(ISFP) Funny that you mentioned the Si having a slower reaction time. Everyone in my family has Si and I've had multiple dreams where we are all in a survival situation and I ended up saving everyone because I didn't stay to save family albums or the random cash box in the basement.

I think Si is about personal experience about what has happened to the individual while Se is about other people's experience or external surrounding + giving sensory output to change their external surrounding based onwhat their desire is(Ni).Imo,Se user learn best from other people's experience+consequences of their actions in the moment and they are often visual learner so watch other people's teaching about a particular subject that you like or you want to know (Ni+Se) so that you can retain it longer.Si user often can study on their own because they usually remember a lot about what they have done during the day + if they have someone teaching them something they will think that's their duty to remember it.

Isfp here. I totally relate to so many things you mentioned in this video, especially about wanting to give experiences and needing to handle situations immediately. In addition, I appreciate that you gave me clarity about a life long issue I've had with my sister. My sister is an Si user (ESFJ) and she always gets mad at me because I never have pictures of family on the wall, only art. Her house is covered in family photos because she loves reflecting back. I always feel bad because I don't enjoy looking back at photos and reminiscing as much as she does, which she views as being cold and heartless. I've tried to explain the way the cognitive functions work to her to help her understand, but it seriously goes nowhere. It's just theory to her, which equals nonsense in her mind. Really drives me nuts. I really do love living in the present and looking back just isn't something I naturally do.

Wow I just read your comment and it was fascinating to me because I'm positive my grandma who raised me was an ESFJ, and I never thought about it too much but now I realize that she too had tons of photographs in our house but no artwork. I'm INTJ so I mostly look forward to the future but sometimes lives in the moment, and most people take so many more photos in life than I do which I sometimes feel bad about, but it just seems like a chore.

Hi! I'm a Hungarian guy (38, ENFJ) living in Finland, far away from my mom, who is a lovely ESFJ (68) . When we talk we mostly have long, passionate conversations about life, religion, emotions, people, and we understand each other. But I never ever was able to agree with her on what cloth I should wear. I always felt ridiculous that we have these kind of conversations at all, but regularly. However, I'm thinking now to surprise her me showing up at her in proper clothing and hair style she loved when I was 14. And I focus on my Se child mind, and just be around her. I think that would make her very very happy. And why would I do that? Because through her happiness, I could feel myself a better man.... 😂

One time I had one of his videos projected to the tv on speed 1.75x and he was holding the camera in his hand walking around. She looked at me dead serious and says “I can’t watch this anymore”. I said “What’s wrong? Is it boring?”. She looked at me like I was nuts and said “Seriously? I feel like I’m gonna vomit. The video is going at the speed of crack and the camera is wobbling all over the place. I feel like I’m on a roller coaster simulator gone wrong. How can you watch this??”. One interesting thing tho: as an ENFJ I’ve been told that an INFP’s Si child would get along with my Se child, and I do enjoy showing things and sharing experiences with INFPs. however, I get extremely annoyed when I want to share something immediately and I am so enthusiastic, and their Si is so slow to react, or their reaction is so reserved. Hi, Chase. I've been re-watching your material and building a spreadsheet to help myself better understand the relationships of the cognitive functions. As an INTJ, when you talk about how paranoid we can be, I mostly agree that it's true, but for me it's not as much as you've described, which typically is "I'm unsure of your intentions, and especially if you push me on what I've done or my past I won't trust you." I'm paraphrasing, but watching your video on Se users, I think it's closer to how you describe the inferior functions of others. I'm afraid of what's happening right now. I'm not always sure what's really happening, to honest. That's what makes me paranoid, and especially about other human beings, because they never seem to respond the way I would predict. I can build patterns about individuals and learn to predict their responses over time, but new people, or those I don't know well - it's very difficult not to do or say something that will offend people. So, while I've definitely had issues with abandonment and disloyal parents, I let all that go. Mostly with my super-ego, which is an excellent coping mechanism for cutting dirtbags loose from your life very quickly. But I don't harbor distrust of people. I just can't figure most of them out, and I'm constantly shocked and surprised by how badly I've miss-judged people - again, not always judged negative, but I assume a lot of people are good people who turn out to be real jerks. I blame Se inferior.

The "I need to react now because I’ll forget about it later" is totally me. Also that I tend to react to events rather than initiate them. Even in conflict I struggle to bring things up on their own without sending a feeling comment or reacting to another accusation, which is something I am trying to work on. So THAT'S why (almost) everyone places such high importance on a TV-Show/Film/Song being "fresh", and why people are willing to pay a premium for something just because it's the "latest thing". And why people still watch "whatever's on TV". They feel that popularity gives things "energy", and this "energy" to them is just: How much attention something receives.

