Well, i guess they didn't know that not all Asians are the same...It seems that Rover management tried to make a deal in Japanese style, which is 360° degree different from the Chinese. Chinese business making looks Japanese only in surface. Copycat as anything else from China. Very sad for the Rover. I own a Rover 75 and i love it, no matter what Top Gear says. I wish they start again.

You are joking, BMW took all of Rovers research in electric vehicles, how do you think that BMW manufactured their offroad vehicles without Rover (Land Rover) tech, plus the rights to a raft of British manufactures Marques

Rover crashed because of poor management and a shoddy product. I had a rover 25 a great car let down because it basically fell to bits around me. Headgasket failed which I had repaired with the stronger layered steel one. The central locking was uselss the key fob was like something from the 80s the key used to bend all the time. The dashboard was made out of the cheapest most flmsy plastic ever. The final straw was when the door handle came off in my hand making the drivers door barrel fall in to the door in the process. Bare in mind the car had 28k miles on it at this point. On the plus side it was great to drive good on fuel and actually pretty fast. I had to srcrap it in the end as nobody would buy it and I now drive a Dacia which feels much better put together even if it is cheap.

But didn't Honda actually buy shares in Rover and invest loads of money, innovation and technology into them as well. Then they got cold feet and sold out when BMW bought the remainder of the shares?

Rovers are great carsvonce the head gasket is displaced. Unless you have driven one that is more than capable of overtaken crap cars no bother then you dont know what you are on about.

@mushroomscouser to be honest mate ive worked on lots of cars and Rovers/MG were the most reliable and still are, abnd the least of my worries- bit of a misnomer im afraid

@tHeWasTeDYouTh Eh? Powertrain engines were brit designed, they gave the tech to BMW? BMW had crap engines for years, straight 6 with dodgy centre cams, remind me of the old Triumph straight 6 from the 70s. The Landrover pressing plant was Brit designed (still pressing x5 panels in UK too) . BMW broke up Rover and Unipart leaving Rover cars stranded unable to turn a profit selling cars alone when the profit is made after sales care (ask any car dealer how much a BMW service.part is!)

Could of perhaps used the money given to them by BMW to design more cars instead of bonuses for the directors.

Blame the government, they sold it in the first place rather than deal with union issues, a few billion and a strong management team could have made another Volkswagen. Now the chinese have powertrain on a plate which have left BMW red faced, serves them right for their part in the downfall. Shame on them shitting on a company that helped them in thier early years making Austin 7s..I will never buy a BMW , spit on them and their drivers!

the only thing i see here is a bunch of english man piss off at the chinese, but let´s be real about one thing rover NEVER had a good car designer to begin with a good brand is a brand of car that you can destinguish of the competion or have unique features and rover had any of that they spend the 90's copy every single model from honda and im talking rover not land rover

Because every car Rover ever designed and built was a complete shit box. Rover cars were a joke. And not a funny one.

Funny how people always blame managers or owners or the Chinese or whoever. What about the lazy workers that threw the cars together in such a poor way that the badge reputation was ruined? It's easy to sell a good product but near impossible to sell heaps of junk. The real reason it closed was because the cars were built like shit.
