We try to live off the land as much as possible and part of that is using the forest around us as a source for our food. Whether that is foraging for foods to eat or foraging for plants to use for medicinal purposes. A lot of current ailments can be handled by simply using plants from the woods. Our grandparents and great grandparents did not run to the doctor for every little thing. They knew how to use nature as medicine. And today we are going to be doing just that. Today we are focusing on foraging for wild teas in the forest surrounding us.
In this video, we will be walking through the forest and looking for the plants that make great teas, as well as discussing the medicinal and culinary benefits of those teas that you find in the wild. If you’re interested in learning more about foraging for wild teas, then this video is for you! We’ll discuss the process of foraging, identifying as well as the plants that make great teas. We’ll also explore the therapeutic benefits of the plants and how to harvest those plants. We will also discuss how to store them for long-term use.

Got into herbalism a few months back and plan on growing a bunch of beneficial plants and herbs this year. I love the outdoors, fishing, hunting, cooking, becoming more self sufficient and long to be a homesteader one day.

That mushroom could be fomitopsis schrenkii or fomitopsis mounceae depending on your altitude. Maybe the former given you're in Idaho. We have similar ones in Europe, fomitopsis pinicola, but they're not edible and not really interesting. Fomes fomentarius is kinda similar and much more interesting for fire making. Fomitopsis schrenkii is a perennial, woody conk with a fan-like shape. The surface is smooth and can be resinous, and usually ends with a bumpy margin. The colour usually follows a set pattern- at base a whiteish orange, then darkening to a true orange or brown, then lightening to a creamy-white at the margins.

Great video! I make botanical jellies and just made a batch of Queen Anne’s Lace jelly. One DEFINITELY needs to do their research, as many pretty wildflowers are absolutely deadly. For those unaware and don’t know the difference between QAL and poisonous hemlock, it can mean the difference between life and death!!

I really enjoyed this video! I just got into wild foraging here in Florida. My little girl loves to do it with me and coincidentally her favorite things to look for are mushrooms😂
