Brannock device. How to size your boots. How to find the right fit for your boots.
Have you ever wondered what that metal device is they use at shoe stores to get the correct sizing for your boot? It's called a Brannock device, and you want to know what your measurement is next time you shop for boots online so you can get the right size the first time.

Very important is to measure in the evening because your feet will swell and they get longer and sometimes wider. Important is to measure both feet because you should choose your shoe size of your longer foot.

My feet are almost a whole size different. So, I miss match them at the store. Lol. But, I don't just want to. I can't afford to buy two pair. To be honest, I can only "afford" to get boots/shoes when it's absolutely necessary, like when they fall apart or make me hurt too much, or something. Because, I really can't afford them at all, being that I usually don't even make it through the week with any money left. One day, I'm gonna get some nice boots though. i want some of those custom fitted boots, I bet that feels amazing. That probably won't ever happen though.

Back in the day, every shoe store had those, and a salesman would measure your foot to ensure the shoes fit properly. But none of that matters now.

My dad said when he was a little kid they would use a shoe-fitting fluoroscope to measure feet-basically unnecessary radiation for children! The 50s were a wild time.

@@Myebayvideoschicago - Hay that's interesting! will look into that one later. Just found a Sears advert that says "In fact, it's dangerous to have your child's shoes fitted any other way".

Keep in mind the Brannock only takes two dimensional measurements. It is a rough guide and does not take into accout the three dimensional volume of the foot. If you have a high instep or are thicker than usual at the ball of the foot, you may need to go wider. Also if you have a flat foot or have a collapsed arch, the widest part of your foot will actually be further back and will not be measured accurately by the devise. As for the demonstration, you should have showed how to calculate the width better.

Before the world got lazy and gready every time you would buy shoes or boots at a shoe store a clerk would measure your foot go in back and get your boots and have you try them on I miss the good old days

It would be nice if shoes were actually accurate to the brannock device. The brannock says I'm a d width somehow, and I've had many a shoe salesmen look confused when we couldn''t even get my foot in a D, and needed a 4E instead.

Haven't measured the width of my feet on the brannock device but I'm a EEEE too. Always wear a 13 US in normal shoes though.

Its its because they assume the widest part is the nuckle of your little toe, and most shoes taper inward towards the toes. I always have to size up for this.

You should measure in socks, also your HTB looks 0.5 size bigger than HTT, so you're probably (in barefoot, so in socks it's gonna be ~0.5 size bigger) - 10.5D, so again, probably 11D in socks

So in your case would you go for a 10 or 10.5? I'm just trying to get really specific for myself cause I want to buy deadlifting shoes for my meet, but I want to make sure they work since I have to order them online.

@pianofry1138 9 месяцев назад
I dont think he actually explained how to find width. Basically your width is based off length. So he'll first get that 10 length then look at the slider. 10 isnt the number closest to the foot its somewhere on the slider and it looked like between C and D.

neither, it gives a standardized size that every manufacturer should know how their product fits relative to it.
