you to have higher blood sugar after working out! Some people will even say that it's really good because it starts to deplete for glucose stores.