I also don't want to say the wrong things and am willing to consider that maybe I am in the wrong. She calls me unconfident and a loser for it. She thinks that I don't love or care about people because I forget the gifts they gave or the things they said. This hit me hard. I tried to explain that her Si is different from my Se. Hey sibling from cognitive parents Lol (I’m INFP). I relate to what you said here from when i was younger. You sound really young btw! How old are you? I have two advices: a diplomatic one and a nuclear one. The diplomatic is to understand that ISTJ have PoLR Fe (they’re not aware of how you feel when they’re arguing, they just lay the facts straight) so to be diplomatic about it is to make them aware of your feelings in the exact moment they say something hurtful. Don’t keep it in and cry about it later alone. The nuclear advice is to tell them that their behavior makes them undesirable. They have inferior Ne which means they’re extremely sensitive to being desired by others and your Ni child have that power over them because you know what’s desirable and what’s not. Now that’s nuclear because it can push them to their INFJ superego in a demon state . So use it as a last resort if they don’t change their behavior 😉.

She is very accomplished and highly desired amongst her peer group / colleagues. To her, I have bad fashion taste, no refined culinary preferences, and am lame with uncool friends (she says these to my face at least twice a week). She doesn't value my opinion and makes me seem like a loser but I'm not. I'm athletic, have good grades and close friends. She has simply made it a point to invalidate me. Yet she comes to me for physical affection (cuddles/kisses) because it makes her feel good - a cool thing about Se :) About the diplomatic one, I keep it in because I've expressed myself in the past but it hurt more. Her facts are skewed sometimes. Her arguments become personal attacks. One time, I told her that she's been checking her heartbeat wrong (she counts two wrist pulses as one cardiac cycle for systolic and diastolic). Actually, you can feel only systolic pressure at your wrist. So one pulse=one cardiac cycle. I said it kindly like, you know, how an Fi would. We looked it up and I was right. I wasn't trying to put her down. It was more like discovery because I wasn't so sure myself either. But she got angry and sour. As an ISFP, it's very difficult to reveal my feelings. It only becomes harder to do so again when the reaction is negative. I find it easier to play off her insults as self-deprecating jokes and let it slide. Besides, I think that trying to handle her criticism may be good training for my inferior Te. My sister isn't so bad. She helps me a lot with technical stuff and choosing good products. ISTJs do their research well. We definitely love each other. I just don't want to do confrontations yet. My self-esteem is like a pendulum now (alternating high and low). I'm not brave enough to handle the aftermath. I know your advice is healthy so I will keep it in mind for the future. I have some ways to go for personal growth before that. I really appreciate you taking the time to compose a helpful response for me!! I will follow some of your advice as I'm surrounded by ISTJ friends! (just not my sister). I'll be returning to campus hostel in a few weeks so I can run away from this for now, hahaha :)

Good mechanical awareness - That would make sense why I am pretty good at taking apart my computer and tinkering around to fix it. Or opening up the hood of the car, and tinkering around to try and fix it. I wonder too if it works with the actual computer operating system too. Whenever there is a computer error, I am pretty adept at figuring out a solution to fix it. Day happens to them - Yeah I hate planning out my day. The reason being is when the day happens, I might change my mind what I want to do spur of the moment. I don't want to have to be locked into a plan. I would much prefer to just be like, I want to go to a museum, I am going to call a friend and see if they want to go. Unfortunately most other people seem to make plans for things, so almost no one is available to just go somewhere spur of the moment. I am especially not a fan of multiple plans in one day. I don't like the stress of having to go from one thing to the next and possibly being late or having another plan impacted. It is way too stressful. That is why if I do plan something, I only plan one thing for that day. That makes me feel good. And anything else I want to do as that day progresses I can plan around that one thing. That's funny you say we have terrible memories. I do have a terrible memory. I have an app that I use to store everything I try to remember. People's names, passwords, account numbers, my own address (yes I forget my own address sometimes). (ISFP)

Usually when a device of mine would break, I’d open it up and find what was causing the issue/what was broken, but due to not having money or necessary tools to fix it I was never able to (i mainly did this as a child with my MP3s since they were usually the only devices I had at the time lol) Also yeah, I too let the day happen and I don’t really plan anything 😂😂 tbh it annoys me when I tell myself "today I’m going to do this as soon as I’m home!" and then it’s like "oh surprise! We actually had plans to go to this store or this social gathering!" (Pre-covid ofc) and it was kinda annoying XD. Like, the one time I actually plan something you have plans for something else lol. I don’t mind other people's plans that involve me, but pls at least just tell me with time 😭😤 And yessssss, it took me forever to memorise my apartment address one time and I needed it for something school related and I was just like "... idk where I live...😬😬" my teacher got mad at me lmao

Se users then are the ones who are obsessed with tracking their progress be it with fitness, eating, etc. They're more likely to have a healthy competitive spirit, and will love being in competitions against others. I'm a dominant Ne user and I've never cared for doing any of that that. In fact, if and when I do slip into Se and get cast under their spell, I become very unhealthily competitive and anxious. IT'S NOT a good time for me! 😅 Thanks very much for clarifying!

