400,000 km on an 08 GLXR only part to replace other than normal servicing an oil sender. Standard diff locks front and back it does everything easier than than Hilux or LandCruiser I've used off road before.

Some would rather do it on comfort

I was about to comment the exact same thing - 3km/hr for the Dmax and BT50, then give it the beans for everything else. Simple laws of momentum will identify which ones have the advantage in that one....

But I stopped testing with the first 4 because the traction systems were crappy, and I could feel it from the driver's seat: They weren't going to go up unless I absolutely bounced them up the hill, flogged the track, broke a CV, munched a side step. Last four could do it, because of the better traction systems. it's also worth pointing out the testing we filmed was only about 30 percent of overall testing on that hill. We unfortunately can't film every minute of testing while out there. Sam

Agree, watch it back and he didn't roll back nearly as for or at all to let the gain any kind of momentum with the diff lockers for those vehicles.

Totally agree. His rationale for going as slow as possible was stupid. Anyone who's done any offroad driving will know you'll often need to get a bit of momentum up. You don't just go at a crawl and when you stop, give up.

Also note that when he did the first 3 utes he said he was keeping them at low speed and slow, yet with the last 4 or so, his words were "had to give it more momentum to get it up there" and had to give it more beans to get it there.. Not exactly sure he gave the same test to all vehicles.

They post an unfair test and everyone is noticing the lack in equality in the tests. The blokes at 4wd 24/7 actually tour and did a very fair test

The drivers are rubbish

Well Car Advice gives the results based on who pays the most for advertising so it’s no great surprise.

Not nervous, driving intentionally slowly. I'm testing to find the weaknesses of the traction systems of each car, rather than seeing how many cars can get up the challenge. It's not as exciting to watch, I get that. But I was more focussed on results.

Triton has an AWD transfer case thats phenomenal on dirt roads

Triton is rubbish. The rear axle is way too far forward for load carrying.

The gwm is cheap because it's rubbish,and over it's life span(short), will probably cost you more anyway.

Yet, in crash tests comparing these vehicles with rear airbags to the Amarok.. The Amarok still took the least damage from side impact and was deemed safer haha

Henry Lawson Mate indeed there is a very real chance that it would blow up.But then if you only drive it on the occasional trip to the supermarket it might last till the warranty expires.

@@leonwakefield7285 how is that possible? Last time I checked there’s only one other Ute with better warranty terms. So if it’s so rubbish and cheap why would it have one of the best warranties in the class? Have you driven every Ute mentioned here to compare?

Exactly, he gave the Navara heaps more momentum than say the Triton..

And he ran the Hilux a few times.... with more momentum each time. Fair. Not so sure...

Notice they didn't even give the BT50 and the Isuzu a close up, just drone footage and engine noice, when he tried to "push" them hard.

I think they fiddle with the suspension etc as well

Facts, if your paying that much for a Hilux just for a town car your basically materialistic. Paying for the brand name and badge.

Nothing in the hilux if you get top spec all that comes with it is stickers or blacked out grill that you can paint yourself, and plastic fenders, no performance upgrades

@@TheJoshuadavis73 you could probably add money on top of the GWM just to make it even better off roading. Put better suspension, lift, tyres, bull bar basically everything you need and it would still be cheaper than the top spec Hilux.

@@okbruhh a bull bar doesn’t make anything better off-road just adds weight and more specifically, weight to the nose. Utes seem to be typically rear drive biased yet are far too light in the rear (unladen).

I have a 2014 4 cylinder Amarok, and it is the most awesome and phenomenal vehicle I have ever owned! Cannot afford the 6 cylinder, yet. My 4 banger has never let me down, I am on my way to Birdsville right now, towing my 36 year old caravan, it is not missing a beat! These guys are bias, and I do not put a lot of faith in anything they are saying. Volkswagen Amarok for the win!

Yes of course we used low-range, with and without the locking diff. What the video didn't show was us getting extra stuck in the Triton with the rear locker turned on, not helped by the big rear overhang - Sam

You nailed it buddy - my thoughts as well - triton seems to kill the others - they just dont have to blow their horn about it - not to mention that other than the amarok the trition is the only 4x4 with "TRUE" 4x4 drive train all the others are rear wheel drive only with a diff locker.

@@tpv59 Ok, the Amarok is a full time all wheel drive, meaning it drives all 4 wheels at the same time always, and you can't turn it off. The top two models of the Triton have the ability to switch on (alternate) between 2WD and 4WD and also they have a rear diff locker that you can engage in high or low range. Hilux/Ranger/BT50/Navara/Great wall/Isuzu/LDV/Colorado etc do not have 4WD systems, they are only 2WD (rear wheel) that can engage a diff locker that will make all 4 wheel spin at the same time to get you out of a sticky spot but you must disengage it straight away or you will do damage to the drivetrain especially if you try to steer the car on a high traction surface. So IMO, if you are going to spend that much money on a so called 4x4 you would at least want to know that is is a "real" 4x4. To me this test (the hill climb part) was about which company gives you the widest and grapiest tyres - as most serious 4x4'ers will put bigger wider grippier tyres on anyway. If you check out other tests on RU-vid where they use the same tyres on all the vehicles, you will see a much different outcome. @@Twilight-cl3zc I wasn’t so much making a quality comparison, but rather a popularity comparison. It’s the second most purchased vehicle (of any kind/shape) in Australia. Most buyers of anything, let alone a ute, will consider a Ranger.

Dude legit said he was hitting 2500 rpm with the amarok but did 3km/h with the dmax and triton

A few of them were going way faster than to poxy 3km/h the first 3 had. Even going 6km/h which some were doing at the least is still 2x faster which alone holds a massive advantage in situations like that! It seems a bit unfair to the first few cars that got the slow treatment and instant fails

It's also pretty convenient that the identical D-Max and BT50 were back to back first up on the unopened shaily track. Bit hard to explain 2 identical cars performing differently by having 1 at the start fighting trail trash and 1 at the end on a run-in track
