I remember watching those commercials back in the day and, looking back now, they were great. The animation was eye-catching, the scenes dynamic, and as a person who spent two years in college learning how to write commercials, they hit a bullseye on what good commercials are supposed to do. Their focus was always on Esurance's single core message that you can print out your quote after getting it online, while Erin and her James Bond-esque, globetrotting, super-spy exploits were a vehicle that allowed said message to manifest in some pretty creative ways, and good copywriting ALWAYS comes down to the single core message and the creativity. It also helps that I'm an absolute sucker for spy flicks, animation, and kickass leading ladies.

She's aesthetically pleasing and a well designed character, which makes it seem weird that she polled as unappealing, but if your metrics are genuineness, believability, or things along those lines, it makes sense. She's very spokesperson-y, so no, her character and candor are probably not great for sales. Not to mention, animation itself can be a hard sell for some, so that probably doesn't help any.

Well, it all depends on the polling methods. The target demographic was 18-24 males, which is who SHOULD have been polled. Instead they polled the general population. Lets face it -- some 86yo gramps or granny is going to "trust" the fish-sticks guy over Erin. TBH I bet anyone over 50 would simply have trouble understanding that she could be a corporate mascot, let alone for an insurance company. But if those people are not core customers, then it shouldn't matter what they think.

I liked Erin Esurance a lot. I mean, I wasn’t the target demographic for insurance since I was still a kid, but…she was badass, and thinking back, I really like how they reversed the roles of Erin and the dude guy love interest. It was probably one of the first examples of badass women (along with Lara Croft) and gender role reversals I had seen as a kid so props to Esurance for that.

Trying to remember the headspace I was in when these commercials aired, so, middle school high school brain time (yeah, that’s a fun trip, why do you ask? XD) and I wanna say I personally liked her as a design and character and was frustrated that such a cool concept was being wasted as a shill for an insurance company, cause no matter what fun idea they had for the commercial, it all had to focus around the insurance and that quote buy print catchphrase

Something a bit similar. In Mexico there is this character made for the "Dia de Muertos" called Catalina la Catrina. a local Tv channel (Canal 5, who is the one airing cartoons) launched a campaing/contest requesting people to draw Catalina... and damn did some guys decided to not go kid-friendly. That was on 2020, I think they re-launched the contest this year but not sure how things went this year

From Erin's flirty relationship with the james bond wannabe, I am going to assume this is hetero smut, with Erin being the idealized stand in, and the perspective of the artist. That might be hard to perceive as smut from the get go. I feel like this artist would have been fired if the boss found her doing full on centerfold art of the bland love interest guy. She lucked out that they found the kim possible OC first. In the same line, I feel a male artist could get away with a james bond OC, as long as they don't catch him working on the love interest.

I just gotta say, she's never been in my "special folder." I kind of forgot about her... But I was born in '92, so you know, I was more interested in games, cartoons and in the '99 writing a weird fanfiction. I lived my characters so much, I literally changed everything about it into an original story... It uh, it's still being written. >_> But it's changed more and more over the years, the main characters got older, reflecting my phone own age. I added in new characters. The whole story is something new. I love it and can't let it go... I have plains for two more, I want to write all of them THEN publish them so the readers get the first, second and third conflict in order. That way it's not like watching Star Wars as it was released...
