Short Conversation about the magnet in Automatic Transmission Pan , and what you should do to clean and inspect it. Need Parts Visit us @ www.CascadeTransmissionParts.com
Mineral spirits works great as a solvent. Blue shop towels and mineral spirits has worked for just about everything I've encountered. I always follow up with a dry rag and make sure it is completely dry before reattaching.
THANK YOU! Changing my fluid/filter before a road trip, don't remember a magnet being in the pan of my Taurus when I changed it. The stupid things the people did to it that had the van before me, made me wonder if it was some other goofball thing they did.
you can use diesel fuel to clean it out and the transmission and the Pan and Magnet as well with rags then put it all back togeather it works great i do it everytime never had a problem or an un-Happy costumer they have all been very Happy with the work i do Im a Vo-Tech Mechanic Grad
I did my 1st transmission filter change today on my 96 Ford Explorer Limited with a v6 pushrod engine. I cleaned the magnet off mine was pretty full of slimy metal shavings. I used some brake clean to clean the inside of the pan and outside. Also, I used my angle grinder to clean up all the dirt and rust from the outside and repainted it.
Mine had quit a bit of fine metal dust on magnet and pan. It wasn’t super bad but enough for me to wonder .. do you think I should replace this transmission?
I haven’t been in my wife’s auto tranny pan on a 98’camry yet but bought a new magnet the other day at Lowe’s and fortunately it’s about the same size as this one but I’m wondering if you get a minute if you could tell me more about the orientation of the pan and magnet so I’ll be better armed when it comes time?I can figure it out once I get into it,I just haven’t gotten that far yet.I hope this doesn’t sound too much like laziness.thanks the the info this far,it’s appreaciated
Good info! Hey can I add another magnet or stronger magnet to a 2002 4t65e?(Buick Rendezvous) pan or would that possibly cause solenoid or sensor issues? Thanks!
Getting ready to drop my pan and service my transmission, but decided I wanted to replace the magnets but I'm having a hard time finding them. Is this not recommended? It seems like easy Insurance and I'm going to be in there anyway so why not?
The transmission repair shop said I need a new transmission because there was some metal shavings on the magnet of my 2001 ford explorer 5.0L AWD automatic transmission (4R70W)! I was driving when I shifted into Park from Drive. With the car still running, I shifted back into D and it wouldnt move! It only goes in reverse now. No sign or symptoms. Just happened like that! However, I know that I have a bad speed sensor. Could that be causing this issue?
Has anyone experienced rust or debris coming out when checking this 6L80 transmission fluid? First thanks for the video. It went smoothly. After i drove it and checked the fluid i noticed chunks of rust or some red or maroon colored thin chips or debris. I tried putting a magnet but didnt seem to stick. It almost looked like paint chippings but now im worried. It drives and shifts smoothly i did this out of preventative measure not from overheating. Again it just seemed the dipstick had brown sludge and maroon colored chipping. My vehicle is a 15 Tahoe 5.3L and is not rusted (Texas desert weather). Thanks!
what if it has a lot of small chunks of black material in the pan, they are not mettalic, and crumble in between the fingers.. the bits are small some 2 to 4 millimeters in diameter.. thanks
i dropped my pan on my 2007 crystler 300 because it’s be shifting funny when gassed to hard into 2nd then won’t go past 50mph rpm’s just boost nd car jerks my pan had blac like fragments what’s this mean
pan removal required to change the filter, and yes clean the magnet as it will be right there NOT suggested to pump old fluid out and add more on any of the RH & RE Automatic Transmissions ** These applications require and really need a new filter after 80-90k at a minimum; not servicing fluid & heat from this is the #1 reason we get in cores
Hey mate I have BMW 330i E90 2005. It had about 92000 KMS and to be safe I just took it to the Transmission Solutions for the fluid change and general service. It is about about 11 and half years old and transmission was never serviced. So the guy at the workshop showed me fine particles in the pan. they were not big metal chunks. Just tiny particles of something. Do i need to worry about or isit normal for a transmission to have those particles around after 11 years? never had any issues withs the tranmission still going good just worried.
I know this is an old post, but in case you’re still wondering or if someone else reads this, transmission shops... let me rephrase... less-than-honest transmission shops will pull that trick of showing you that sludge to scare you into thinking your transmission is on its way out so they can sell you a rebuild. It looks horrible, especially to the average DIYer who has never seen it before, but who regularly changes the oil in their car’s engine, because if your engine oil looked anything like that, yes... you’d have some major issues. But as he said in the video, that stuff is normal and the fact that it is stuck to that magnet means the magnet is doing its job. There are certain particles like he stated that you want to look for in that sludge that could be signs of a possible problem, but the sludge itself, as long as its not excessive, is just normal wear of the clutch material in the transmission.
@@rihamy2nd hi I see you know about this issues. My transmission works well but the last time I change the oil debris appear. If I change the oil often and stop appearing this do you think it will run well for some time?
A clean rag will usually do it.. if you use the red shop rags or anything else that has little loose fibers on it that they will have a tendency for the little bitty fine pieces of it to get stuck to the surface of the transmission pan. And cause issues. Most trans shops I’ve been around don’t even allow them in the shop.. and you can use something like carb or brake cleaner, or purple power. I like to use the brake cleaner or carb cleaner as it evaporates rather quickly and you don’t have to worry too much about it leaving residual bits of the chemical behind that could effect the transmission fluid after you put it back together. Just make sure that if you’re not reinstalling the pan soon after to rub a little bit of trans fluid around the inside of the pan to keep it from rusting which I’ve seen flash rust show up in a day or two in a humid climate
the stock magnet in the dodge / jeep pan are actually the largest of most automatic trans it never hurts to add additional ones, which many people do also - we don't stock new ones, but we have used ones for $5.00 ea ( $15 Min Order For Free Shipping ) can order direct via email, SALES@CASCADETRANSMISSIONPARTS.COM
