I think the reason as the why the First Doctor started out they way he was is because the Master's personality must have rubbed off on him somewhat. Think about it, in the first three ever stories, the First Doctor seemingly intended to bang a rock against a caveman's head, trick his companions into going into a dangerous city, and threatened to throw Ian and Barbara off his ship.

Yes Delgado is THE Master but I liked John Simm's one, well the first time we saw him. Not so much on the second appearance when he was sporting that bleached hair do and eating burgers like Homer Simpson at an All You Can Eat buffet.

Him and Simm really defined the character, unlike the Doctor where every incarnation added up. With the Master, most performances have either been one-offs(Pratt, Beevers, Roberts, Jacobi) or imitations (Ainley, Gomez). But Delgado was perfect for the 20th century and Simm was perfect for the 21st.

+Punkster Daddy I dunno, I feel like we were cheated out of a much better Master with Derek Jacobi. He actually felt like a sinister and intimidating presence, in a similar sort of way to Delgado. Simm wasn't exactly as bad as Eric Roberts, but I wasn't too impressed by him and I agitated by RTD's apparent need to make everyone young and attractive.

I thought Missy was a great idea! This incarnation of the Master is even more erratic and insane than the previous ones which is more fun and a little tenser as we are even less likely to know what's coming next!

+Forty Five Very true. We also have Kate, who first appeared in the Reeltime spinoff videos, played by a different actress initially. Also, Professor Sugar from a Moffat-penned short story and hints at Irving Braxiatel in Smith and Jones. It is possible, but not overly likely. Still going to hope for it. Also, multi-Doctor/ Master story could be cool if it happened.

The Doctor should not think of her as a friend anymore. Whatever closeness they once had should be completely overtaken by the constant history of battles and death between them. I can see him becoming sad or unwilling to let Missy/Master die because of that closeness but that would realistically be gone or at least extremely nullified.

+Forty Five He still does think they're the only 2 left, doesn't he? In other words, if they *seriously* do battle, there's a very real chance of the outcome being genocide, or at least, him ending up *truly* being the last of his kind. he doesn't want that.

Forty Five I'm thinking more... he is wrong for doing so. Not that he is out of character for doing it, because honestly I would probably make the same mistake. I'm saying, from my experience with the show and seeing all that the Master/Missy has done, should not be given that chance or any others. The master/missy has killed so many people that well... They are beyond redemption at this point. Look at what the Master did to Nyssa's dad. That alone is horrible. The Master has selfishly tried to destroy the entire planet of Gallifrey at one time. The Master doesn't deserve it.

That's why I love Missy. Of all The Master's incarnations, she's the most unapologetically, enthusiastically herself. Mind you, her "self" is unspeakably evil and as mad as tea break at a hat factory, but she doesn't mind, she just goes for it! And she does it so well!

There's a difference between a rank and a character type. Time Lord is a rank, and It's always been established previously that the Doctor is not very good at being one - according to Romana he only barely gained the title by scraping through with 51% of the second attempt, and let's not forget he has always gone against their law of non intervention. Sometimes you can apply for a job/title and then turn out to be terrible at it. Missy however is a villain, which is a type of character and a lifestyle. She exists in the stories to oppose and antagonise the motives of the protagonist, the Doctor and/or companion. Yet so far she's instead been constantly siding with them (she hasn't even been forced into it), and when she didn't then the worst she's done to them is tease them and prod them with a stick before launching into a gigglefit. The closest she's gotten to villainy so far is killing Osgood, and even then the script had to bend over its own internal logic for her to even do that.

Hands down, the BEST Doctor Who villain. I love every incarnation of the Master . . . except for Eric Roberts. Something was off about his version. Can't wait to see what he . . . uh, she is up to with those Daleks that we saw in The Witch's Familiar.
