It felt kinda sarcastic at first and I really had to grit my teeth to get through it but eventually I started to believe the things I was saying I was thankful for in my heart. It was like my brain knew I should be thankful for certain things but my heart didn't get it, but these gratitude prayers moved it from my brain to my heart and that's when I actually started to feel different. Another thing that was life changing was speaking up for myself more. I would be very quiet and "polite" in all my relationships (parents, spouse, in-laws, co-workers) for fear of making people uncomfortable by telling them the truth of what I really thought and felt about things. I felt trapped and boxed in. So it took a little practice but I started working on speaking up for myself and representing my thoughts and feelings better and this also helped with the depression because I felt like I had been set free since my voice was being heard, understood and accepted. And even if people don't agree with everything I say, it's not my responsibility to manage other peoples emotions. Letting go of that burden was like taking off a 100lb backpack. Actually, you can heal a marriage after the papers are served. In this guy's case they were the wake up call that something was wrong. If his wife really values their marriage and wants to stay this is the juncture to do the work and not follow through with the divorce. If they are a Bible believing couple then they should pause long enough to see a marriage counselor and put everything on the table. It's better to do that and then decide to proceed with the divorce than not.

something very off with this. He definitely sound more like someone being manipulative and playing the victim to score some pity points, than someone who wants his wife back. I think hes probably told all of his friends to watch this and then hopes they will all tell the ex (whose life hes probably been destroying for 11 years). And how many religious married americans have no kids? something off with the story. John was incredibly soft on him.

This man said himself that he loves her "even if he doesn't show it". Well what about actually showing it and proving it by deeds, not just this "i live her blabla". Whenever your universe revolves around a human it can be unhealthy. My husband and I were married for 11 years before we adopted kids and it sometimes is necessary to have other things separate as far as interests and fulfilling interests together to be mentally healthy as it's easy to become co dependant and complacent in marriage. He seems a bit disconnected, but it's nice to hear he understands his issues.

BTDT and survived. The spouse/partner who leaves usually has emotionally checked out weeks, months or years before they physically hit the door. That's why the person whose left is often surprised. I would tell him to get a good divorce attorney and make sure he knows his rights and responsibilities, find a good therapist to talk to and start processing the rejection, and close all joint accounts so that neither party can abuse them during the divorce process. I wish him luck. He'll survive but it's going to hurt.

Unfortunately, his marriage hit the magic 10-year mark, so she is entitled to half of everything. That's probably why the divorce papers were timed when they were. From my experience and research, men don't have many rights when it comes to divorce, esp. with kids involved. [He should be SO relieved that no childern are involved!] It doesn't matter who may have cheated or been wronged -- if the man made the most money over the years, then he will be the one to pay up. That happened to me even though my ex-wife was the one who cheated. It's a sad fact these days.