07:10 It reminded me of one of the incidents that happened to me when I was with my younger brother at home. Normally, dad does all of the works like fixing things, so I don't really care about fixing or taking actions in fearful situations quickly. I'm an INFP. So, I was at bathroom when the pipe under sink broke. I was panicking and doing nothing at that moment. (I did know how to close the pipe, but I couldn't take an action. I suddenly stopped thinking) 😂 I started calling my younger brother for help as soon as he came in, he immediately closed the pipes. Also, one time I broke the sink thing (you know the thing that closes the water when you close it. I don't know the word for it) I immediately tried to block the water with my hands. 🤣 The water was going out of the pipe like a freaking fountain. I am very stupid in situations like that. I think I wouldn't be able to stay alive if there was a disaster or some accident and I happen to face that situation alone, since everytime something happens, Se users take charge of the situation. Anyway, I'm trying to type my brother and seems like he's a Se user.

Chase amazing lecture as always just want to make sure I fully understand and can apply this to the past lectures you've posted. So for me as an ENTJ with Se child the way that I interpret this from an information gathering standpoint is that I have an incredible ability to be able to understand information immediately and regurgitate it. This explains that when studying for a test I can study 1-2 days before and excel on a test but I feel like I can't retain anything once new material comes in. This would be the "miracles" that you spoke of earlier in the cognitive attitude of the child function correct? It also explains why I need to audibly speak out things for them to really retain and stay in my memory for a long period of time. Like with these videos, I do a review at the beginning and the end and it retains, but if I don't constantly add new material to what I've studied the previous day I can lose it after a period of time. I can get it back very quickly but I go from 0-100-0 really quickly and I assume this is Se child at work correct? The other question is that is the relationship between Ni and Se as follows: I'm wanting to give you a good experience and draw off of your experiences that source to be able to help determine what it is that I want in my future? As it pertains to wanting to give others a good experience I definitely agree wholeheartedly on that. My question is that when you refer to manipulating the environment are you referring to my ability to change the environment to benefit myself but do so in a way that's not interpreted badly by others. For example, when I was in college I had no problem connecting with professors and having them move around exams to better fit my schedule and other people were flabbergasted that I was able to do it and the teacher not get mad. It's carried on ever since and I'm curious as to if that's what by manipulating the physical environment or not? Btw thank you so much for the gender views that you have, it's really nice to hear opinions that don't immediately judge someone because they're a male or female and claim that they're the "wrong personality type" or their type "doesn't benefit them as much as another one would"
@CSJoseph

the answer to your questions is yes, all the way around. And regarding the environment, what you are describing is art, from your ISFP subconscious.
@brettbutler212

@@CSJoseph does Se also make people "impulsive" decision makers, or at least interpreted as such? For example I can make purchases for my future very quickly "Is it going to help me get to where I want (Ni), did other people have success with it or was I referred to people that I trust (Te) and do they have documentation or any proof of their past success (Se) and if it checks all of those boxes within a realistic price I can purchase something within minutes and it's been perceived as "rash, quick, impulsive decisions".

Understanding the functions better has highlighted something that I didn't notice before - I can use both Ne and Se but not at the same time. When I'm making art, I have to plan how I'm going to approach it with Ne beforehand and then I have to switch to Se when I'm trying to appraise it in the moment. Then afterwards I use any again when I'm trying to analyze it or go through my iterations in my process

The ISFP label makes so much sense for me on a lot of levels, except I really can't understand how I got a degree in philosophy and especially enjoyed metaphysics and formal logic.This was almost a decade ago. I was objectively in the top 10% of my classes, and when I wasn't feeling too shy to share ideas, I moved our class discussions beyond simply grasping the material. Sure, I hated the reading. I've always felt that most philosophy is written in such a godawfully esoteric, pompous style... But getting the points and being able to talk about them after that grueling read was awesome. Nowadays I do sort of feel like "what's the point?" about a lot of it except for really practical stuff like Stoicism. I have always had an easy time picking up any motor skills - drawing, calligraphy, sports... and when I go hiking I can easily get lost in the sights, smells, sounds. I will try any food. Seriously, name it, I may have already tried it and probably enjoyed it. But yeah, I love getting the chance to engage critical thinking. As a language teacher, grammar and pronunciation are my favorite topics to get into the weeds with. I got really informed on grammar before feeling competent to teach it, but I do comfortably speculate when there are gaps in my knowledge. I understood and learned how to successfully impart pronunciation with barely any outside input. Maybe I just actually am not that good at some of those things and I'm unaware? Or can the philosophy and grammar somehow be Te related? Ugh. Confused.

Science, especially biological science is very challenging for me to grasp because of so much memory required & the fact that a lot of it is theory w/o application.
